[Bug 1878749] Re: Kernel bug when running btrfs balance

2020-05-24 Thread Paillomams
The drive failing balance is not rootfs. It is a different multi device btrfs
volume (no RAID).
This is my main local server. I will try with 20.04 when the upgrade is
available.

rootfs as btrfs:
- format HDD to btrfs
- copy sdcard content to HDD
- update UUID and rootfstype in /boot/firmware/nobtcmd.txt
- /boot/firmware remains on sdcard
- update fstab
- reboot

[Bug 1848497] Re: virtio-balloon change breaks migration from qemu prior to 4.0

2020-05-24 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Sam,
Stein would atm be on "qemu - 1:3.1+dfsg-2ubuntu3.7~cloud0" and that matches
your versions as reported.

3.1 didn't have the particular bug that was discussed and fixed here as
it was only broken by a later commit [1] in qemu 4.0.

Therefore I'd ask you to file a new bug report for it.
Never the less I agree that the signature matches which is odd.

When you open the new bug please also (like this bug) open it against
qemu as well as "Ubuntu Cloud Archive" as I'm interested to hear if the
UCA Team has seen similar.

[Bug 1879231] Re: avahi-daemon label change break generated profiles

2020-05-24 Thread Paul Collins
** Summary changed:

- avahi dbus permissions for Ping method need updating
+ avahi-daemon label change break generated profiles

** Description changed:

  I've been working on snapping an app (shairport-sync) that uses Avahi.
  Currently on startup it's logging the following in the system logs, and
  is not showing up in avahi-browse:

  type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589774287.950:1675435): pid=1759 uid=102
  auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="DENIED"
  operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/"
  interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer" member="Ping" mask="send"
  name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3965241 label="snap.shairport-sync
  .shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon"
  exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?'
-
- I see the following in avahi_observe.go:
-
- dbus (receive)
- bus=system
- path=/
- interface=org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer
- member=Ping
- peer=(label=###PLUG_SECURITY_TAGS###),
-
- Other rules seem to be of this form:
-
- peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Avahi,label=###SLOT_SECURITY_TAGS###),
-
- and as you can see above the denied message has
- name="org.freedesktop.Avahi".

  As an experiment I reinstalled my snap in devmode and got the following:

  type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589775249.321:1676149): pid=1759 uid=102
  auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="ALLOWED"
  operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/"
  interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Peer" member="Ping" mask="send"
  name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3988011 label="snap.shairport-sync
  .shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-daemon"
  exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=? terminal=?'

  followed by lots of other happy-looking messages, e.g.:

  type=USER_AVC msg=audit(1589775249.321:1676150): pid=1759 uid=102
  auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='apparmor="ALLOWED"
  operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="system" path="/"
  interface="org.freedesktop.Avahi.Server" member="GetAPIVersion"
  mask="send" name="org.freedesktop.Avahi" pid=3988011 label="snap
  .shairport-sync.shairport-sync" peer_pid=2184133 peer_label="avahi-
  daemon"  exe="/usr/bin/dbus-daemon" sauid=102 hostname=? addr=?
  terminal=?'

  and my machine appeared in avahi-browse and was visible to my other mDNS
- devices.
+ devices. So the problem seems to be solely due to confinement.

- Given all this I suspect the rule for Ping above is too restrictive and
- should be loosened to allow the denied message above.
+ In fact, the generated profile has the following:

- For reference, here's the full devmode trace:
- https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/PmMNQF3S3g/
+ peer=(name=org.freedesktop.Avahi,label="{unconfined,/usr/sbin/avahi-
+ daemon}"),

- [agnew(~)] snap version
- snap2.44.3+20.04
- snapd   2.44.3+20.04
- series  16
- ubuntu  20.04
- kernel  5.4.0-21-generic
- [agnew(~)] _
+ but the denials have the following:
+
+ peer_label="avahi-daemon"
+
+ so I suspect the avahi-daemon labelling has changed in Ubuntu (I'm
+ running 20.04 LTS).

[Bug 1878166] Re: gnome-shell freezes randomly on nouveau and wayland

2020-05-24 Thread Martin Vysny
It was a different time, so maybe they're unrelated as you say.

Because the sound continues to play, I suspect that it's just the
graphics stack that freezes. To verify this assumption I've installed
openssh-server on the laptop; if the freeze occurs again, I'll ssh into
the machine and I may be able to gather useful debugging info.

