[Bug 1873685] Re: Wallpaper not updated to 20.04 default after upgrade

2020-04-22 Thread Chris Guiver
I just did a install of Lubuntu 20.04 (2020-04-22 ISO) where I used
manual partitioning, and replaced a prior SDA3 install of focal (I'm
guessing last performed before wallpapers were added) with the newer
install.

I opted to not-format the partition, and the install looks great,
however I was surprised by the 19.10 wallpaper there.

When I went into the edit desktop preferences (wallpaper image file),
what shows there points to the correct 20.04 image (when filename
copy/pasted & viewed in lximage-qt), but I didn't expect to see that
image.

As I didn't format, my $HOME was left untouched, which would likely
explain what I found, however I was surprised & remembered this bug.

[Bug 1874377] [NEW] Netplan does not connect to Wireless after `sudo netplan apply` until reboot

2020-04-22 Thread Pierre Equoy
Public bug reported:

Summary
===

When setting up Wireless network via netplan config on a Raspberry Pi 4
4GB with Ubuntu Server 20.04 (image focal-preinstalled-server-
arm64+raspi.img.xz 2020-04-22 19:39 667M), the settings are not taken
into account until the device is rebooted, because the service created
(netplan-wpa-wlan0.service) is in a "inactive (dead)" state.

A workaround is to manually restart the service after applying netplan
configuration

$ sudo netplan apply
$ sudo systemctl restart netplan-wpa-wlan0.service

This should be done automatically when a new netplan configuration is
applied.

Steps to reproduce
==

1. Install Ubuntu Server 20.04 image
(focal-preinstalled-server-arm64+raspi.img.xz) on a Raspberry Pi 4 4GB (I
haven't tested with Ubuntu Server on other devices).
2. Connect a screen and a USB keyboard, or connect to the device via serial
console (UART).
3. By default, the device is not connected to the network yet:

$ ip a
1: lo: mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN group
default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 ::1/128 scope host
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: eth0: mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN group
default qlen 1000
link/ether dc:a6:32:57:b9:ba brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: wlan0: mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default
qlen 1000
link/ether dc:a6:32:57:b9:bb brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

$ networkctl
IDX LINK TYPE OPERATIONAL SETUP
  1 loloopback carrier unmanaged
  2 eth0 etherno-carrier configuring
  3 wlan0 wlan off unmanaged

3 links listed.

4. Create a netplan config file to match your WiFi router config and
copy it to /etc/netplan/:

$ cat lab.yaml
network:
  version: 2
  wifis:
wlan0:
  access-points:
ubuntu-cert-wpa:
  password: myp455w0rd
  dhcp4: yes

$ sudo cp lab.yaml /etc/netplan/

5. Apply the new configuration:

$ sudo netplan apply

In journalctl:

Even if I wait 5 minutes, nothing moves. networkctl tells me wlan0 is
"configuring", but nothing happens in the journal.

Trying to restart systemd-networkd doesn't help:

[Bug 1873546] Re: GSmartControl interprets code 231 incorrectly

2020-04-22 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
The hardware maintenance phase of 16.04 finished end Q1 2018.
The release date of the Kingston SA400S37 ssd was Q1 2017.
Therefore, the upstream decision from Debian maintainer, see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/smartmontools/+bug/1858121
is within the bounds of the hardware maintenance phase.
Accordingly, update-smart-drivedb should be reinstated, backported from 18.04.

Thank you for your help. Yes, it is an bug report about Webex meeting.

I enable hardware-accelerated video decoding on chromium (80.0.3987.163,
official build, 64-bit) by editing chrome://flags. But, it still use
around 200 % CPU. Noticeably, the process did not turn down when I close
the tab of webex meeting.

The functions enabled was listed below.

I also try chrome (81.0.4044.122, official build, 64-bit) and enable
hardware-accelerated video decoding. It use around 105 % CPU.

[Bug 1874366] [NEW] uhome: unusable, requires /usr/bin/python but has no dependency, depends on to-be-removed python-requests

2020-04-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

python-requests is due for removal in 20.04 because it depends on other
modules that are already unbuildable due to removals.

Looking at the reverse-dependencies, I see that the uhome package
depends on python-requests, but does not depend on python. This means
the package is currently broken in focal, because it has not
transitioned to using /usr/bin/python2 as a shebang.

But it should really be migrated now to python3, so that we can remove
python-requests.

