[Bug 1870876] [NEW] docker stopped when containerd updated

2020-04-04 Thread Stephen Buergler
Public bug reported:

When containerd was updated in my bionic instance it stopped docker then
stopped containerd. When it was done updating containerd it brought it
back online. docker stayed stopped.

2020-04-03 06:20:32,973 INFO Packages that will be upgraded: apport
containerd python3-apport python3-problem-report

An eoan installation that didn't have this problem had this line:
2020-04-03 06:06:01,612 INFO Packages that will be upgraded: apport
python3-apport python3-problem-report

So the main difference is that containerd was updated.

At the end of this systemctl --all reported docker as:
docker.service loadedinactive dead
and containerd as:
containerd.service loadedactive running

2020-04-04 Thread Caleb McKay
Thanks Tim, but as I was just testing I simply reverted to a previous
snapshot. I was just reporting because there are a lot of us who like
Ubuntu but find the default color scheme...less than optimal. I can live
with a lot of things, but not a bright purple screen blasting my eyes
when I try to log in before I have had my coffee. My main concern was
just that it was broken. I think the plymouth boot logo frankly should
just be deprecated at this point. I am just really hoping there is still
an easy way to revert gdm3 to a vanilla color scheme.

[Bug 1753070] Re: Cannot restore default alert sound (Ubuntu bell)

2020-04-04 Thread padmahas
Hello @Sebastein,

I installed day before yesterday's nightly build, of Ubuntu Focal Fossa
(development branch).
The issue which @Lucas Czepaniki (lucas.czpnk) mentioned at comment number 6
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1753070/comments/6),
still is there in that build. The issue is,

Whichever the notification sound we choose after default, only that
sound will take effect. Directly changing to another type of alert sound
will not take effect. To reproduce the problem,

1. Open terminal,
2. Open sound settings, initially it will be "default". Change that to some
other alert sound, say, "Drip".
3. Switch to terminal and press backspace, you will hear "Drip".
4. Switch to sound settings, this time select "Glass".
5. Switch to terminal and press backspace, here is the issue. You will not hear
"Glass". You will still hear "Drip".
6. Switch to sound settings, now select default first and then select "Glass".
7. Switch to terminal and press backspace, now you will hear "Glass".

So to summarize, if you want to change the alert sound, first you have to
switch back to "Default" and then only whichever other alert sound you select,
will take effect.
Since the release time is near, I thought it would be helpful to fix this
before release.

Thank you.

[Bug 1870865] [NEW] Firefox background update 74.0 to 74.0.1 prevents using any active tab

2020-04-04 Thread Andrew
Public bug reported:

I opened several new tabs via context menu, then when switching to one
of those new tabs was presented with the "Firefox must be restarted to
continue" type message when an update had been applied in the
background. On attempt to switch back to an already active tab in order
to securely close existing site sessions, form submissions, etc. before
restarting Firefox, I found that I was unable to use existing tabs.

Problem presented as the newly opened tab was not rendering any page
(completely white). Clicking any existing tab would not switch from the
newly opened tab. Clicking on "help - troubleshooting information" and
"help - submit feedback" opened those tabs in the background but alas
was not able to switch to those tabs to view them.

I think this is a bug and user should be able to continue to use
existing tabs to complete their existing sessions when a Firefox
background update has been applied.

Re: [Bug 1252255] Re: The 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target/. Without the GRUB boot loader, the installed system will not boot.

2020-04-04 Thread Shayan S
Hi Dear Randall,

I suggest you to check if you have dual graphics on your system or not. If
yes, do not waist your time, cause I had the same issue. I tried many many
times and even sometimes when I successfully installed it, the issue raised
again, once rebooting the system. After 1 month struggling I ended up
installing Ubuntu on another system.

Regards,
Shayan

[Bug 1868189] Re: Low memory situations result in root partition being remounted read-only

2020-04-04 Thread Avamander
** Description changed:

Instead of killing something with a high niceness low memory situations
seem to hang something super-ultra-so-very vital, writes fail and the
root partition is remounted read-only. After that systemd-journald
starts stupidly spamming and earlier logs are rendered unusable.

I'd post more logs but https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/2339
  hasn't been fixed in years.

This has happened at least four times, across many kernel versions. With
  Ubuntu 18.10, 19.04 and 19.10.

[Bug 1616650] Re: snap refresh while command is running may cause issues

2020-04-04 Thread Avamander
Enabled the "refresh-app-awareness", still, without warning Chromium
suddenly stops recording history, keeping state and sessions. Incredibly
annoying and causes unavoidable data loss.

It's is frankly inane to roll out new snaps when it has been known for
FOUR. YEARS. that there's a major bug that causes data loss.

Hi there, I was going to report my error, but this resembles my bug closely

The solver fills up /var/log/messages insanely quickly, causes 100% cpu and
fills up hd space.

Disabling prevents this issue

[Bug 1870856] [NEW] Changing Icons does not automatically change on desktop

2020-04-04 Thread Joshua Peisach
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Desktop:

Please note first that I had cinnamon-remix installed-I was bored so I
installed Ubuntu and Ubuntu Budgie desktops, along with gnome-tweaks and
gnome-shell.

