[Bug 1858035] Re: Xorg freeze (Ubuntu 19.10 stuck on splash screen)

2020-01-02 Thread Markian Hromiak
Hey, quick question. I'm running into similar problems, but on grub
right before the splash screen. After removing your drive, did you
happen to have anything else like a charging cable or wired/wireless
mouse in your ports?

[Bug 1858181] [NEW] Xorg freeze with bluetooth mouse plugin, 19.10

2020-01-02 Thread Markian Hromiak
Public bug reported:

Release: 19.10
Xorg Version: 1:7.7_19ubuntu12

Problem:

After powering on my computer, grub's menu shows the options for
starting Ubuntu, advanced Ubuntu options, etc. If I have my bluetooth
mouse receiver plugged into the usb port, the menu freezes and a hard
reboot is necessary as I cannot move my cursor; however, this continues
only as long as the receiver is plugged in. Once it is removed and a
hard reboot is done (reboot necessary to unfreeze), the menu allows me
to select "Ubuntu" and access the OS. Plugging back in in the OS lets me
use the mouse without problem, but relapses if I restart/shut down.

Environment Details:

New HP Spectre x360, 15-inch, freshly wiped from Windows 10 Home and
installed with Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine after failing to dual-boot. My
boot order in HP's bios is by usb drive first followed by the system
boot option, the order of which does not seem to have an effect on the
problem. The mouse is a Jelly Comb 2.4GHz wireless rechargeable mouse
(not sure if important).

There is no legacy mode, and safeboot is currently disabled; however,
the parity of the option has not affected the problem. The mouse is
solely what seems to cause the issue. I plan on testing with other USB
dongles for debugging if you want more data on if it's all wireless
mice, all usb dongles or what have you.

Steps to replicate:

0 Put wireless mouse receiver in USB slot (Spectre has only 1 so test all of
them)
1 Turn on computer with ubuntu
2 Try to select any option on the grub menu. Should be frozen and unresponsive
3 Unplugging mouse should not affect frozen state
4 Restart computer with free USB slots
5 Grub should be responsive

[Bug 1858161] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 install not reading block storage properly

2020-01-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1858161/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1858165] [NEW] Could not load the program library libodbc.so or it is corrupted. The ODBC data source selection is not available.

2020-01-02 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I'm working on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS x86_64 fully patched. I have LibreOffice
Base installed. I am trying to open a MS Access database.

I open LibreOffice Base. At Step (1) I select "Connect to an existing
database". At Step (2), which is the File Open dialog, I click browse:

Could not load the program library libodbc.so or it is corrupted.
The ODBC data source selection is not available.

At this point I am browsing to the *.mdb file. No database is selected.

This is a drag. I am working with a company that specializes in fresh
water wells. I'm trying to get them to convert from Windows to Linux for
all the right reasons. Obviously they cannot convert if Linux software
cannot open the database.

[Bug 1857883] Re: system failed to suspend

2020-01-02 Thread Alex Tu
the pre-loaded Xenial OEM image works well.

So, I tried to update the kernel on Xenial OEM, to approach the environment of
Bionic.
The steps are:
 1. install latest oem kernel 5.0.0-1030-oem-osp1 , then systemctl suspend and
passed.
 2. install latest linux-firmware 1.173.14 , then systemctl suspend <= FAILD

Please refer to following attach message by "apport-collect -p linux-
firmware"

>From Bionic side,
because there's no error message during dark screen (/var/log/kern.log from
next boot), so I tried debugging it by pm_test on Bionic. Then this issue can
be reproduced by processors sleep level.

[Bug 1858161] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 install not reading block storage properly

2020-01-02 Thread Laz Peterson
Public bug reported:

We recently received Supermicro servers with Avago 3108 chipset, and 2x
Seagate 4K SAS drives in a hardware RAID1 configuration.

All other operating systems (including Ubuntu 16.04) report this virtual
drive properly.

Ubuntu 18.04 shows it as if it were using 512 byte sectors, instead of
the 4K sectors that are actually there.

Instead of having ~1TB drive, it shows as ~8TB and is unable to install
no matter what I do.

Going to shell during install and running fdisk shows all of the right
information and drive/sector sizes.

I am able to install 16.04 and then upgrade to 18.04, but that is not
ideal.

Please let me know what other information I can get, or how I can get it
for you.

