In my case /dev/nvme0n1p4 is the rpool partition (the tests for the preceeding

A deinstallation and reinstallation of the package brings no healing but

[Bug 1755305] Re: .xsession-errors filled with entries

2020-07-09 Thread Rolf Leggewie
According to upstream, this is self-inflicted pain in Ubuntu:

+--[

|
| I tried the git version of the applet and couldn't reproduce the warnings.
After applying

report it to
| Ubuntu bug tracker. In particular, patch
Support-hiding-rather-than-desensitizing-disallowed-
| items.patch looks suspicious.

[Bug 1887107] Re: Missing entry for timezone database when setting timezone via the text search

2020-07-09 Thread Adrien L.
I did a little bit more digging. Perhaps this comment would help explain
why there is a problem:
https://github.com/eggert/tz/commit/45dcf69b45087cff50282d4da64b86a7d705ddf3#commitcomment-4602830

In release v2013e "America/Montreal" was removed from the zone.tab file,
and incorrect programs may assume that zone.tab is the only
authoritative list of valid TZs.

Quoting the aformentioned linked comment:
> The TZ setting 'America/Montreal' should work as it did before, for all time

I noticed that `timedatectl list-timezones` also fails to list a valid
Montreal timezone, and it seems that this is a systemd util, pulling its
data from I don't know where... So maybe the bug is upstream.

[Bug 1260972] Re: Montreal not available in Ubiquity time zome selector

2020-07-09 Thread Adrien L.
I want to point out that the tzdata discussion (which I continued, but
should not have) seems to be irrelevant in the case of ubiquity, which
has the proper city of Montreal, but under a misspelled name.

My main point here is that the database contains a lot of misspellings.

[Bug 1877757] Re: No sound, Dummy output on Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G with Ice Lake core-i7 CPU

2020-07-09 Thread Shu Shen
I don't think the fix has been back-ported to 5.4 kernel.

The upstream kernel fix was included in kernel 5.8-rc1 and later:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/sound?h=v5.8-rc4&id=89d73ccab20a684d8446cea4d8ac6a2608c8d390

I tested with the 5.8-rc1 mainline kernel on Ubuntu 20.04:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8-rc1. Sound output
works without any boot parameter but the microphone array did not work
for me on SF314-57-74V6.

With security boot enabled on the laptop, manual signing the mainline
kernel is very cumbersome and difficult when doing software updates. I
lost appetite and will probably wait for Ubuntu 20.10 which might pick
up a later release of the kernel that has the fix.

[Bug 1260972] Re: Montreal not available in Ubiquity time zome selector

2020-07-09 Thread Adrien L.
Upping this again.

There is a Mont-real entry, which is not an official name for the city.
This should be corrected to either Montréal or Montreal (preferably the
first).

> However, this turned out to not be true and Montreal timezone was removed
> from tzdata database.
This is not quite correct, Montreal is still aliased in the
/usr/share/zoneinfo. It may make sense to alias them, but politically Quebec
and Ontario have autonomy in the matters of time zone selection (each province
passes their own laws), and as someone mentioned previously, there is no reason
for the residents of Quebec to believe that they should be subordinate to the
timezone of another province of Canada, simply because of that autonomy. If any
kind of unification needs to be made, then the Toronto / Quebec zone should be
specified under the more common "Eastern Daylight Time" denomination.

I have also noticed, in very little time playing around with the time
zone selector, that the quality of the database is fairly poor, and
contains many misspellings. For example, when just typing "Mont", I
noticed two separate entries for the city of Mont-de-Marsan (in France).
There is the correct spelling "Mont-de-Marsan", but there is also a
*wrong* alternate spelling "Lo Mont-de-Marsan", which I think was
supposed to be the Gascon spelling ("Lo Mont de Marçan"). There is also
a third entry "Lo Mont", supposedly to a city in Aquitaine, and I
suspect this is another incorrect entry in this database referring to
the same city. This is just the first thing I found, but I have no doubt
that I would find many more misspellings and poor quality entries if I
digged more.

Maybe the problem is not in openssh package, but in some postinstall or

[Bug 1882161] Re: module-switch-on-port-avaiable: switch the port on ucm devices based on the priority

2020-07-09 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
@sil2100

hello Lukasz,

I just update the bug's description, would you please check if it is ok
for you to proceed SRU.

Thanks!

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * On the Dell machines with multi function audio jack, the
headphone/headset can't output sound automatically, which is different
from ubuntu 18.04. The headphone/headset should be able to output
sound automatically after plugging in the audio jack.