[Bug 1874698] Re: [OMEN by HP Laptop 15-dh0xxx, Realtek ALC285, Black Mic, Left] Recording problem

2020-05-24 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

+ This is for linux kernel:
+
+ The patch is already in the oem-5.6 kernel and unstable kernel, so only
+ sent the SRU for focal
+
+ [Impact]
+ On the machines without Intel HDMI, the sof driver will fail to initialize.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Intel upstream 2 patches in the kernel to fix it.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Boot the kernel on the machines without Intel HDMI audio, everything
+ works well including the audio.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ Low, these 2 patches are already in the mainline kernel.
+
+
+
  On Ubuntu 20.04, by default, sof-audio-pci is used. I only have "Dummy
  output" in pavucontrol. To fix this, I modified /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
  base.conf and added "options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1" so that now
  "snd-hda-intel" is loaded instead of sof-audio-pci. While the speakers
  are working fine, I do not have the internal microphone working (suspect
  a digital array).

[Bug 1879377] Re: network-manager-fortisslvpn not working but openfortivpn does

2020-05-24 Thread Kolmar Kafran
This is a critical bug with network-manager-fortisslvpn incompatibility
with openfortivpn >= 1.11.0. This package is useless right now. Ubuntu
needs to repackage it with a patch.

Before openfortipvn 1.11.0 the default configuration was equivalent to:
--set-dns=1 --pppd-use-peerdns=1
Starting with openfortivpn 1.11.0 the default configuration is equivalent to:
--set-dns=1 --pppd-use-peerdns=0
NetworkManager-fortisslvpn expects the configuration to be equivalent to:
--set-dns=0 --pppd-use-peerdns=1
This expectation breaks with openfortivpn 1.11.0 because
NetworkManager-fortisslvpn only passes this command line option:
--no-dns / --set-dns=0
Starting with openfortivpn 1.11.0 it needs to be:
--no-dns / --set-dns=0 --pppd-use-peerdns=1

There is already a patch. More information on:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/NetworkManager-
fortisslvpn/-/merge_requests/13

There is a patch on Fedora's package: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms
/NetworkManager-fortisslvpn/c/6378487

  -- original description --

  Summary:

  I have a dual-stack NIC with only an IPv6 SLAAC and link local address
plumbed. This is the designated provider network nic. When I create a network
and then a subnet, the linux bridge agent first disables IPv6 on the bridge and
then tries to add the IPv6 address from the NIC to the bridge. Since IPv6 was
disabled on the bridge, this fails with 'RTNETLINK answers: Permission denied'.
My intent was to create an IPv4 subnet over this interface with floating IPv4
addresses for assignment to VMs via this command:
    openstack subnet create --network provider \
  --allocation-pool start=10.54.204.200,end=10.54.204.217 \
  --dns-nameserver 69.252.80.80 --dns-nameserver 69.252.81.81 \
  --gateway 10.54.204.129 --subnet-range 10.54.204.128/25 provider

  I don't know why the agent is disabling IPv6 (I wish it wouldn't),
  that's probably the problem. However, if the agent knows to disable IPv6
  it should also know not to try to add an IPv6 address.

[Bug 1880493] [NEW] [[CLX] RDT MBA min/max control

2020-05-24 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

Description:
CPX, SNR and ICX support MBA_CFG MSR 0xC84. Bit0 defines whether two threads
sharing a core with different MBM constraints.

MSR is model specific (becomes architectural in SPR). So need
family/model/stepping checks.

0: pick the MAX of the delay values
1: pick the MIN of the delay values

Linux needs a file in resctrl file system to allow user to pick desired
behavior.

Unclear from docs seen so far whether this MSR is scoped per core or per
package. But probably just want to provide a system-wide MIN vs. MAX
choice.

[Bug 1880426] Re: Intel Wireless-AC 8260 [8086:24f3] Subsystem [8086:1010] - iwlwifi Microcode SW error detected

2020-05-24 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Looks like a duplicate of bug 1830192, but it's not. TX A-MSDU was not
enabled previously on 4.15.

And, no, it's not a duplicate of
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204167, either. This one
shows no sign of that at all.

So far I cannot reproduce this with a 8260 chip locally against reported
4.15.0-101-generic connecting to an either 5G or 2.4G WLAN, with or
without backport-iwlwifi-dkms installed, even under some stress
enable/disable tests.

Could you try install backport-iwlwifi-dkms on your system? Or do you
have some more deterministic way to reproduce it?

  $ sudo apt update && sudo apt install backport-iwlwifi-dkms

[Bug 1876055] Re: SRU: Backport 2.4.3-1ubuntu2 from groovy to focal/eoan/bionic/xenial for newer syscalls for core20 base

2020-05-24 Thread Alex Murray
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

- snap-confine from snapd uses libseccomp to filter various system calls
- for confinement. The current version in eoan/bionic/xenial (2.4.1) is
- missing knowledge of various system calls for various architectures. As
- such this causes strange issues like python snaps segfaulting
+ The combination of snap-confine and snap-seccomp from snapd uses
+ libseccomp to filter various system calls for confinement. The current
+ version in eoan/bionic/xenial (2.4.1) is missing knowledge of various
+ system calls for various architectures. As such this causes strange
+ issues like python snaps segfaulting
  (https://github.com/snapcore/core20/issues/48) or the inadvertent denial
  of system calls which should be permitted by the base policy
  (https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/getrlimit-blocked-by-seccomp-on-focal-
  arm64/17237).

  libseccomp in groovy is using the latest upstream base release (2.4.3)
  plus it includes a patch to add some missing aarch64 system calls
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libseccomp/+bug/1877633).

  SRUing this version back to older stable releases allows libseccomp to
  operate correctly on all supported architectures.
+
+
+ Included as part of this SRU are test-suite reliability improvements -
currently the xenial libseccomp package overrides test-suite failures at build
time to ignore failures. This masks the fact that on ppc64el and s390x there
are currently test suite failures at build time for xenial - these failures
occur since libseccomp now includes knowledge of system calls for these
architectures but which the linux-libc-dev package for xenial does not actually
define (since this is based of the 4.4 kernel in xenial whereas libseccomp
2.4.1 in xenial has knowledge of all system calls up to 5.4).
+
+ In this SRU I have instead fixed the test suite failures for xenial by
+ including a local (test-suite specific) set of architecture specific
+ kernel headers from the linux-libc-dev in focal for all releases. These
+ are just the headers which define the system call numbers for each
+ architecture *and* these are added to tests/include/$ARCH in the source
+ package (and tests/Makefile.am is then updated to include these new
+ headers only). As such this ensures the actual build of libseccomp or
+ any of the tools does not reference these headers. This allows the test
+ suite in libseccomp to then be aware of theses system calls and so all
+ unit tests for all architectures now pass.
+
+ In any future updates for libseccomp to add new system calls, we can
+ then similarly update these local headers to ensure the unit tests
+ continue to work as expected.

  [Test Case]

  libseccomp includes a significant unit test suite that is run during the
  build and as part of autopkgtests. To verify the new aarch64 system
  calls are resolved as expected the scmp_sys_resolver command can be used
  as well:

  $ scmp_sys_resolver -a aarch64 getrlimit
  163

  (whereas in the current version in focal this returns -10180 as
  libseccomp was not aware of this system-call at compile-time).

  As part of this SRU, the test suite in libseccomp has been patched to
  include a local copy of the architecture-specific kernel headers from
  the 5.4 kernel in focal *for all releases*, so that all system calls
  which are defined for the 5.4 kernel are known about *for the libseccomp
  test suite*. This allows all unit tests to pass on older releases as
  well and defaults the build to fail on unit test failures (whereas
  currently in xenial this has been overridden to ignore failures).

  [Regression Potential]

  This has a low regression potential due to significant testing with many
  packages that depend on libseccomp (lxc, qemu, snapd, apt, man etc) and
- none have shown any regression using this new version.
+ none have shown any regression using this new version. The re-enablement
+ of build failure on test failure at build time also ensures that we can
+ reliably detect FTBFS issues in the future.
+
+ No symbols have been removed (or added) with this update in version so
+ there is no chance of regression due to ABI change etc. In the past, the
+ security team has performed more significant version upgrades for
+ libseccomp (2.2, 2.3, 2.4) -> 2.4.1 without major incident. In the case
+ of *this* SRU, we are only doing a micro-version upgrade from 2.4.1 to
+ 2.4.3 so this carries even less change of regressions.

  Any possible regressions may include applications now seeing correct
  system call resolution whereas previously this would have failed, and so
  perhaps previous failures (which were erroneous) will now be permitted.
  However, this was always permitted previously by the policy anyway but
  just denied due to this bug so it is not a true regression as such.
+
+
+ I have prepared these updates in the ubuntu-security-proposed PPA - could the
SRU team could please review these in lieu of

- openstack subnet create --network provider \
- --allocation-pool start=10.54.204.200,end=10.54.204.217 \
- --dns-nameserver 69.252.80.80 --dns-nameserver 69.252.81.81 \
- --gateway 10.54.204.129 --subnet-range 10.54.204.128/25 provider
+   openstack subnet create --network provider \
+ --allocation-pool start=10.54.204.200,end=10.54.204.217 \
+ --dns-nameserver 69.252.80.80 --dns-nameserver 69.252.81.81 \
+ --gateway 10.54.204.129 --subnet-range 10.54.204.128/25 provider

  I don't know why the agent is disabling IPv6 (I wish it wouldn't),
  that's probably the problem. However, if the agent knows to disable IPv6
  it should also know not to try to add an IPv6 address.

[Bug 1813441] Re: Can no longer drag and drop files between desktop and applications

2020-05-24 Thread Carlos García
Confirmed, happening to me as well in Ubuntu 20.04... I cannot
understand why you think the importance of this is "Low" or
"Wishlist"... It looks to me quite serious, the desktop is used every
day and most people are used to this functionality, which is uniform
across the system... but not in the desktop now.

It makes ubuntu look quite bad, really.
