[Bug 1486462] Re: libreoffice draw drops from being shown in unity dashboard

2019-08-23 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Marcus, thank you for your attempt at helping out.

The problem is well described so it is easy enough for you or anyone
else to triage. Sending out mass mailings as you did is not really
helpful. All it will achieve is to close tickets in due time, not get
bugs fixed.

Your "triage" in this ticket is especially egregious. It takes 2
seconds to verify if this is a problem or not. If you cannot be
bothered to even do this much, then please reconsider doing any triage
at all.

integral to photo apps, it's really demoting the value of Digikam. Any

[Bug 1837170] Re: Kodi package crash after the update of libdrm-amdgpu1

2019-08-23 Thread Tom Lake
Not yet mate.
Installing the packages from this ppa have the same effect of downgrading them.
Kodi responds better, still there's no HW Acceleration.

I've just tested a Nvidia card using noveau and proprietary drivers, it worked
well.
But it was borrowed, I'll have to return it unfortunately ;(

[Bug 1841290] [NEW] I am logged in as "live session user", and running the Ubuntu option "try without installing. I am able to create a new user with admin rights, however, I did not log out and back

2019-08-23 Thread Abraham Shorey
Public bug reported:

I am logged in as "live session user", and running the Ubuntu option
"try without installing. I am able to create a new user with admin
rights, however, I did not log out and back in as the newly created user
before the system went into sleep mode. When the machine woke from sleep
and landed on the greeter, or login screen, it got stuck there with no
login box. I am assuming this is because Ubuntu in live session mode is
configured to auto login to the Live Session User account?

Please also check the packages installed in the dependencies.txt file,
as I have been having some issues with persistent network intrusion and
have had some rather odd auto configs happen on my systems. It would be
very kind to hear back from your team either way. TY

Hi kaihengfeng, I could swear I sent the log right after a crash.
Anyway, I attach another one (the first boot just after a crash)

[Bug 1841284] Re: Copying installation files crashed

2019-08-23 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by a corrupted file
system, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages
like these :-

Aug 23 23:47:39 ubuntu kernel: [ 311.789080] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Aug 23 23:47:39 ubuntu kernel: [ 311.789084] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x18cc3c29
Aug 23 23:47:39 ubuntu kernel: [ 311.790047] SQUASHFS error: zlib

Aug 23 23:47:39 ubuntu kernel: [ 311.790048] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x18cc3c29

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a faulty
device (or bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please
leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'new'. I
suggest you use the 'check disc for defects' option to validate your
media before install to ensure a good download & write.

[Bug 1841288] [NEW] does not create compressed dump on 5.0 or later kernels

2019-08-23 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On ppc64el, makedumpfile won't create compressed dumps, causing them to be very
large. This affects any kernel later than 4.19 actually.

[Test case]
Crash a system with kdump-tools installed and enabled, by using the following
sequence. Verify the created dumps are compressed by using file. This is the
same test as the autopkgtest for makedumpfile.

echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
echo c | sudo tee /proc/sysrq-trigger

[Regression potential]
This is a small fix and should only impact ppc64el. Older kernels should still
work, and should be tested.

[Bug 1841281] [NEW] ClamAV needs updated to reflect security fixes

2019-08-23 Thread chris pollock
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Release:18.04

apt-cache policy clamav
clamav:
  Installed: 0.100.3+dfsg-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Candidate: 0.100.3+dfsg-0ubuntu0.18.04.1

The current version of ClamAV for 18.04.3 LTS is 0.100.3+dfsg-
1ubuntu0.18.04.1. The current stable version of ClamAV is 0.101.4. There
have been patches released that fix security related bugs as shown
below:

CVE-2019-12900 BZ2_decompress in decompress.c in bzip2 through 1.0.6 has an
out-of-bounds write when there are many selectors.
ClamAV 0.101.4 is a security patch release that addresses the following issues.
An out of bounds write was possible within ClamAV's NSIS bzip2 library when
attempting decompression in cases where the number of selectors exceeded the
max limit set by the library (CVE-2019-12900). The issue has been resolved by
respecting that limit.

CVE-2019-1798 A vulnerability in the Portable Executable (PE) file
scanning functionality of Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV) Software versions
0.101.1 and prior could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to
cause a denial of service condition on an affected device. The
vulnerability is due to a lack of proper input and validation checking
mechanisms for PE files sent an affected device. An attacker could
exploit this vulnerability by sending malformed PE files to the device
running an affected version ClamAV Software. An exploit could allow the
attacker to cause an out-of-bounds read condition, resulting in a crash
that could result in a denial of service condition on an affected
device.

Please see bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/clamav/+bug/1822503 for a
listing of other CVEs that apply to versions up to 0.101.2

Request that ClamAV be updated to the latest version 0.101.4

** Affects: clamav (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I'm not sure this bug should be DUP'd to the stable-release
bug. Might confuse the verification and handling triggers,
perhaps?

Will need to make sure the fix is tested once the fix is
uploaded.

