[Bug 1845677] Re: volume control doesn't work (it's just on/off) on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen

2020-04-27 Thread Martin Seener
I tried updating libasound2(-data), pulseaudio and kernel to 5.3.0-46 (not
oem!) in my Mint 19.3 Box (Bionic). Also removed manual changes like blacklist
snd_hda_intel and snd_soc_skl and also removed the "ucm" added by the script i
found on github (posted above) from /usr/share/alsa/ucm/sof-skl_hda_card.
After that, I rebooted and sound and mic came up grad - except bass speaker
whereas the sound is 1. mostly treble and 2. sound in general was quieter as
before.

My BIOS starts with N2H, so i checked the new ucm conf and tried to play
around with the bass settings there and diff'ed with my HiFi.conf i had
before but no luck. No base. What i'am doing wrong?

[Bug 1866772] Re: Sys oopsed with sysfs test in ubuntu_stress_smoke_test on X-hwe ARM64

Hello Colin, I can see this issue with 5.0 kernel (5.0.0-47.51~18.04.1)
as well, with the same node hotdog-kernel.

Do you think if we should fix this in 5.0 as well?
Thanks

[Bug 1875012] Re: KVM internal error. Suberror: 1 -- emulation failure

2020-04-27 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hmm,
we had a similar issue but that would not affect things back until Bionic as
you reported it.
That was in bug 1866870 and fixed by a change in seabios. Also you reported
Focal as affected wherer I fixed this particular one for sure.

In general the error messages we have so far are not usually very
helpful. That is more of a "class of errors" than a specific one to look
at. Thanks for attaching the XML and image right away.

In the past this also was dependent on the reporters CPU, so let's see
if we can reproduce this for debugging.

[Bug 1787307] Re: package opendkim 2.11.0~alpha-11build1 failed to install/upgrade: installed opendkim package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-04-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package opendkim - 2.11.0~beta2-2

---
opendkim (2.11.0~beta2-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Bump debhelper compat to compatibility level 12, necessitating many small
changes in .install files and similar to silence dh_missing warnings.
  * General packaging overhaul:
- Package synopses have been streamlined.
- opendkim-tools: System utilities have moved from /usr/bin to /usr/sbin.
- opendkim-tools: A few secondary statistics utilities are now included.
- Various additional documentation is included.
- Recommends: Promote opendkim-tools to opendkim recommends, because it is
indispensable for initial setup and almost always installed together
  with opendkim.
- Suggests: Drop unbound from opendkim suggests, because opendkim already
uses libunbound, suggesting the standalone service may be misleading.
- Remnants of obsolete (unused) "reputation" packages have been purged.
  * Additional patches:
- opendkim-genzone: Fix inverted logic with subdomains (after a patch
  originally by Andreas Schulze).
- opendkim: Suppress an empty pair of brackets logged to syslog.
  * Drop redundant specification of default config ("-x /etc/opendkim.conf")
in systemd and init services.
  * Rewrite /etc/opendkim.conf and discourage use of /etc/default/opendkim
(Closes: #861169).
  * postinst: Make script more robust when expected directories are not
present (LP: #1787307).

[Bug 1776873] Re: Whitelisted allowedURLschemes breaks some desktop apps

2020-04-27 Thread Sven Meyer
(I just wrote an article about this issue. Feel free to comment before I
publish it.)

# Ubutu 20.04 was just released and is broken right from the start (as
is 19.10)

Millions of people have started working from home and may have even done
a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04, but as they use Chromium (the pre-
installed open source version of the Google Chrome browser) and want to
join an online video conference with zoom .. it does not work! Joining
slack from a link ... does not work! What's going on ???

TDLR : The team responsible for the snap (Snappy) software manager at
Ubuntu messed it up. They do not understand the implications and
severity of this bug since almost 2 years, and there is no easy fix at
the moment.