  [Test Case]

   * On Tiger Lake platform
-Reproduce step:
+    Reproduce step:
     1. plug headphone/headset
     2. open g-c-c sound to check

Expect result: The output device should switch to headphone or headset,
since headphone's priority is higher in ucm2 config.
Actual result: The output device is still internal speaker.

  [Regression Potential]

-  * Low, just do a small change to store the ucm devices by their priority.
-    and upstream just merged this patch.
+  * The change insert the ucm device by its priority, the potential
+regression is low, since if the change is not working properly, the
+side effect is that the order of ucm devices are wrong, and it won't
+switch to the correct output device as expect, but user can still
+config it manually.

  [Other]

   * This bug originates from an OEM private bug #1875597, then ubuntu users
     reported 2 public bugs #1871329 and #1881659. The 2nd issue of #1871329
and the 1st issue of #1881659 have the same root cause as #1875597

   * The root cause is the ucm2 conf defines 2 input devices: the Mic2 and
Headset MIC, and the pulseaudio parse the input device Headset MIC
first then Mic2, finally the audio jack is set to Mic2 mode, this make
the audio jack can't output sound anymore. To fix it, let the audio
jack set to Headset MIC mode by default (Headset MIC has higher
priority than Mic2 in the ucm2 conf), to do so, let pulseaudio send the
device event to module-switch-on-port-available by the order of
     priority in the umc2.

@Corbin
Thanks, that worked!

And with this I can report that sound in 5.6.3 DOES work for me. Will
go back now and try to find the *1st* workable kernel.

[Bug 1882161] Re: module-switch-on-port-avaiable: switch the port on ucm devices based on the priority

2020-07-09 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
** Description changed:

- This bug originates from an OEM private bug #1875597, then ubuntu users
- reported 2 public bugs #1871329 and #1881659. The 2nd issue of #1871329
- and the 1st issue of #1881659 have the same root cause as #1875597
+ [Impact]

- [Impact]
- On the Dell machines with multi function audio jack, after installing the
ubuntu 20.04 and if the audio driver is sof instead of legacy hda, the
headphone/headset can't output sound automatically after users plug in a
headphone/headset. This is different from ubuntu 18.04, on the 18.04, the
headphone/headset could output sound automatically after plugging in the audio
jack.
-
- [Fix]
- The root cause is the ucm2 conf defines 2 input devices: the Mic2 and Headset
MIC, and the pulseaudio parse the input device Headset MIC first then Mic2,
finally the audio jack is set to Mic2 mode, this make the audio jack can't
output sound anymore. To fix it, let the audio jack set to Headset MIC mode by
default (Headset MIC has higher priority than Mic2 in the ucm2 conf), to do so,
let pulseaudio send the device event to module-switch-on-port-available by the
order of priority in the umc2.
+ * On the Dell machines with multi function audio jack, the
+headphone/headset can't output sound automatically, which is different
+from ubuntu 18.04. The headphone/headset should be able to output
+sound automatically after plugging in the audio jack.

  [Test Case]
- applying the fix patch to pulseaudio, plug a headset/headphone to the multi
function audio jack, play sound from headset/headphone, the sound could be
heard from headset/headphone.

- [Regression Risk]
- Low, just do a small change to store the ucm devices by their priority. and
upstream just merged this patch.
+ * Reproduce step:
+1. plug headphone/headset
+2. open g-c-c sound to check
+
+Expect result: The output device should switch to headphone or headset,
+ since headphone's priority is higher in ucm2 config.
+Actual result: The output device is still internal speaker.

[Bug 1887016] Re: Openssh default config has two PasswordAuthentication params

2020-07-09 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Rulon, can you please double-check where your openssh-server
package came from? I don't have this "PasswordAuthentication yes" in any
of my 20.04 systems, and a very quick look at the current package
doesn't show this:

$ apt-get download openssh-server

[Bug 1791761] Re: No mail retrieving from a local popa3d server with thunderbird 1.52.9.1

2020-07-09 Thread D. Hugh Redelmeier
I had a problem much like this.

- in 2020 January.

- Ubuntu 18.04

- broke when I updated Thunderbird from 1:52.7.0+build1-0ubuntu1

- fixed when I rolled it back and pinned it.

With recent updates, even 1:52.7.0+build1-0ubuntu1 failed in a way that
seems the same.

I then updated to the latest version and it still fails.

I have a POP server on my LAN. Thunderbird accesses it using TLS.

tcpdump shows that Thunderbird opens a TCP/IP connection and does
nothing with it.

