Ran into this myself.
Here's my wajig history. Normally I run 'dailyupgrade' when I have a
chance to get this build VM updated, and then rebuild my ISOs with it
after a reboot, on a matching kernel so the
I tested the kernels. Unfortunately none of them seemed to correct the
issue, 4.18-13 was a few seconds faster loading but not by much.
I updated the kernel at the same time as the software so its possible this
is related to one of the packages being updated.
I reverted back to my previous kernel
I do weekly backup for my VMs, so I first update/upgrade all VMs before the
backup. The first two systems passed without problems (Host OS Ubuntu 20.04 on
ZFS and Xubuntu 20.04 VM on ext4). The next two failed a few minutes later
(Ubuntu 20.04 VM and Ubuntu Mate 20.04 VM). I restored the zfs

The issue I found is that the walinuxagent Extension installs the 16.04
cuda drivers on Ubuntu 18.04. The issue here is the driver has changed a
bit with the inclusion of libglx-mesa0 in Ubuntu 18.04, where it was not
previously in 16.04.
This causes the failure to install nvidia-driver-*
There is nothing wrong with my keyboard layout. Typing sudo -s
without touching the keyboard for any additional input, gives those
password error messages, as explaned in the original report.
Like I said my system is working again due to snapshots, I will wait
for a new corrected update.

I've attached the requested fresh dmesg.txt.
I'll be reverting the kernel to see if anything improves and will post
back with the details.
As a side note, and its probably not related, I'm also seeing sporadic
temporary lockups which seem to correspond with the CE: hpet3 warning in
dmesg but
I found out that a workaround is to remove
~/snap/chromium/common/.cache/fontconfig before starting Chromium.

Today the update of almost all Ubuntu 20.04 systems failed. Afterwards
the system can't be rebooted and even the recovery mode does not work.
This is one of the symptons and I even did not touch the keyboard.