Your options:
1) Use Firefox instead of Chromium browser, although Firefox (still) has
(sometimes ?) an issue with opening a zoom link. When prompted to run
`xdg-open` it does not work the first time, you have to do it a 2nd time,
(only) then it works.

# Background story (skip if you are not interested):

Working in IT for many years, I have praised Ubuntu as a free, stable,
non-intrusive, great alternative to Windows in recent years, which (now) works
out of the box on most hardware. I regarded it now as a great replacement (even
from a usability point of view) for the average (non technical) user.
My partner is a totally (!) non-technical person, working as an online language
teacher for her living, but I was able to convince her to get rid of Windows
just after she bought a new laptop and let me replace it with Ubuntu 18.04 MATE.
Everything worked fine, which is good because otherwise she would blame me that
she looses her income because I replaced Windows with Ubuntu. It's also good me
for, as every hour I have to spend on administrating her computer is one paid
hour less on my side.

A few months ago, I upgraded to 19.04, which is not supported with new
updates any more, so now that Ubuntu 20.04 came out on 24 April 2020, I
thought it would be a good idea to anyhow wipe the whole setup and do a
fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 MATE.

# END - Background story

# The problem : Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 + Chromium + zoom, Telegram, slack ...
(many desktop apps)

Starting with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04 MATE, suddenly it was not
possible any more to launch zoom from the online learning platform, and
for the heck I could not get it to work quickly (had to give my Arch
Linux / Manjaro Laptop to my partner so that she could in time conduct
her online teaching).

Some google research surfaced the following facts which I will try to
summarize here :

* Since Ubuntu 19.10, Chromium is installed by default using the snap
(Snappy) package management system [https://snapcraft.io]

* For some reason ("security" ? - to be filled in)
"snapd has a hard-coded list of allowed URL schemes. Currently that is limited
to "http", "https", "mailto", "snap".
which break a lot of desktop apps, not limited to zoom, but also many other
important widely used ones as well (Telegram, github, slack, ... looks like
"every polular app")

This bug has already been reported 2018-06-14 !

Reading through the discussion, I could not believe that this bug is already
that old (almost 2 years as of 28 April 2020) and has not been fixed by now !
I think this is a major issue !! Maybe I have overlooked a great solution, but
if we aim for making Ubuntu a great platform for everybody !!, it should work
(at least) with most commonly used software and scenarios out of the box.

Especially these days, as many people started working from home, and
many people trying to use zoom for the first time (zoom's security and
privacy issues left aside for the moment) or slack, or ... With a recent
(19.10 or 20.04) Ubuntu install and it simply does not work ! .. and
there is no easy fix?

How will that affect the adoption and reputation of Ubuntu, if the same setup
works perfectly fine on Windows and Apple, but is very hard to fix on Ubuntu ?
If I would be into conspiracy theories, I would even consider that it is a
(paid) attack against the Ubuntu ecoystem - that's how severe I see it, and to
my surprise the snap developers just don't get it.

If Ubuntu / snap team does not want to limit Ubuntu adoption to developers who
are forced to compile a patch by themselves, leaving out millions of users who
just want to have a trustworthy, free and stable platform, than any "solution"
which requires more than 1 click to confirm that Chromium is (this time /
always) allowed to open a certain app, is just useless.
I totally agree with ...

Christopher Barrington-Leigh (cpbl) wrote on 2020-03-23: "If the approach so
far is to individually whitelist classes of links, surely can't this be better
dealt with by doing something similar to how Chromium responds to me clicking
on a downloaded file: it asks me if it's okay to have

In short,

Thanks for the bug report.

You appear to be using 'dash-to-dock' which is not part of Ubuntu so we

Please instead report the bug to the developers of your extension at:

I don't think I have configured anything WRT how systemd-resolved works. All
configuration comes from DHCP.

I have configured and sometimes a couple VPN networks use on my machine,
these have some explicit configuration on them (I'm (hopefully) not
using them as default route and I had to configure IPSEC algorithms
manually to be able to connect), but the issue manifests regardless of
whether or not I'm connected to them, so I think it's safe to assume
they don't have any effect on it.