Re: [Bug 1840975] Re: Gimp 2.10.12 crash - deleted an empty transparent layer

2019-08-23 Thread Babs
I apologise if this is not the right place but I only did what it told me
on the Gimp crash thing that popped up after the crash.
If the buttons on the Gimp crash report tool lead to the wrong place I
won't use them again but Gimp devs need to fix it.
Sorry again

Yes, this is more supporting evidence that this is a race condition; the
state of the system both before and some time after the resize is
consistent, the kernel/udev just lose track of the existence of the
partition for some amount of time after the resize happens.

The symlink exists before the resize, so if it's missing then we know
that the udev events have been processed. The DEVLINKS line in the diff
in comment #24 shows that udev doesn't think that symlink should exist.
We can see the symlink being deleted in the logging in comment #22.

The link is not going to appear without something prompting a re-read of
the partition table from udev. I don't believe this should be necessary
if the kernel/udev are behaving properly.

(Odds are that whatever causes it to be recreated later in boot would be
blocked by cloud-init waiting.)

[Bug 1818547] Re: hid-sensor-hub spamming dmesg in 4.20

2019-08-23 Thread Alejandro Díaz-Caro
I confirm that the problem persists with kernel 5.2.9 on HP Spectre
x360.

I am using kernel 5.1.9, which has no problem.

In addition, kernel 5.1.9 with linux-firmware-20190815.07b925b-1 has a
problem with iwlwifi, so I had also to downgrade it to linux-
firmware-20190618.acb56f2-1

[Bug 1834213] Re: After kernel upgrade, nf_conntrack_ipv4 module unloaded, no IP traffic to instances

2019-08-23 Thread Tiago Pasqualini da Silva
Spent some time debugging this and I found some interesting bits. I was
able to reproduce this by deploying a xenial-queens environment with
VXLAN and the OVS firewall. Investigating this, here is what I found:

1) This module is first loaded on the compute nodes when libvirt-bin is
installed. This package's postinst script creates the default libvirt
network, so when libvirt service is enabled it will create some rules on
iptables for this network, which will load the nf_conntrack_ipv4 module.

2) At some point during the configuration of the environment, this
default network is destroyed (I'm still investigating who is doing this,
but makes sense since nova/neutron won't use the default libvirt
network), so those iptables rules won't be added anymore on libvirt
service startup, so what was previously loading the module, won't do it.

3) Neutron relies on conntrack for the OVS firewall to work. It's on the
documentation: https://docs.openstack.org/newton/networking-guide
/config-ovsfwdriver.html

4) As pointed on the bug description, OVS complains whenever the module
is not loaded, so we can assume that it's not its responsibility to load
it.

In my opinion this is something that neutron-ovs-agent should be
loading, since the OVS firewall requires conntrack to work and OVS
complains that it is not loaded.

It would be interesting to see how (if) this works on different
openstack deployments.

[Bug 1834875] Re: cloud-init growpart race with udev

2019-08-23 Thread Tobias Koch
I may be missing the point, but the symlink in question is eventually
recreated, does that tell us anything? This here

> Dan had put a udevadm settle in this spot like so
>
> def get_size(filename)
>util.subp(['udevadm', 'settle'])
>os.open()

looks to me like the event queue should be empty now, but how do you
know userspace has acted on what came out of it? Is it strictly required
that any event is cleared only after the corresponding action has
completed? If yes, we can probably blame udev. If not, cloud-init should
wait on the link to appear.

[Bug 1841273] Re: errors.ubuntu.com appears trojaned

2019-08-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1841273/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1837934] Re: There is no warning to remove install media when rebooting

2019-08-23 Thread Len Ovens
"From my experience it depends on medium - with ISO written to USB-flash
there is no such message." IN the past even with an iso written to a USB
flash, a message has appeared. In any case this is still a bug and the
message is _more_ important when using the USB ISO than in a VM because
a VM is not a real install but the an install on hardware from a USB
stick is the normal way of installing a Linux distro anymore.

[Bug 1841273] [NEW] errors.ubuntu.com appears trojaned

2019-08-23 Thread Sam
Public bug reported:

The closest related package might be Whoopsie, though this seems to be a
problem with the Ubuntu website. Hopefully it's not just involving my
Ubuntu One ID and you'll be able to duplicate.

Steps to reproduce on a 16.04 system:

1) Open System Settings/Security and Privacy and click on the
Diagnostics tab.

2) Click on "Show Previous Reports"

You're taken to an "Ubuntu Error tracker" page, which is hosted on
errors.ubuntu.com

3) Click on one of the reports (assuming you have any)

You'll be taken to a sign in page on login.ubuntu.com asking for your
Ubuntu One ID.

In my case, after signing in I immediately get a page with this html
source code:

https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu+Mono:700&subset=Latin";>

http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail118.html";>
FLAGRANT SYSTEM ERROR

Computer over.
Virus = Very Yes.

If you need more information please let me know.

[Bug 1841256] Re: package nvidia-384 384.130-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: conflicting packages - not installing nvidia-384

2019-08-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!