I seem to remember (from 2020 January) that someone said that the bug is
actually in a library. Unfortunately I don't remember which one. ldd
applied to thunderbird doesn't show any likely candidates.

[Bug 1887098] [NEW] Installing python-is-python3 should affect pip as well

2020-07-09 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

Installing python-is-python3 should affect pip as well

When I install python-is-python3, python becomes python3 but I still
have to type pip3. I think either python-is-python3 should make pip into
pip3 (which might be surprising to some, since pip3 is installed
separately) or I would like a pip-is-pip3 and pip-is-pip2 package.

actually, the downgrade is not compatible either. But i think it is
possible to lower the tasty deps that the new hledger wants, because
actually the ones we have are good enough.

I've subscribed ubuntu-sru team and edited your original report to the format
for SRU: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#SRU_Bug_Template
I think that's about all I can do here. I'm not sure if this bug will qualify
as important enough, but the regression potential is certainly low. Good luck.

[Bug 1886824] Re: Search delay -> update to 2.4.4

2020-07-09 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
** Description changed:

- On Ubuntu 20.04, a search delay of about one second was introduced
(regression compared to Ubuntu 19.10).
- v2.4.4 of xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin fixes this, in particular this commit:
https://git.xfce.org/panel-plugins/xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin/commit/?h=v2.4.4&id=4436c526050c4234734577f266ab79e44987b7d0
- I verified this by manually applying the linked patch.
- There don't seem to be any changes in 2.4.3 -> 2.4.4 other than this fix and
translation updates, so it seems safe to update.
+ [Impact]
+ On Ubuntu 20.04, a search delay was introduced (regression compared to Ubuntu
19.10) with the intent of reducing search results. This caused slower search
updates and was reported to xfce bugzilla:
+
+ v2.4.4 of xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin reverts the delay, in particular this
+ commit: https://git.xfce.org/panel-plugins/xfce4-whiskermenu-
+ plugin/commit/?h=v2.4.4&id=4436c526050c4234734577f266ab79e44987b7d0
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Rapidly type in the search box and note how long the results take to update.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Low. There are no changes in upstream 2.4.3 -> 2.4.4 other than this fix and
translation updates. In addition, Ubuntu 20.10/Groovy and Debian unstable
already use version 2.4.4, and no regressions have been reported, so it seems
safe to update.

[Bug 1886668] Re: linux 4.15.0-109-generic network DoS regression vs -108

2020-07-09 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
https://launchpad.net/~cascardo/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/11419106
/+listing-archive-extra

So, this package on my ppa is built for bionic, but should work on other
series too.

It has a service that will call a wrapper that will start the reproducer
and reboot. The reason for the reboot is because once we add a task to
net_prio cgroup, it will disable cgroup bpf and we can't call the
reproducer again. And the reproducer, though it can cause the refcount
to go below 0 every time, it won't always cause the exact crash from
this bug.

Once you want to disable the reproducer, you should add to the kernel
cmdline the parameter "systemd.mask=cgroup-bpf-net-prio-crash.service".
Then, you need to remove the package and can get your system back.

You may be running some service that will add a task to net_prio or
net_cls cgroup, thus preventing the reproducer to run at all (but not
stop it from rebooting your system over and over again). lxd comes to
mind here.

You may check that it's the case (before installing the reproducer) by looking
at dmesg and searching for:
cgroup: cgroup: disabling cgroup2 socket matching due to net_prio or net_cls
activation

The following WARN is the demonstration that the refcount underflow has
happened (though not the crash):
[ 12.581125] [ cut here ]
[   12.585021] percpu ref (cgroup_bpf_release_fn) <= 0 (-357) after switching
to atomic
[ 12.585092] WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 665 at lib/percpu-refcount.c:160
percpu_ref_switch_to_atomic_rcu+0x12e/0x140

The crash will cause a panic and likely prevent the system from
rebooting, showing you have reproduced the issue.

If you never see the WARN, the bug has been mitigated, though it can
still happen if we modify the reproducer slightly to also change
net_cls.classid.

Cascardo.

[Bug 1886729] Re: Dell displayport YJ3Y6 adapter doesn't drive 4K screen properly

2020-07-09 Thread Robert Collins
It is super snappy but doesn't work any better: one of the external
monitors, or the other but not both.

I'm unfamiliar with Wayland, and Googling around has not found any
equivalent tools to xrandr to let me interrogate what the system thinks
is going on, so I've included a screenshot of the displays control
panel.

What further diagnostics would you like me to perform?
