[Bug 1842382] Re: vlc won't start; eoan 19.10 lubuntu daily

2019-09-02 Thread Chris Guiver
boot Lubuntu 19.10 iso on
dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
mounted hdd & navigated to mp4 & mp3 files, tried to use `vlc` to play alas no.
tried starting vlc from terminal - failure just as x201
tried starting vlc from menu - failure
Scanned `dmesg|squash` & only expected single line (I do check disc for defects
before testing anyway)
/var/crash/ is also empty as with x201 test

[Bug 1841936] Re: Rebuild haproxy with openssl 1.1.1 will change features (bionic)

2019-09-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
We talked about it, and strictly speaking this could be anywhere from.

a) yay a new feature for free for just a no change rebuild
to
b) this new feature is violating the SRU policy and not allowed to happen, we
need to upload code that avoids that any coming e.g. security fix will switch
it on unplanned.

And there is a lot of middle ground between (a) and (b) to bikeshed
forever.

We discussed this in the Server Team and came to the point that we are
ok either way (enabling it now or uploading a "avoid this to be
activated" change). What we'd want to avoid is that this just hangs
around and will be enabled "by accident" on any other upload.

For the decision if we want to push for

@Security Team:
- (we heard Dimitri in comment #2) from securities POV, was there a general
plan around the new openssl and TLS to enable it in Bionic throughout packages?
- if there is a bigger plan does it come with a reference we can use as
argument for the SRU to convince the SRU team that the change is safe and
required?
- what would be your security POV guidance for this case here, should we
rebuild and enable or upload a change to avoid enabling it in Bionic at all?
- are there other packages known which might need the same treatment?

[Bug 1832622] Re: QEMU - count cache flush Spectre v2 mitigation (CVE) (required for POWER9 DD2.3)

2019-09-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Per my Tests we already know that on DD2.0 HW things are fine, you can't enable
CCF which is expected, but it doesn't break formerly working cases there.
And I'm not sure if there is DD2.3 HW in the wild already.

Furthermore I was in contact with Leonardo yesterday, he is working with
the Authors of the patches to let us know if we can safely release the
qemu changes before the kernel OR if we have to unroll them for now
until this is fixed in the kernel.

[Bug 1842374] Re: Boot hang with Ubuntu 18.04.03

2019-09-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us (esp. request at end), this
does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting
it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties
you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

For help on reporting bugs, see

Manually removing 'system-moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com' folder found in
~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ remedied the problem. In other
words, uninstalling the extension manually and rebooting lowered
gnome-shell cpu usage down to less than 5% on idle. Thanks

[Bug 1842370] Re: 18.04 on 1st boot Display Port signal lost

2019-09-02 Thread Chris Guiver
fyi: If it was treated as a bug, you'd firstly be asked to check it
does the same with the latest Ubuntu 18.04.3 (with 5.0 kernel & updated
software-stack).

Bug reports though are primarily about finding and fixing bugs for
future users. Support (questions) are about fixing your current problem
and raising bug reports if they are deemed necessary.

[Bug 1842370] Re: 18.04 on 1st boot Display Port signal lost

2019-09-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us (esp. request at end), this
does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting
it to a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties
you are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 1842370] [NEW] 18.04 on 1st boot Display Port signal lost

2019-09-02 Thread Floyd Williams
Public bug reported:

18.04.2    Load from CD   select Try: runs perfect Asus 28" PB287Q connected
thru Display Port.

Loads with 3840x2160

In settings: changed to 2560x1440

Run xrandr -q

3840x2160 with 30 refresh

2560x1440 with 60 refresh

Installed on Hard Drive

On 1st boot the Display Port signal is lost -I think that the 30 refresh
might be getting over written with 60

16.04 will load & work perfect

This 18.04 install will boot in a system with a 24" monitor

xrandr -q

1920x1080  60.00*

Down Loaded 18.04 02  re-installed and updated

I need help getting 2560x1440 60  &  3840x2160 30 in the setting

[Bug 1842369] Re: Gnome-shell hogs CPU

2019-09-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. Please try uninstalling 'system-moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com'.
Just disabling extensions often doesn't get rid of their overhead.

2. The most likely explanation I can think of is:
   https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=781835
which is already fixed in Ubuntu 19.10, so please try that when/if you can
afford a little prerelease risk:
   http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

3. Another possible explanation is:
   https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/189
which will soon be fixed in 19.10 after mutter reaches version 3.33.92 or
higher.

[Bug 1842369] [NEW] Gnome-shell hogs CPU

2019-09-02 Thread Daniel Nilson
Public bug reported:

Gnome-shell process spikes from 40-100% CPU usage on a 4-core processor
without any extensions enabled upon start-up and just stays in that
range. Usage fluctuates between all of the cores (Each core is pegged at
>40% all the time).

[Bug 1838133] Re: realtek r8822be kernel module fails after update to linux kernel-headers 5.0.0-21

2019-09-02 Thread Jimmy Gjersvold
I'm on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS and has this bug. My wifi worked fine on my
Asus-rog-strix-gl702zc-gc175t laptop until an recent 'sudo apt upgrade' to the
latest kernel 5.0.0-27-generic.
Can't find any networks with it after the upgrade.

Please add Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS to the list of fixing this!
Thank you!

[Bug 1842134] Re: Please remove link-grammar from the archive

2019-09-02 Thread Amir Plivatsky
UPDATE:
I have just pushed to the GitHub LG repository a pull request for all the fixes
for i386 that also addresses the compilation warnings on Ubuntu 19.04.

I expect that it will be applied shortly (after it is reviewed).
I would appreciate it much if after that you could install LG on i386 from its
GitHub repository and verify that all the problems you encountered are indeed
solved.

I would also appreciate much a pointer to the the "original FTBFS"
problems that you mentioned so I will be able to fix them if they are
still present.

Later today I intend to look at the problems on armhf.

A new release with these fixes (and the needed ones - still unknown -
for armhf) is expected in a few days.

[Bug 1841595] Re: [MIR] tpm2-tss

2019-09-02 Thread Mario Limonciello
** Description changed:

  [Availability]
Available in Ubuntu universe and Debian unstable, builds for all
architectures Ubuntu supports.

+ The binaries requested to move to main is libtss2-esys0 and
+ libtss2-udev.
+
  [Rationale]
- fwupd 1.3.1 will be dropping support for using tpm2-tools/tpm2-abrmd and
instead will be using tpm2-tss. It's no longer an optional support, but a
required dependency to build fwupd now.
+ An upcoming fwupd release (1.3.1) will be dropping support for using
tpm2-tools/tpm2-abrmd and instead will rely upon tpm2-tss. Previously the
tpm2-abrmd and tpm2-tools packages were Recommends that were dropped when
merging with Debian. They could be optionally used.
+ TPM support is no longer optional and libtss2-dev package is now a required
dependency to build fwupd w/ uefi support now.
  https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/commit/1b5f1da2028189d5f743ea7e6ea5c45ebc09e4b8
+ The libtss2-esys0 is a required runtime dependency for fwupd.

  [Security]
- No CVE's, no binaries. Just library
+ No CVE's, no binaries.

  [Quality assurance]
  No configuration
  No debconf questions
  Long outstanding bugs in Debian:
Need to avoid conflict with TPM1.2 udev rules package
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=918973)
  Deals with mainstream tpm2 hardware

[Bug 1841595] Re: [MIR] tpm2-tss

2019-09-02 Thread Mario Limonciello
@Christian,

Thanks for your notes. I will review that template and add more detail
where I can and update the status back to New when I'm done.

As for the timing on this; it is for FF. My experience with MIR in the
past was them taking a while so I wanted to make sure I got this in
early so there was plenty of time to land it in FF as fwupd 1.3.x will
go into FF.
