[Bug 1873083] Re: Lenovo Yoga C940 frequently does thermal shutdown

2020-06-17 Thread Carolos
After upgrading to 5.6.0-1011-oem it seems sound is back without the
alsa change above.

This will take you away from the 5.4 kernel shipped by default on ubuntu
- use at your own risk.

You will have to periodically check for and install newer versions on
your own after installing this.

sudo apt install linux-image-5.6.0-1011-oem

[Bug 1872281] Re: collectd python plugin not working

2020-06-17 Thread Mike Battersby
I have this problem as well.

You can work around it by adding the following line to
/etc/default/collectd

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/python3.8/config-3.8-x86_64-linux-
gnu/libpython3.8.so

this will force it to load the python shared library.

[Bug 827695]

2020-06-17 Thread Dante19031999
Hello,
This comment is going to be post on the bugs: bug 32362 bug 133081 bug 92373
bug 127483
All those bugs seem to be related.
In my humble opinion as begginer programmer they seem to be related with a
disfunction with OpenGL in windows.
Tested on linux (LO 6.4), no problem.
Tested with beta 7 on windows, no problem (does not use OpenGL any more).
So the bug happened to correct by itself.
So I suggest marking as duplicated bug 32362 bug 133081 bug 127483 and close
them all.

@dante19031999 this is NOT an OpenGL or OS related problem. Indeed, this
problem predates the whole introduction of OpenGL support into the
suite.

Insert a Math object into Writer and type this code

left[ stack{1#2#3#4#5#6#7#8} right]

you'll immediately see how wrong square brackets are, independently of
OpenGL, OS or anything: just print or export to PDF to see that's NOT a
display problem, but something deeper.

Either misunderstood completely or cannot confirm:
With LibO 7.0.0.0.beta1 under Win 10 I got exactly the behavior previously
described independent of whether 'skia' was enabled or not.

[Bug 1175882]

2020-06-17 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
A lot has changed since I originally submitted this bug report.

That page no longer contains PNG images, and it seems that LibreOffice Writer
doesn't support the new webp standard images that the page contains. Read about
webp here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebP

Additionally, I'm now using Kubuntu 20.04, which is less likely to lock
up when a single applications has a problem.

I created a png version of the page again, so that I could test this in Kubuntu
20.04. I don't want to post a hyperlink of that page here, because I don't want
google to index it. To get to the png version of the page, add "png/" onto the
end of this URL:
http://www.amorosity.com/SlingBlade/

>From there, you can test this yourself by following steps 2 and 3 given
at the top of this report.

In Kubuntu 20.04, LibreOffice Writer does a poor job at scaling the png
images (that the page contains), but it doesn't crash in Kubuntu 20.04.

I can no longer speak for GNOME 3, but you can easily test it yourself
from the png version of the page that I made exclusively for this bug
report.

I totally agree on that, the main problem is the SVG Rasterizer (I guess
that's the same as a SVG Renderer?). But there are plenty of free
OpenSource SVG Renderers out there: Inkscape, Chromium, Firefox aso...
all support SVG Rendering. Isn't it possible to use the code of those,
if the LibO renderer is so hard to fix?

I know its easy to talk like that when you are not a developer, so just
my two cents on that ;)

[Bug 1738774]

2020-06-17 Thread Nate-b
In general I think people with high DPI screens would prefer to use SVG
icons and live with or report a small number of bugs with a small number
of mid-rendered icons then live with 100% of all icons being pixelated
and ugly. Perhaps making the SVG renderer default only for high DPi
users of SVG-compatible icon themes would make everyone happy: high DPI
users get nicer icons overall, while devs get more user eyeballs (and
bug reports, and potential contributors) using the SVG renderer.

FWIW all the icons look flawless to me with the Breeze SVG icon theme
and a global 250% scale scale factor

[Bug 1881828] Re: Lenovo X1 Extreme screen never wakes up

2020-06-17 Thread Kelly Kane
I've been testing various previous releases of Linux from the mainline
repo. 5.6.2 still fails, 5.6.18 works fine. 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 both have
busted wifi so I didn't test them beyond realizing my wifi didn't work.

Looking through the CHANGES files I see 5.6.6 and 5.6.7 both reference
nouveau changes, with 5.6.7 actually saying "work around hang on init"
which seems promising. I will try those kernels next and see what works
or doesn't work.

[Bug 1872541] Re: MySQL client fails to connect, seems to force SSL

2020-06-17 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
@qlands, for those type of cases, can't you do something like:

OPENSSL_CONF= binary

to those binaries linked to libssl 1.1.1f- ?

Example:

$ openssl ciphers -tls1 -s

but...