[Bug 1851968] [NEW] Cannot remove Plank icon from Plank dock in 19.10

2020-01-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When using the Pantheon or Cupertino desktop layout in 19.10 MATE, it is
not possible to remove the Plank icon from within the Plank dock.

Even when you right-click on the icon and un-check the "Keep in dock"
option, the icon still remains and implies that Plank is open, which in
theory it is, but this is not needed within this dock.

You can move the icon, but you cannot remove.

[Bug 1858152] [NEW] fstrim.service no longer trims /home partition

2020-01-02 Thread Jeffery To
Public bug reported:

When I was running disco, fstrim.service would trim all of my
partitions:

Oct 21 00:00:18 computer systemd[1]: Starting Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab...
Oct 21 00:00:37 computer fstrim[9588]: /home: 25 GiB (26797150208 bytes)
trimmed on /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-home

Oct 21 00:00:37 computer systemd[1]: Started Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab.

After upgrading to eoan, my /home partition is no longer trimmed:

Oct 28 00:00:21 computer systemd[1]: Starting Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab...
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer fstrim[24667]: /boot: 781.1 MiB (819011584 bytes)
trimmed on /dev/sda5

on /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer systemd[1]: fstrim.service: Succeeded.
Oct 28 00:00:32 computer systemd[1]: Started Discard unused blocks on
filesystems from /etc/fstab.

Checking the unit file (/lib/systemd/system/fstrim.service), I noticed
there is a "ProtectHome=yes" option. Removing this option caused my
/home partition to be trimmed once again.

I believe the "ProtectSystem=strict" option may also cause partitions in
non-standard partition schemes to be skipped by fstrim.service (although
I have not tested this).

[Bug 1851188] Re: Failed to create a partition table - install failed

2020-01-02 Thread Walter Lapchynski
So looks like this is a "race condition" caused by the new kpmcore API.
It's a little hard to get it to reproduce according to upstream bug
reports, but there's some suggestions to get it to go.

Upstream developers already have a branch going to fix it and it should be
coming up in the new Calamares along with some more minor fixes:

[Bug 1858141] [NEW] "Advanced" tab is missing from Print dialog in Qt5 applications

2020-01-02 Thread Brett Keller
Public bug reported:

Please backport Qt patch 213391 to qtbase-opensource-src in Bionic:
https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/213391/

[Impact]
On Kubuntu 18.04 (bionic), any applications using Qt5 are unable to fully
configure printers from within the "Print..." dialog because the "Advanced" tab
is no longer present. Settings shown here will differ by printer, but this
includes important settings such as paper type (plain, glossy, photo, etc.),
print resolution, and ink usage strategies. Gwenview and Okular are notable
affected applications. GTK applications are unaffected and do show the
advanced options provided by the printer driver. As a workaround for Qt5
applications, the printer *default* advanced settings can be successfully
accessed and changed from within the "Printers" section of Plasma's "System
Settings", but this is cumbersome, unintuitive, and is not the intended way of
interacting with these settings on a per-print-job basis.

[Additional Information]
This was identified as a bug in Qt5 upstream:
https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-54464

The bug was fixed upstream in Qt 5.11, but Bionic is stable on Qt 5.9.
I'd like to request that this patch be backported to Bionic, please.

[Regression Potential]
OpenSUSE has already backported this patch to their Qt 5.9 stable branch, so
there is precedent for this patch being low risk:
https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/KDE:Qt:5.9/libqt5-qtbase/0010-Reintroduce-the-Advanced-tab-in-the-QPrintProperties.patch?expand=1

[Bug 1818816] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS + "lspci: Cannot open /sys/bus No such file" on Dell 5820 Tower

2020-01-02 Thread Andrew Ruthven
I'm hitting this issue on some new server hardware when trying to use
lspci from pciutils with a 16.04 installation. I'm wondering of there
has there been any progress on getting this fix released for Xenial?

[Bug 1821564] Re: b44 Ethernet driver null pointer during initialization

2020-01-02 Thread Boris Gjenero
I don't normally use Ethernet on my laptop, and for some reason the b44
module for Ethernet doesn't get loaded normally. So I didn't notice
this. But I'm getting the same problem reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1821564/comments/8
in Ubuntu 19.10 with linux-image-5.3.0-24-generic on my Inspiron 6400.
This Debian bug report has some ideas about a cause:
