[Bug 1864613] [NEW] xfwm4 very, very slow - leaking something?

2020-02-24 Thread Shevek
Public bug reported:

After some uptime, xfwm4 is VERY slow at something, to the point that
it's consuming 100% of CPU on a Xeon system and making the system
entirely unusable. I don't know who is leaking what, but somebody is
clearly leaking something.

I don't have debug symbols, so this is the best I can get:

[Bug 1854362] Re: [MIR] ceph-iscsi, tcmu, python-configshell-fb, python-rtslib-fb, urwid, targetcli-fb

2020-02-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
[Summary]
MIR Team conditional-Ack. Good packaging in general, but we need the steps
below to be completed before being really ready for promotion:

@rafaeldtinoco - please update targetcli-fb
 - update targetcli-fb to 2.1.51
 - fix d/watch to detect the non *fb* versions
 - as usual work with Debian to have it there as well sooner or later
 - not sure but it might even need an epoch :-/
   $ dpkg --compare-versions 2.1.fb49 lt-nl 2.1.51 => NO
   But OTOH:
UserWarning: The version specified ('2.1.fb49') is an invalid version
@rafaeldtinoco - please get Josh to subscribe to (all) these packages
 - we can drop that later, but that way we
   a) don't miss it later
   b) get a glimpse of the bug influx on these packages
@rafaeldtinoco - tests missing
Can we get some tests that will exercise targetcli-fb in this or another
package of this MIRs context?
@Rafael - once you are done with the above, please assign security to the
targetcli-fb task

@security - please put it on your review queue, but only process it once we are
at version >=2.1.51 which @rafaeldtinoco will work on first.

[Duplication]
This is "Command shell for managing the Linux LIO kernel target" we don't have
that in main yet.
TGT is no full alternative and to be replaced (tgt to be demoted) once we are
ready to promote this.

[Dependencies]
OK:
- python3-rtslib-fb and python3-configshell-fb which are part of this MIR bug
as well.
- The rest is in main already.
- No -dev/-debug/-doc packages with extra deps that would be auto-incldued that
need exclusion later on promotion

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- history of CVEs does not look concerning
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not parse data formats
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts
- does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop
- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)
=> "viewing, editing, and saving the configuration of the kernel's target
subsystem" does not have exploitable elements on their own.
The security in this particular case is needed and done on the kernel side.
I think as-is no security review would be needed.
But going to 2.1.51 (see below) will introduce targetclid which then is:

Problem:
- does run a daemon as root
- does parse data formats

I don't think any of that will be critical as it is just parts of the former CLI
portion broken out to a daemon, but e.g. exploiting the daemon could get control
of LIO controlled credentials.
Therefore looking at what we will eventually have a security review (probably
quick) is requested.

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- no translation present, but none needed for this case (admin only)?
- no new python2 dependency
- uses dh_python

Problems:
- no Team subscriber yet, server-team please subscribe
- does not have a test suite that runs at build time
- does not have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
-> could we get some basic tests when working on 2.1.51 to at least cover
and detect the most obvious issues)
It might be ok to get the tests done in one of the packages here that
would then use all the packages belonging to this "context".

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- Upstream update history is good
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far maintained
the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- not using Built-Using

Problems:
- Debian/Ubuntu update history is slow e.g. 2.1.fb49 was added ~1year after its
release
- the current release is not packaged, d/watch doesn't detect the new versions
so we miss 1.5y of updates which needs to be fixed.
  => https://github.com/open-iscsi/targetcli-fb/compare/v2.1.fb49...v2.1.51
- d/watch is present but missed non fb prefixed releases
@Rafael - I'd ask you to fix those things up

[Upstream red flags]
OK:
- no Errors/warnings during the build
- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (python)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid (needs very careful design (prefer systemd to set those for
services))
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*
- no embedded source copies
- not part of the UI for extra checks (If this is a scope for the Unity Dash,
does it honor the privacy settings?)

[Bug 1818129] Re: targetcli-fb package does not create its backup dir

2020-02-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Jochen,
I just came by looking at targetcli-fb and found that bug.
Let me update a few things to the current state.

$ dpkg -L targetcli-fb | grep back
/etc/rtslib-fb-target/backup

$ dpkg -l targetcli-fb
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name   Version  Architecture Description
+++-==---==
iU targetcli-fb 2.1.fb49-1 all Command shell for managing the
Linux LIO kernel target

That is on focal, so the issue is resolved.
The issue was resolved in targetcli-fb 2.1.43-2

Therefore Bionic still is affected, but all following versions are
fixed.

[Bug 1864606] [NEW] CPU package state stuck at PC3 with nvidia dGPU in power saving mode

2020-02-24 Thread AceLan Kao
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On a certain Dell laptop which comes with nvidia dGPU, the CPU package state
stuck at PC3 in power saving mode(uses iGPU)

[Fix]
It requires below commit(from v5.3-rc1) for runtime pm to work, and to avoid
conflict, have to introduce another refactor commit.
d4a4f927e4dd i2c: nvidia-gpu: add runtime pm support
cb7302fbe365 i2c: nvidia-gpu: refactor master_xfer

[Test]
Verified on the target laptop, it enters PC10 during long idle.

[Regression Potential]
Low, the commit simply adds runtime pm support.

This file is a necessary part of the Firefox sandbox code. If you deny
this but allow the syscalls and privileges that start the sandbox, you're
going to see some very unusual results.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu

[Bug 1854362] Re: [MIR] ceph-iscsi, tcmu, python-configshell-fb, python-rtslib-fb, urwid, targetcli-fb

2020-02-24 Thread Alex Murray
@rafaelftinoco - as the security team, we don't necessarily do a
security review for all MIRs - only those which are deemed security
relevant - and so we normally wait for the MIR team to do their review
first and then if they request a security review, then we add it to our
queue. So for now we only have urwid and tcmu on our queue. Please let
us know if there is anything else you want us to prioritise.

[Bug 1864586] [NEW] plymouth does not ask for LUKS password and does not change tty properly

2020-02-24 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Public bug reported:

I Installed focal from the daily-pending ISO image, timestamp 2020-02-21
07:52

In the installer I selected LVM + LUKS.

Upon reboot I am shown a text plymouth theme, which is an incorrect
screen size and the LUKS password prompt is missing. See attached
screenshot.

If you enter your LUKS key into the blank screen and press enter, boot
continues but gets stuck at the end. plymouth does not transition to
GDM. To get GDM to show, you need to switch to VT3 and back to VT1 with
ctrl-alt-f3 and ctrl-alt-f1. GDM will then show and allow the user to
log in.

I did some research, and it seems on focal, the default plymouth theme
is bgrt, and is a part of the plymouth-theme-spinner package:

$ sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth
[sudo] password for ubuntu:
There are 2 choices for the alternative default.plymouth (providing
/usr/share/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth).

  SelectionPath
Priority Status

* 0/usr/share/plymouth/themes/bgrt/bgrt.plymouth
110 auto mode
  1/usr/share/plymouth/themes/bgrt/bgrt.plymouth
110 manual mode
  2/usr/share/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu-logo.plymouth
100 manual mode
$ sudo apt-file search /usr/share/plymouth/themes/bgrt/bgrt.plymouth
plymouth-theme-spinner: /usr/share/plymouth/themes/bgrt/bgrt.plymouth

plymouth-theme-spinner is not installed on eoan, and ubuntu-logo is the
only theme installed on eoan.

I attempted to remove plymouth-theme-spinner and change the plymouth
theme to ubuntu-logo, and it sort of works. plymouth can now change to
GDM without having to swap VTs, but the screen is totally blank and
there is no LUKS password prompt.

All of this is reproducible on a focal installed to KVM.

[Bug 1864301] Re: Resizing LibreOffice style window causes Gnome-Shell to freeze for 10 seconds

2020-02-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

When you have time please either test a 20.04 ISO or uninstall all of
these extensions:

'topic...@phocean.net',
'apps-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',
'places-m...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com'

Since so many bugs are caused by extensions we need them to be removed
from the equation as a first step. Just disabling extensions is not
enough.

[Bug 1839271] Re: [MIR] zsys

2020-02-24 Thread Steve Beattie
I reviewed zsys 0.3.3 as checked into focal. This shouldn't be
considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.
Unfortunately, the Ubuntu Security Team's tools are not well-developed
when it comes to auditing golang projects, complicating the audit.

zsys is a tool enhancing ZFS on linux, making it possible to
run multiple ZFS setups on the same host. It has a client/server
architecture, using grpc/protobuf over a unix domain socket to
communicate. Policykit is used to mediate access to the server
functions.

- No CVE History
- Build-Depends: golang, zfs, grub, and dbus
- No pre/post inst/rm scripts.
- There are three systemd units:
  - zsys-commit: for marking zsys boot as successful
  - zsysd.socket/zsysd.service: service to start/run zsysd
- No dbus services
- No setuid binaries
- binaries in PATH?
  - zsysctl, zsysd
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- Polkit rules:
  - requires admin privs for most operations, user level stuff and
querying does not
- Has a good amount of unit tests, autopkgtests
- No cron jobs.
- No warnings/errors in buildlog
- Most processes spawned are during build time; run time uses are to run
update-grub, and via vendored dbus code (used by the polkit bits) to
start a dbus session bus. Go intentionally does not invoke system
  shells to interpret commands.
- Limited File IO, appears to be safe.
- Logging is okay.
- Environment variable use is okay.
- Use of privileged functions?
- Only Use of cryptography / random number sources appears to be sha1
  for use in polkit/dbus communication.
- Safe Use of temp files.
- Networking code is okay.
- zsysd uses polkit to authenticate clients communicating with the
  daemon. Use looks okay.

Additionally, the gosec tool (https://github.com/securego/gosec)
was used to look for issues. It found nothing of significance for
zsys itself (a few unhandled errors). For the vendored code, the
vast majority of things it found were unsafe.* calls that ought to
be audited, and unhandled errors.

While the zsys implementation is reasonably sized, there is
unfortunately a fair amount of vendored code in the tree, including
subsets of dbus and systemd modules.

Security team ACK for promoting zsys to main.

[Bug 1862081] Re: Gnome resizes framebuffer when playing fullscreen video over and over again (when using X11 fractional scaling)

2020-02-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like fixing this bug is the least difficult issue. It also
sounds like you should subscribe to bug 1825625.

Your suggestion of a workaround for this bug is not necessary because
with the same amount of effort we could just write a patch to disable
fullscreen unredirect during fractional scaling, to work around this
bug. Or fix it properly somehow.

[Bug 1815991] Re: [MIR] masakari and masakari-monitors

2020-02-24 Thread Alex Murray
I reviewed masakari-monitors 9.0.0~b1~git2019121714.b717be1-0ubuntu1 as
checked into focal. This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a
quick gauge of maintainability.

masakari-monitors provides various binary packages containing separate
monitor instances for masakari-engine - these allow to monitor hosts /
processes etc and integrate with the masakari API to provide high
availability of instances in OpenStack.

- No CVE History
- No security relevant Build-Depends
- pre/post inst/rm scripts
  - Like other openstack packages, various auto-generated versions - these
all look fine
  - masakari-monitors-common provides postinst to create the
masakarimonitors group and user and chown/chmod various
files/directories as appropriate
- There doesn't appear to be an equivalent prerm - should there be?
- init scripts
  - Like masakari, uses the openstack packaging helpers to auto-generate
init scripts for each monitor daemon - these look fine
- systemd units
  - Like masakari, these wrap the init scripts generated above
- No dbus services
- No setuid binaries
- python3-masakari-monitors provides the following binaries in PATH (one
  for each monitor):
  - /usr/bin/masakari-hostmonitor
  - /usr/bin/masakari-instancemonitor
  - /usr/bin/masakari-introspectiveinstancemonitor
  - /usr/bin/masakari-processmonitor
- sudo fragment in maskari-monitors-common to allow the masakarimonitors
user to execute as root the privsep-helper binary (provided by oslo) as
  needed
- No polkit files
- No udev rules
- unit tests / autopkgtests
  - Like masakari, simple smoketest as autopkgtest to ensure daemons start
/ run
  - unit tests run during build
- No cron jobs
- Build logs are pretty clean
  - Like masakari lintian complains of systemd unit wrapping init script
and too other minor issues

