I'm not actually sure that E or D are affected by this. Targeting them
anyway to make sure to look into it before closing the bug.

[Bug 1848627] [NEW] bash root autocomplete disabled on upgrade

2019-10-17 Thread NBR
Public bug reported:

In 19.04 I could type apt upd or apt fu and autocomplete would
work. It doesn't work in 19.10 as root (though it does as my normal
user). I fixed the issue by uncommenting the last lines of /root/.bashrc
but I don't understand why you'd break root user autocomplete by
default.

This is in an upgrade scenario from 19.04, I don't know if it's
similarly broken in a clean install.

[Bug 1848626] [NEW] When seeking in VLC playing most videos, sound is choppy for 9s after seek.

2019-10-17 Thread NBR

System was working fine in Ubuntu 19.04. After update to 19.10 and

I tested had trouble, but the severity of the problem varies even in the
problem videos. The sound cuts in and out inconsistently, as if some

[Bug 1845898] Re: Unable to set touchpad Edge Scrolling in Eoan

2019-10-17 Thread Erick Brunzell via ubuntu-bugs
Sorry I lumped so much text into one box. I must have been asleep at the
wheel.

I was just setting up another of these today with 18.04.1 and it's also
effected but I know Xenial worked fine out-of-box so I'm just guessing
(with inadequate studying) that the change to GNOME as default resulted
in slightly different dependencies?

It is indeed a low priority bug, or I'm almost hesitant to call it a
true bug since apparently it effects a very limited number of older
laptops.

Whilst trying out a few things I managed to solve my problem by
temporarily disabling my VPN. Might have been a random coincidence but I
wanted to leave this here in case it helped others. Worth a try anyway

bionic (daily) test using 20191015 (latest 'daily')

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/384/builds/201164/testcases/1303/results/

vlc is not found on ISO, so it was installed (`sudo apt install vlc`)

vlc opened from terminal, from menu, and from pcmanfm (ie. navigating to
files and clicking open).

No issues found, and issue was found in #41 is gone. I don't intend
downloading i386 iso to confirm #42 is also fixed - I'll assume it is :)

[Bug 1848621] [NEW] lost all passwords on 19.10 when chromium-browser deb was replaced by a snap

2019-10-17 Thread TomaszChmielewski
Public bug reported:

After I've upgraded 19.04 to 19.10, chromium-browser deb was replaced by
a snap package.

When chromium is now started from a snap package, I no longer have any
passwords which I had saved in deb version of chromium-browser.

This is quite annoying; a workaround for now is to downgrade to
chromium-browser deb from 19.04.

I can't seem to reproduce the bug just yet but I also don't have as many
pages as you do...

As a first step please try uninstalling your non-Ubuntu extensions, as
we find extensions cause a large number of bugs and side-effects. So
it's usually helpful to try removing them first. That means uninstalling
them, don't just disable them...

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2019-10-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The kernel log shows a long delay but it's unclear what that delay is:

[3.907379] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready
[ 49.467099] hv_balloon: Max. dynamic memory size: 17000 MB
[ 107.602021] Lockdown: Xorg: ioperm is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7
[ 111.600955] rfkill: input handler disabled

Please reboot, reproduce the problem again and then run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the file 'journal.txt' here.

[Bug 1848616] [NEW] LightDM crashes and logs me out when resuming from suspend

2019-10-17 Thread Douglas Silva
Public bug reported:

I close the laptop lid and let it suspend. On resume, the whole desktop
is frozen for a while. Nothing works during this time, no CAPS LOCK
indicator LED, neither TTY switching. Then the screen goes dark and I
see the LightDM login screen. I was logged out.

This is a regression, since it wasn't reproducible on Ubuntu 19.04.

How reproducible?
100% of the time.

I am not totally sure it was LightDM's fault. It is my best guess based
on the behavior I witnessed.

See logs.

schroot (1.6.10-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * By default mark all mounts done by schroot-mount as "private"
to avoid bad interactions caused by systemd's default of "shared"
that resulted in failure to unmount them.