I'm planning to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 within a few weeks.

[Bug 1875249] Re: [Inspiron 11-3162, Realtek ALC3234, Black Headphone Out, Front] No sound output from earphones

2020-04-27 Thread Douglas Silva
Oh, I can finally hear sound through the earphones by changing the
capture source. Too bad the change doesn't persist after I remove and
reinsert the connector. Every time that happens, I must change it to
Headset Mic, otherwise there will be no sound output.

It also works when I do it through the Pulseaudio GUI mixer that comes
with Xubuntu. Now I just wish the default selection could be one that
works out of the box, as it was in previous Ubuntu versions.

[Bug 145065] Re: [needs-packaging] libapache2-mod-limitipconn

2020-04-27 Thread David Jao
Obviously the previous comment is very old, but I'm afraid it is based
on a misunderstanding of the respective feature sets of mod_limitipconn
and mod_bw.

mod_bw allows you to specify a collection of IP addresses, and a total
aggregate limit on the number of connections allowed from that
collection of addresses. For example, you can say "Serve no more than
five simultaneous connections to the entire 192.168.2.0/24 address
block."

mod_limitipconn by contrast allows you to specify an upper limit on the
number of simultaneous connections that an arbitrary client IP address
is allowed to open. With mod_limitipconn you can say "Serve no more than
two simultaneous connections to any single IP address."

As far as I know there is NO way to duplicate the functionality of
mod_limitipconn in mod_bw, short of enumerating each of the 2^32
possible IP addresses in your apache config file and configuring a
connection limit for each address. If there was such a way, I wouldn't
have written mod_limitipconn, because I tried for a long time to get
mod_bw to do what I wanted.

[Bug 1818391] Re: Missing libdist-zilla-perl dependency libterm-ui-perl

2020-04-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package libdist-zilla-perl - 6.014-1

---
libdist-zilla-perl (6.014-1) unstable; urgency=medium

[ David Miguel Susano Pinto ]
  * Recommend packages with modules required to run the test scripts
generated by the test plugins.
  * Recommend libterm-ui-perl which is required by UploadToCPAN plugin.
(LP: #1818391)

  [ gregor herrmann ]
  * debian/watch: use uscan version 4.
  * Import upstream version 6.014.
  * Update build and runtime dependencies.
  * Update years of upstream and packaging copyright.
  * Add debian/libdist-zilla-perl.maintscript instead of the manual
maintainer scripts with calls to `dpkg-maintscript-helper
rm_conffile'.
  * Declare compliance with Debian Policy 4.5.0.
  * Set Rules-Requires-Root: no.
  * Drop unneeded version constraints from (build) dependencies.
  * Annotate test-only build dependencies with .
  * Bump debhelper-compat to 12.
  * Set upstream metadata fields: Bug-Submit.
  * Remove obsolete fields Contact, Name from debian/upstream/metadata.
  * Add a lintian override for a false positive package-contains-
documentation-outside-usr-share-doc warning.
  * Add another lintian override (library-package-name-for-application).
  * Drop a test from debian/tests/pkg-perl/smoke-skip. It works now.

Maybe it's the "HP Wide Vision FHD Camera" which should be treated as a
camera and microphone? i see it register with uvcvideo in both.

[Bug 1788321] Re: swapon failed: invalid argument

2020-04-27 Thread clickwir
Fixed my problem.

While looking through /var/log/syslog, I noticed this line around the
same time swap mount failed.

BTRFS warning (device sda3): swapfile must not be copy-on-write

Then a few lines later...

systemd[1]: swap.img.swap: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
systemd[1]: Failed to activate swap /swap.img.
systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Swap.
systemd[1]: swap.target: Job swap.target/start failed with result 'dependency'.

Yes my root is on btrfs and I did not see this error before. So I
deleted /swap.img and started over.

