[Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of SD card IO and network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)
Hi mlx, >From the calltrace, it looks like the transmit doesn't work when problem happens, it is probably a problem of the driver lan78xx.c or a problem of the usb host driver. So when problem happens, does the other usb ports still work? and the latest kernel -1019 version integrated a couple of patches to lan78xx.c, you could do a test with -1019 kernel. [Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location
This bug has 3684 "heat". The next worst bug has just 614 heat. Both are almost four years old. Both are tagged as "wishlist". One and a half year ago it was (paraphrased) "this fix is easy when the epoch feature is done" and (quote) "For the record, the epoch feature is being actively worked on and it's not that far hopefully". Now (quote) "It is likely this will be picked up after 20.04 as a new cycle starts". Not certain, just likely. [Bug 305460]
The example in this bug is not as severe and frequent as the one in bug 44841. Users are more likely to encounter this issue when adding a new API to existing interface or type erasure. Calling this a "well-known issue" is irresponsible. The issue significantly increases the bar to learners to consume and accept new paradigms in the language. The issue has not been fixed for ten years. It is a shame rather than some arcane knowledge that worth to be proud of. MSVC has no such issue. The error message reads as "undefined reference to Class::that_virtual_function." Some possible fixes: 1. Adjust the error message to say, "The first non-inline, non-pure function may not have a definition in ." 2. Add extra information to name the key function, and pass it to the linker, generate an error message to match MSVC's quality. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305460 Title: [PR42540] c++ error message [vtable undefined] is unhelpful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gcc/+bug/305460/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1864112]
Actually, my problem is your lack of empathy regarding the matter. I have tried the desktop scaling at 2X and it worked very poorly compared to doubling the DPI. For example, Flameshot didn't work with the desktop scaling feature enabled, while it works great at a 192 DPI. Also, in my three 4K monitor setup, if I moved my mouse past the bottom edge of the bottom middle monitor, the whole desktop would scroll down as though that desktop had an additional 2160 pixels that shouldn't even be there. So your suggestions offer more bugs than the DPI solution I've discovered. I use to be a fan of desktop scaling, but not now. I'm a fan of increasing DPI. It works better. Try it in a multiple 4K monitors setup like mine. You'll see. The bottom line is, whether you are sympathetic or not, is that the dialog shouldn't place priority on being the exact same width of the button that's clicked. Instead it should accommodate what ever the font- size is (even if the font-size is due to a 192 DPI). I wish you had 3 or 4 4K monitors to deal with. Until then, I don't expect to persuade you much. Believe it or not, I report this stuff to help make KDE better. This is minor issue, but the developers need to take what I'm saying into consideration as they design these GUIs, instead of wasting the available horizontal space to ensure the dialog is not bigger than the button that was clicked to launch the dialog. Anyway, I doubt I've persuaded you, but thanks anyways for at least reading what I've wrote. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1864112 Title: Configure Icon Sizes Dialog is Too Small To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdelibs/+bug/1864112/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1864112]
I understand that it is frustrating, for sure. However, note that your reason for not using the official scaling system is bugginess, yet the alternative method you've chosen also has bugs (e.g. this one). Clearly these bugs are less severe than the ones you're avoiding. However it's at least important for those bugs keeping you from using the official system to be reported or else it can't improve to the point were it's adequate for your needs. If you feel the need to use a workaround in the meantime, I understand, but please file bugs on the issues that are preventing you from using the official system. Looking at the issues you mention: > Flameshot didn't work with the desktop scaling feature enabled, while it works > great at a 192 DPI. Sounds like a bug in Flameshot. Can you file it with the developer of that app? > Also, in my three 4K monitor setup, if I moved my mouse past the bottom edge > of the > bottom middle monitor, the whole desktop would scroll down as though that > desktop > had an additional 2160 pixels that shouldn't even be there. Wow, that sounds bizarre! I've never heard of this happening before. Can you file a bug if you haven't already? [Bug 1864112]
Nate, You don't have to increase the DPI in order to reproduce this issue. All that is necessary is to increase the default font-size, as I show here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxgBJaI5yRQ Hopefully, you agree that people should be able to increase the font- size of their desktop environment and that dialogs should be able to accommodate those larger font-sizes in a reasonable way. To me, ellipsifying should be a last resort way for dealing with larger font- sizes (especially given that there is not tool-tip to even reveal the entirety of what's been ellipsified). Utilizing available screen space should come before ellipsification. Yes, I'm making these words up as I go, but you know what I mean. I'll take your advise on reporting those other issues as well. However, I firmly believe that what I'm reporting here is a legitimate inflexibility, (minor and petty as it seems).

