[Bug 1845562] Re: libvirt error Invalid value '+cpu' for 'cgroup.subtree_control'

2019-09-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
on my end I rechecked and can start a guest with virt-manager just fine.
So we would need to find what is different on your configuration.

Usual good data is:
1. the guest XML representation (virsh dumpxml ...)
2. a list of installed packages (apport would have provided that, but it seems
you skipped)
3. dmesg (in case there are apparmor denials)

Related to the error I found was some cgroupv2 code that isn't ready in
19.04 yet and should not be used. Actually it shouldn't be in there.
Other people have ran into similar [1] and only with libvirt >=5.5 [2]
I'd expect that to work which would mean Ubuntu 20.04.

Have you enabled/configured/tested cgroupv2 to maybe trigger this?

[Bug 1845562] Re: libvirt error Invalid value '+cpu' for 'cgroup.subtree_control'

2019-09-26 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

Hi Yuhua,
no - as I have stated multiple times in advance in other
places/calls/emails - 11.0 came out after 19.10 feature freeze and is
too much of a risk.
The plan for a long time already was to have OVT >=11 in Ubuntu 20.04.

fi

DEBUG:

bootdev=/dev/mapper after disk=$(device_to_disk bootfs)
since bootfs is bootfs=/dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root
and device_to_disk will remove last part from /dev/mapper/XXX.

bootfs is /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root BECAUSE:

rootfs=$(findfs /)
bootfs=$(findfs /boot
[ -n "$bootfs" ] || bootfs="$rootfs"

so, device_to_disk() has cut "vgubuntu-root" from the string and that is
how bootdev has become "/dev/mapper" only.

Testing with a SCSI disk, I got the exact same DEBUG output, BUT ...

I was able to see that the INITIAL value for:

grub-installer/bootdev WAS "/dev/sda"

but, after purging it with "debconf-set grub-installer/bootdev ''", I
could NOT repopulate db variable again by executing only "grub-installer
/target", DIFFERENTLY than when executing "grub-installer /target" in a
/dev/vda based LVM, when it ALWAYS gets populated like described above
(with /dev/mapper).

TODO:

discover why grub-installer/bootdev isn't populated back when re-
executing "grub-installer /target" after purging the original (right
after installation) value. Whenever bootdev defaults to
/dev/mapper/, bootdev should be replaced with /dev/sdXXX or
/dev/vdXXX, one of the LVM PV disks of under laying volume group (to
confirm).

[Bug 1829693] Re: Lubuntu Daily ISO (May 19) QtPass error GnuPG not found

2019-09-26 Thread Walter Lapchynski
I'm also really confused as to why gpg itself isn't at least a recommend
or a suggest or something. Seems pretty darn essential.

And from what I can tell calling gpg on all supported releases at time
of writing sans Xenial had the effect of invoking gpg version 2. Cosmic
uniquely had a /usr/bin/gpg2 → gpg symlink from the gnupg2 package while
gpg came from the gpg package. Xenial had both gpg and gpg2. It's all a
ridiculous mess.

[Bug 1845578] Re: Power indicator doesn't show when charging

2019-09-26 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1845578/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1844962] Re: apparent memory usage regression - not getting freed?

2019-09-26 Thread Joe Barnett
899fbde1464639e3d12eaffdad8481a59b367fcb is the first bad commit
commit 899fbde1464639e3d12eaffdad8481a59b367fcb
Author: Philip Yang
Date: Thu Dec 13 15:35:28 2018 -0500

drm/amdgpu: replace get_user_pages with HMM mirror helpers

Use HMM helper function hmm_vma_fault() to get physical pages backing
userptr and start CPU page table update track of those pages. Then use
hmm_vma_range_done() to check if those pages are updated before
amdgpu_cs_submit for gfx or before user queues are resumed for kfd.

If userptr pages are updated, for gfx, amdgpu_cs_ioctl will restart
from scratch, for kfd, restore worker is rescheduled to retry.

HMM simplify the CPU page table concurrent update check, so remove
guptasklock, mmu_invalidations, last_set_pages fields from
amdgpu_ttm_tt struct.

HMM does not pin the page (increase page ref count), so remove related
operations like release_pages(), put_page(), mark_page_dirty().

[Bug 1730924]

2019-09-26 Thread verdre
Hi,

this still seems to be an issue on a lot of Surface devices and I'm not
sure if it was ever solved.