- Processes spawned
  - The process monitor uses ps to monitor for processes - this
looks safe and doesn't appear to allow command-injection
- Memory management is python
- File IO
  - The process monitor loads YAML directly from
/etc/masakarimonitors/process_list.yaml which is owned by root, group
masakarimonitors so this should be fine as this is trusted
- Logging looks clean
- No obvious environment variable usage
- No obvious use of privileged functions
- No use of cryptography / random number sources etc
- No use of temp files
- No obvious direct use of networking
- No use of WebKit
- No use of PolicyKit
  - Instead uses oslo for privilege separation

- No significant static analysis (coverity/bandit)

Security team ACK for promoting masakari-monitors to main.

[Bug 1863669] Re: update to docker 19.03.6 and runc 1.0.0-rc10

2020-02-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted runc into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/runc/1.0.0~rc10-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

The offending commit appears to be:

Which isn't surprising (it's both ptrace and apparmor related). Note however
that I did not encounter the log-flooding that was seen in the ADT testing. The
only symptom I encountered was an almost-immediate hard kernel lockup. Nothing
seen in the logs.

[Bug 1815991] Re: [MIR] masakari and masakari-monitors

2020-02-24 Thread Alex Murray
I reviewed masakari 9.0.0~b2~git2020020609.8b122a8-0ubuntu2 as checked into
focal. This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge
of maintainability.

masakari is a OpenStack component providing a high availability service for
instances - this allows KVM-based virtual machine instances to be restarted
automatically in the event of failure.

- No CVE History
- No particularly security relevant Build-Depends
  - apache2-dev, debhelper, dh-apache2, dh-python, openstack-pkg-tools,
python3-all, python3-setuptools, python3-sphinx,
- pre/post inst/rm scripts
  - A bunch of automatically added scripts (from dh_apache2, dh_python3,
dh_systemd_enable, dh_installinit) to setup apache site config etc for
the API endpoint, compile python code and setup systemd units /
initscript appropriately
  - postinst to add masakari group and user and ensure directories and
databases etc are owned by the masakari user/group
- NOTE: there appears to be a typo in the postinst script which uses
  chmod instead of chown:
  - chmod masakari:masakari /var/lib/masakari/masakari.sqlite
- ^ should this be chown instead?
- init scripts
  - Simple init script to declare the masakari-engine and then uses
openstack-pkg-tools to automatically generate the rest
- systemd units
  - Simple service to call out to the init script to start directly but
managed by systemd as a service
- No dbus services
- No setuid binaries
- python3-masakari provides the following binaries in PATH
  - /usr/bin/masakari-api
  - /usr/bin/masakari-engine
  - /usr/bin/masakari-manage
  - /usr/bin/masakari-status
  - /usr/bin/masakari-wsgi
- No sudo fragments
- No polkit files
- No udev rules
- unit tests / autopkgtests
  - autopkgtest is a smoke-test ensures all daemons appear to start
correctly
  - unit tests are run during build
- No cron jobs
- Build logs:
  - A few unit test failures during the build
  - lintian complains about recursive chown in postinst and systemd service
wrapping init script (plus binaries without man-pages and an embedded
copy of jquery/bootstrap etc) but these are not major issues

- No processes spawned
- Memory management is python
- No notable File IO
- Logging is clean
- No environment variable usage (other than in unit tests)
- No use of privileged functions
- No use of cryptography / random number sources etc
- No use of temp files (other than in unit tests)
- Network handling looks pretty safe
- No use of WebKit
- No use of PolicyKit

- No significant static analysis results from coverity / bandit

Other than the chmod/chown typo in the postinst masakari looks pretty good
and maintainable - Security team ACK for promoting masakari to main once
the postinst typo is investigated/fixed.

