[Bug 1795919] Re: fs quota calculation is wrong

2020-05-21 Thread Bryce Harrington
This issue is not reproducing on bionic for me. I've fleshed out the
test case in the bug description with a more precise series of steps to
set things up in a multipass VM, but the quota values I'm seeing appear
to be correct. I'm guessing there's either some additional
configuration step, or the issue has been fixed elsewhere (maybe in the
kernel?)

Please see if you are still able to reproduce this bug in your
environment, and if so please review the test case in the bug report
description and identify what additional step or configuration may be
missing.

Fair point, but question is if it's software cursor from Xserver's
perspective. NVidia driver might be blending the cursor in, while
"emulating HW cursor" on the Xorg's end, right?

[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-05-21 Thread James Page
As a side note - even if there is a bug here (and it sounds like there
might be) I would recommend placing the mon and mgr daemons in LXD
containers ontop of the machines hosting the osd's - this will allow you
to manage them independently from an upgrade process for both ceph
upgrades and ubuntu release upgrades.

[Bug 1874939] Re: ceph-osd can't connect after upgrade to focal

2020-05-21 Thread James Page
OK further fact discovery from my testing.

I have a 6 machine cluster deployed - three machines host mon,mgr and
three machines host osd.

Upgrading the mon,mgr cluster first followed by the three osd machine
using do-release-upgrade and allowing the tool to reboot the machine at
the end resulted in an upgraded and functioning cluster.

I also validated that the process of upgrading the packages does not
stop or restart the daemons - so they will run on the 14.2.x series from
eoan until either they are restarted OR the do-release-upgrade tool is
permitted to reboot the box.

I appreciate that the reporters of this bug are deploying all daemons on
all three machines which is different to what I have tested - I'll look
at that next.

However it should be possible to complete the do-release-upgrade to the
point of requesting a reboot - don't - drop to the CLI and get all
machines to this point and then:

restart the mons across all three machines
restart the mgrs across all three machines
restart the osds across all three machines

validating health between each step. I'm going to test this now.

This is inline with the upstream documented process for upgrading a ceph
cluster:

 https://docs.ceph.com/docs/master/releases/octopus/#upgrading-from-
mimic-or-nautilus

After this has been completed a reboot of each machine will be required
to complete the release upgrade.

[Bug 1870512] Re: forced software cursor with PageFlip enabled triggers artifacts on screen

2020-05-21 Thread Aleksander Miera
A recording would preferably be better, a screenshot might not give the
full picture. Anyway, sure, I shall post it. The case I'm describing is
more extreme, the squares are way bigger and flickering constantly, most
of the time effectively preventing usage of the machine, such messy it
gets.

Plus, is the other user also using SW cursor? In the case described here
it's related purely to that.

By the way this bug, like the previous copy/paste issues, is specific to

reproduce this bug there, either using Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V or the Copy/Paste

[Bug 1875299] Re: Apache's mod_remoteip: IP address spoofing via X-Forwarded-For when mod_rewrite rule is triggered

2020-05-21 Thread Alex Murray
If you feel this is a real security vulnerability which has not received
a CVE, you could try discuss with the apache developers and once a CVE
has been assigned the Ubuntu Security team can fix it via a security
update for Apache. Otherwise, this could be addressed via the Stable
Release Update (SRU) process otherwise -

One more thing - I expect your phone has USB Tethering enabled - and so
presents itself as an rndis USB/ethernet device - and then network
manager uses this as a preferred interface to route traffic through
rather than the wireless interface.

[Bug 1879211] Re: Charging my cellphone through usb breaks internet connection.

2020-05-21 Thread Alex Murray
This doesn't seem like a security issue to me - I believe this is the
default behaviour when using network manager for tethering - it will
route traffic via the tethered device. I am reassigning this against
network-manager which is likely doing the route setup.

[Bug 1879095] Re: Thunar can open LUKS device in spite of "Forget Password immediately"

2020-05-21 Thread Alex Murray
Once a LUKS device is unlocked it is accessible without the password -
so I think what is happening is that you are unlocking the device via
Thunar and then it remains unlocked, so even though Thunar has forgotten
the password, it does not need it to access the device anymore. You need
to relock the LUKS device then to prevent further access. This seems
more like a UX issue where it is not clear what the expectation may be
for the user rather than a security issue.

[Bug 1879968] Re: copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice on mutter 3.36.2

2020-05-21 Thread Adam Dingle
Davide, that's a very interesting discovery that every other copy/paste
fails when you use the menu caommands. I see that on my machine too.
Hopefully that will make it easier to debug the problem, since it is a
much more direct way to reproduce the problematic behavior.

(On the other hand, there is no guarantee that this copy/paste failure
with menu commands is actually the same bug as the occasional copy/paste
failures when you use keyboard shortcuts, since the observed behavior is
pretty different.)

[Bug 1879967]

2020-05-21 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Your bug report is more likely to get attention if it is made in
English, since this is the language understood by the majority of Ubuntu
developers. Additionally, please only mark a bug as "security" if it
shows evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries or to
directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any
other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1879339] Re: test_310_config_security_perf_events_restrict / test_400_refcount_config in ubuntu_qrt_kernel_security failed on F-OEM-5.6

2020-05-21 Thread Timo Aaltonen
does this upstream change replace the sauce patch?

commit da97e18458fb42d7c00fac5fd1c56a3896ec666e
Author: Joel Fernandes (Google)
Date: Mon Oct 14 13:03:08 2019 -0400

perf_event: Add support for LSM and SELinux checks

In current mainline, the degree of access to perf_event_open(2) system
call depends on the perf_event_paranoid sysctl. This has a number of
limitations:

1. The sysctl is only a single value. Many types of accesses are controlled
based on the single value thus making the control very limited and
   coarse grained.
2. The sysctl is global, so if the sysctl is changed, then that means
all processes get access to perf_event_open(2) opening the door to
   security issues.