I own a Surface Pro 2017 and I'm seeing the same issues as in
#Comment74, the issue happens randomly after some time (sometimes hours,
sometimes minutes) and is easily reproducible by suspending and resuming
multiple times. As long as you're not suspending the device, a
workaround is to manually set PCIe ASPM to L0-only for the wifi card.

I'm running a 5.3 kernel right now, are there any patches I could try?

[Bug 1829693] Re: Lubuntu Daily ISO (May 19) QtPass error GnuPG not found

2019-09-26 Thread Walter Lapchynski
https://github.com/IJHack/QtPass/commit/7f8136e4f08baea281cef62393ff75616ce09c74
and
https://github.com/IJHack/QtPass/commit/827a7104cebace94802dc479e2f3ae7564a99469
seem to be fixes as with those changes gpg2 is specifically called out.

Both are in 1.3.0 (https://github.com/IJHack/QtPass/releases/tag/v1.3.0)
which is in Debian bullseye
(https://packages.debian.org/source/bullseye/qtpass), so it seems this
is but a sync away.

[Bug 1845584] Re: intel-lpss driver conflicts with write-combining MTRR region

2019-09-26 Thread AceLan Kao
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The memory region intel-lpss-pci uses has been declared as
  write-combining
  [0.001728] 5 base 40 mask 60 write-combining
This leads to the system hangs up during booting up.

This is a BIOS issue, but there are some platforms on the market and
users are struggling on booting up the machines. So, we may have to fix
  this in the kernel.

  [Fix]
Tuowen Zhao(ztuo...@gmail.com)[1] provides a diff patch for intel-lpss
driver to claim to use un-catchable memory while calling
- __devm_ioremap(), and it works well.
+ __devm_ioremap(), and it works well. But it didn't be accepted by
+ maintainer yet.

To avoid the potential impact on other machines, I add a quirk to list
the machines which has the write-combining area in MTRR which overlaps
with the address that intel-lpss uses, only the machines in the list
  pass the DEVM_IOREMAP_UC to __devm_ioremap().

  [Test]
  Verified on Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1

  [Regression Potential]
Low, without this patch, the machine even can't boot. And the quirk only for
specific machines, so the modification won't affect other machines.

[Bug 1814490] Re: lubuntu 19.04/19.10 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display continues normally

2019-09-26 Thread Chris Guiver
** Summary changed:

- lubuntu 19.04 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display continues
normally
+ lubuntu 19.04/19.10 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display
continues normally

** Description changed:

+ Please note: this only occurs on vertical alignment of displays (one
+ above the other), and if top/bottom is swapped, the issue disappears...
+
Lubuntu 19.04 [x86_64] installed system (upgraded from 18.04 85 days ago)
  -

  addendums:
1: package suggestion by krytarik on #lubuntu-devel
2: possibly duplicate; & my reason why no (but linked for sure!)
  3: occurs on QA-test of 19.04 daily

  1:--- added re: package
As for package - xscreensaver may not be culprit.
It works perfectly on 18.04 Lubuntu (see comment #3 & #4 which tested prior &
current package), and if I login via XFCE (Xubuntu) on same box (my install has
both; comment #1). I tested killing lxqt-powermanagement which made no
difference (comment #5) where it was suggested

Okay, then I'd say just stick lxqt-session to the bug report too
and see how it proceeds. :P
  2: --- possible duplicate?
  I just discovered
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1807665
  which was for a 19.04 x86 QA-test on a laptop. I'm not marking it a
duplicate as this system was installed 85+ days ago & yet I only discovered
this issue now! If it were a straight duplicate I'd hope I'd have noticed it
before now & seen connection with that prior bug.. On that other bug I noted I
hadn't experienced it on any installed system, where now I have...
  3:--- qa-test using daily image
I booted today's daily image on different box which has two displays; at
first it was good (displays next to each other horizontally). I adjusted
position so they were vertically placed (like they are for that box, and this
reporting box the bug-report relates to). I could re-create bug by using
'monitor settings' to a vertical placement & letting screensaver run.
  --- (end of addendum material)

When the screensaver takes effect, both displays go dim & go black for
maybe a second then one shows screensaver, the other returns to normal
  display.

If i have windows (hexchat, htop/glances running) on the non-screensaver
displaying window, those contents continue to receive updates allowing
me to see new incoming messages in hexchat, or view the process info in
  htop/glances on a qterminal window.

