[Bug 1848790] Re: USB not working under arm64 on Pi4 with 4G ram

2019-11-28 Thread Erik Castricum
@hui.wang, see #20
I had to set this again this morning on updating.
Is this known? If not set I get this upon flash-kernel:

erikcas@thuis:~$ sudo flash-kernel
/usr/share/flash-kernel/functions: line 160: warning: command substitution:
ignored null byte in input
Unsupported platform.

I set this (manually) some days ago on flashing 1013 kernel. It seems
not to be persistent.

If not known, is a seperate bug to be filed?

[Bug 1854380] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.28-0ubuntu0.16.04.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

sql_mode=NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION'
2019-11-28T16:19:14.950399Z 0 [ERROR] Aborting

This is actually supposed to be set with a commandline argument:
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/sql-mode.html
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/sql-mode.html
even back in
https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/sql-mode.html

You have set this as entry in your /etc/mysql/my.cnf
I'd assume you'd need to adapt your configuration, drop this custom part, then
upgrade and then bring the config in at the right place that works for the new
version.

2019-11-28 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1854395] Re: apachectl configtest segmentation fault

2019-11-28 Thread Tom Reynolds
I'm not sure why I missed this when we were looking into it on IRC, but
this is apparently something involving the openssl and nss crypto
libraries / frameworks. I'm not enough of a developer to understand what
exactly seems to be the problem, though, but knowing that apache httpd
supports HTTPS with not just openssl I'd check which of these modules
are enabled, and maybe make sure only one of them is used temporarily
while you check whether you can still reproduce. I.e. look for 'ssl'
(openssl) and something 'nss'-like in /etc/apache2/modes-enabled/ and
maybe try disabling or re-enabling one of those.

I also think you should still try to
  sudo apport-collect 1854395
after reproducing this segfault.

[Bug 1854396] Re: virt-manager freezes the whole desktop for 3 seconds when starting/stopping a VM

2019-11-28 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
That is interesting Mathieu,

2.2.1 is the latest official release and I found no existing fixes since then
to try
  $ git log HEAD...v2.2.1 -- virtManager/systray.py

Therefore I'd ask you to report the bug upstream [1] and ping back here
with the link to the one you created. That way we can track it and
integrate whatever fix they come up.

Furthermore it will be interesting if you have had any customizations to
the Desktop - e.g. X11 or Wayland or other non-default plugins to Gnome?

[Bug 1854427] [NEW] installation failed

2019-11-28 Thread james guo via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

The installation for ubuntu 18.04 and 19.10 failed on laptop called dc pro as
in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1751990
for ubuntu 16.04.03 and 16.04.06 (should have same problem on 04 and 05)

on 18.04 the problem is the same as 16.04.03+ the moving 5 dots will
stop and system hang

on 19.10 it will eject the disk and print something like
nouveau problem
/dev/sr0 read problem
squashfs problem
I think the problem occured before that since the 5 dots stop moving and cdrom
stopped then both restart then cdrom rejected and print out above message

[Bug 1850099] Re: Kernel 5.3.0-19 panic after upgrade to eoan ermine from disco dingo

2019-11-28 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last -rc kernel works and the first -rc kernel doesn’t
work from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the working version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the non-working version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If it doesn’t work,
$ git bisect old
Otherwise,
$ git bisect new
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit fixes the issue.

[Bug 1854404] Re: [MIR] libslirp (as it was part of QEMU)

2019-11-28 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
** Description changed:

  [Availability]

- TODO: The package must already be in the Ubuntu universe, and must build
- for the architectures it is designed to work on.
+ - Package is already in Ubuntu universe and was added in focal:

- TODO: mention which binaries we actually want (if the package builds
- more than one). Check the dependency-tree.txt file which binary we
- actually need vs the debian/control file in the source
+  libslirp | 4.0.0-2 | focal/universe | source
+  libslirp0 | 4.0.0-2 | focal/universe | amd64, arm64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x
+
+ - Source package builds: libslirp0 and libslirp-dev:
+
+ $ dpkg -L libslirp0
+ /.
+ /usr
+ /usr/lib
+ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu

+ /usr/share

+ /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libslirp.so
+ /usr/share/doc/libslirp-dev/changelog.Debian.gz

  [Rationale]

- TODO: check if this code (or older versions of it) was part of mailman2
- already - if it was leave here: This code was formerly part of mailman2
- which is in main, but was split into an extra package and evolved from
- there on its own)
+ The library, whose this package distributes, was part of QEMU, and has
+ been spinned off just recently:
+
+ commit 7c57bdd820
+ Author: Marc-André Lureau
+ Date:   Wed Apr 24 08:00:41 2019
+
+ build-sys: move slirp as git submodule project
+
+ The slirp project is now hosted on freedesktop at:
+ https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/slirp.
+
+ The libslirp source was extracted from qemu/slirp filtered through
+ clang-format (available in project tree). The qemu slirp directory can
+ be swapped by a git submodule.
+
+ Signed-off-by: Marc-André Lureau
+ Message-Id: <20190424110041.8175-3-marcandre.lur...@redhat.com>
+ Signed-off-by: Samuel Thibault
+
+ But it is still used as a dependency for QEMU project (CONFIG_SLIRP),
+ and that's why it should, IMO, be maintained in [main].

