[Bug 1874075] Re: rabbitmq-server startup timeouts differ between SysV and systemd

2020-06-18 Thread Matthew Ruffell
@ddstreet asked me to take a look.

Step-by-step reproducer:

Set up a 2 node rabbitmq cluster using virtual machines.
Make the hostnames rabbitmq1 and rabbitmq2.
Add each host to /etc/hosts in each vm.

Create the cluster:

1) On both hosts: sudo apt install rabbitmq-server
2) On host 1, copy the string in /var/lib/rabbitmq/.erlang.cookie and place it
in /var/lib/rabbitmq/.erlang.cookie on host 2.
3) On host 2, restart the rabbitmq service: sudo systemctl restart
rabbitmq-server
4) On host 2, stop the server: sudo rabbitmqctl stop_app
5) On host 2: sudo rabbitmqctl reset
6) On host 2: sudo rabbitmqctl join_cluster rabbit@rabbitmq1
7) On host 2: sudo rabbitmqctl start_app
8) On host 1: sudo rabbitmqctl cluster_status

You should see both rabbit hosts in the cluster.

Set up the queues:

On host 1:

1) sudo rabbitmqctl add_user tester linux
2) sudo rabbitmqctl add_vhost tester
3) sudo rabbitmqctl set_permissions -p tester tester ".*" ".*" ".*"
4) sudo rabbitmqctl set_policy -p tester HA ".*" '{"ha-mode": "all"}'
5) sudo rabbitmqctl list_permissions -p tester
6) sudo rabbitmqctl list_policies -p tester

On VM host:

1) git clone https://github.com/nicolasbock/rabbitmq-test.git
2) virtualenv venv
3) . venv/bin/activate
4) pip install -r requirements.txt
5) python setup.py install
6) ./test-rabbit.py  --send 'message 1'
7) ./test-rabbit.py  --list

On host 1:

1) sudo rabbitmqctl list_queues -p tester name pid slave_pids
Listing queues
test_queue[]

In my case, rabbitmq1 is the primary owner of the queue denoted with <>,
with rabbitmq2 being a slave, denoted with [].

We want to shut down the primary host, so the slave gets promoted to
being primary.

Shut down rabbitmq1.

On host 2, confirm it has become primary with:

1) sudo rabbitmqctl list_queues -p tester name pid slave_pids
Listing queues
test_queue[]

Send a new message, to push the queue ahead of what rabbitmq1 currently
knows about.

On VM host:

1) ./test-rabbit.py  --send 'message 2'
2) ./test-rabbit.py  --list

Shut rabbitmq2 down, so all VMs are off.

Attempt to boot rabbitmq1 now. rabbitmq1 will assume it is behind, and
needs to wait for rabbitmq2 to come online before we continue. This is
where the issue occurs. Check the status of rabbitmq-server.service on
rabbitmq1.

1) sudo systemctl status rabbitmq-server.service

[Bug 1882279] Re: PHP built from source performs much better than the Ubuntu packaged version

2020-06-18 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
2 seconds in my old AMD (4.4 GHz) CPUs.. before and after local
compilation, with perf record getting samples at the same frequency.

(c)rafaeldtinoco@groovy:~$ sudo perf report --stdio

# Overhead Command Shared Object Symbol

#   ...  .
.
#
73.54%  php  php7.4 [.] php_base64_decode_ex
21.96%  php  php7.4 [.] php_base64_encode
 1.07%  php  php7.4 [.] execute_ex

and if you annotate it:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/Qb9rvT84MX/

you're basically expending almost 75% of the time in decoding base64:

https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/YFcqrqfZBm/

but there isn't a single bottleneck, suggesting overall optimizations at
compilation time, SPECIALLY if you judge the source code and generated
instructions (by disassembling php_base64_decode_ex).

A bit amount of time (from these 75%) is in between the branches from
line 274 <-> 264.. suggesting that lots of unknown chars are hitting
continue; (~10% of 75%). Another considerable source of time is the bit
shifts (~8% of the 75%).

next step here is *likely* doing a "perf diff" among the 2 different
reports and it will show the main deviations from the 2 executions..
then you will have to identify:

- is the compiler putting a diff subset of instructions (like SIMD for vectors,
usually using vectorization HW extensions/instructions - sse for x64 for
example)
- is the compiler just doing better loop generation for the decoding ? (usually
related to better intermediate code generation because of a specific flag)

etc...

this is the TODO here.