This patch adds LSM and SELinux access checking which will be used in
Android to access perf_event_open(2) for the purposes of attaching BPF
programs to tracepoints, perf profiling and other operations from
userspace. These operations are intended for production systems.

5 new LSM hooks are added:
1. perf_event_open: This controls access during the perf_event_open(2)
syscall itself. The hook is called from all the places that the
perf_event_paranoid sysctl is checked to keep it consistent with the
systctl. The hook gets passed a 'type' argument which controls CPU,
kernel and tracepoint accesses (in this context, CPU, kernel and
tracepoint have the same semantics as the perf_event_paranoid sysctl).
Additionally, I added an 'open' type which is similar to
perf_event_paranoid sysctl == 3 patch carried in Android and several
other
distros but was rejected in mainline [1] in 2016.

2. perf_event_alloc: This allocates a new security object for the event
which stores the current SID within the event. It will be useful when
the perf event's FD is passed through IPC to another process which may
try to read the FD. Appropriate security checks will limit access.

3. perf_event_free: Called when the event is closed.

4. perf_event_read: Called from the read(2) and mmap(2) syscalls for the
event.

5. perf_event_write: Called from the ioctl(2) syscalls for the event.

[1] https://lwn.net/Articles/696240/

Since Peter had suggest LSM hooks in 2016 [1], I am adding his
Suggested-by tag below.

To use this patch, we set the perf_event_paranoid sysctl to -1 and then
apply selinux checking as appropriate (default deny everything, and then
add policy rules to give access to domains that need it). In the future
we can remove the perf_event_paranoid sysctl altogether.

[Bug 1879485] Re: Automated Install does not set default user data

I think the mistake in subiquity is that subiquity generates this in the

but cloud-init looks for "lock_passwd". But now I don't understand how
this ever works, i.e. why all users created by subiquity do not get

[Bug 1865988] Re: Performing function level reset of AMD onboard USB and audio devices causes system lockup

2020-05-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
@Marcos,

I think it would be a wonderful experience if you already hold the
chance to submit a patch to Ubuntu kernel yourself.

You may try following steps to send your patch:

1. `git clone -o focal https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/focal`

2. `git checkout focal/master-next`

3. `git cherry-pick -s -x efaa35873d66`

Here you also need to edit your cherry-pick line to append the origin
since it's not already in mainline: "(cherry picked from commit
efaa35873d66bf4a4903f757333692766e34e448 helgaas/pci
pci/virtualization)"

4. `git format-patch --cover-letter HEAD^`

5. Follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template
to fill the body in the cover letter,

6. Add a BugLink line to both cover letter and the patch

7. Update subject to include tags "[SRU][Focal]" in both cover letter
and the patch

8. Send them as a thread to kernel-t...@lists.ubuntu.com

[Bug 1878147] Re: Realtek 8723DE [10ec:d723] subsystem [10ec:d738] disconnects unsolicitedly when Bluetooth is paired: Reason: 23=IEEE8021X_FAILED

2020-05-21 Thread You-Sheng Yang
There are three patches in the aforementioned patchset 289291 in comment
#8:

  * rtw88: coex: 8723d: set antanna control owner
  * rtw88: coex: 8723d: handle BT inquiry cases
  * rtw88: fix EAPOL 4-way failure by finish IQK earlier

However, the last one conflicts with the solutions for bug 1871300 (from
https://github.com/rtlwifi-linux/rtw88_8723de/commit/49daf7d7256e3d774a1357f6800bfaae672b694d):

  * rtw88: No retry and report for auth and assoc
  * rtw88: fix rate for a while after being connected
  * rtw88: Move driver IQK to set channel before association for 11N chip

Specifically the last one. I list three of them because they all belong
to the same bug.

So I've tried three things:

= 8< = 8< = 8< = 8< =
[Case 1]

  1. reverted all the three patches for bug 1871300,
  2. apply all the three patches from patchset 289291,

However, this breaks WLAN association, and bug 1871300 comes back. Let
alone the WiFi/BT co-existence issue to be solved here.

[Case 2]

  1. apply only the first two patches from patchset 289291.

This solution works for both bug 1871300 and this bug 1878147.

[Case 3]

  1. apply the patches to kvalo/wireless-drivers-next HEAD

This works for both bug 1871300 and bug 1878147, too. Reported to upstream
mailing list.
= 8< = 8< = 8< = 8< =

So far my plan is to take [Case 2] as the solution for this bug, and
leave the third patch for follow-ups to retire previous, originalted-
from-github-rather-than-mainline-kernel fixes. Waiting for the
confirmation.

[Bug 1879665] Re: Xorg freeze - Cursor flicker

2020-05-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yeah the extensions panel in gnome-tweaks is broken (bug 1718850).

Please try using 'gnome-shell-extension-prefs' instead. Now disable all
non-Ubuntu extensions, and reboot. Does the problem still happen?

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-21 Thread Derek Christenson
Jumping in to confirm that I, too, am experiencing this with my Yahoo
IMAP accounts on Evolution 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 running on Linux Mint
19.1. I love using Evolution when working on my Linux workstation, and
I hope it can be fixed. Google accounts still work normally.

Since Flatpak appears to have an older version, and others say that it
hasn't helped, or only did for a short time, I have not tried that.

[Bug 1879203] Re: combination Super + Space do not switch to another language

2020-05-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's in official updates now so run:

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade

and reboot.

Now make sure you're using the new version 3.36.2 by running:

  dpkg -s libmutter-6-0 | grep Version

Does this bug still happen after that?

If that was true then bug 1878194 would be a duplicate of this one
because this one is older.