  [Security]

- TODO: check the security History of the package
- - http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/universe.html
- - http://cve.mitre.org/cve/cve.html
+ - https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=libslirp - shows 2
+ CVEs:
+
+   - CVE-2019-15890 - libslirp 4.0.0 has a use-after-free in ip_reass in
ip_input.c.
+   - CVE-2019-14378 - ip_reass in ip_input.c in libslirp 4.0.0 has a
heap-based buffer overflow via a large packet because it mishandles a case
involving the first fragment.
+
+ - both cves were handled by Debian as well:
+
+   - https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2019/09/msg00021.html
+   - https://www.debian.org/security/2019/dsa-4506

  [Quality assurance]

- The mailman3 stacks as of now (Disco) installs fine and provides a base
- config. But due to the nature of the package that needs further modification
- to be of real use.
+ - Both package install fine. libslirp-dev correctly includes the .so
+ alias to latest libslirp0 .so.0 file.

- TODO: The package must not ask debconf questions higher than medium if
- it is going to be installed by default. The debconf questions must have
- reasonable defaults.
+ - Packages don't have any debconf questions.

- TODO: There are no long-term outstanding bugs which affect the usability
- of the program to a major degree. To support a package, we must be
- reasonably convinced that upstream supports and cares for the package.
+ - No long-term outstanding issues:

- TODO: The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's
- bug tracking systems must be evaluated. Important bugs must be pointed
- out and discussed in the MIR report.
+ * There are no bugs in launchpad for libslirp
+ * There are no bugs in Debian project for libslirp
+   * There are 3 on-going registered issues upstream:
+ - To make slirp as a standalone process and not a lib.
+ - To rewrite slip in rust (some examples given, nothing big)
+ - Create integration with OSS fuzz project
+ * Fixes to be merged:

- TODO: The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu (check out the
- Debian PTS)
+ - Overall package seems really well maintained, specially by Marc-André
+ from the QEMU team.

- TODO: The package should not deal with exotic hardware which we cannot
- support.
+ - Important bugs:
+   - https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/slirp/libslirp/merge_requests/20/commits
+ - we should make sure to include those fixes before feature freeze

- TODO: If the package

[Bug 1854376] Re: Flathub Download Size is confusing

2019-11-28 Thread Robert Ancell
I'm pretty sure the Snap doesn't include the runtime, which is a little
confusing but something you generally only hit the first time you
download.

I recommend you file the Flatpak size issue in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/issues as it's not
something we're actively working on in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1854413] [NEW] Backlight adjustments shows OSD but does not change anything on Samsung OLED panel

2019-11-28 Thread Kyle Altendorf
Public bug reported:

When running Ubuntu with linux-image-5.3.0-23-generic, mainline 5.3.13,
or latest 5.4+ my Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 with a Samsung OLED panel is
unable to change the backlight brightness. The buttons trigger the on-
screen display and move the bar but the actual display brightness does
not change. With the kernel option i915.enable_dpcd_backlight=1 it does
make the backlight change but erratically. For example moving through
the range you get stuff like off, medium bright, dim, bright, medium,
off. This does work in Ubuntu linux-image-4.15.0-1059-oem. It seems
the following commits in particular make the difference.

UBUNTU: SAUCE: i915: intel_dp_aux_backlight: Fix max backlight calculations
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem/+git/eoan/commit/?h=oem=ff39163c455f31005e2709a2006a7605b3d8a05f

UBUNTU: SAUCE: drm/i915: customize DPCD brightness control for specific panel
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem/+git/eoan/commit/?h=oem=cf7286b44a6e27967f5ed134c4492dd17bde118a

It has been explained to me that these OEM changes are unlikely to be
directly ported into -generic images but it seems relevant to document
the issue. I ported the above commits to the latest linux mainline
kernel and am running that (other than while reporting this issue).
This was in part because >= 5.3.12 fixes another issue with this
hardware where the screen remains black after a resume
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1854177).  I have
filed https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=205699.

https://github.com/altendky/linux/commit/395eb4b85f6a0f85061c0598247727de0d9316f6
https://github.com/altendky/linux/commit/c2dc38e6aadf3d979bea83e382a1b119574df7af

Built with:

git clean -fdx && cp /boot/config-5.3.0-23-generic .config && yes '' |
make oldconfig && make clean && make -j `getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN` deb-
pkg LOCALVERSION=-altendky-backlight

Note that the use of DEVICE_ID_ANY is likely bad and the correct ID for
this panel should be identified. I wanted to first confirm it worked
before bothering to figure out which ID was needed there and how to get
it.

I have naively ported these patches. While I have done embedded C for
years and some hardware design... I am not familiar with Linux kernel
development nor any details of controlling this hardware.
