[Bug 1798333] Re: warning "Application already exists, re-requesting properties"

2019-10-11 Thread Moshe Caspi
I hope that I understand your issue correctly, If I remember, I removed
the volume control indicator, added the indicator applet and
ticked/unticked the sound menu option. Might be something similar. My
idea was that some indicators don't exactly fit the distro. I would try
removing your systemload-indicator/indicator-multiload or other
indicators.

[Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour

2019-10-11 Thread Eric Detheridge
I encountered this recently under Ubuntu 16.04.5 with Linux
4.15.0-65-lowlatency with an AMD A8-3870k APU. In the most recent case
the machine was fine for nearly a week until I was reading a large
amount of data off a usb stick. By moving my mouse receiver to a USB 3.0
port I was able to make the mouse work normally again without having to
reboot.

[Bug 1847834] [NEW] Eaon Ermine Live Server can not create mirrored root

2019-10-11 Thread Rob Thomas
Public bug reported:

The historical way of installing with hardware redundancy is to create a
mirrored root volume, using mdraid.

This is no longer possible. There are several issues:

1. Randomly the 'Done' button will not go white, even if the configuration is
correct
2. There is a 'magic' gpt partition created on the first drive you select,
which is required for grub
3. If you remove that, to try to make grub install the old way, curtis crashes
with an error from grub-install saying that it can only install using blocklist
4. No partition is set active

This makes it impossible to actually install 19.10 in a redundant
manner, that can survive a hard drive failure.

** Affects: curtin (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1826968] Re: tzdata package contains invalid entry for Asia/Novosibirsk

2019-10-11 Thread Konstantin Boyandin
Re-installation didn't help.

The "/usr/share/zoneinfo/Asia/Novosibirsk" is just a text file
containing string

Asia/Novosibirsk

I had to copy the corresponding latest file from Ubuntu 18.04 udoate,
where it's not broken.

[Bug 1847832] [NEW] Backport ZoL pull request 9203 into the official packages.

2019-10-11 Thread Alex Ingram
Public bug reported:

Hopefully this is the correct bug tracker to report this on.

Recently, I ran into a bug in ZFS as shipped in Ubuntu 19.10 that caused
the kernel to deadlock and the system to eventually hang.

I was advised by a ZFS on Linux project maintainer that this was a bug
that was fixed in 0.8.2.

The relevant pull request is here:
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/9203

It would probably be a good idea to backport that pull request into
19.10's build of ZFS.

[Bug 1847830] [NEW] HWE kernel 5.0 breaks Joystick 2nd button

2019-10-11 Thread Stephan Eckweiler
Public bug reported:

I've got a generic HID device Joystick with 2 buttons. On the latest
18.04 4.15 kernel both buttons were detected separately and work
correctly. After upgrading to HWE 5.0.0-31 the second button
disappeared. When I press it, the first button gets activated instead.

I've used Wireshark to make sure the Joystick continues to send the
correct Interface descriptor, and it reports the 2 buttons separately in
its payload, according to how the buttons are pressed.

Here is the Interface descriptor the Joystick is submitting:

  0x05, 0x01,// USAGE_PAGE (Generic Desktop)
  0x09, 0x04,// USAGE (Joystick)
  0xa1, 0x01,// COLLECTION (Application)
  0x09, 0x01,// USAGE (Pointer)
  0xA1, 0x00,// COLLECTION (Physical)
  0x09, 0x30,// USAGE (X)
  0x09, 0x31,// USAGE (Y)
  0x15, 0x81,// LOGICAL_MINIMUM (-127)
  0x25, 0x7F,// LOGICAL_MAXIMUM (127)
  0x75, 0x08,// REPORT_SIZE (8)
  0x95, 0x02,// REPORT_COUNT (2)
  0x81, 0x02,// INPUT (Data,Var,Abs)
  0x05, 0x09,// USAGE_PAGE (Button)
  0x19, 0x01,// USAGE_MINIMUM
  0x29, 0x01,// USAGE_MAXIMUM
  0x15, 0x00,// LOGICAL_MINIMUM (0)
  0x25, 0x01,// LOGICAL_MAXIMUM (1)
  0x95, 0x02,// REPORT_COUNT (2)
  0x75, 0x01,// REPORT_SIZE (1)
  0x81, 0x02,// INPUT (Data,Var,Abs)
  0x95, 0x01,// REPORT_COUNT (1)
  0x75, 0x06,// REPORT_SIZE (6)
  0x81, 0x03,// INPUT (Const,Var,Abs)
  0xC0, // END_COLLECTION
  0xC0, // END COLLECTION

Here is the resulting report structure of 3 bytes, describing the
current state of the Joystick:

 X7 X6 X5 X4 X3 X2 X1 X0 8 bit signed relative coordinate x
 Y7 Y6 Y5 Y4 Y3 Y2 Y1 Y0 8 bit signed relative coordinate y
  . . . . . . B1 B0 two bits for Fire buttons

I can confirm from Wireshark that the last byte will be 01 for button1
pressed, 02 for button2 pressed, and 03 for both buttons pressed.
Nevertheless only one button is detected. I've tested that both with
jstest-gtk, and with freedroid. I've tested on a 2nd machine, on which I
did nothing but an upgrade from 4.15 to 5.0 HWE, on 4.15 it worked, on
5.0 it ceased working.

Please advise if you need further info.