$ OPENSSL_CONF=~/.openssl.cnf openssl ciphers -tls1 -s

ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-SHA:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA:DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA:ECDHE-
ECDSA-AES128-SHA:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA:DHE-RSA-
AES128-SHA:AES256-SHA:AES128-SHA

if I have:

$ cat ~/.openssl.cnf

openssl_conf = default_conf

[ default_conf ]

ssl_conf = ssl_sect

[ssl_sect]

system_default = ssl_default_sect

[ssl_default_sect]
MinProtocol = TLSv1
MaxProtocol = None
CipherString = DEFAULT:@SECLEVEL=1

[Bug 1874217] Re: [nvidia] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause tiled windows to occupy 1.5 monitors

I will eventually figure out a hardware configuration to work on this.
Though last time I did I kept hitting bug 1874567 instead, so that might
come first...

Once I am able to reproduce this bug my next priority will be to figure
out if it is another one caused by x11-Add-support-for-fractional-

[Bug 1884008] [NEW] network manager prefers further away AP when there are multiple APs

2020-06-17 Thread Remi Bernotavicius
Public bug reported:

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04. My Wifi set-up has multiple access points
throughout my home, and they all have the same SSID. It doesn't matter
where I am in my home though, network manager always connects to one
particular AP. If I list all the access points with `nmcli dev wifi
list` I can see that it even picks that one access point if it is the
farthest away one:

76:83:C2:BB:34:2A  --  Infra  36405 Mbit/s
97  ▂▄▆█  WPA2
74:83:C2:BB:34:2A  my_access_point Infra  36405 Mbit/s
95  ▂▄▆█  WPA2
74:83:C2:BA:34:2A  my_access_point Infra  1 195 Mbit/s
94  ▂▄▆█  WPA2
76:83:C2:BA:34:2A  --  Infra  1 195 Mbit/s
94  ▂▄▆█  WPA2
B6:FB:E4:45:CA:82  --  Infra  157   405 Mbit/s
44  ▂▄__  WPA2
*   B4:FB:E4:45:CA:82  my_access_point Infra  157   405 Mbit/s
44  ▂▄__  WPA2
B6:FB:E4:44:CA:82  --  Infra  11195 Mbit/s
42  ▂▄__  WPA2
B4:FB:E4:44:CA:82  my_access_point Infra  11195 Mbit/s
40  ▂▄__  WPA2

It is true that if I change the BSSID field in the wifi settings I can
get it to connect to a particular one, but that is not sufficient. I
have a laptop, and if I move around my home I need it to connect to the
closest one, and switching manually to whichever one is closest is not
practical.

I can't even create multiple entries for each BSSID in the list of
networks, if I try many different networks appear with the same name and
random numbers and I can't even label them.

This is network manager version 1.22.10-1ubuntu2.1

[Bug 1880728] Re: [amdgpu] Gnome Shell freeze

2020-06-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oh those are much better links, thanks. There you have:

Bug 1877075: A fix for 20.04 is on the way (you will need libmutter
version 3.36.3).

Bug 1843982: A fix for 20.04 was released to updates yesterday.

Bug 1878775: Not sure but maybe fixed with bug 1843982 yesterday?

But that doesn't help us to choose a single issue for this bug to be
about. I guess this bug doesn't need to stay open unless we can identify
some new issue that doesn't already have a bug ID. Please continue
reporting your crashes here so we can find some pattern.

I actually just uninstalled teamviewer to see if that resolves anything. I
am going to be using a different program called anydesk for right now.

2020-06-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please attach a photo of the problem, but also...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

I am starting to suspect (from other bug reports too) that systems with
the Nvidia driver in particular degrade over time. That might be a
graphics resource leak which would be Mutter's fault.

[Bug 1884003] [NEW] [MIR] libjcat

2020-06-17 Thread Mario Limonciello
Public bug reported:

[Availability]
Available in Ubuntu universe for Focal and Groovy.
Synced from Debian unstable.

[Rationale]
fwupd 1.4.x and later have removed GPG and PKCS7 functionality in favor of the
functionality being provided by the library "libjcat". This library adds
additional features and a new file format that can encaspulate content and
signatures together.

Right now Ubuntu is limited in advancing to the 1.4.x or 1.5.x releases
until libjcat is available in main.

[Security]
The recently released CVE-2020-10759 affected libjcat.
No other CVE's have been released.

[Quality assurance]
* No configuration necessary.
* No debconf questions
* No long outstanding bugs
* No bugs open in Debian or Ubuntu.
* Upstream only has feature request bugs.
* Test suite is part of packaging
* Doesn't rely upon demoted packages

[Dependencies]
All dependencies for the library package are in main.

[Standards compliance]
Adheres to major Debian standards.

[Maintenance]
Maintained by debian-efi team in Debian.
Propose to be maintained by foundations team in Ubuntu.
In general, plan to sync from Debian however.

[Background information]
Fwupd 1.4.0 split out the GPG/PKCS7 handling to this separate library to
support a change in how the client would interact with the LVFS backend. This
change fixes race conditions that clients can encounter when metadata and
detached signatures are momentarily out of sync on LVFS CDN during the signing
process.