[Bug 1835968] Re: Regression in backported patch for openssl 1.1

2020-06-18 Thread Unit 193
Howdy,

After Ruby 2.7 entered Debian I re-ran the test, as far as I was aware
ruby-openssl didn't make a release in time for Ruby 2.7, and that seems
to have held true. I have much more recently tried pulling buffering.rb
(the specific file with the bug) from upstream's git, and it would
*appear*, unless my testing was off, that the bug has also been properly
fixed upstream as well, I suspect in this[0] commit.

[Bug 1310717] Re: process segfaults, hung task timeouts

2020-06-18 Thread Seth Arnold
I'm sorry, I can't recall that system very well at this point. "gmain"
is the generic name used by any application using glib's
g_get_worker_context() function to create worker threads. At this point
I can't even recall if I booted that system with X11 / lightdm or if I
had configured it to boot to multiuser only.

About the only thing I used that system for was tmux and irssi, neither
of which are using the thread name 'gmain' in Xenial, so they were
probably also not using the name in Saucy. So, it would have been
supplied by 'standard' system software, not something I chose to run
myself.

My pandaboard es killed SD cards pretty quickly, I came away with the
impression that SD cards are basically garbage not intended for 'real'
system use: segfaults and bus faults were the common symptom, and this
may have been a symptom of rubbish SD card too.

Thanks

[Bug 1884175] [NEW] [groovy] open-iscsi update to 2.1.1

2020-06-18 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

>From previous bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-iscsi/+bug/1877617

I saw the need to sync with upstream as both Ubuntu and Debian were
behind for sometime. I'm splitting that need in this bug. I worked with
upstream (Debian) at:

https://salsa.debian.org/linux-blocks-team/open-iscsi/-/merge_requests/3
https://salsa.debian.org/linux-blocks-team/open-iscsi/-/merge_requests/4
https://github.com/open-iscsi/open-iscsi/issues/208

and I think its finally good enough to be uploaded to experimental and
after maintainer's test to unstable.

The attachment 'ShellJournal.txt' seems to show this is a duplicate of
bug 1880405. But also, we find most high CPU issues are caused by
unsupported gnome-shell extensions and you have a few:

  'bettervol...@tudmotu.com'

so please try disabling those via gnome-shell-extension-prefs.

[Bug 1732807] Re: Ubuntu17.10/version:3.0.0-beta1: converting Flac to MP3: all tags are gone

2020-06-18 Thread Jay Viper
I appreciate the responses dev. But I am wondering why conversion to OGG
doesn't seem to be limited what the "tag_whitelist" settings while it is
limited in MP3.

I understand that the tag_whitelist can be edited but seems reasonable
to expect that common tags like track number/name, album and artist
would at least be automatically allowed.

[Bug 1884170] [NEW] Brasero checks wrong disk when checking for space

2020-06-18 Thread Adam Smith
Public bug reported:

I have a primary drive with not much free space, and a second drive
mounted that has a ton of space. Brasero keeps telling me that there's
no space, even though the image file I specified is on the disk with

It allowed a copy when I moved files to the other disk, but this is a
giant pain. When I specify that the image file goes on a disk with
space, it should permit its creation.

Thanks for the response - I do appreciate you're sticking with this bug.

Unfortunately the result is the same: no conversion of the same tags as
per attached. Since the year tag has never been converted in all tests
I've done, does it suggest the tags that are converted like artist,
track, album, length, genre, are being set somewhere else? Is it useful
to note the format change of the track tag from 1 to 1/10; where is that
being done?

[Bug 1875062] Re: [20.04] Keyboard layout not enabled immediately during installation when typing username/password

2020-06-18 Thread Jean-Do Veuve
This bug is a regression: with older version of Ubuntu, such as 18.04
LTS, during the install process, you get your selected keyboard layout
all along during the install process.

