[Bug 1864001] [NEW] "Save as" in chromium with unprintable characters

2020-02-19 Thread Torsten Bronger
Public bug reported:

In Chromium with the following version numbers (output of “snap list”):

chromium   80.0.3987.100   1026  stable
canonical✓   -

(Ubuntu 19.10) the “Save as” dialog box consists only of unprintable
characters, i.e., I see only small boxes instead of letters. I don’t
observe this in comparable dialogs of other programs, e.g. Inkscape.

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1863994] [NEW] do not build (or sign) grubnetx64-installer.efi in Ubuntu

2020-02-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

I just noticed that
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/uefi/grub2-amd64/current/
includes a signed artifact I wasn't familiar with,
grubnetx64-installer.efi.signed. This came in from Debian via commit
e8bc4a231a2e16c25e86b7288f6de0b5a0c9bb2f:

Add an extra di-specific version of the UEFI netboot image

Identical to the normal netboot image, but With a different baked-in
prefix value ("$vendor-installer/$ARCH/grub" instead of "/grub").

Helps to fix #928750, making d-i consistent in terms of PXE setup.

We do not need two netboot images for grub, and should definitely not be
signing two of them.

Please drop this artifact from the next grub2 upload.

I did a quick test with 7.0.33-0ubuntu0.16.04.12 and idle processes are
killed after the configured timeout!

Thanks for the regression version.

I guess you mean that if Debian hasn't updated to 6.x yet, ubuntu
shouldn't either. My 2cents: I agree.

I guess Jo means that it will not happen before Focal's release date.

Given the above, are we all in agreement to proceed with the (a) option
mentioned above?

[Bug 1863992] [NEW] 32 bit libGL missing

2020-02-19 Thread monkeybrain2012
Public bug reported:

Though the packages seem to be installed in the same location as before
/usr/lib32/nvidia-430 but the system apparently doesn't pick it up

ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-430/libGL.so.1
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-430/libGL.so

a couple of wine apps stops working complaining that libGL.so not found.

With Nvidia-418

ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so
libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-418/libGL.so.1
libGL.so.1 (libc6) => /usr/lib32/nvidia-418/libGL.so.1
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/nvidia-418/libGL.so
libGL.so (libc6) => /usr/lib32/nvidia-418/libGL.so

See with Nvidia-430 the 32 bit libGL.so is not being picked up.

[Bug 1863981] [NEW] espeak-ng cannot load mbrola language files

2020-02-19 Thread zapyon
Public bug reported:

I tried using all of the mbrola files named by espeak-ng --voices=de :

Pty Language Age/Gender VoiceName File Other
Languages
 5  de  --/M  German gmw/de
 6  de  --/F  german-mbrola-1mb/mb-de1
 6  de  --/M  german-mbrola-2mb/mb-de2
 6  de  --/F  german-mbrola-3mb/mb-de3
 6  de  --/M  german-mbrola-4mb/mb-de4
 6  de  --/M  german-mbrola-6mb/mb-de6
 7  de  --/F  german-mbrola-5mb/mb-de5
 7  de  --/F  german-mbrola-7mb/mb-de7

espeak-ng -vmb-de1 "Test"

gives me:

mbrola: FATAL ERROR : cannot find file /usr/share/mbrola/de1/de1 !
mbrowrap error: mbrola closed stderr and did not exit
Error: Could not load the specified mbrola voice file.

It does speak, though, seemingly using a default voice.

/usr/share/mbrola does not exist.

The files actually seem to reside in

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/espeak-ng-data/voices/mb

I doubt that I can solve this via a simple symbolic link because
seemingly the expected directory structure is different: all mbrola
files are in the mb directory; there are no subdirectories like /de/de1
or similar.

[Bug 1863980] [NEW] gespeaker crashes upon startup after not finding language "german"

2020-02-19 Thread zapyon
Public bug reported:

I installed gespeaker to test espeak-ng (with espeak-ng-espeak).
espeak works on the command line with the default German language.

Starting gespeaker didn't give me an application window, so I tried it
in the terminal, and got:

loading available plugins...

espeak --voices=de gives me:

 7  de  --/F  german-mbrola-5mb/mb-de5
 7  de  --/F  german-mbrola-7mb/mb-de7

Is it possible that the language selection fails because the VoiceName of
German starts with a capital 'G', but gespeaker looks for "german"?
Or does language selection have nothing to do with the crash?

After update to Ubuntu 5.0.0-1032.34-azure 5.0.21, VM is not able to
boot anymore.

Keeps stuck in logging "soft lockup - CPU#xxx stuck for xxs" with random
process (different on each startup).

Full logs below.

[Bug 1863963] Re: PC freezed up frequently after resume from sleep.

2020-02-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2020-02-19 Thread Marcelo Cerri
I also tested wireguard-dkms from eoan-proposed
(0.0.20200205-1ubuntu1~19.10.1) and it builds and works fine.

I tested it against 5.3.0-1018-raspi2 (using a raspberry pi 4) and
against 5.3.0-40-generic (using qemu). I was able to connect these two
nodes and also from the Android app.

[Bug 1743592] Re: NGINX fails to start/install/upgrade if IPv6 is completely disabled.

2020-02-19 Thread Kamilion
This change would break IPv6 support for nginx on all of my ISO spins.
It's also doubly aggravating that edits to nginx.conf drive apt up the
wall asking for 3 way merges; so I simply stopped editing nginx.conf and
moved to using nginx/conf.d for *everything* because it kept breaking
unattended-upgrades.

[Bug 1853199] Re: Ctrl + c (copy) anywhere some times crashes gnome session

2020-02-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually, comment #33 suggests the gnome-shell crash is benign:

[1203381.012425] tv gnome-shell[7509]: gnome-shell: Fatal IO error 4
(Interrupted system call) on X server :0.

So it sounds like Xorg is crashing and that's the main problem.

[Bug 1863894] Re: /etc/bash.bashrc invokes groups command which is slow in large environments

2020-02-19 Thread Sam Morris
** Description changed:

  /etc/bash.bashrc runs groups(1) whenever a new shell is started.

  This command calls getgrgid(3) on every group of which the user is a
  member.

  In an environment where FreeIPA is used to allow users to log into their
  computers using their Active Directory accounts, I have seen each call
  to getgrid(3) take over ten seconds. My Active Directory user is a
  member of 30 groups and it is not uncommon for users to be a member of
  50 or more groups. This results in enormous delays when logging in to a
  system with SSH, launching a terminal emulator or even creating a new
  tab in an existing terminal emulator.

  The code from /etc/bash.bashrc wants to find out whether the user is a
  member of the 'sudo' or 'admin' groups in order to display a hint to the
  user.

  # sudo hint
  if [ ! -e "$HOME/.sudo_as_admin_successful" ] && [ ! -e "$HOME/.hushlogin" ]
; then
- case " $(groups) " in *\ admin\ *|*\ sudo\ *)
- if [ -x /usr/bin/sudo ]; then
-   cat <<-EOF
- To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo ".
- See "man sudo_root" for details.
-
-   EOF
- fi
- esac
+ case " $(groups) " in *\ admin\ *|*\ sudo\ *)
+ if [ -x /usr/bin/sudo ]; then
+  cat <<-EOF
+  To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use "sudo ".
+  See "man sudo_root" for details.
+
+  EOF
+ fi
+ esac
  fi

  This can be rewritten to avoid calling getgrgid(3) for every group that
  the user is a member of by doing something like this (untested):

  # sudo hint
  if [[ -x /usr/bin/sudo ]]; then
- if [[ ! -e $HOME/.sudo_as_admin_successful && ! -e $HOME/.hushlogin ]];
then
- sudo_gid=$(getent group sudo | cut -d: -f3)
- admin_gid=$(getent group admin | cut -d: -f3)
- for gid in $(id -G); do
- if [[ $gid -eq $sudo_gid || $gid -eq $admin_gid ]]; then
- cat <<-EOF
- To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use
"sudo ".
- See "man sudo_root" for details.
- EOF
- break
- fi
- done
- fi
+ if [[ ! -e $HOME/.sudo_as_admin_successful && ! -e $HOME/.hushlogin ]];
then
+ sudo_gid=$(getent group sudo | cut -d: -f3)
+ admin_gid=$(getent group admin | cut -d: -f3)
+ for gid in $(id -G); do
+ if [[ $gid -eq $sudo_gid || $gid -eq $admin_gid ]]; then
+ cat <<-EOF
+ To run a command as administrator (user "root"), use
"sudo ".
+ See "man sudo_root" for details.
+ EOF
+ break
+ fi
+ done
+ fi
  fi

  As an aside: the reason that getgrid(3) is so slow is because it must
  fetch the members of each group. There is no quick way to do this in
  Active Directory: a recursive search for group members must be
  performed, followed by a lookups to retrieve each of their their POSIX
  UIDs, and then more lookup to retrieve their POSIX username.

  Even when the 'ignore_group_members' sssd(8) option is enabled, which
  causes getgrid(3) to report that a group has no members, calling
  getgrid(3) on 30-40 groups still takes a few seconds. And this option is
  not the default.

  It's also not uncommon to have groups with spaces in their names, which
  causes groups(1) to produce ambiguous output.

  For these reasons it is best to avoid the use of groups(1) in scripts
  where more performant and robust alternatives are available.

[Bug 1863968] Re: libpulse-dev cannot be installed, dependencies are outdated

2020-02-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1858164 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1858164

It seems this is a side effect of a mistake made in the release and
subsequent withdrawal of update 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5. So it's not a bug in
the code but is a problem people will encounter with Ubuntu updates...

This should automatically correct itself with the re-release of
1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5. In the meantime you can manually install whichever
set of packages you need from either:

1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4/+build/17893827

1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5:

[Bug 1835114] Re: [MIR] ec2-instance-connect

2020-02-19 Thread Seth Arnold
The hex encoded version of the key is also passed to openssl:

$ echo abcdef0123456789 | /usr/bin/od -A n -t x1 | /bin/sed ':a;N;$!ba;s/[\n
]//g'
616263646566303132333435363738390a
$ aa-decode 616263646566303132333435363738390a
Decoded: abcdef0123456789

# Sign a message with a given key
# sign [key] [msg]
sign () {
/usr/bin/printf "${2}" | /usr/bin/openssl dgst -binary -hex -sha256 -mac
HMAC -macopt hexkey:"${1}" | /bin/sed 's/.* //'
}

(See the hexkey: parameter)

This appears to come via:

AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY=$(/bin/echo "${creds}" | /bin/sed -n
's/.*"SecretAccessKey" : "\(.*\)",/\1/p')

which is from:

creds=$(/usr/bin/curl -s -f -m 1 -H "X-aws-ec2-metadata-token:
${IMDS_TOKEN}" "http://169.254.169.254/latest/meta-data/identity-
credentials/ec2/security-credentials/ec2-instance/")

and IMDS_TOKEN appears to come from:

IMDS_TOKEN="$(/usr/bin/curl -s -f -m 1 -X PUT
"http://169.254.169.254/latest/api/token; -H "X-aws-ec2-metadata-token-
ttl-seconds: 5")"

Replacing the echo binary with a shell built-in wouldn't hide this key
well.

Can any process on the system simply request such a token itself from
the aws metadata service?

What does knowledge of this key represent?

Thanks