[Bug 1847527] Re: Backport systemd-journal-remote fix PR #11953

2019-10-11 Thread Tom Cameron
@ddstreet any configuration that ships lots to a remote host will
trigger this. The server always responds with the bug, so the
configuration effectively doesn't matter. As long as one host is
attempting to send journals to another in Disco, this bug will be

[Bug 1847675] Re: Lenovo thinkpad T440s Trackpoint doesn't work properly

2019-10-11 Thread Rip
I don't know if these are related:

bug/1836237
bug/1847829

(probably not, but it's possible that some touchpad drivers are just
bad. Note that the first one affects every input device, including any
mouse you're using. Inputs stop working so often that I have a hotkey to
disable/enable them - this gets them working again. Otherwise I just
wouldn't be able to use the computer).

[Bug 1847829] [NEW] Three finger tap to middle click stopped working

2019-10-11 Thread Rip
Public bug reported:

I haven't expereinced this before, though a google search shows
complaints from at least 2016.

Three fingers results in a right-click now for whatever reason. I have
the appropriate settings enabled in KDE (I haven't changed them).

Middle click works sometimes after restarting the device via xinput, but
this is very rare.

[Bug 1847500] Re: Full RAM on Pi4 isn't accessible when using u-boot

2019-10-11 Thread Dave Jones
Figured it out; you're using the v2019.07-rpi4-wip branch while I based
the latest u-boot on the rpi4 branch (which is slightly later and
appears a bit more polished). After a bit of experimentation it turns
out the crucial difference is in the config, specifically in a comment
(which is why it took me a while to notice!):

# CONFIG_ARCH_FIXUP_FDT_MEMORY is not set

This line is missing from the rpi4 branch. Because ARCH_FIXUP_FDT_MEMORY
defaults to "y" this is enough to cause a call to
arch_fixup_memory_banks() in the packaged version of u-boot, which is
what causes the RAM to be limited to 1Gb (I haven't dug into the
mechanism why; for now I'm content to flip the config switch and have a
version that allows full access to the RAM, but I might have a look at
this if I get a bit of time next week).

Anyway, I'll get a new version of u-boot built and see if I can get
someone to sponsor it for release (might be too late, but it's not the
end of the world if it doesn't make it into the release; it'll be a
trivial update for users).

[Bug 1847822] Re: CephFS authorize fails with unknown cap type

2019-10-11 Thread Billy Olsen
This appears to have been broken by commit
d63fccb52241a216a08a92e615bcff008d365392 which added a validation for
all of the capabilities in this code path. The fs authorize command
works by adding a new capability keyed by the path. This capability with
the path key was not understood by the standard capability check method
being invoked so it returned False to indicate the capabilities are not
valid, which results in an EINVAL value.

The patch included in the pull request fixes this by changing to only
check the mds and osd capabilities instead of the full set.

[Bug 1847823] [NEW] High CPU usage of dbus-daemon for minutes after passing a path to a program to open

2019-10-11 Thread Fenyvesi Attila
Public bug reported:

I can experience very high CPU usage by dbus-daemon and delayed opening of
programs like leafpad and vlc. CPU usage of dbus-daemon is 100% of a CPU core
for 3 to 5 minutes if I do one of the below operations:
a) launching leafpad from thunar to open a text file (double-clicking on the
file)
b) running the command "leafpad /path-to-file/file.txt"
c) launching vlc from thunar to open a video file
d) pressing Alt+F2 so as to open the Application Launcher
e) pressing Ctrl+Alt+T to open xfce4-terminal
f) opening xfce-taskmanager by clicking on the tray widget in xfce4-panel.
When I experience the above problem, a reboot can solve the problem, but
sometimes the problem disappears after some time without rebooting.

I am considering upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 just to eliminate this
bug.
My system is up-to-date.

High CPU usage of dbus-daemon for minutes after passing a path to a
program to open.

[Bug 1847822] [NEW] CephFS authorize fails with unknown cap type

2019-10-11 Thread Billy Olsen
Public bug reported:

Attempting to provide access to a user within Ceph to a specific mount
path fails with unknown cap type. This appears to be due to the monitor
not knowing how to validate the caps that are provided with the mount
path per upstream bug https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/39395 and
subsequent pull requests.

This is fixed in Mimic (13.1.0+) and included in the current Luminous
devel release (upcoming 12.2.13).

Steps to recreate:

1. Install ceph w/ ceph-fs.

2. Mount ceph filesystem and create subdirectory for restricting access
$ ceph-fuse -k /etc/ceph/ceph.client.foo.keyring --id foo -m 10.5.0.5:6789
/mnt/ceph-fs
$ mkdir /mnt/ceph-fs/bar

3. Authorize access for ceph user to rw a directory
$ ceph fs authorize ceph-fs client.foo /bar rw

Expected Results:

The authorize command to succeed

Actual Results:

Error EINVAL: unknown cap type '/bar'

Upstream pull-request:
https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/28666

[Bug 1847700] Re: lubuntu 19.10 EFI install failed -- held broken packages 2019-10-10 daily

2019-10-11 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Looks to me like this was an issue of version mismatches with packages
that depended on one another. It was never really broken, but at the
particular time the ISO was built, it combined some things together that
didn't play well together. Anyways Chris confirmed we're good in today's
daily.

@zhangyoufu, unfortunately this still isn't fixed upstream. I can reproduce it

I'll have to review the upstream code to see what's going on.

In principle, the snap build should follow the changes in behavior in
livecd-rootfs, rather than blocking us from making any changes; it's a
sanity check against accidental drift. As Oliver says:

> adding a new entry to one of the readonly password
> db files is fine but requires changes in livecd-rootfs

So it needs a separate confirmation for the snap builds to work, but I
don't see any reason we should special case a revert for the ubuntu-base
build.
