i am also seeing this same issue on Mint 19.2 Tina on a dell XPS13.
only after a recent (today) apt update.

i can ssh in and tail the kern.log and watch it happen, same kind of
sporadic usage, like switching between slack-desktop and chrome etc.

Oh come to think of it, there is a commonality between Firefox, VLC and
Chrome. That is they all try to follow the system theme but all three
are NOT GTK apps. They each use different toolkits. So I fear this is

The key thing I've noticed here is that if I grab the device via libusb
and capture data, then it's on  interface 0x83, and the bytes are a

This almost works.. it fails for me when i have a large number of files
to backup, and works fine when there's just a few. The number of files
is not consistent though, with ~2000 files it sometimes works and
sometimes doesn't.

I'm using a swift-based provider and swift itself can upload the files
using a proxy fine and very quickly. Is there a way we can just dump the
duplicity backups locally after reading them from the server and upload
them manually?

Curiously the the failure message is an SSL mismatch one from the
requests library. Looking at the packet dump when it works duplicity
uses TLS 1.2 the whole time. When it fails a "Encypted Alert" packet
arrives.

Without changing the verbosity it hangs while uploading the diff tars,
with the output: `Attempt 1 failed. ConnectionError: None`


And running duplicity with the `--verbosity d` argument gives me the 
accompanying:

Hi, please try to edit grub boot param and add "initcall_debug
earlyprintk=efi debug ignore_loglevel", also insert "set debug=all" to
the beginning of that grub linux entry. Booting with this entry could be
slower than usual but gives some more trace of early boot status. You
may have to film that to share the results.

Setting the icon theme in Appearance->Customize to an icon theme that is
corrupt/unrecognized causes panels to crash/restart/crash and other
instability. New sessions spawn without any components other than the
desktop background. I've tried this with two icon themes so far, Tela-
Dark and McMuse icons. The broken icon themes seem to be indicated by a
question mark icon in the Appearance settings as indicated in the
screenshot I'm attaching.

If the legacy d-i netboot images are not going to be published/supported 
20.04.1 onwards, do we have an equivalent replacement that's able to perform 
the same function?

The mini.iso allows me to boot my 384 Mb ram VPS without a cd-rom drive
into the installation environment by just loading the kernel/initrd from
grub and complete a minimal setup by downloading only the necessary
components from the internet. It also allows me to keep my existing disk
layout (LVM volumes hosted in an encrypted luks partition) and install
over it.

Are we expecting the new netboot/subiquity setup to be able to do this
by the 20.04.1 release? Or are we just going to drop the legacy
installer that works well to address these use cases in favor of
something that must download and load a 1 Gb ISO image in RAM to work?
What about the ability to install over existing LVM volumes within an
encrypted partition? Is that planned to be incorporated before d-i is
dropped completely?

In this script there is the function call:
add_mountroot_fail_hook "20-lvm2"

Which is defined in /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/functions

In focal's 0.136ubuntu6 , this is defined as:

add_mountroot_fail_hook()

mkdir -p /tmp/mountroot-fail-hooks.d
ln -s "$0" /tmp/mountroot-fail-hooks.d/"$0"
}

The final line of the function will execute as
ln -s "/scripts/lvm2" /tmp/mountroot-fail-hooks.d/"/scripts/lvm2"

And fail, because directory /tmp/mountroot-fail-hooks.d/scripts does not
exist.

It is clear from lvm2's invocation that it expects the symlink to be
named "20-lvm2" , and if we look at bionic's 0.130ubuntu3.6 that is the
case:

pyside2-uic - Python User Interface Compiler for PySide2
pyside2-lupdate - update Qt Linguist translation files for PySide2

It is also in the package information, as it is shown:

pyside2-tools/focal,now 5.14.0-1~exp1ubuntu5 amd64 [installed]
  development tools for PySide2 (uic, rcc, lupdate)


However, only pyside2-lupdate is being installed.

Both pyside2-rcc and pyside2-uic are missing.

They are important for softwares like Freecad.

To reproduce open a new presentation in libreoffice impress on Lubuntu
20.04. Then in the menu open Format --> Character then for liberation
sans the default font has the letters all overlapping in the font
preview.

I expected the letters in the font preview to not be overlapping.
Instead the letters all appear overlapping in the preview but do not
appear that way in the main window of libreoffice impress.