As I said before, this bug makes that, if you don't realize that the
keyboard layout fell to US, it might happen that at the place where you
choose your password, where the letters appears as "*", you use one or
more characters where US and your selected keyboard layouts differs
without realizing it. In that case, at the reboot (where your keyboard
selection is correctly activated), you will receive the message "invalid
password" on and on. If you don't realize where the bug is, it is
possible that you choose to reinstall Ubuntu again and again until you
choose a password where the 2 keyboard layout don't differ.

[Bug 1875062] Re: [20.04] Keyboard layout not enabled immediately during installation when typing username/password

2020-06-18 Thread Jean-Do Veuve
@xnox

Okay, I double check on base of your remarks and I got deeper in the
tests and eliminate the other bugs in this report. Thank you for helping
to reformulate and motivate me to goes on :-)

I am more precise now and I think I may say it is exactly the same bug
in all 3 languages I checked. The selected keyboard layout is NOT
recognize at any point during the install process, period. I check 3
keyboards layout (and languages): Norwegian, French and Deutsch (aka
German) on my VM.

In other words: at no point of the install but the moment of the
selection itself, you get the keyboard layout you selected. You got a 82
US layout in the first version of 20.04, with "Groovie" it's a 102 US
layout (with numeric keypad). A little progress, so.

The original bug description said: "During a fresh install of Ubuntu
20.04, selecting Norwegian keyboard is provided and keys are responding
correctly at that stage. But later when entering user information the
keyboard setting is wrong." Word for word, the same remark applies
except, as I said before, that the problem appears sooner, too.

It may help to trace the bug that some problem exist in US layout too:
the keyboard layout fall to 88 touch during the install process.

[Bug 1881828] Re: Lenovo X1 Extreme screen never wakes up

2020-06-18 Thread Kelly Kane
I attempted to get a bisect going but failed. These commit logs look
promising though as to where the fix lies.

Playing along from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Reverse_bisecting_upstream_kernel_versions
 I did this and got a segfault in git. Whoops. Not sure where to go from here.

That's bad, and there are several places where you can seek help to
resolve the problem:

A bug report is not a way to request support, though. Closing.

[Bug 1884159] [NEW] Update lockdown patches

2020-06-18 Thread Seth Forshee
Public bug reported:

Impact: The lockdown patches have evolved over time, and part of this
was restricting more areas of the kernel. Not all of these additions
were backported, and some can lead to lockdown bypasses, see [1] and
[2].

Fix: Backport newer lockdown restrictions to older releases.

Test Case: Test cases for most of the backports can be found at [3], and
[4] is another test case. Some which need e.g. specific hardware to test
have not been tested.

Regression Potential: Most of these are small, simple fixes with low
potential for regression. Users may also lose access to some
functionality previously accissible under secure boot. Some changes are
more substantial, especially the hw_param changes for xenial, but they
are based on well-tested upstream code. The xmon backports also carry a
more moderate risk of regression.

[Bug 1872541] Re: MySQL client fails to connect, seems to force SSL

2020-06-18 Thread Carlos Quiros
@rafaeldtinoco, I tried that but nothing changed:

Now If I do:

I get:

ECDSA-AES128-SHA:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA:DHE-RSA-
AES128-SHA:AES256-SHA:AES128-SHA

However when I try to connect with MySQL I get:

ERROR 2026 (HY000): SSL connection error: error:1425F102:SSL

An on the server-side (5.7.27) I get:

[Bug 1884155] [NEW] package pmount (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: unable to clean up mess surrounding './etc/bash_completion.d/pmount' before installing another version: Read-only file sys

2020-06-18 Thread Gonzalo Valdivieso Sarasola
Public bug reported:

i was very happy until i installed wine and playonlinux to get some windows
apps that i need.. i turned it off, go to sleep, wake up, start again athis is
what happen:
1- when the machine starts, before login section, a lot of code in black
screen. Telling something like "error", "not found", things like that
2- after that, the login was rare, too big scaled
3- when it opens up my session, everything is out of scale, too big. I try to
settings/Display, but only 640 x 480 (4:3) is available
4- now everything sucks (sorry), i can not save some files in pendrive, because
it is no "mounted point"
5- i do the backup thing, just 2 days ago... when i was in the peak of my
happiness, but when i "restore" it, just said everything was ok, etc, but
nothing happens