[Bug 1863116] Re: debian/rules editconfigs does not work on s390x to change s390x only configs
Let me provide some more background on this (getting some lines back from the initial bug description): On an (as of today) updated focal installation (on s390x) I needed to install the crossbuild-essential-amd64 package, but it's not installable and it seems to be the same for all "crossbuild-essential-*" packages. It's btw. the same on Eoan, too. Now, I ran into this because I want to do a kernel test compile with a modified kernel option. If one modifies a kernel option, "fakeroot debian/rules updateconfigs" needs to be called. I was told by the kernel team that at some point in time (somewhere between bionic and eoan) CROSS_COMPILE setting became needed to address architecture-dependent tests in Kconfig options. Hence cross toolchains are now required. At least amd64 is needed, I don't know yet if more is needed (but I assume it's more). Right now - as workaround - I need to do the kernel config changes on my local amd64 workstation run updateconfigs and can then proceed with build and test on the s390x target platform. But it must be possible to prepare and compile a kernel with a modified kernel option on a single target platform. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1863116 Title: debian/rules editconfigs does not work on s390x to change s390x only configs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-z-systems/+bug/1863116/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1864204] Re: nondeterministic failure when no keyring backends are available
** Description changed: [impact] when no backends are available for python-keyring, it will sometimes silently ignore all requests to set or get credentials, and sometimes it will raise RuntimeError for all requests. [test case] when there are no backends, there are 2 built-in backends that will be the only ones available, the 'chainer' backend and the 'fail' backend. The 'fail' backend always has priority 0, while the 'chainer' backend has priority 10 if it contains any actual backends, and priority 0 if it is empty. So in the situtation where there are no actual backends, both 'chainer' and 'fail' will have priority 0. Since the 'backends' class stores its backend implementation instances in a python set(), which is unordered, it is non-deterministic which of those backends are used at any given time. Since the behavior is non-deterministic, simply trying this multiple times may result in each behavior. Rebooting or logout/login can help 'switch' the behavior. >>> import keyring >>> [keyring.backend.get_all_keyring()] the above python code will show the current list of backends, and since they both have the same priority (in this situation) the first in the list will be used. If the list looks like: [[, ]] with 'ChainerBackend' first, all keyring functions will return silently with None, e.g.: >>> keyring.set_password('test', 'test', 'test') >>> keyring.get_password('test', 'test') >>> with 'fail.Keyring' first, all keyring functions will raise RuntimeError: >>> import keyring >>> [keyring.backend.get_all_keyring()] [[, ]] >>> keyring.set_password('test', 'test', 'test') Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/keyring/core.py", line 63, in set_password _keyring_backend.set_password(service_name, username, password) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/keyring/backends/fail.py", line 24, in get_password raise RuntimeError(msg) RuntimeError: No recommended backend was available. [regression potential] TBD as this is still an upstream bug [scope] This affects Eoan and later, including upstream. This does not affect Bionic or earlier, as they do not have the commit that introduces the bug. this was introduced upstream by commit 0114733e91f249246c8fec9e659cd7ba2388ea0d which was first included in version 16.1.0. [other info] this affects any application that uses the python-launchpadlib library, as that internally uses keyrings. + + Opened upstream PR to at least make the behavior deterministic: + https://github.com/jaraco/keyring/pull/424 + + Also adds new 'NoKeyringError' so callers can catch that specific error + instead of raising generic RuntimeError. ** Description changed: [impact] when no backends are available for python-keyring, it will sometimes silently ignore all requests to set or get credentials, and sometimes it will raise RuntimeError for all requests. [Bug 1864303] [NEW] Removing the e1000e module causes a crash
Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo x1 Carbon Gen5 and when it initially came out if you left the onboard NIC (e1000e) module loaded it would suck CPU/battery life so I have it removed in rc.local on boot. In 5.4 (also happens on 5.4.0.15.18 which I'm running from proposed right now), this is what happens when the module is unloaded: [ 608.979789] e1000e :00:1f.6 enp0s31f6: removed PHC [ 609.008352] [ cut here ] [ 609.008353] kernel BUG at drivers/pci/msi.c:375!