[Bug 1863669] Re: update to docker 19.03.6 and runc 1.0.0-rc10

2020-02-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Michael, or anyone else affected,

Accepted runc into eoan-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/runc/1.0.0~rc10-0ubuntu1~19.10.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-eoan to verification-done-eoan. If it does not fix
the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag
to verification-failed-eoan. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1834875] Re: cloud-init growpart race with udev

2020-02-24 Thread Scott Moser
The fix is in cloud-utils upstream now.
Still to do:
 a.) review/merge cloud-initramfs-tools pull request

https://code.launchpad.net/~raharper/cloud-utils/+git/cloud-utils/+merge/379177
 b.) upload cloud-initramfs-tools to focal
 c.) upload cloud-utils to focal
 d.) any SRU

the order of 'b' and 'c' are not *terribly* important, because I do not
think that there are many users of 'growroot' at this point. That
said... the change to cloud-utils *does* break cloud-initramfs-tools so
they should be done in that order.

I personally do not really want to babysit these getting in. Can
someone else sign up for that?

[Bug 1864577] [NEW] Ubuntu logo is not displayed in the 'About' Pane

2020-02-24 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Public bug reported:

On Focal, if you go to the 'About' pane in gnome-control-center, a large
GNOME icon is displayed. On previous releases, usually an Ubuntu logo is
displayed instead.

Is this change intentional? Or did upstream GNOME change a file name or
something?

Attached is a screenshot.

[Bug 1863532] Re: Invoking "python" brings inappropriate response from command-not-found when python3 installed

2020-02-24 Thread Neil McPhail
Indeed. It offers python3 version 3.7.5-1ubuntu1 as a solution which is
not appropriate as python3 version 3.8.0-3 is already installed and does
not provide a `python` command.

The python-is-python3 solution sounds like a sensible way forward. There
be dragons, I suspect.

[Bug 1860055] Re: codec can't decode byte 0xff in position 0: invalid start byte

2020-02-24 Thread Guillaume Pothier
Same here, also with a NUC. It seems the DMI information is incorrect:
gpothier@nuc-reuniones:~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/sys_vendor

gpothier@nuc-reuniones:~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/chassis_vendor

gpothier@nuc-reuniones:~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name

gpothier@nuc-reuniones:~$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/bios_vendor
Intel Corporation

However, the failure to decode DMI information is not properly reported I
think, as at a timeout error is the output of the command.

[Bug 1864567] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 lvm with encryption hang on reboot

2020-02-24 Thread Mark Richards
Public bug reported:

I've installed 20.04 with lvm and encryption. When rebooting, the dell latitude

off and back on to boot back into the system.
This issue does not occur when installing ext4 with no encryption.
I've attached my boot.log file if this helps. Happy to provide more information

The asciicinema stuff has disappeared but I presume this is the output:

Command 'python' not found, but can be installed with:

sudo apt install python3 # version 3.7.5-1ubuntu1, or
sudo apt install python # version 2.7.17-1
sudo apt install python-minimal # version 2.7.17-1

You also have python3 installed, you can run 'python3' instead.

[Bug 1864252] Re: preseeded snap installs fail in images

2020-02-24 Thread Robert C Jennings
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Images built with pre-seeded snaps contain insufficient assertion data
  causing boot to fail.

The snaps for seeding are downloaded with a custom snap tool for an
earlier cohort API (now deprecated). The assertions that it pulls are
incomplete. We could update that list and move to the new API but at
this time the snap-tool provides no value compared to use of the snap
CLI (cohort support has moved to the cli as well). The development
overhead of maintaining snap-tool in livecd-rootfs are not warranted.

This patch removes the bespoke snap-tool and relies on the snap CLI
  instead.

  [Test Case]

   * Produce images that include preseeded snaps (in
  /var/lib/snapd/seed/*)

   * Boot the resulting image and ensure that the snapd.seeded unit is
successful and the snaps (from the correct channels) show up in 'snap
  list'

  [Regression Potential]

   * The interface for these two tools is consistent and the output should
be the same. There's always a chance that snap-tool had quirks which a
move to the snap CLI uncovers, where the result would be different snaps
seeded from before the change. An example would be channel differences
before and after this change. I haven't seen issues in my testing and I
do think it's unlikely, mostly I'm suspicious of SRUs that don't list
  any regression potentials.

