[Bug 1850874] Re: gnome-shell 100% CPU usage on all cores when animated gif is displayed
I'm not sure what changed to make 19.10 heavier than 19.04, but I can explain what you are seeing. What you are seeing is an OpenGL-based application (Firefox or Chromium) that is being forced to update its entire window constantly. Since it is OpenGL-based, gnome-shell does not have the opportunity to identify just the small area of the screen that is changing, but has to update the entire application window at full frame rate. To do that in software without a GPU is expected to use a lot of CPU and multiple threads, sorry. ** Summary changed: - gnome-shell 100% CPU usage on all cores when animated gif is displayed + gnome-shell (via Mesa/LLVMpipe in a virtual machine) uses all CPU cores just to update the screen ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Triaged ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850874 Title: gnome-shell (via Mesa/LLVMpipe in a virtual machine) uses all CPU cores just to update the screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1850874/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, it is a virtual machine (and hence 3 CPUs!) - though it didn't show these symptoms with Ubuntu 19.04 (noticed by laptop fans going on as soon as I visit a page with animated gifs, i.e. showing build status and such). [Bug 1850887] Re: Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs
Switching on connect is an intentional design choice for Ubuntu. It's been like that for a few years although PulseAudio 13.0 in Ubuntu 19.10 has introduced extra sensitivity with respect to HDMI events... If you would like to disable it then please just comment out this line: load-module module-switch-on-connect in /etc/pulse/default.pa So this isn't a bug, but it does seem to overlap with bug 1847570 so please see that too. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Tags added: eoan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850887 Title: Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1850887/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850887] [NEW] Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs
Public bug reported: PulseAudio reverts the sound to HDMI all the time when a HDMI related power event occurs. That means, although I have set another USB sound device plugged in and set as default under sound settings, when an application like Kodi or the system shuts off the HDMI monitor and I reactivate the monitor, the sound is set to HDMI output again and again. That probably has to do with the fix to the reported Bug # 1711101 and definitely not happened at Ubuntu 19.04. I switched to Ubuntu 19.10 two days ago. Setting the USB device as default does not help, even when done by PulseAudio mixer (gui) and removing HDMI output from the alternatives option. Expected behavior: PulseAudio keeps the sound setting to the selected device Actual behavior: PulseAudio changes to HDMI at every HDMI power event Annoying manual workaround: Setting the desired Audio option on the control panel after every HDMI power event again ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Component: pulseaudio Version: 1:13.0-1ubuntu1 ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: audio hdmi power pulseaudio sound -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850887 Title: Audio / Sound reverts to HDMI when power event occurs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1850887/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850833] Re: Changing text color in Thunderbird table will crash gnome desktop
Hi: I had to use step 3 and the new bug report is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1850881 Now, there are a number of (IMHO) really weird things that also happened in this round of reproductions: After reproducing the crash, I had these crash files: -rw-r- 1 jagosta whoopsie 193242154 Oct 31 21:43 _opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash -rw-r- 1 jagosta whoopsie 0 Oct 31 21:51 _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash So, the gnome crash file was empty this time, but there was also a chrome crash file, so I tried running `ubuntu-bug` on the chrome crash file. When I did this it stated that it failed to generate a report because google-chrome was out of date and needed to be updated. So, I updated `google-chrome-stable (78.0.3904.87-1) to (78.0.3904.70-1)`, and then I tried to reproduce the bug. This time, the gnome window manager appeared to crash and then reset -- so I did not lose the window manager. But, Chrome and Thunderbird both crashed. I was left with these crash files: -rw-r- 1 jagosta whoopsie 38273264 Oct 31 22:02 _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash -rw-r--r-- 1 jagosta whoopsie 0 Oct 31 22:02 _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.upload -rw--- 1 whoopsie whoopsie37 Oct 31 22:02 _usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.uploaded Bug # 1850881 was submitted for this gnome-shell crash file. I'm still seeing this behaviour on 18.04 LTS in both chromium and google-chrome. To workaround the issue, visit chrome://flags/ and search for "partial". An option called "Partial swap" should appear, with a flag called "#ui- disable-partial-swap". Set the associated dropdown to say "Disabled". Then press "Restart" and let the browser restart itself. Then visit chrome://gpu/ and verify that the last item in the first table under "Version Information" is "Command Line", and than "--ui-disable-partial- swap" appears in the list of commandline options. For me this doesn't fix 100% of the problem, but makes it much better -- when maximizing the browser window, there isn't garbage at the top of the window. On restoring the window, the problem (or a similar problem) is still there, but simply mousing over it makes it go away; unlike before, I don't need to run the mouse over sections of the window trying to get it to repaint the whole width of the corrput area. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309076 Title: Chromium-custom title bar corrupt after maximize&restore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/chromium-browser/+bug/1309076/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1846940]
Seems to be special stuff with controls - sigh. When breaking in svx\source\sdr\contact\objectcontactofpageview.cxx:290 in line pProcessor2D->process(xPrimitiveSequence); it can be seen that the ViewInformation2D from *this and at the processor is the same, while later in LazyControlCreationPrimitive2D::get2DDecomposition it is *different*. This is because the processed SeqOfPrim modifies it - in VclProcessor2D::RenderTransformPrimitive2D. This means the ControlPrimitive itself contains the offset (in my local example '30' which leads to a pixel offset of 1.0889). Forcing this to zero silences the repaint. Thus the question is: Who and why does someone create a TransformPrimitive2D? There are probably good reasons, so maybe we get a principal problem here...? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1846940 Title: [upstream] Loop in libreoffice-calc when scrolling to top of spreadsheet To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/1846940/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please provide a screenshot of 'top' running in a Terminal window, showing that gnome-shell (or anything) is using the CPU. ** Tags added: eoan performance ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850874 Title: gnome-shell 100% CPU usage on all cores when animated gif is displayed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1850874/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850833] Re: Changing text color in Thunderbird table will crash gnome desktop