I logged out & tried same in XFCE and it blacked both screens the same,
but then showed xscreensaver images on each display (not the same image,
each with its own 'image'). My system has lubuntu-desktop & xubuntu-
desktop intalled. I returned to Lubuntu & re-tested and it was the same
(one display showing screensaver, one resuming active windows)

  To replicate:

  - login to Lubuntu 19.04 (on system with two displays)
  - have windows open on both displays, eg. htop so you can view detail change
  - change screensaver prefers to blank after 1 min, then wait

as screensaver takes effect, both will dim, then one will display
screensaver, other will return to displaying the window it was before
with information (htop etc) updating as if unlocked.

i tried `ubuntu-bug xscreensaver` & it ran apport, then returned to $ prompt
without browser to enter this window. this is my main desktop; x86_64 or dell
[optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350) on
that rare occasion I use it for qa-testing. this though was my installed
normal system (so likely heavily modified)

  guiverc@d960-ubu2:~$ apt-cache policy xscreensaver

[Bug 1812342] Re: lubuntu 19.04 - pcmanfm-qt menu won't show on 2nd display

2019-09-26 Thread Chris Guiver
19.10 Lubuntu x86_64 qa-test (beta) 2019-09-26.1

thinkpad sl510 with external vga (positioned on floor below coffee
table)

This I believe is the same issue; but the "menu doesn't show" does not
apply - it's there in this case, but it's appearing above the window.
Refer picture

In most (if not all) prior cases the menu appeared only as pixels right
at top of display.

If I move pcmanfm-qt's window lower; the menu appears in the same
position being further away from my window.

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location

2019-09-26 Thread Mr Aaron J Michaux
Just fyi to the snap developers.

I delete the $HOME/snap directory every time I see it. I agree 100% with
#2 that it's arrogant to create this directory. If I'm forced to use a
snap app, like skype, I just delete the directory immediately
afterwards. And I really hope that snap has no future, unless they fix
this issue.

[Bug 452073]

2019-09-26 Thread Jérôme
Created attachment 154564
/opt/libreofficedev6.3/program/soffice in version 6.3_6.3.3.0.0

I downloaded the below daily build here :

https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-6-3/Linux-rpm_deb-
x86_64@86-TDF/2019-09-24_23.33.05/libreoffice-6-3~2019-09-24_23.33.05_LibreOfficeDev_6.3.3.0.0_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz

Into this file, I found the libreofficedev6.3_6.3.3.0.0-1_amd64.deb package
which has the attached file with the below path :
opt/libreofficedev6.3/program/soffice

[Bug 1802208]

2019-09-26 Thread Sbergman
(In reply to Jan-Marek Glogowski from comment #0)
> When OpenJDK tried to enforce stricter class path URL checks without
> previous announcement, things started to break left and right. This included
> failing LibreOffice JUnitTest checks, since the dependency classpath in our

It would have been useful to document exactly what failed. At least
with java-latest-openjdk-headless-13.0.0.33-1.rolling.fc31.x86_64, the
testurlcheck program in configure.ac reports "false", but (when you
convert the corresponding AC_MSG_ERROR into a AC_MSG_RESULT to not make
configure fail) a full `make check screenshot` works fine for me.

[Bug 1845190]

2019-09-26 Thread Marc-herbert+sourceware
Impressively quick fix indeed, thanks!

I haven't seen any test added though. While such ELF files shouldn't be common,
it's a fairly basic feature and doesn't seem like requiring any complex test
fixture, does it?
Relying on diffoscope's test suite doesn't feel right.

Ah, I've a theory on what happened. I had burned the 20190926*.1* ISO
to a USB stick, and while I retested by booting from the 20190926 ISO
(BMC Virtual CD), I'm guessing it switched to the .1 media after
initial boot. I dd'd over the USB stick and retested and the issue
came back. So, maybe something in .1 fixed this?

[Bug 1838525] Re: LVM setup fails to install grub on virtio storage

2019-09-26 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Reproducer:

#!/bin/bash

device_to_disk () {
echo "$1" | \
sed 's:\(/dev/[a-z]\+\).*:\1:'
}

device_to_disk /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root

So device_to_disk() is doing what it is supposed to do and there was NO
CHANGE to it (as it appears).

I guess using grub-install at /dev/vda was allowed before (instead of
the LVM PV ?), so there wasn't a need to use /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root
as the argument for grub-installer.

It is either that OR the "/dev/mapper" section of this same script,
related to:

case $prefix in
...
/dev/mapper)
disc_offered_devfs=...
...

couldn't deal with virtio disks on top of LVM (my next task here) as it
should.

Simply using:

#!/bin/bash

device_to_disk () {
echo "$1" | \
sed 's:\(/dev/mapper/.*\+\|/dev/[a-z]\+\).*:\1:'
}

device_to_disk /dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root
device_to_disk /dev/something/else

$ ./temp.sh
/dev/mapper/vgubuntu-root
/dev/something

instead, keeps the same behavior for everything else AND fixes usage
case where device is "/dev/mapper/X". This is ONE WAY of fixing
this, BUT I guess the /dev/mapper section should also work for LVM w/
virtio disks, as stated in the script, so I'm investigating this.

[Bug 1845572] [NEW] udevadm trigger will fail when trying to add /sys/devices/vio/

2019-09-26 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
This will cause the installer to exit early, causing a kernel panic before any
prompt to the user. This is restricted to some Power systems.

[Test case]
A build vmlinux was used to boot the installer, and a prompt was available.
'add' was written to /sys/devices/vio/uevent was written to, and no error was
found.
'add' was written to /sys/devices/vio/*/uevent, and modalias information was
found when 'udevadm monitor -p' was run in the background.

[Regression potential]
Events may be missing and coldplug/hotplug of vio devices may fail. That was
tested in the test case and not found to be the case.

I went to retest to check this, but my next attempt succeeded. As I
was just choosing defaults, I don't think I did anything different.

coming from:

[Bug 1735363] Re: inkscape: Port to Python 3

2019-09-26 Thread Patrick Storz
Yes, we still support Python 2, although the preference is to use Python
3 together with Inkscape 1.0.

For example Mac and Windows packages ship with Python 3, so extensions
not compatible with Python 3 won't run out-of-the-box.

Everything shipped with Inkscape is supposed to run with both Python 2
and Python3, though.

For the specific case of a preseeded snap which we know should have an
associated group, I think we should handle this in livecd-rootfs and
statically create the group in the image since both are static aspects of
the image mastering. We CAN instruct cloud-init to create this as a system
group, but the point is that this is a layering violation; we should not
have to keep the cloud.cfg and the lxd snap in sync with regards to the
properties of the groups being created.

The reason I think that there should be extensions to cloud-init for this at
all is for the case where you have a *non* preseeded package which you want
to install as part of the instance config, and you want to add your user to
the group that will be created by that package. That could be either a deb
or a snap, doesn't matter. I don't think it smells good to have cloud-init
creating the group in this case.

Which means that something else populated grub-installer/bootdev

[Bug 1735363] Re: inkscape: Port to Python 3

2019-09-26 Thread Hachmann
As far as I know, Inkscape 1.0 has not dropped support for Python 2.7,
but aims to keep supporting old third-party extensions, so users can
still use them, even if their maintainer hasn't updated them yet.

[Bug 1845454] Re: Kernel panic with 19.10 beta image

2019-09-26 Thread Seth Forshee
Provided this in irc, but posting here also. Instructions for installing
a MOK that you can use to sign kernels are found here:

https://ubuntu.com/blog/how-to-sign-things-for-secure-boot

Note the comment under "Enrolling the key" about omitting OID
1.3.6.1.4.1.2312.16.1.2 if you want to use the key to sign kernels.

[Bug 1735363] Re: inkscape: Port to Python 3

2019-09-26 Thread Sumana Harihareswara
I'm working on communications regarding the sunsetting of Python 2.x [0]
The way I understand & have phrased my understanding[1] of Inkscape's
plans is: Inkscape's LTS 0.92.x line aims to continue supporting Python
2.7 but Inkscape 0.92.5 will also support Python 3, and the 1.0 line
will drop support for Python 2. And, as I understand it, Inkscape hopes
to release 0.92.5 and 1.0 this calendar year, but that's a hope, not a
firm commitment.

Why doesn't the arm64 kernel/image have bcache module loaded?

[Bug 1845454] Re: Kernel panic with 19.10 beta image

2019-09-26 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
This is the same bug as bug 1844101 I think? If it is, it doesn't
reproduce with secure boot off and we'll need a signed kernel to test.
I'm happy to enrol whatever key in my firmware to test a self-signed
kernel...