[Bug 1802617] Re: After upgrade to 18.10 boot fails on waiting for encrypted source device

2019-10-17 Thread Joseph Borg
Sorry for the spam, this is how to fix this (note it will mean your
swapfile isn't encrypted anymore and I'm not sure how much of a
security risk that poses).

After you've run `do-release-upgrade -d`:

1) sudo swapoff -a
2) sudo cryptsetup remove cryptswap1
3) Edit `/etc/fstab`, remove the line mentioning cryptswap1
4) Edit `/etc/crypttab `, remove the line mentioning cryptswap1
5) sudo update-initramfs -u
6) sudo update-grub
7) Reboot

as comment #11, except using a 19.10 recovery instead. This will get

[Bug 1714881] Re: no gdm3 greeter with nvidia quadro and modeset=1, discrete nvidia (not optimus)

Nvidia release notes for Linux, Solaris, and FreeBSD driver 440.26 [beta

"Fixed a bug that could cause a blank screen on some DisplayPort
monitors when logging in to GNOME, if the nvidia-drm kernel module
parameter modeset=1 is specified."

I haven't tested this, I hope the beta driver gets packaged.

2019-10-17 Thread Bryan Quigley
Public bug reported:

Thoughts on dropping bzr-* depends so ubuntu-dev-tools doesn't pull any
python2 bits?

>From a quick pass, all of the other changes needed are already in git
-https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu-dev-tools/log/

I think we want to have more developers running with no /usr/bin/python
to catch possible regressions.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: py2-removal

** Tags added: py2-removal

** Summary changed:

- Drop python2 depends, and suggest python3 packages
+ Drop bzr and other python2 depends/suggests

[Bug 1802622] Re: Ubuntu Cosmic nvidia-340 needs patch for "Bad or missing usercopy whitelist? Kernel memory exposure attempt detected from SLUB object 'nvidia_stack_t'

2019-10-17 Thread Tyler Hicks
We're considering disabling CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY_FALLBACK in
preparation for 20.04 LTS so getting this fixed soon would be necessary
to keep the driver working.

[Bug 1758243] Re: bumblebee needs configuration changes to work with nvidia-driver-390 and libglvnd0

2019-10-17 Thread Mathieu Reho
Hello,

I just added these env variables before the command line and it works
perfectly fine !

For example :

$> __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia
%command%

It is not necessary to export them first, the best way is to set them in
the command line like I did, in order to have them only for this
instance, and not for the entire system.

@Marcos : Exactly, you're right =>

adds.html

Thank you anyway :)

[Bug 1848589] Re: Xenial update: 4.4.195 upstream stable release

2019-10-17 Thread Connor Kuehl
The following patches were skipped because they have already been
applied:

* mISDN: enforce CAP_NET_RAW for raw sockets
* appletalk: enforce CAP_NET_RAW for raw sockets
* ax25: enforce CAP_NET_RAW for raw sockets
* ieee802154: enforce CAP_NET_RAW for raw sockets

Note: the following patch was applied (after reverting our backport) as
it is now a clean cherry pick.

* mac80211: handle deauthentication/disassociation from TDLS peer

[Bug 1848598] [NEW] Xenial update: 4.4.196 upstream stable release

2019-10-17 Thread Connor Kuehl
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   4.4.196 upstream stable release
   from git://git.kernel.org/

[Bug 1848599] [NEW] unable to install grub with Win10 dual boot

2019-10-17 Thread Damien Danneels
Public bug reported:

I am installing Ubuntu 19.10 on my new computer, keeping Windows 10 as
dual-boot. I've previously disabled secure-boot and settled legagy boot instead
of UEFI.
I've manually partitioned my free disk space with LVM and an EXT4 root
partition. At the end of the installation process, i get an error when trying
to write the boot loader (grub-install). I've tried both whole disk device and
first partition (EFI system, already installed with Windows).

While still running from installation usb key, i tried to manually run
"sudo grub-install /dev/nvme0n1p1" which gives something like "unable to
obtain canonical path to /cow".
