[Bug 1882416] Re: virtio-balloon change breaks rocky -> stein live migrate

2020-07-05 Thread Brett Milford
from paelzer https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-
archive/+bug/1848497/comments/15

BTW 2.11 -> 3.1 without the cloud archive in mind matches a migration from
Bionic to Disco.
I have checked my test logs (a bit ago since Disco itself is EOL).
But at least this January 13 and 16th the migrations 2.11 -> 3.1 still were ok.

In my log that was between
B: qemu: 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.21 libvirt: 4.0.0-1ubuntu8.14
D: qemu: 1:3.1+dfsg-2ubuntu3.7 libvirt: 5.0.0-1ubuntu2.6

7.2.0 (11:51:19): Test live migration (extra option '') of a bionic guest
testkvm-bionic-from/testkvm-disco-from
7.2.1 (11:51:19): live migration (extra option '') testkvm-bionic-from ->
testkvm-disco-from => Pass
7.2.2 (11:51:26): Check if guest kvmguest-bionic-normal on

[Bug 1886366] Re: USB External Drive Stalls and Timeouts

2020-07-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1886366/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1878006] security audit

2020-07-05 Thread Alex Murray
I reviewed liburing 0.6-3 as checked into groovy. This shouldn't be
considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.

liburing is a C library to help setup and remove io_uring instances, used
to perform efficient asynchronous communication between userspace and the
kernel.

- No CVE History

Whilst still a very new library, liburing appears to be well written and
relatively defensive, and given its minimal scope, does not appear to
provide any real attack surface or similar. It is well tested, but the
current tests are not well maintained in Ubuntu.

Security team ACK for promoting liburing to main, conditional on ensuring
the autopkgtests are fixed so that they are in a known state and can be
used for regression testing etc on future updates.

[Bug 1886269] Re: ps/2 mouse not working

I can't see any evidence of a PS/2 mouse being detected in your logs.
Only a Bluetooth mouse.

If this is a software bug then it would probably be a kernel bug.

[Bug 1886246] Re: Xorg freeze

2020-07-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That sounds like two different issues so we will make this bug just
about the mouse problem. Please open a new bug for the other issue if
you like.

It seems like there's a hardware/kernel problem with that mouse due to
these occasional messages:

[ 11273.560] (II) event11 - YSPRINGTECH USB OPTICAL MOUSE: SYN_DROPPED
event - some input events have been lost.

[ 12901.284] (II) event6 - YSPRINGTECH USB OPTICAL MOUSE: SYN_DROPPED event -
some input events have been lost.
[ 15824.486] (II) event6 - YSPRINGTECH USB OPTICAL MOUSE: SYN_DROPPED event -
some input events have been lost.

So please try a different USB mouse and/or a different USB port.

One last correction: openvswitch-dbg is in 16.04 LTS as well. But for
some reason these also exist:

something wrong in the software (bluez?), please add the affected

[Bug 1886360] Re: please build debug symbols

2020-07-05 Thread Paul Collins
It looks like there are debug symbols being build, but the situation is
a bit confusing. For 16.04 LTS, there's *-dbgsym on ddebs.ubuntu.com.
For later releases, there's openvswitch-dbg in the regular Ubuntu
archive.

2020-07-05 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Please still run `sudo apport-collect 1886337` with linux-firmware >=
1.187 installed. People would need information at the malfunction moment
for further investigation. That is:

  1. Install l-f 1.187 or newer,
  2. Prepare networking when wifi is not available, e.g. ethernet,
  3. Shutdown computer, unplug power cable for 1 minute, and then boot up again,
  4. When confirmed wifi is still not available, run that apport-collect
command to upload all the necessary information.

[Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu)
Assignee: Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (cyphermox) => (unassigned)

** Summary changed:

- dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with
non-equivalent nameservers
+ SDFEEWRDSsdfdasfsdf

** Description changed:

- A number of reports already filed against network-manager seem to
- reflect this problem, but to make things very clear I am opening a new
- report. Where appropriate I will mark other reports as duplicates of
- this one.
-
- Consider a pre-Precise system with the following /etc/resolv.conf:
-
- nameserver 192.168.0.1
- nameserver 8.8.8.8
-
- The first address is the address of a nameserver on the LAN that can
- resolve both private and public domain names. The second address is the
- address of a nameserver on the Internet that can resolve only public
- names.
-
- This setup works fine because the GNU resolver always tries the first-
- listed address first.
-
- Now the administrator upgrades to Precise and instead of writing the
- above to resolv.conf, NetworkManager writes
-
- server=192.168.0.1
- server=8.8.8.8
-
- to /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf and "nameserver 127.0.0.1" to
- resolv.conf. Resolution of private domain names is now broken because
- dnsmasq treats the two upstream nameservers as equals and uses the
- faster one, which could be 8.8.8.8.

** Summary changed:

- Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces
+ sdfssdfsdf

** Description changed:

- I'm assuming the issue is related to Compiz, but I'm not 100% sure. When
- I'm switching workspaces, it occasionally locks up (becoming more
- frequent). Most of the time, I'm going from the current one down
- (Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow), and it freezes mid slide. Typically, I'm able to
- correct things by backing out to a terminal then returning (Ctrl+Alt+F1,
- pause, Alt+F7), but sometimes when I return the dual screen setup acts
- as one large screen (windows are stretched to the full width of both
- screens) and many of the windows collect on the first workspace.

[Bug 1886356] [NEW] Unresolved problem when upgrading from 18.04 to 20.04

2020-07-05 Thread Robert
Public bug reported:

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was likely caused by:
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will
contain details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and
'apt.log'.

[Bug 1886354] Re: Software app (gnome-software) Explore always hangs

2020-07-05 Thread jimav
I tried "sudo apt-get install --reinstall gnome-software" in case
something was lost when upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04. Afterwards when I
ran gnome-software, it said '"GNOME Software" needs to be restarted to
use new plugins' but when I clicked "Restart Now", it hung.

This time syslog had these lines:

Jul 5 18:01:21 lxjima systemd[1989]: tracker-store.service: Succeeded.
Jul 5 18:01:27 lxjima dbus-daemon[2153]: [session uid=2000 pid=2153]

(but it's still hung)

[Bug 1886354] [NEW] Software app (gnome-software) Explore always hangs

2020-07-05 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

The Explore tab of the "Software" app seems to be completely non-
functional. It shows an initial screen with "Editors Picks", etc. but
if you do any search or click one of the Categories, a blank screen
appears with a forever-spinning indicator.

The following error is written to syslog:

...
dbus-daemon... Successfully activated service 'org.gnome.seahorse.Application'
gnome-shell[]: Received error from D-Bus search provider
org.gnome.seahorse.Application.desktop during GetResultMetas: Gio.DBusError:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name :1.1376 was not
provided by any .service files
gnome-shell[]: Wrong number of result metas returned by search provider
org.gnome.seahorse.Application.desktop: expected 4 but got 0
(complete syslog from during the run is attached as syslog.txt)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

1. Run gnome-software (or run "Software" through the app-finder mechanism)
2. Click the "Explore" (leftmost) tab at the top
3. Scroll down and click "Audio & Video" under Categories

RESULTS: White screen with forever-spinning indicator

[Bug 1886112] Re: Enabling DMESG_RESTRICT in Groovy Onward

2020-07-05 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I have created patches for both the procps package and the util-linux
package which implements the proposed changes.

You can find test packages in the following ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/lp1886112-test

Debdiff for procps: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/qvmHgMhXSj/
Debdiff for util-linux: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SYrK9xrwnP/

I have tested the packages on a Groovy daily build, and the changes
function as intended. The default user, who is in the adm group can use
dmesg freely, and unprivileged users can no longer access dmesg.

I am looking for feedback about the maintainability of the util-linux
patches, particularly about the additional burden it would place on
merges performed in the future. My main worry is the additional
dependency of libcap2-bin needed to set CAP_SYSLOG on /bin/dmesg.
