Same issue here. When lid close action is set to suspend, resuming
doesn't work with the same freezing symptoms. However, systemctl suspend
can freeze & resume correctly.

[Bug 1888033] Re: Check error with 20.04-desktop ISO

2020-07-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1888033/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1884850] Re: Xorg server uses unacceptably large amounts of memory (and keep growing)

2020-07-17 Thread Wirawan Purwanto
Hi Daniel, responding to your comment:

In my years of using Linux desktop (in particular, XFCE), I have never
experienced memory explosion caused by Xorg server like what I described
in this bug report. Please allow me to be a bit candid here. It seems
like the newer versions of desktop software (which could mean one or
more of these: Xorg, firefox, Libre Office, XFCE and/or MATE, ...) leads
to significant bloat in memory usage. This is to the point that a very
capable laptop (with >= 8 GB of RAM) would perform poorly because of
memory thrashing today even when our usage pattern is not changed over
the years (at least I feel so). I'll back this up below.

I still have a desktop computer running Debian 8 and XFCE. Here are some
stats on that running system:

* up time = 31

*

[Bug 1888040] Re: Erase the target device even if I chose to abort before entering the authorization

2020-07-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1888040

(there are no details about package, release etc, apport-collect will
collect this and other details)

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1888036] [NEW] WiFi unavailable after computer suspend

2020-07-17 Thread David Arnstein
Public bug reported:

I believe that this issue is specific to Intel AX1650i WiFi chip.

After suspend and resume, WiFi is no longer available. The Gnome UI
indicates computer is in airplane mode. Rfkill(1) reports that
networking is blocked in hardware.

I have an output from apport that I made right after suspend and resume.
I will attempt to attach it to this bug report.

I saved /var/log/syslog after suspend and resume. I see that the system
failed to load firmware into the AX1650i chip. I will attempt to attach
this file to this bug report.

2020-07-17 Thread Bill Crocker
Thanks for responding. I apologise for an error in my comments above.
The Year tag has in all cases been correctly included in the converted
file. My problem is that Grouping and Rating are not included in mp3
conversions.

As a newbie I'm not following your design comments, but as suggested
I've attached screen shots of ffprobe results for both a sample mp3 file
and the same track as an ogg conversion, which includes the Rating and
Grouping tags and some variants of these tags.

Can mp3 files use the same processing as ogg ones?

[Bug 1834269] Re: 'Official documentation online' link not linking to latest docs

2020-07-17 Thread Simon Quigley
Hi Sean!

It looks like this made it here a little too late for 20.04. If you
would like to get this SRU'ed, please update the bug template
accordingly.

Would you still like a patch changing this to 20.04 uploaded to Groovy?
(Will there be a 20.10 page up soon that you would like to change it to
instead?)

(Unsubscribing sponsors for now.)

That no longer surprises me.

Ubuntu apparently has stopped fighting the idiotic decisions taken by
Gnome upstream.

You are no longer patching the type-ahead-triggers-search madness, you
refused to restore the "open with" submenu, you have embraced the
reversed sorting icons, and the list goes on.

[Bug 1851682] Re: oscap is broken in ubuntu 19.10

2020-07-17 Thread Simon Quigley
This has already been fixed in Groovy, and Eoan just went EOL.

I have uploaded your patches to Focal and Bionic, and they are waiting
in the respective queues. I tweaked the version numbers and made sure
the LP bug number was in the changelog, following SRU policy. I also
changed bionic-security to bionic in your Bionic diff changelog, since
in order for it to be SRU'ed it can't go directly to -security.

In the future, try to follow DEP-3 patch headers. It makes it easier for
others to review your patch, for uploading and further maintenance. You
can find more details here: https://dep-team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep3/

Also, please look at the Security Team document for version numbers:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Update_the_packaging

(In reply to qik00yt from comment #59)
> > But because the window manager

>
> Why ? Is there a reason it cant ?
That's what's being discussed by various developers in the comment thread of
this bug report. :) There are a variety of technical challenges to making work
on both X11 and Wayland. On X11, the challenges relate to various mismatches
between what X11 provides the window manager and what the window manager needs.
On Wayland, it're more about needed functionality not having been merged into a
protocol yet.

Again, if it were easy, it would already be done. :)

For sure. Similar,y, some KDE applications already support this individually,
such as Discover and Elisa.

X11 limitations don't come into play when the app itself does it.

Indeed, that's exactly what Bug 415150 is tracking: having our app framework
provide the feature automatically for all KDE apps, in the absence of the
window manager doing it automatically.

Of course time is limited, and here I am responding to comments in a bug

[Bug 1860851] Re: blueman-applet crashed with UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x8e in position 4: invalid start byte

2020-07-17 Thread Joshua Peisach
wait-this issue still occurs and yet we still use python2 here?

Checking https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=942916, in
version 2.1.3-2 they switch to cython3.

Three releases occured since 20.04 release. And in JournalErrors, too,
systemd has had issues, which was also patched in latest versions of
blueman.

Updates are relatively sparce sadly-but it's worth SRUing all the
patches we did to 20.04 to quickly fix this thanks to Eoan support
ending.

[Bug 1887965] Re: package shim-signed 1.40.3+15+1533136590.3beb971-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving triggers unprocessed

2020-07-17 Thread Steve Langasek
The error in the logs is:

mount: /var/lib/grub/esp: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on
/dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.
dpkg: error processing package grub-efi-amd64-signed (--configure):

This does indeed look like grub is trying to find an ESP on a disk other
than the one Ubuntu is installed to. Could you show the output of 'sudo

[Bug 1888023] [NEW] Please ship apparmor features files

2020-07-17 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Public bug reported:

To allow prebuilding apparmor profiles during cloud-images build, the
chroot where cloud-image is created need access to the
/sys/kernel/security/apparmor/features of the target kernel.

It would be nice, if kernels were booted, that file stored, and
installed in the linux-image package for every kernel we ship.

This way we can precreate binary cached apparmor profiles during image
build time speeding up first boot.

Great, I will tag you on future communication on the exec format issue.
Hopefully we'll get to a resolution. Thanks for your time on reporting
the issue.

[Bug 1880076] