[Bug 1844222] [NEW] Wayland session overlaid by black window when fullscreen scummvm exits

2019-09-16 Thread Alan Griffiths
Public bug reported:

Seen on 18.04 and 19.10

In the "Ubuntu Wayland" desktop

sudo apt install beneath-a-steel-sky
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland scummvm -f -p /usr/share/scummvm/beneath-a-steel-sky sky

Press ESC a few times and Ctrl-Q to exit.

Expect: session returns to normal
Actual: a black rectangle covers the screen, even when switching workspaces.

(I'm sure scummvm is doing something odd, but...)

** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1364037] Re: Juju expects a public address for all machines maybe insecure

2019-09-16 Thread Richard Harding
The main issue is that Juju controllers need to retrieve the binaries it
runs from streams.canonical.com and that the client (typically running
on an operator laptop outside the cloud) needs to be able to reach the
controller API endpoints.

If you're getting an error during bootstrap about reaching port 17070
this is the Juju client you're running attempting to reach the
controller machine that's come up. If it's a locked down VPC with no
ingress from your client you'll get this issue.

[Bug 1843394] Re: FTBFS in Eoan - Error: operand type mismatch for `push' - gcc 9.2.1 / binutils 2.32.51.20190905-0ubuntu1

2019-09-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Note: given that this went into the archive in early July and that nothing but
this section in IPXE broke I lean toward assuming that the ipxe code is broken
or at least (while it worked in the past) not implemented the way it should be
for the assembly to work.
Yet I'm not feeling experienced enough to really feel confident about my
suggested fix without further upstream feedback or other people backing me up.

[Bug 1838939] Re: Add alias to support Microsoft Azure RDMA device via MLX4

2019-09-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
FYI: as I was asked what this is waiting on - this was waiting for review and
acceptance [1] by the SRU Team for a while now. I have pinged the SRU team
vaguards of today to get it processed rather soon.
But I beg your pardon in advance as there is a sprint going on and due to that
there might still some time to pass before this is done.

[Bug 1827401] Re: gnome-shell crashed in meta_workspace_index -> meta_workspace_activate_with_focus -> meta_window_activate_full

2019-09-16 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello errors.ubuntu.com, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mutter into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/3.28.4-0ubuntu18.04.2 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this

[Bug 1827790] Re: Dell XPS 13 9380 - Screen brightness flashes

2019-09-16 Thread Ben Bromley
Alright, here we go.

I have the kernel listed above installed: Linux shadeball
5.2.0-9-generic #10~bfo110511 SMP Tue Jul 16 13:17:28 CST 2019 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I then went into the Power settings and turned Dim Screen When Inactive
to off, Blank Screen to Never and so far there have been basically no
flickers. There may have been one or two, but I can't confirm that I saw
them and cannot reproduce them.

I have tried it both on AC power and on battery, and with success on
both.

Thank you so much!

[Bug 1836823] Re: python-acme will break on November 1st

2019-09-16 Thread Brad Warren
> fill out Major Changes based on upstream release notes and
understanding. Could Brad perhaps help with this?

Happy to help here.

There are no backwards incompatible API changes being made. All changes are
either new features or fixes to keep the library's behavior compatible with the
ACME protocol
which was only finalized in March of this year.

This is likely more detail than you want, but as a starting point, here
are the relevant entries from our changelog at
https://github.com/certbot/certbot/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md.

The changelog entries for the update from 0.31.0-1 to 0.31.0-2 are:

* The acme module uses now a POST-as-GET request to retrieve the registration
from an ACMEv2 server.
* The acme module avoids sending the keyAuthorization field in the JWS payload
when responding to a challenge as the field is not included in the current ACME
protocol. To ease the migration path for ACME CA servers, Certbot and its acme
module will first try the request without the keyAuthorization field but will
temporarily retry the request with the field included if a malformed error is
received. This fallback will be removed in version 0.34.0.
* The Content-Type in the POST-as-GET request to retrieve a certificate was
corrected from "application/pkix-cert" to "application/jose+json".

In addition to those changes, the relevant changelog entries when
updating from 0.23.0 are:

* Added support for initiating (but not solving end-to-end) TLS-ALPN-01
challenges with the acme module.
* Added External Account Binding support.
* Use the ACMEv2 newNonce endpoint when a new nonce is needed, and newNonce is
available in the directory.
* Warn when using deprecated acme.challenges.TLSSNI01
* When using acme.client.ClientV2 (or acme.client.BackwardsCompatibleClientV2
with an ACME server that supports a newer version of the ACME protocol), an
acme.errors.ConflictError will be raised if you try to create an ACME account
with a key that has already been used. Previously, a JSON parsing error was
raised in this scenario when using the library with Let's Encrypt's ACMEv2
endpoint.
* You can now call query_registration without having to first call new_account
on acme.client.ClientV2 objects.
* Support for the ready status type was added to acme. Without this change,
Certbot and acme users will begin encountering errors when using Let's
Encrypt's ACMEv2 API starting on June 19th for the staging environment and July
5th for production. See
https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/acmev2-order-ready-status/62866 for more
information.
* acme now supports specifying the source address to bind to when sending
outgoing connections.
* acme now requires and uses pytest when running tests with setuptools with
python setup.py test.
* acme now parses the wildcard field included in authorizations so it can be
used by users of the library.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help!

[Bug 1844201] [NEW] turbostat is over constrained by dependencies

2019-09-16 Thread Doug Smythies
Public bug reported:

For processors on which it works, turbostat is a very very good
diagnostic tool. For many upstream escalations, it is the preferred
tool. However the Ubuntu implementation doesn't actually execute
turbostat directly, but rather goes to some script with incredibly
tight, and unnecessary, kernel version dependency checks. This makes it
difficult when trying to help others when we want them to try a newer or
older kernel, and often we have to get them to override this and use
turbostat directly.

While turbostat is part of the kernel source tree, it does not depend on the
kernel version at all.
Here is an excerpt from a recent e-mail [1] from the turbostat maintainer:

> FWIW,
>
> The latest turbostat and x86_energy_perf_policy utilities
> in the upstream kernel tree should always be backward compatible
> with all old kernels. If that is EVER not the case, I want to know about it.

I have been using turbostat for several years, minus the Ubuntu part,
and never had a problem with any version of turbostat with any kernel.

This bug report is to request the deletion of the dependency check for
Ubuntu. I am not saying it always has to be the latest version, but it
should not be crippled by the dependency check.

[Bug 1844200] [NEW] package request: OpenVSP

2019-09-16 Thread Hveem
Public bug reported:

OpenVSP is a parametric aircraft geometry tool. OpenVSP allows the user
to create a 3D model of an aircraft defined by common engineering
parameters. This model can be processed into formats suitable for
engineering analysis.

It can analyse drag, lift and stability, mass and other things.
It is also possible to export files to other programs.

[Bug 1817595] Re: [SRU] urdfdom-headers and urdfdom should not use locale dependent parsing for floating point numbers

2019-09-16 Thread Jose Luis Rivero
@Julian: thanks very much for reviewing.

1. I attach debdiffs to the bug
2. Fixed release version number in the debdiffs to be 0.1
3. I've changed the patching to have one commit in each patch
4. Upstream split the library in two repositories one for the headers and one
for the libraries, this SRU covers both. Not usual but the packaging was done
using this same division done upstream. With this in mind I think that the test
case is a bit more clear but feel free to ask if you need more information.

@Kyle: I'm happy to help with any regression that could appear of any
other problem we found.

[Bug 1844195] [NEW] beegfs-meta lockup with glibc 2.27 on bionic

2019-09-16 Thread Dirk Petersen
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Private security bug reported:

Bug report: Lock up of beegfs-meta with glibc 2.27

Affected system:

Release: Ubuntu 18.04.3 bionic
Kernel: 4.15.0-62-generic
libc6: 2.27-3ubuntu1
beegfs: 7.1.3

We have discovered an issue we believe to be a bug in the version of glibc in
Ubuntu 18.04 that causes a beegfs-meta service to lock up and become
unresponsive. (https://www.beegfs.io/)

The issue has also been observed in three other installations, all running
Ubuntu 18.04 and does not occur on Ubuntu 16.04 or RHEL/CentOS 6 or 7.

The affected processes resume normal operation almost immediately after a
debugger like strace or gdb is attached to the process and then continue to run
normally for some time until they get stuck again. In the short period between
attaching strace and the process resuming normal operation we see messages like

38371 futex(0x5597341d9ca8, FUTEX_WAIT_BITSET_PRIVATE|FUTEX_CLOCK_REALTIME,
282, NULL, 0x) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)

and a CPU load of 100% on one core, and after the process gets unstuck

38371 futex(0x5597341d9ca8, FUTEX_WAIT_BITSET_PRIVATE|FUTEX_CLOCK_REALTIME,

We found this [1] patch to glibc that might be related to the issue and built
our own version of the official glibc package with only the following diff
applied to it. All other changes in the patch only touch tests and modify the
Makefile to build those tests and the changelog, so we decided to skip these
for the sake of being able to apply the patch cleanly to the Ubuntu glibc.

Unfortunately the lockups did not stop after we installed the patched package
versions and restarted our services. The only thing we noticed was that during
the lockups, we could not observe high CPU load any more.

We were able to record backtraces of all of the threads in our stuck processes
before and after applying the patch. The traces are attached to this report.

Additionally, to discard other reasons, we explored the internal mutexes and
condition variables to check for dead(live)locks produced at the application
level (BeeGFS routines). We could not find any.

If you need additional information or testing, we would be happy to provide you
with what we can to help solve this issue.

Procedure:

* run: strings radosgw | grep max_connections

max_connections value "%s" is invalid

run: sudo systemctl restart ceph-radosgw.target

* edit /etc/ceph/ceph.conf

...see error in logs.

...restart with value in range (say, 1000), no error message.

* in the code there is no codepath setting this value without using the
variable, internally: so seeing this behavior is evidence the feature is
present.