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850833 Title: Changing text color in Thunderbird table will crash gnome desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1850833/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850201] Re: Memory usage grows when locking/unlocking the screen
gnome-shell (via gjs and mozjs) actually doesn't free memory immediately when JavaScript objects get deleted. It defers the garbage collection until more stress (more memory use) is put on the system. What this means is even without any leaks it will appear to grow for some period of time before shrinking again. [Bug 1850746] Re: mythtv-backend-setup fails to add user to group mythtv under XFCE
Hi @0123peter The `apt source` command I used is documented in `man apt-get`, ie. "source causes apt-get to fetch source packages. APT will examine the available packages to decide which source package to fetch. It will then find and download into the current directory the newest available version...". My fingers just typed `apt` that time instead of `apt-get` (`apt` knows how to deal with many `apt-get` commands). Your sources.list also need to have "deb-src" lines present so source can be found & downloaded. If you need help with it, I'd suggest looking at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/finding-help/712 which lists many support options. [Bug 1850872] [NEW] When upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10 with ZFS Root Pool, Upgrader removed zfsutils-linux
Public bug reported: I just upgraded from 18.10 to 19.04 and then to 19.10. I have had ZFS installed in this machine for years. My Root pool is on LUKS encrypted SSD's which are morrored by ZFS. The upgrade from 18.10 to 19.04 worked as expected with no errors. And I was able to reboot, unlock the disks and boot ubuntu 19.04 fine. When i then did the upgrade to 19.10 using do-release-upgrade, I got errors installing grub, the 5.3 kernel and friendly-recovery They reported that they could not find my root pool. I did not reboot after the upgrade, and tried to run zpool to see if there was any issue and found zpool was not installed after the do- release-upgrade. It WAS installed prior to running do-release-upgrade. So do-release-upgrade did not upgrade my previous zfsutils-linux package, it seems to have removed it. Without rebooting, i ran: sudo apt install zfsutils-linux zfs-initramfs zfs-zed All of these packages were missing, and they installed correctly. strangely however the zfs-dkms package was upgraded correctly and still installed. This caused the initramfs to be rebuilt, and grub to report no more errors, fixing the issue for me. ** Affects: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: do-release-upgrade -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850872 Title: When upgrading from 19.04 to 19.10 with ZFS Root Pool, Upgrader removed zfsutils-linux To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1850872/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Mythbuntu-bugs] [Bug 1850746] Re: mythtv-backend-setup fails to add user to group mythtv under XFCE
Tickets for this should probably be forwarded upstream, hopefully with a patch. As it stands now, there aren't much eyes on this package and I don't have a way to test this anymore as I don't use MythTV nor Ubuntu. Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. [Bug 1835737] Re: SRU: backport Python 3.8 to bionic
Hello Matthias, or anyone else affected, Accepted python3-stdlib-extensions into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3-stdlib- extensions/3.6.9-1~18.04 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: python3-stdlib-extensions (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835737 Title: SRU: backport Python 3.8 to bionic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3-stdlib-extensions/+bug/1835737/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850866] [NEW] Please sync amd64-microcode from debian bullseye
Public bug reported: The amd64-microcode version (3.20181128.1ubuntu2) is packaged in 2018, which is too old to support the latest AMD Ryzen 3000 series CPUs. Instead, in its buggy state, when RDRAND is being asked, the CPU will always produce the same result, 0x. [Bug 1850746] Re: mythtv-backend-setup fails to add user to group mythtv under XFCE
Sorry if I got a bit excited. On a fresh install of Xubuntu, Mythtv backend setup does not work. If it worked, then when it was first run it would add the user to the group "mythtv", something that requires root access. My guess is that long ago a pop up box would prompt the user for their password before continuing. The grep above revels multiple places where gksu is expected to exist. Because gksu has been removed from the distribution each of these lines is a bug that leaves a variable empty. I don't know what the correct fix is. It seems a bit to demanding to expect the end user edit /etc/group in a terminal. The man page for apt does not mention "source", is that documented anywhere? I got a "permission denied". kdebase-bin seems to be an alternative to gksu it does not have an installation candidate either. There is a way to do it, gpated has a pop up that prompts for a password. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850746 Title: mythtv-backend-setup fails to add user to group mythtv under XFCE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv/+bug/1850746/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1850184] Re: losetup -f broken in 2.0.6-1ubuntu2
We found the issue -- I think xnox is going to report it via proper channels. But basically it's this: sizeof(dev_t) = 4 sizeof(__kernel_old_dev_t) = 8 This makes the kernel's loop_info 8 bytes bigger than klibc's and so the kernel is writing past the end of the loopinfo on the stack, which until now has avoided causing problems by sheer luck. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850184 Title: losetup -f broken in 2.0.6-1ubuntu2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/klibc/+bug/1850184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1843207] Re: Doesn't boot on Raspberry Pi 4
Hello, Apologies for a newbie question. Is there a scheduled release date for the upgrade/update at ubuntu-19.10-preinstalled-server-arm64+raspi3.img? Just need to get my ducks in a row by suspending work on the current image with respect to items other than the total_mem issue. Thanks.