[Bug 1880728] Re: [amdgpu] Gnome Shell freeze

2020-06-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The crash in comment #9 is

  /opt/teamviewer/tv_bin/TeamViewer_Desktop

While that doesn't appear to be a supported component of Ubuntu, if that
is the main crash you experience then it would account for this bug. But
still, we can't help with crashes of TeamViewer itself. So let's ignore
any crashes in TeamViewer binaries here. We're only interested in
crashes of 'gnome-shell' or 'Xorg'. Because those are provided by
Ubuntu.

Please continue repeating the steps from comment #2 as we still need to
figure out the signature of a recurring problem in gnome-shell, if any.

You also seem to have the extension 'dash-to-dock' loaded so please try
removing that.

Computer -> Thunderbolt (USBC) Cable -> Caldigit Thunderbolt Hub ->
Thunderbolt-to-Displayport Cable -> Monitor.

Note: The Thunderbolt cable from the Caldigit hub is powered. I have a
keyboard, mouse, monitor etc all attached to the thunderbolt hub. So
there is just one cable connected to the laptop, which is nice.

If I wake my laptop, everything's fine for a few minutes, then
periodically the screen goes black for a second or two, then back to
display. This happens with increasing frequency. If I log out and log
back in, the problem is usually resolved. Sometimes I have to unplug and
replug the hub from my laptop.

I assume this is xorg-related because logging out and back in
effectively restarts X. But X might not be the problem, it might be
thunderbolt-related.

[Bug 1881982] Re: memory exhaustion in parse_report()

2020-06-17 Thread Seong-Joong Kim
Exploitation of this issue causes excessive memory consumption which results in
the Linux kernel triggering OOM killer on arbitrary process.
This results in the process being terminated by the OOM killer.

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-06-17 Thread Rod Rivers
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  Evolution and Claws email clients stopped connecting to Yahoo, AOL,
  Verizon, AT, Bell South, etc email servers which are run by the same
- group. Users are unable to get to their email.
+ group. Users are unable to get to their email.
+
+ The underlying problem is that GnuTLS does not support zero length
+ session tickets. The fix works by checking that that ticket_len > 0
+ prior to calling gnutls_realloc_fast().

  Nominating for SRU, fulfills: "Updates that need to be applied to Ubuntu
  packages to adjust to changes in the environment, server protocols, web
  services, and similar, i. e. where the current version just ceases to
  work."

+
  [testcase]

+ GnuTLS 3.6:
  $ gnutls-cli --priority=NORMAL:-VERS-TLS1.3 pop.verizon.net:995
  [...]
  - Status: The certificate is trusted.
  *** Fatal error: Internal error in memory allocation.

  the error should be fixed with the update

+ GnuTLS 3.5:
+ $ gnutls-cli pop.verizon.net:995
+
+ GnuTLS 3.4:
+ $ gnutls-cli -p 995 pop.verizon.net
+
+
  [regression potential]
- check that connecting to website in e.g epiphany and to email accounts in
evolution still work correctly
+
+ The fix works by checking that that ticket_len > 0 prior to calling
+ gnutls_realloc_fast(). This creates two separate execution paths:
+
+ 1) If the session ticket length > 0, which is the primary use case, the
+ original code block will be executed.
+
+ 2) If the session ticket len is 0, then the original code block will be
+ skipped.
+
+ Testing will need to include connections to servers that return session
+ ticket length > 0 as well as ones that return session ticket length of
+ 0. Wireshark can be used to look at the NewSessionTicket handshake
+ message to confirm the session ticket length.
+
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ The GnuTLS project's merge request 1260 fixes this bug. It was reviewed and
approved by Daiki Ueno:
+ https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/-/merge_requests/1260
+
+ According to the GnuTLS project: "We utilize two continuous integration
systems, the gitlab-ci and travis. Gitlab-CI is used to test most of the Linux
systems (see .gitlab-ci.yml), and is split in two phases, build image creation
and compilation/test. The build image creation is done at the
gnutls/build-images subproject and uploads the image at the gitlab.com
container registry. The compilation/test phase is on every commit to gnutls
project."
+ Here are the results of the gitlab-ci pipeline showing all 19 tests passed
for merge request 1260:
+ https://gitlab.com/rrivers2/gnutls/-/pipelines/149155018
+
+ Page 8, section 3.3 of RFC5077 describes the NewSessionTicket handshake
message and indicates that a zero length session ticket is a legitimate value:
+ https://tools.ietf.org/pdf/rfc5077.pdf

  --

+ When GnuTLS connects to servers that return zero length session tickets
+ using older TLS versions it returns the error code GNUTLS_E_MEMORY_ERROR
+ and the connection is closed. This prevents Evolution and Claws email
+ clients from connecting to Yahoo, AOL, Verizon, AT, Bell South, etc
+ email servers. Evolution displays the message "Error performing TLS
+ handshake: Internal error in memory allocation"

- When Evolution checks my verizon.net account it displays the message "Error
performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation" and doesn't
download any new email messages. This started happening two days ago shortly
after updates were applied. Normally it would download the new email messages.
 Searching the web I found a Linux Mint forum with users having the same issue.
 Some users felt it maybe an expired certificate while others thought it might
be related to the recent update. What can I do to get more information about
this issue?
