[Bug 1855567] Re: msmtp extremely out of date - no longer works with various SSL/TLS services

2019-12-09 Thread ylluminate
I can dig this back up here, but I'm curious: this is clearly a problem
on multiple levels and needs to be addressed regardless of the details
for which you're asking. Am I missing something as to why this would
still be marked as undecided or such a peculiar ambiguity that's being
desired here right now? This should simply be done without this strange
rigmarole.

Hi Dan, `apt-get upgrade` pulls packages from the ESM repositories but
couldn't upgrade. then it reverted to 'disable'. Then I followed the
steps provided by Joshua and removed the repos. Then ESM is enabled and
the upgrade is going smoothly.

Thank you guys for your time and help.

[Bug 1849160] Re: after deb->snap transition, chromium no longer sees local password store

2019-12-09 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Chromium uses different backends to store passwords based on the desktop
environment, so passwords stored under a KDE session won't be visible
under a GNOME session, and vice-versa. That's an upstream shortcoming
though, nothing specific to the snap.

That said, if you could quickly fade in menu selections instead of
changing them instantaneously then that should be a workaround. It might
also look nice for everyone else.

[Bug 200671] Re: I want a font like Fixedsys

2019-12-09 Thread Derek_
Jesko, this TTF file is the same as what I uploaded in 2009, but it is
set as being bold. If you have both this and the one above (from
2009-05-01) installed, this one, which is visually identical, should
automatically get used for the bold weight.

[Bug 1846447] Re: Selection flickers to dark grey each time it moves instead of using the same light grey

2019-12-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Good news for everyone but me! This is a feature/imperfection in the
design of my Dell U2413 monitors. The "bug" does not occur on any other
screen that I can find.

The problem I am seeing on the Dell U2413s is called LCD Response Time
Compensation (RTC) or just "overdrive". It is a technique used to avoid
ghosting but means the LCD very briefly switches to the wrong colour
level as shown in the attached measurement from an actual Dell U2413.

Article about my problematic monitors:
https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2413.htm#gaming

[Bug 1838839] Re: Install of custom kernel fails after recent dkms update

2019-12-09 Thread ucb-cy
New to the Ubuntu community & issue tracker so apologies if this comment
should go elsewhere.

I am seeing the same behavior on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (bionic) after
following the procedure for compiling a new kernel at
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/installation-guide/amd64/ch08s06.html. The
compile completes successfully but installation fails when running sudo
dpkg -i ../linux-image...deb.

After adding "set -x" to /etc/kernel/postinst.d/x-grub-legacy-ec2 and
/usr/sbin/update-grub-legacy-ec2, it looks like the /usr/sbin/update-
grub-legacy-ec2 script is failing in the ucf_update_kernels function.

[Bug 1849160] Re: after deb->snap transition, chromium no longer sees local password store

2019-12-09 Thread TomaszChmielewski
I'm normally using Kubuntu (Plasma session) and had this problem. I've
run "snap connect chromium:password-manager-service" and it helped.

However, if I log out, and choose the default Ubuntu (Gnome session) and
try to use Chromium, it's again without passwords, and re-running "snap
connect chromium:password-manager-service" does not help.

Please advise how to get the lost passwords back in that case.

[Bug 1855804] Re: touchpad stopped working all of a sudden. Wired mouse still works. model is Thinkpad T440. Ubuntu 16.04

2019-12-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

No details about your touchpad have been provided (make model etc), but
if it's a Synaptics s3203, TM3108-002, TM2714-002 .. it's possible that
this is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1854798

If you look at your `dmesg` log you may find messages like the following
providing detail on your actual hardware.

[2.111242] rmi4_f01 rmi4-00.fn01: found RMI device, manufacturer:
Synaptics, product: s3203, fw id: 1522295
[2.124077] usb 2-5: new high-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd
[2.175237] input: Synaptics s3203 as
/devices/pci:00/INT33C3:00/i2c-0/i2c-DLL060A:00/0018:06CB:2734.0001/input/input6

NOTE: I copied that from the 1854798 bug report, so it won't likely
match your system hardware.