ASK: is there a way to protect the system to make mistakes ?
i ask this because, there is a lot of potential linux users, who do not get it
because they dont even try, but there is a lot of new users, who really do not
code anything, and the only way is to get some tutorials, etc and follow the
steps. I understand that this steps are made by people in there own system, and
they do not have to know/match with mine. In my last try with ubuntu, a few
years ago (14.08 i think) this was my most hard thing to survive with, because
in that time, i had to run cuda from nvidia, for the graphics, and everything
goes to hell too.

I will reset everything again, i like Linux, but i do not want to study
5 years to put it on my way.. i really hate windows, but the industry
takes you there, and that is so hatefull.. and mac, do a great job, but
4 of 5 mac-men are really assholes with washed brains

Thanks for your time
Have a nice day
Keep on going
I will try again

[Bug 1884152] [NEW] Integer overflow on armhf, test error

2020-06-18 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Public bug reported:

This test is failing on armhf:

```
=== RUN   TestGenerateRangeGuard
TestGenerateRangeGuard: generate_test.go:81: expected
@ IN SOA ns.test. hostmaster.test. ( 1 8h 2h 7d 1d )
$GENERATE 0-2 dhcp-${2147483647,4,d} A 10.0.0.$
to fail, but got no error
--- FAIL: TestGenerateRangeGuard (0.01s)
```
I believe this was introduced in commit
c0283a2028317d3fb6574f9a06e68443cf6b89cd which added this check:
```golang
if r.start+offset < 0 || r.end+offset > 1<<31-1 {
return 0, r.parseError("bad offset in
$GENERATE", si+3+sep)
}
```

The test will reach (1<<31-1)+2, meaning `r.end+offset` on 32bits
systems will become negative and thus not trigger the condition above.

[Bug 1884150] Re: /usr/share/apport/apport:AttributeError:/usr/share/apport/apport@424:parse_arguments:print_usage:_print_message

2020-06-18 Thread Brian Murray
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/apport/apport", line 424, in
options = parse_arguments()
  File "/usr/share/apport/apport", line 369, in parse_arguments
parser.print_usage()
  File "/usr/lib/python3.7/argparse.py", line 2484, in print_usage
self._print_message(self.format_usage(), file)
  File "/usr/lib/python3.7/argparse.py", line 2495, in _print_message
file.write(message)
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'write'

The traceback happens when trying to print the usage for the apport
command. However, the real issue is why is apport not being called
correctly. Looking at a few of the crash reports we can see a pattern
similar to the following:

PythonArgs
['/usr/share/apport/apport', '14750', '11', '0', '1', '14750',
'!opt!VBoxGuestAdditions-6.1.4!bin!VBoxClient', '(deleted)']

The "(deleted)" bit is likely coming from the %E part of the core
pattern. From man core.

   Since kernel 5.3.0, the pipe template is split on spaces into an
   argument list before the template parameters are expanded. In
   earlier kernels, the template parameters are expanded first and the
   resulting string is split on spaces into an argument list. This
   means that in earlier kernels executable names added by the %e and %E
   template parameters could get split into multiple arguments. So the
   core dump handler needs to put the executable names as the last
   argument and ensure it joins all parts of the executable name using
   spaces. Executable names with multiple spaces in them are not
   correctly represented in earlier kernels, meaning that the core dump
   handler needs to use mechanisms to find the executable name.

[Bug 1881003] Re: sru curtin 2020-05-27 - 20.1-0ubuntu1

2020-06-18 Thread Dan Watkins
Three runs of curtin's CI were performed for bionic: the first, our
regular Jenkins run had some tests fail due to bugs in the test code
(that have since been fixed upstream), so the second reruns the upstream
test code for those tests against the -proposed package. This second
run had some failures shared with the first run due to a kernel bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1825413), so a
third run of those tests was performed on my desktop.