Re: [Bug 1874231] Re: mumble freezes all audio applications

2020-04-22 Thread Chris Knadle
Björn Jacke:
> Thank you for the pointer to the debian bug report. The workaround by
> disabling the start of Jack by editing the Mumble.ini works also here.

Good, thanks for the verification that it's the same issue and that the same
solution works.

One thing to note: I cannot tell which package version of Mumble this bug
relates to; that's not shown anywhere in the Ubuntu bug report. Although I'm
the Debian developer for the package, I'm not an Ubuntu user -- so to figure it
out I had to go to https://packages.ubuntu.com, figure out that Ubuntu 20.04
meant the "eoan" release, and then look up the mumble package underneath eoan to
see that it's the same current released version from Debian unstable.

Now that I know that, I know that this could be fixed relatively easily via a
patched upload. Maybe I'll prepare that for now and hold off on trying to
release mumble 1.3.1 when it's ready rather than trying to release the release
candidate.

[Bug 1869672] Re: kdump kernel can't be loaded using kernel 4.15.0-76

2020-04-22 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Hi yamato, thank you for the great report! I think I found the problem -
can you test my fix proposal? It's just a matter of adding the following
PPA to your system and installing the kernel:

launchpad.net/~gpiccoli/+archive/ubuntu/test1869672

You can run the following commands in order to achieve that:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gpiccoli/test1869672
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.15.0-97-generic
linux-modules-4.15.0-97-generic linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-97-generic

After that, reboot into this new kernel, and test kdump load if
possible. Also, please send me the output of the commands "uname -a" and
"kdump-config show" when running the PPA kernel.

Thanks again,

Guilherme

[Bug 1866834] Re: mesa no longer build with llvm-toolchain-10 1:10.0.0~+rc3-1

2020-04-22 Thread kisak
A follow up on this issue, llvm-toolchain-10 1:10.0.0-4 plus
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/4511 has
untangled this issue.

The point release variant of the merge request was expedited into mesa
20.0.4-2 Debian Sid: https://salsa.debian.org/xorg-
team/lib/mesa/-/commit/e17a7a622bd2b850317353a50399e1d789d6906e ) and
20.0.4-2ubuntu1 (Ubuntu Focal), although llvm was switched back to
llvm-9 for an unrelated reason.

[Bug 1874359] Re: alsa/sof: kernel oops on the machine without Intel hdmi audio codec (a regression in the asoc machine driver)

2020-04-22 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ Please apply the fix for #1872569 first, then apply this patch.
+
+ [Impact]
+ The fix for #1872569 introduces a regression, the driver access a
+ NULL pointer on the machiens without Intel hdmi audio codec.
+
+ [Fix]
+ pick a fixing patch from alsa/asoc repo, the patch doesn't assume
+ the first rtd is for hda codec, it will look for that rtd through
+ strstr()
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Boot the kenrel on those 2 Dell and 2 Lenovo machines which uses
+ this driver, the audio could work. disable the intel hdmi audio codec
+ through bios, the analogue audio still works
+
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, I have tested this patch Lenovo / Dell machines, they all worked well.

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-22 Thread Dexuan Cui via ubuntu-bugs
Sorry, I did miss this part of your previous reply:

root@stock19:~# systemctl list-jobs
JOB UNIT TYPE STATE
 48 setvtrgb.service start waiting
137 system-getty.slice start waiting
  1 graphical.target start waiting
102 systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service start waiting
 83 plymouth-quit-wait.service start running
  2 multi-user.target start waiting

I'm wondering if you can disable setvtrgb.service, system-getty.slice,
systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service, and plymouth-quit-wait.service,
and see if the long delay will disappear. I guess these 4 services don't
look critical to the GUI desktop.

Re: [Bug 1366418] Re: Bluetooth BCM43142A0 doesn’t work

2020-04-22 Thread Javier
I could solve it with these links, it was difficult for me, now I no longer
use that Ultrabox, but you can:

drivers - Bluetooth Broadcom 43142 isn't working - Ask Ubuntu

networking - ubuntu 14.04 bluetooth BCM43142 no discovery (tx timeout) -
Ask Ubuntu

[Bug 1874344] [NEW] php 7.2 failure on Bionic install of icingaweb2

2020-04-22 Thread Xav Paice
Public bug reported:

When I use the icingaweb2 package 2.7.2-1.bionic, I hit
https://github.com/Icinga/icingaweb2/issues/3459. If I use
2.7.3-1.bionic from the upstream repo https://packages.icinga.com/ubuntu
this is fixed - can we get a refresh?