I would suggest confirming your actual hardware (is it Synaptics models
like I'm betting it is) as then the bug-fix outlined in that possible
duplicate report will apply. Please report back here with results, and
if you tried the suggestions in the duplicate link and they work.

FYI: Duplicate reports are far more useful than 'affects me to' clicks,
so thank you for filing, and helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1855803] [NEW] Lubuntu 20.04 changing screen positions then drag pcmanfm-qt and it crashes

2019-12-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 20.04 daily testing on hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro
nvs 290)

Exploration for other bugs, which involved numerous changes of screen
positions (relative to one another using Monitor.Settings). On
selecting a position (changed) to test I tried to drag pcmanfm-qt window
so it was fully on a display (it was partially on both displays and
partially off-screens).

Expected result:

pcmanfm-qt would complete window move & could be dropped on new location
fully visible.

Actual result:

as I click on top window-dressing to drag it so fully on one display,
window closes with entry in /var/crash showing crash.

Hi GShyam,
This issue looks like a duplicate of bug 1854798, you can try the suggestions
there, or just boot with an older kernel before the kernel update (e.g.
4.15.0-70). If you think this is not the same issue, please feel free to change
the bug status.

Thank you.

Exploring the vlc privacy & network.. appearing and this issue was
noticed still occurring.

I acknowledged this first whilst running XFWM4; returning to openbox it
was there though. Sorry.

To create it on hp 8200; it requires me to have my top-display at the
bottom, and my-bottom display above (top) my other display. Normally I
don't test in this format as it screws with my head mouse-operation
wise...

[Bug 1804341] Re: lubuntu 19.04 daily - vlc opened privacy-and-network-policy (first-run) window partially obscured by panel

2019-12-09 Thread Chris Guiver
same hp8200 session as comment #11

`rm ~/.config/vl* -rf`
`sudo apt install xfwm4`
`xfwm4 --replace`

open VLC from menu (different issue; I couldn't anymore from pcmanfm-qt
as menu wouldn't appear with right-click..) and VLC's PaNAP opens in
middle of other screen. See screengrab.

I rm vlc configs again; double-clicked from pcmanfm-qt & same result
(fully readable PaNAP or privacy and network access policy window)

I'll pause testing this issue, chase up the menu's not opening that I
only noticed when using xfwm4.. (killed wfwm4, replaced with openbox -
it has https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcmanfm-qt/+bug/1812342
issue too) :(

2019-12-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Lubuntu 20.04 qa-test
I tried to re-create this issue yesterday on d780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati
cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350, portrait + landscape displays) but failed

I've now re-created it on hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro
600) or box it was filed under initially.

I'll have to do more testing on another box (is it related to video
card?, I'll endeavor to test on dc7700, or d960 and try and confirm it's
hardware agnostic (I didn't use two landscape displays yesterday which
may be reason I couldn't re-create).

As users only see this dialog ONCE, I consider it so petty I've not
bothered testing for it.

I'll continue testing..

Thanks. It looks like pulseaudio is being limited by a recurring kernel

[Bug 1804341] Re: lubuntu 19.04 daily - vlc opened privacy-and-network-policy (first-run) window partially obscured by panel

2019-12-09 Thread Chris Guiver

Thanks. Unfortunately those don't have any stack traces so please wait
till the problem happens again and repeat the above steps.

[Bug 1852101] Re: Monitors keep turning on when in power saving mode, every time.

2019-12-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That sounds like a second bug which I was trying to keep separate.
Sounds like a partial success now at least, since the monitor is /more/
black if you leave the peripherals unplugged. Because it would fully
wake if you left the peripherals plugged in. Unless I have missed
something.

Back on that secondary bug, does the backlight go off in the original
case with the peripherals plugged in?