Ok, removing the packages works too. One thing that will happen is that
if you open Language Support, it will prompt you to install those
packages (which you can choose not to, of course). OTOH, I suppose you
don't have a reason to open Language Support very often.

i've just begun seeing this in debian 5.5.0-2 (linux 5.5.17-1) and
5.5.0-1 (5.5.13-1)

pulseaudio -k fixes it for a while, and all i see that's relevant in the
logs/dmesg is

snd_hda_codec_hdmi hdaudioC0D0: HDMI: invalid ELD data byte 0

booting back into 5.4.0-4 (5.4.19-1) and i have no problem.

This has been happening perhaps 3 times every 7 days, no obvious cause I
can see.   The system is a virtual machine that's just a router.  No
user activity, nobody logged in to the mate gui.  Wish I had more to
offer by way of a clue but that's it.

For those like me for whom these are all magical incantations, here's my
sequence aggregated from advice above:

Press the Ubuntu/Super key and type "Software" and pick the one that is
called "Software & Updates". On the first tab, make sure "source code"
is checked. Then, open a terminal and paste the following (line by line
up to the apt line, then the rest can go together):

Currently the Nvidia driver packages break the autologin feature of gdm3
whenever the 'splash' option is present on GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in
/etc/config/grub.

This breakage can be avoided by removing 'splash' from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in  /etc/config/grub, regenerating
/boot/grub/grub.cfg with 'sudo update-grub' and then regenerating the
initrd.img files such that the Nvidia drivers aren't loaded prior to
gdm3.

The nvidia-340 package should be modified to prune 'splash' from
/etc/config/grub and regenerate /boot/grub/grub.cfg prior to building
the Nvidia kernel modules.

This happened to me too after I resized an ext4 image file from 50G to
99G.  Ever since then when I mount it I get the same error except
starting a higher sector.  If I unmount it and mount it again I get
errors for different sectors.  And `e2fsck -f` didn't find any error on
the image.

I am not sure this is correct so I added my comment into 1864188.

To increase chances that somebody sees it, the comment says that, on my
system, the iwlwifi driver shipped with the standard bionic kernel
5.3.0-46 seems to be loading the wrong firmware blob. It loads "iwlwifi-
Qu-b0-jf-b0-48.ucode" which crashes quickly, as seen in dmesg. I believe
it should load "iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-jf-b0-48.ucode". I now use a driver that
does so and all is working fine.

Got a new zenbook UX431F and no wifi despite having a usually well supported 
intel wifi.
The PCI id is 8086 02f0. No clear if this is a AC9462, AC9560, 22000. The 
relation between the commercial name and the actual hardware remains mysterious 
to me.

I eventually found a workaround. The important bit for you may be that
it seems that the driver shipped with the standard bionic kernel
5.3.0-46 loads the wrong firmware blob.  It loads "iwlwifi-
Qu-b0-jf-b0-48.ucode" which crashes quickly, as seen in dmesg. Here is
why I believe it should load "iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-jf-b0-48.ucode":

* The backport-iwlwifi-dkms, version 7906 from
https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=backport-iwlwifi-dkms seems
in fact older than the driver found in kernel 5.3.0-46. I have to dkms
install --force to use it. It loads firmare "/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-
QuZ-a0-jf-b0-48.ucode" and does not crash. I can see the available ssids
in network manager. But dmesg shows an error setting up "wep" and it
seems unable to stay connected to my secure network.

* Then I tried version 8324 from https://launchpad.net/~canonical-hwe-
team/+archive/ubuntu/backport-iwlwifi. This one also loads
"/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-QuZ-a0-jf-b0-48.ucode" and all works fine!  Too
bad it took me several hours to find it.

Anyway, none of the drivers that load "/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-
QuZ-a0-jf-b0-48.ucode" show a firmware crash in the intel chip. The
shipped driver loads "iwlwifi-Qu-b0-jf-b0-48.ucode" and crashes,
resulting in no wifi card being registered.

We should not change RELEASE_ALERT_WITH_MESSAGE() to unconditionally
print its message.  That message is only meant to be used in debug
builds.  But if you really want a message in a release build, you can
always check the condition first and print your message before doing the
RELEASE_ASSERT.  I do not recommend doing this in the general case (for
performance reasons), but in your implementation here, it’ll only be
executed once.  So checking and printing that error message won’t hurt
much.

Interesting note: there's two similar laptops at hand:

DELL Inspiron 15 3000 with i3 - works fine with 5.3 kernel.
DELL Inspiron 15 3000 with Pentium(R) Silver N5000 - 5.3 does not boot!