I was changing the icons using GNOME Tweak Tool. In nautilus, the
changes automatically would apply. However, for the desktop, the changes
would NOT automatically apply. I had to re-login to see the changes.

If possible, I hope you guys can install a fresh Ubuntu and confirm
this. Theme used was Kimmo-Dark from Ubuntu Cinnamon, and I found this
issue for pretty much all the themes.

[Bug 1192028] Re: Compiz refresh rate resets to 50 Hz automatically w/ Nvidia proprietary driver

2020-04-04 Thread anden
Was still being affected by this under Lubuntu 18.04, so I ended up
throwing together a small bash script that works around the issue.
Hopefully someone else can find it useful, it is best run automatically
at login, and waits until compiz has launched before it does its thing.

Maybe not the cleanest solution, but considering how long people have
been having this issue, I figured why wait any longer...

Please see the included comments in the code, or at least keep in mind
that it needs compiz to be configured to use the "flat file" config
type, in order to work.

[Bug 1870854] [NEW] Total graphical freeze after hibernation with nvidia-driver-440

2020-04-04 Thread Matheus
Public bug reported:

This problem happens after all hibernation, not instantly after wake up but
after a bit of usage, generally when triggering some animation of the DE. My
laptop is a inspiron 7000, with a gtx 1050ti, intel i7 7000, ubuntu 18.04.4
LTS.

I would be happy if anyone could tell me of any workaround too because
after freezing killall -9 Xorg doesn't do much and any other attempt to
restart Xorg. During this freeze switching tty also doesn't work. Audio,
network ( i could ssh to the machine), everything else is still running.

[Bug 1870850] [NEW] Multi-line paste broken between kitty ~0.15 and nano 8.4 [focal]

2020-04-04 Thread Ryan Finnie via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 Focal beta (as of 2020-04-04)
nano 4.8-1

What I expect to happen: multi-line paste into nano via kitty pastes
multiple lines.

What happens instead: pasted multi-line text is one line with no line
breaks.

There is a bit of a spat between the developers of kitty (gnome-
terminal:kitty::screen:tmux, basically) and nano about how to do multi-
line pasting. See e.g.:

* https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?58010
* https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/nano-devel/2020-03/msg5.html
* https://github.com/kovidgoyal/kitty/issues/994

Without taking sides, the facts are:

* With the current versions in focal (kitty 0.15.0 and nano 4.8), pasting
multi-line will result in newlines being eaten.
* nano 4.9 introduces a fix (commit 481529e8650d105c3280def764e4917af0cabb49)
which brings the newline handling more in line with other terminal-aware
programs (treating raw \n as line break).

Peripherally, nano 4.8 introduced new bracketed paste mode support.
This makes a read of the kitty github issue above harder, since the
issue being reported here is about an incompatibility in bracketed paste
mode between kitty and nano, not pre-bracketed ^J handling.

[Bug 1870848] [NEW] Show Applications blanks bottom 2/3 of bottom screen

When I connect an external monitor (HDMI), and arrange it above the laptop

[Bug 1585332] Re: Graphical snaps don't honour the desktop theme

2020-04-04 Thread Kanehekili
snap is a another way to hurt the linux desktop experience. It is a shame
watching developers rendering linux unusable/ugly again. I've spend some time
creating new themes (noting that its documentation is very bad)just to see that
it will not be honored by snap packages. Sorry not to be constructive, but this
flaw has been known for about 4 years and nobody seems to care.
It is hard to explain an former windows user why some of his apps look
different (i.e you can see if it is a snap or deb package) from others.

[Bug 1870845] [NEW] Boot diagnostic: Initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed

2020-04-04 Thread David Coe
Public bug reported:

AMD 2400G dual-booting Eoan and Focal (beta) gives both unpacking and
IOMMU diagnostics. Earlier CPUs (eg AMD FX-8350) only show the initramfs
unpacking failure. Neither failure appears fatal!

Booting Eoan, boot screen diagnostic ...

[0.369879] pci :00:00.2: can't derive routing for PCI INT A
[0.369880] pci :00:00.2: PCI INT A: not connected

There is a lot of comment (and inconclusive workarounds) in
 on the
unpacking issue. The diagnostic can be removed by changing lz4 to gzip
in /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf and rerunning update-initramfs
-u.

I can't find guidance on the IOMMU problem - it's just concealed by grub
configured not to take over the fbcon console and (presumably) affects
the VGA port.

Both may require upstream attention (with the kernel) rather than with
with the grub code or configuration. Could you route as appropriate? My
thanks!

[Bug 1858231] Re: QCA6174 Wifi adapter not functional

2020-04-04 Thread dave
I think I've established that this bug was introduced in the 5.3 mainline
kernel, and affects the 19.10 kernel as well. Here's an email to LKML about
this issue:
https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/8/16/625

The bug author worked around this bug by moving the 5.5-rc6 kernel. I'm
probably going to have to do the same, but would of course prefer a fix
to the 19.10 5.3 kernel if possible.
