[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)

2020-05-14 Thread Davide
I was rushed sorry (comment #127). For me the problem occurs
systematically only using the copy command from the context menu (right
click), otherwise at the moment I was unable to reproduce it. This is
probably another bug. I did the tests on two real machines.

Re: [Bug 1871573] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2] HDMI port can't be found

2020-05-14 Thread Igor
Hi Daniel,

I found workaround.
Discrete graphics in BIOS didn't have impact in my case.
I didn't work with built-in (Intel) only graphics.
Needed "nvidia" or "on-demand" (ex: /usr/bin/prime-select on-demand)
Disabling Secure Boot was required to make it work.

Thank you,
Igor

Thanks for the bug report. The regression in pulseaudio update
1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.2 (particularly on some Dells) is already covered by
bug 1878327 and bug 1876065 so we should use those.

[Bug 1878718] Re: Hotkey for switching display output unusable due to switching to next option immediately after release

2020-05-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report.

I didn't know about that hotkey. On my system it is Super+P and only
works when a secondary monitor is plugged in. Are you using Super+P or
some function key unique to your model of laptop?

[Bug 1876046] Re: [XPS L501X, Realtek ALC665, Speaker, Internal] "Analog Stereo" and "Build-in speaker" appears "unplugged/unavailable"

2020-05-14 Thread kffiatek
After today's upgrade:
pulseaudio/focal-updates,focal-security,now 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.2 amd64
[installed]

Sound stopped completely: "Establishing connection to pulseaudio. Please
wait" - goes forever.

How can I downgrade to pulseaudio-module-bluetooth_13.99.1-1ubuntu3?
# sudo apt install pulseaudio=13.99.1-lubuntu3
This says Version '13.99.1-lubuntu3' for 'pulseaudio' was not found" despite
this:
Listing... Done
pulseaudio/focal-updates,focal-security 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.2 amd64
pulseaudio/focal 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3 amd64

Greetings

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)

2020-05-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
When bugs become oversubscribed like this one (86 people!) it becomes
increasingly difficult to satisfy everyone at the same time. So the most
pragmatic way to handle it in my experience is to rely on the vote of
the original reporter.

Then if the bug gets closed and some people still have issues we can
separate their duplicate bugs, making those bugs open again.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04 (see comment 93)

2020-05-14 Thread Adam Dingle
Hi Daniel - I'm the one who first reported this Launchpad bug back in
November. :) I'm very happy to see that there is a proposed fix, since
I (like many others) have continued to experience this bug on a daily
basis for many months now. I appreciate your asking my opinion, though
it certainly should not be the only one that counts here.

I am running Focal (20.04) and I just installed the proposed
3.36.2-1ubuntu1~20.04.1 package. I'll need to run with it for a day or
two before I'll have an opinion about whether the fix is adequate. Keep
fingers crossed. :)

[Bug 1878742] [NEW] KDE - can't login with NFS $HOME

2020-05-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If a users home directory is an NFS server, KDE fails to start with the
error "No write access to $HOME directory". The fact that the error is
logged to .xsession-errors in the users home directory is a bit ironic.

This is reproducible on 20.04 and 18.04

[Bug 1878742] [NEW] KDE - can't login with NFS $HOME

2020-05-14 Thread Jason D. Kelleher
Public bug reported:

If a users home directory is an NFS server, KDE fails to start with the
error "No write access to $HOME directory". The fact that the error is
logged to .xsession-errors in the users home directory is a bit ironic.

This is reproducible on 20.04 and 18.04

[Bug 1814983] Re: zfs poor sustained read performance from ssd pool

2020-05-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Colin, this looks promising for my arc_prune spinlock contention
problems:

https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/pull/10331

with some background here:

https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/7559

This might have a simple ~dozen line fix! It's not yet reviewed by the
openzfs gurus but it sure *looks* plausible to me. I tried to bodge this
patch into the dkms module you gave me for my other zfs problem, but I
have no confidence in my work -- I tried to reduce the number of
arc_prune threads but failed, so I'm skeptical if I was able to change
anything anyway. (I'm finding dkms to be *very* confusing.)

Any chance I can ask you to put together a dkms with this patch? I'd
trust your work way further. :)

Thanks

Pardon my ignorance. I am a novice.

