[Bug 1882631] Re: Xorg crash

2020-06-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2020-06-08 Thread Rajesh Chaudhary
I think the issue persisted a week ago. I tried to research the solution
but couldn't find much.

Before that, my laptop battery was working fine. Even the battery has
lasted for 4-5 hours. But now, it's not behaving as expected. After a
full charge, it takes less than an hour to drop the battery percentage
(nearly 45%) and then suddenly to 5% giving notification that "The
laptop will be hibernated".

I don't know whether it's the problem of my battery or a charging
adapter. I've also attached the screencast showing my power statistics.

The videos show blinking of the indicator as well as a change of percentage(%)
in App Indicators.
When the blinking stops, it means that the charge is 100% full and vice-versa.

Hoping to get a quick response from you back soon.
Thanks.

[Bug 1882626] [NEW] libceres-dev Focal arm64 build failing with failed test

2020-06-08 Thread Emerson Knapp
Public bug reported:

Trying to install libceres-dev after upgrading system from Bionic to
Focal, but the arm64 build is failing

I have also reported here https://github.com/ceres-solver/ceres-
solver/issues/599 - but not sure which is more appropriate (I don't know
if that GitHub project maintains the debian packaging builds)

It appears to be a single test failure that blocks the build

[Bug 1577948] Re: unmatched entries for apparmor STATUS messages

2020-06-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
Yes, on focal I see the same. Since it's kernel, won't see these in an
lxc container, but on bare metal or maybe a vm they add lots of noise.

For Logwatch's purposes, all the apparmor="STATUS" messages should be
filtered, as they're just informative.

(I suspect many of the apparmor="DENIED" messages relating to snaps and
lxc could also be filtered, as they're by definition permission-limited
zones, however they're unrelated to this bug.)

** Summary changed:

- unmatched entries for apparmor

[Bug 1578001] Re: unmatched entries for isc-dhcp-server

2020-06-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
These appear to just be informational warnings about DHCP renewals, it
sounds like they may be seen with some DHCP configurations, but are not
necessarily an indication of an actual problem. Logwatch should
probably just filter them.

The debian link (below) has the concise explanation of this warning:

>> What is this 'reuse-lease' all about?
>
> Your DHCP client renews the leased IP although the lease time is not
> expired. Not relevant to this problem.
>
>> Any suggestions, please?
>
> Clear your DHCP lease file on DHCP server. Bounce the thing by doing:
>
> $ systemctl stop isc-dhcp-server
> rm /var/lib/dhcpd/dhcpd.leases
> $ systemctl start isc-dhcp-server
>
> Make sure that the client is disconnected before doing the above.

[Bug 1881675] Re: Intel Wireless 8260 [8086:24f3] Subsystem [8086:0010] iwlwifi Microcode SW Error ubuntu 20.04

2020-06-08 Thread You-Sheng Yang
I have one 8260 card with exactly the same PCI ID and subsystem ID.
However, I cannot reproduce this with 5.4.0-31 kernel, linux-firmware
1.187 (same) after idle for three days.

Please try latest mainline kernel from https://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/, so that we can first clarify if this issue is
still also open even for mainline kernel. And/or, if you can find a way
to raise the failure rate and make it more easily reproducible, it will
be very helpful.

[Bug 1854362] Re: [MIR] ceph-iscsi, tcmu, python-configshell-fb, python-rtslib-fb, urwid, targetcli-fb

2020-06-08 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed python-rtslib-fb 2.1.71-0ubuntu1 as checked into focal. This
shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

python-rtslib-fb is a programmatic interface to the Linux kernel's LIO
target. Working with Python objects causes writes to the kernel's
/sys/kernel/config/target interface.

It also provides an executable to save the live config to a file on
service shutdown, and load the config into the running kernel on service
start.

- No CVEs in our database; when I reported a low severity problem, a fix
  was committed 13 hours later.
- Build-Depends?
  - debhelper-compat (= 9),, dh-python, openstack-pkg-tools (>= 99~),
python3-all, python3-setuptools, python3-six
- pre/post inst/rm scripts?
  - postrm script improperly removes the alternatives entry against
policy -- it should be called from prerm instead:

https://lintian.debian.org/tags/maintainer-script-should-not-use-update-alternatives-remove.html
  - py3compile command isn't guarded with || true; -- is this correct?
- init scripts?
  - initscript has multiple shellcheck warnings
  - race condition combined with busy-wait "sleep"
- systemd units?
  - Creates directory with ExecStart=mkdir -p rather than
ConfigurationDirectory= directive
- No dbus config
- No setuid executables
- new binary targetctl in PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No polkit rules
- No udev rules
- Very small number of tests -- as doctests -- and I can't tell if they
run during the build or not
- No cron jobs
- Lintian warnings and errors reported

- Spawns a subprocess to perform module loading -- the subprocess itself
looks fine, but the module loading feels out of place. There is probably
a better way to do this.
- File IO is used extensively; some small helper functions are written to
make it look easy. The tool works extensively in a virtual filesystem
  meant to configure things.
- Very little logging
- No environment variable use
- While this performs privileged operations, it mostly does so via read
and write -- and the "modprobe" Popen.
- No cryptography
- No temp files
- No networking
- No webkit
- No policykit

While reading the code I found a low-severity issue and reported it:
https://github.com/open-iscsi/rtslib-fb/issues/161
Upstream checked in a fix in 13 hours.

The systemd unit file uses an explicit mkdir call rather than using a
declarative setting.

The postrm/prerm scripts needs work.

Security team ACK for promoting python-rtslib-fb to main. I'd like the
security fix and the packaging issues fixed before this package is
promoted.

Thanks

[Bug 1878275] Re: [qxl] wayland session hard freezes on login from GDM (X11 session works fine)

2020-06-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Those both show gnome-shell is idle and not frozen in any
obvious way. So that gives me two ideas:

  * I wonder if this is one of those rare cases where it's starting on
the wrong VT. Please try: Ctrl+Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+F2 etc and see if you
can find the missing session when it appears to freeze.

  * I wonder if the 'qxl' kernel graphics driver is failing to report
(virtual) presentation events with correct timestamps. That would cause
the apparently idle symptoms we are seeing and is also a bug we've seen
in the VMware kernel driver (fixed a long time ago).

@Frederick, At least we have to fix this situation so that you'll be
able to install/upgrade packages, and certainly you need that linux-
modules-extra package for iwlwifi driver. So probably there is something
wrong to the file permssions/mount path/file system ... etc., or most
likely, do you have some kind of antivirus program, e.g. Sophos
Antivirus, installed? If so, could you disable it temporarily by:

  $ sudo savdctl disable
  $ sudo apt-get install -f

And to reenable it after it's done:

  $ sudo savdctl enable
