[Bug 1877633] Re: libseccomp 2.4.3 (and 2.4.2) is not correctly resolving (at least) the getrlimit syscall on arm64
When generating the list of systems calls for aarch64, libseccomp uses the generic kernel API headers rather than the architecture specific ones - and so misses the definitions of getrlimit, setrlimit and clone3 for aarch64 - if this is changed to use arch-specific headers then we can regenerate the syscalls.csv and these are now present as expected. Alright, this *new feature* (which is actually fixing an unwanted behavior) has the following section added to iscsid.conf: # To prevent doing automatic scans that would add unwanted luns to the system # we can disable them and have sessions only do manually requested scans. # Automatic scans are performed on startup, on login, and on AEN/AER reception # on devices supporting it. For HW drivers all sessions will use the value # defined in the configuration file. This configuration option is independent # of scsi_mod scan parameter. (The default behavior is auto): node.session.scan = auto And this makes it to have the exact same behavior as before this fix, so this makes it suitable for SRU. [Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise
A workaround is not relevant because the users that are hit by this bug don't know that they need a workaround until it is too late. I don't remember ever installing Linux and knowing beforehand that I need to apply a workaround to circumvent the installer. I know I sound like a broken record (see my previous comment here), but the whole point of this bug is that the installer is lying to end-users. It presents an option to choose a boot device and then ignores that choice and severely damages the laptop. Consider that not all users are highly technical and know how to use gparted or mount, or what are boot flags. All they want is Ubuntu on their usb flash drive. It can cause a great deal of aggravation to fix a bricked laptop (and potential loss of money too). It also definitely reduces those users trust and engagement with Ubuntu. Personally, I don't think that adding more details to the installer like another warning message is an adequate solution. The solution has to be one of two things: 1) Fix the option to choose boot device correctly 2) or remove this option from the installer completely until you are ready to support it properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1396379 Title: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1396379/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1872863] Re: QEMU/KVM display is garbled when booting from kernel EFI stub due to missing bochs-drm module
I repeated the same SRU verification as before, this time using kmod from -proposed. I installed a fresh Bionic KVM, with EFI enabled. I upgraded the system to use the latest -updates packages. Linux 4.15.0-99-generic and Kmod 24-1ubuntu3.3 were installed. I shut the machine down, set the VGA device to vga=std, and rebooted. The screen was garbled and unreadable. I then ssh'd in, enabled -proposed, and installed Linux 4.15.0-100-generic, and kmod 24-1ubuntu3.4. I rebooted, and the display came up great, and was perfectly readable. Attached screenshot as proof. [Bug 1643706] Re: snap apps need to be able to browse outside of user $HOME dir. for Desktop installs
Dziękuję! Your insights are very much appreciated. I learned something new. > - how to represent /data for security, is it equivalent to the home > interface or do you want to special-case it? I'd like to _assign_ it to some predefined interface at least. Special cases tend to make things more complex which usually doesn't help security. > - what if the location is not /data but actually something that > already exists in snap view? say /usr/lib, after all, it is configurable > so the user may, without knowing the consequences, choose to do that. Hmm, aren't developers allowed to limit the number of choices a user has, though? So what's the trouble in failing to mount a snap which has such clashes? Personally I'd write _that_ off under "fail early" and be very happy with it as a user. At least this way _snap_ would show a clear error rather than VLC showing some error which doesn't make sense at face value. And this way it's likely I would have caused issues anyway (i.e. by specifying an illicit path that was already present in the snap), so by the system preventing me from doing it, no harm would have been done, right? And it's better than figuring out some time later that something fails, just because the VLC running as a snap doesn't have the same idea of the file system I have (which is by purpose, I understand, but which isn't obvious without some additional reading -> user perspective). So long story short: the ease of use that the snap packages supposedly bring, falls apart quite quickly if you run into an issue like _this_. And seeing it without knowing implementation details (like you!), the VLC instance has presumably no idea that it's running in as a snap and possibly shouldn't know it either, whereas as a user I am left to assume that VLC is to blame (which, it turns out, it isn't). Hope that clarifies a bit better why I think this is a usability/UX issue. With the --classic option not working, but being touted everywhere as a "workaround" for the issue and with VLC fully moving to snaps, where does that leave me as a user? I get that there ought to be a balancing between security and convenience. But convenience comes in shades, whereas the refusal of VLC to play stuff is binary (either it plays or it refuses to play outside of hardcoded locations ... but with an error message that doesn't _really_ help me as a user; and I had looked into snaps before due to LXD). > The implementation is evolving. As we gain more kernel features and > learn of creative ways to use existing features it may become possible > to do what you want. Right now we are where we are. Yep, I'm an avid user of bind-mounts already, so it's not a huge deal for me. However, some tools do misbehave with bind-mounts, so items show up multiple times in GNOME despite x-gvfs-hide mount option. And _that_ - while not to be blamed on snap or VLC - is