I am trying to install it from the git for the past one day as per the
guidance here:
https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Documentation/Developer/PulseAudioFromGit/

However, I am unsuccessful. I couldn't install it. Else, I could have
got back with the result for bug 1878327.

Currently, I am waiting for it to move to Pre-released updates to test
it or for the release of a patch by Kai-Heng Feng (kaihengfeng).

If you (or anyone here) can give me a hint on how to install it from
git, I will be more than happy to be a part of your team and to come
back here and tell you the outcome with my machine.

[Bug 1865218] Re: mod_php gets disabled during do-release-upgrade

2020-05-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
A PPA with the proposed fix is here:

https://launchpad.net/~bryce/+archive/ubuntu/php-defaults-fix-
lp1865218-mod-php-upgrade

Review and preliminary testing indicates this is ready.

One limitation of the proposed solution for Ubuntu is that this assumes
a single supported PHP version for a given distro release. This will
always hold true for Ubuntu, but not necessarily for Debian. For this
reason, while I think this change is good for Ubuntu it may not be for
Debian. However, once it's validated for Ubuntu I'm hopeful it can lead
to a more generally compatible solution that works for both distros.
But this should be good for a Ubuntu-only SRU.

[Bug 1747499] Re: 98-reboot-required and Interaction with livepatch

2020-05-14 Thread Christian Reis
Actually, I think there's more to it. Here are some thoughts

1. The compelling use case for livepatch is in fact to minimize and
control the need to reboot; this is what customers pay us for. For many
of them, rebooting every 3 weeks is either impossible or at least very
painful. Let's not lose sight of that.

2. The output of canonical-livepatch status clearly says when you are up
to date and when a reboot is required. In other words, the client does
know when all patches are applied, and alternatively, when it is time to
reboot.

3. Every external tool we've had customers ask us (AWS Patch Manager,
Azure Patch Management) looks at /var/run/reboot-required and uses that
to decide whether to reboot or not.

The net effect of #3 is that canonical-livepatch is rendered useless,
basically, because every 3 weeks everything needs to be rebooted. And
it's a critical use case, so we do need to address this in order to
retain value in the proposition.

[Bug 1878738] Re: program abort by "lh_table_new: calloc failed"

2020-05-14 Thread Robert Rouquette
I have identified the same issue. Parsing a relatively small file may
result in a calloc failure because lh_table_new attempts to allocate an
incorrectly size block of memory. In my case it attempted to allocate
over 68 GiB in a single allocation.

The cause seems to be the changes in the CVE patch:

[Bug 1878613] Re: UI freeze

2020-05-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please:

 1. Follow these instructions in case it was the shell crashing and restarting:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

 2. Reproduce the freeze again and then immediately after it run:

journalctl -b0 > postfreeze.txt
lspci -k > lspcik.txt

and attach the resulting two text files.

 3. Take a video of the freeze using a phone if you can, and attach it
here.

[Bug 1878667] Re: Gnome Shell freezes and then shows the window previews of Firefox twice, one over the over

2020-05-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1877553] Re: wifi gets automatically disabled when screen is locked and can be enabled only after a reboot.

2020-05-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Comment #5 shows the wifi is disabled in hardware ("blocked")
and not in software. So it's not a gnome-shell bug.

Hopefully the laptop has a wifi switch or key combo you can use to
toggle that.

[Bug 1878732] [NEW] Ctrl+U / "Url(s) >> Open" fails

2020-05-14 Thread macho

Oh that is a lot better:

$ MY_MIRROR=http://wopr/ubuntu/ ubuntu-security-status
1666 packages installed, of which:
1378 receive package updates with LTS until 4/2025
275 could receive security updates with ESM Apps until 4/2030
13 packages are no longer available for download

Packages that are not available for download may be left over from a
previous release of Ubuntu, may have been installed directly from a
.deb file, or are from a source which has been disabled.
For more information on the packages, run 'ubuntu-security-status
--unavailable'.

Enable Extended Security Maintenance (ESM Apps) to get 1 security
update (so far) and enable coverage of 275 packages.

Enable ESM Apps with: ua enable esm-apps