Reproducer: follow

/#installing-icinga-web-2-from-package except do not add the
packages.icinga.com repo, use the packages in main.

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-22 Thread Matthew Swift
To clarify, I say the purple login screen is "more native" because
that's what I get on the monitor of a physically independent machine
(not a VM) running Ubunutu; naturally I do not get an (X)RDP screen on
that machine ever.

[Bug 1848534] Re: [Microsoft Hyper-V guest] System shows graphic artifacts for a moment, then text cursor for about minute and then starts

2020-04-22 Thread Matthew Swift
You missed that I did include the output of 'systemctl list-jobs' during
the crucial interval of delay.

I will follow your instructions regarding boot parameters etc. and post
results asap.

I expect there is an enormous difference between accessing the VM via
RPD (XRDP) protocol and accessing the VM via the more native interface
(purple screen) which is eventually available on 19.10, even though both
are accessed through the Hyper-V "Connection" interface. XRDP seems like
the preferred way, it's the only way I get to 18.04, and forcing it on
19.10 is the only way I get screen size control and cut-and-paste from
guest to host. Am seeking confirmation of what is the correct/preferred
behavior is with 19.10. Should I be getting the "native" purple login
screen quickly and then have cut-paste and screen control, or should be
getting the XRDP interface quickly, just like I do with 18.04?

[Bug 1874343] [NEW] Thunar hangs for several seconds on first launch

2020-04-22 Thread Wowbagger
Public bug reported:

Unlike bug #775117, this hang is not accompanied by any error messages,
and once it gets launched, Thunar is fully functional.

During the hang, there are no CPU cores showing high activity, so this
isn't a fast spin loop. There is plenty of memory, and the local disks
are NVMe.

I've tried to attach gdb during these hangs, and it *seems* to always be
in transactions with D-Bus, but that could be a coincidence.

@eggie You shouldn't be using nouveau on your hardware; it has almost no
support for the Turing architecture from Nvidia. You should blacklist
nouveau and then reboot. If you want to make use of your Nvidia card,
you'll have to use the binary Nvidia driver sadly.

[Bug 1871984] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in st_theme_node_lookup_shadow()

2020-04-22 Thread Ivan Matyunin
I never isolated a way to reproduce this bug, and I haven't encountered
it again (even with keeping the extensions enabled). In fact generally
the gnome-shell crashes have largely stopped. I'm not sure at what point
that was, but for at least the past few days, things that would often
crash gnome-shell no longer cause crashes (such as clicking the top-bar
widgets on the lock screen, which before reliably triggered
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1868440).

[Bug 1870346] Re: Wifi configuration

2020-04-22 Thread Dave Jones
Sorry Dan - no joy with the patched systemd either. I've attached
another chunk of output from collect-logs in case it shows anything
interesting (I don't see anything hugely different from the last run,
but I'm not wholly sure what I should be looking for).

On your earlier query, I'm not sure networkd wait-online does know how
to deal with wlan0 ... by default it doesn't appear in the config, but
I'm not sure what that implies as far as netplan's configuration is
concerned. If it defaults to "optional: false" then wait-online
definitely isn't waiting for it (I remember the two minute wait we had
when eth0 wasn't marked optional in Disco!). However, if it defaults to
"optional: true" for wireless interfaces, then things could be operating
as intended. I'll try setting up an image in which the wireless is
explicitly marked "optional: false" and see what happens!

2020-04-22 Thread Egbert van der Wal
@arighi - it helps, but introduces different problems on my Dell XPS 15
7590. I get much less frequent lockups but they still do occur. It seems
to introduce similar issues with Nouveau.

My dmesg gives me lots of messages like this:

[ 67.714761] nouveau :01:00.0: fifo: SCHED_ERROR 08 []
[ 67.855754] nouveau :01:00.0: DRM: failed to idle channel 0 [DRM]

and lots of more information. I'll add the full output of dmesg as an
attachment.

Not sure if the new problems are introduced by your patch but I didn't
experience them before on 5.3 and are also not occuring on the
5.4.28-050428-generic kernel from `mainline`. So back to 5.4.28 for me,
again.