an issue that means that there are now already two aspects that force me to adjust the way I work. > I hope you understand where we are coming from. There are lots of > use cases and everyone cannot be supported at the same instant in > equal amount, as we have finite resources. Absolutely. I have the same for the FLOSS projects I maintain. So please don't take this personally in any way. Please rest assured if it came across this way it wasn't my intention. The only intention was to provide a user's perspective. I have a workaround for this issue. First make sure that packages pulseaudio-utils and osspd-alsa are installed, the run update- alternatives and choose ossp-alsap as the option: $ sudo update-alternatives --config ossp-slave There are 2 choices for the alternative ossp-slave (providing /usr/lib/osspd/ossp-slave). [Bug 1874257] Re: SSH fails with connection timed out - in VPN and hangs here "expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY" + Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
It appears you are using *OpenConnect*, although both the strings OpenVPN and OpenConnect appear in prior posts. These are *completely different* VPN clients. You are using an *ancient* old release of OpenConnect v7.06. The automatic MTU detection logic has been vastly improved in newer versions of OpenConnect: https://www.infradead.org/openconnect/changelog.html So yes, this is indeed a bug in OpenConnect's MTU handling, but likely one which we've long since fixed upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1874257 Title: SSH fails with connection timed out - in VPN and hangs here "expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY" + Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1874257/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1877892] [NEW] lvmcache man page lacks warning about unclean shutdowns
Public bug reported: Hello, The man page for lvmcache lacks any warnings about the behaviour of lvmcache when unclean shutdowns occur. In particular an unclean shutdown results in the entire cache being marked dirty on next boot and a lengthy write out of the entire cache begins. This occurs regardless of the mode (writethrough or writeback). This behaviour has been raised previously on upstream linux-lvm and dm- devel mailing lists, but the situation has not changed since at least 2014. I don't expect the implementation to be changed therfor, only that the documentation be updated to highlight this behaviour. This is extra strange because - It works on 20.04 Kubuntu on my workstation (it has the exact same extension and settings) - It works in chormium browser - Normal videos work I've already tried: - Reinstalling firefox - deleting the ~/.mozilla folder and using firefox with a freshly generated one - using safe-mode None of those changed anything ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: firefox 76.0+build2-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-29.33-generic 5.4.30 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64 AddonCompatCheckDisabled: False ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: jesko 1080 F pulseaudio BuildID: 20200429185419 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip Channel: Unavailable CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun May 10 21:02:11 2020 DefaultProfileExtensions: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing DefaultProfileIncompatibleExtensions: Unavailable (corrupt or non-existant compatibility.ini or extensions.sqlite) DefaultProfileLocales: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing DefaultProfilePrefErrors: Unexpected character ',' before close parenthesis @ /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja:greprefs.js:738 DefaultProfilePrefSources: prefs.js DefaultProfilePrefs: extensions.lastAppVersion: "73.0.1" (prefs.js) security.sandbox.content.tempDirSuffix: "e28738aa-dad9-4b48-b315-6ebeb3ccf3df" (prefs.js) security.sandbox.plugin.tempDirSuffix: "19210103-39c1-4a97-bef8-a6f4a9e3526e" (prefs.js) DefaultProfileThemes: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing ForcedLayersAccel: False InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-05-09 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) IpRoute: default via 192.168.178.1 dev wlp0s20f3 proto dhcp metric 600 169.254.0.0/16 dev wlp0s20f3 scope link metric 1000 192.168.178.0/24 dev wlp0s20f3 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.178.107 metric 600 Profile0Extensions: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing Profile0IncompatibleExtensions: Unavailable (corrupt or non-existant compatibility.ini or extensions.sqlite) Profile0Locales: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing Profile0PrefErrors: Unexpected character ',' before close parenthesis @ /usr/lib/firefox/omni.ja:greprefs.js:738 Profile0PrefSources: prefs.js Profile0Themes: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing Profiles: Profile1 (Default) - LastVersion=75.0/20200403170909 (Out of date) Profile0 - LastVersion=76.0/20200429185419 (In use) RunningIncompatibleAddons: False SourcePackage: firefox UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 03/18/2020 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: N2HET47W (1.30 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20QFS10B00 dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0J40697 WIN dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 31 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: None dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN2HET47W(1.30):bd03/18/2020:svnLENOVO:pn20QFS10B00:pvrThinkPadX1Yoga4th:rvnLENOVO:rn20QFS10B00:rvrSDK0J40697WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct31:cvrNone: dmi.product.family: ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th dmi.product.name: 20QFS10B00 dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20QF_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 Yoga 4th dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877891 Title: Firefox does not play live streams To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1877891/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