$ sudo rm -rf /swap.img
$ sudo touch /swap.img
$ sudo chattr +C /swap.img
$ sudo fallocate -l 2G /swap.img
$ sudo chmod 600 /swap.img
$ sudo mkswap /swap.img
$ sudo swapon /swap.img

No error and "swapon --show" gives this:

NAME TYPE SIZE USED PRIO
/swap.img file 2G 0B -2

Just what I was expecting. So problem solved for me, maybe a check can
be put in to see if it's on btrfs and apply the 'chattr +C' option.

[Bug 1875528] [NEW] Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

2020-04-27 Thread Joel Lisenby
Public bug reported:

Expected:

After my computer had gone to sleep and I log in I should see only a
single active mouse cursor.

What happened instead:

After my computer had gone to sleep and I logged in I noticed a second
frozen/stuck mouse cursor was on screen and was rendered in one place
over any active application windows.

I recently upgraded to 20.04 from 19.10 but the same issue was occurring
in 19.10 as well.

Logging out completely then logging back in again removed the extra
frozen cursor.

[Bug 1841894] Re: Wayland: Image of mouse cursor left on screen after unlock

2020-04-27 Thread Joel Lisenby
Same issue happening to me, was happening on 19.10 and still continues
after upgrading to 20.04 today.

Logging out and back in again resets/hides the extra "dead" cursor, but
it appears again after locking the screen and the monitors go to sleep.

[Bug 1852183]

2020-04-27 Thread Adolfo Jayme
@Larry, no, that’s not how we roll in open source. Our communities
identify problems in each other’s software all the time by forwarding
bugs. In this case the problem was addressed in Mutter five months ago:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/2fbbf657d51f14bdcb75c045637e6ebf4df10063

So the “NOTOURBUG” resolution is correct here.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2020-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That reminds me...

Everyone please note something very particular about this bug:

> I can still move the mouse around and can still click on items in the
Activities screen and the top-bar.

If you find you can't click on Activities or the top bar then this is
NOT the right bug for you. In that case your gnome-shell process has
actually crashed or frozen. So please use the link in comment #144 or
just open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

[Bug 1875488] Re: Entire system freezes when Chrome freezes when I try to quit the app by clicking on the X button, resulting in an unresponsive machine.

2020-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1875036] Re: bridge stops working on focal update

2020-04-27 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Hello Javier,

Actually the release notes for the version you were at:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BionicBeaver/ReleaseNotes#netplan.io

already deprecated ifupdown in favor of netplan.io.

Upgrade path to 20.04 has likely uninstalled bridge-utils because of
that. You can keep using ifupdown + vlan + bridge-utils + net-tools but
do have in mind that those tools are being deprecated in favor of:
systemd-networkd, netplan.io, iproute2, etc.

Good examples on how to obtain the same result using netplan.io can be
found at:

https://netplan.io/examples

For now I'm marking this as a Invalid bug. If think there is anything
else on this topic I would suggest writing to Ubuntu Users mailing list,
a correct place for community-based technical support.

Best regards,

Rafael D. Tinoco

[Bug 1875522] [NEW] suggest removing -d requirement to upgrade to new releases

2020-04-27 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, I'd like to suggest that the do-release-upgrade -d command line
parameter should behave differently than it does.

At the moment, we aren't promoting focal upgrades to our existing bionic
and eoan users. This makes sense.

However, we have many enthusiast users who would like to upgrade, and
would probably be a good position to help us find and fix bugs in the
upgrade process.

These enthusiasts are rightly concerned that do-release-upgrade -d will
upgrade them to gorilla. They're also wondering if 20.04 is actually
released, etc.

The conversations around this point on irc are endless and often.

So: I'd like to propose that -d is used to upgrade to the devel release.
And in the weeks or months before we change the meta-release files to
encourage upgrades to the next release, we allow people to upgrade to
the next release without resorting to scary-sounding command line
options.

Thanks