  [Other Info]

- * The attached MP for Xenial is simpler as it never had snap-tool. The
- Xenial MP is a minor change to give us parity between releases for use
- of the snap cohort key during download.
+ * The snap-tool that is being removed is used only in livecd-rootfs through
live-build/functions. The replacement with the upstream snap cli is
equivalent the 'info' and 'download' commands that are used. The snap-tool
code is using deprecated APIs which do not provide the data needed for
pre-seeding.
+ * The attached MP for Xenial is simpler as it never had snap-tool. The
Xenial MP is a minor change to give us parity between releases for use of the
snap cohort key during download.

[Bug 1864562] [NEW] For GDK_HYPER_MASK, gtk_im_context_filter_keypress() falsely reports that IM handled the event

2020-02-24 Thread Bjorn Hassler
Public bug reported:

If the keypress event contains GDK_HYPER_MASK as a modifier,
gtk_im_context_filter_keypress() returns true, reporting that the IM
handled the event, even though it did not, therefore it should return
false.

Background: We are working on modifying Gnome-Terminal / libvte-2.91.so.0 to
enable Terminal-bespoke remapping of modifier keys. This is to facilitate OS X
users to migrate to Ubuntu. (Discussion here: #220. Background and unsuccessful
alternative approaches detailed here:
https://github.com/bjohas/Ubuntu-keyboard-map-like-OS-X/blob/master/README.md).
When we replace GDK_CONTROL_MASK by GDK_HYPER_MASK, the input method (ibus)
reports that it handled the event that had Hyper as the modifier. When we use
export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim, the Hyper modifier is passed as expected.

We believe that this is a bug in ibus XOR gtk. Unfortunately I'm not
sure whether this is an issue in ibus or gtk, so I'm reporting it in
both places (as well as upstream). Apologies for the inconvenience
caused by this. Many thanks for looking at this.

I'll track updates here
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/issues/220
and here
https://github.com/bjohas/Ubuntu-keyboard-map-like-OS-X/blob/master/Building%20a%20Gnome-Hyper-Terminal.md
so that people compinging Gnonme Terminal are aware of the status.

Many thanks!

advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)

[Bug 1864561] [NEW] For GDK_HYPER_MASK, gtk_im_context_filter_keypress() falsely reports that IM handled the event

2020-02-24 Thread Bjorn Hassler
Public bug reported:

If the keypress event contains GDK_HYPER_MASK as a modifier,
gtk_im_context_filter_keypress() returns true, reporting that the IM
handled the event, even though it did not, therefore it should return
false.

Background: We are working on modifying Gnome-Terminal / libvte-2.91.so.0 to
enable Terminal-bespoke remapping of modifier keys. This is to facilitate OS X
users to migrate to Ubuntu. (Discussion here: #220. Background and unsuccessful
alternative approaches detailed here:
https://github.com/bjohas/Ubuntu-keyboard-map-like-OS-X/blob/master/README.md).
When we replace GDK_CONTROL_MASK by GDK_HYPER_MASK, the input method (ibus)
reports that it handled the event that had Hyper as the modifier. When we use
export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim, the Hyper modifier is passed as expected.

We believe that this is a bug in ibus XOR gtk. Unfortunately I'm not
sure whether this is an issue in ibus or gtk, so I'm reporting it in
both places (as well as upstream). Apologies for the inconvenience
caused by this. Many thanks for looking at this.

I'll track updates here
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/issues/220
and here
https://github.com/bjohas/Ubuntu-keyboard-map-like-OS-X/blob/master/Building%20a%20Gnome-Hyper-Terminal.md
so that people compinging Gnonme Terminal are aware of the status.

Many thanks!

Is it known that mathjax is strictly needed? The mathjax webpage says:
"Beautiful math in all browsers"
which lines up with my expectation that it's a documentation tool.

How is openssh using mathjax? Perhaps we can leave this in universe on the
"it doesn't affect runtime" rule.

Thanks
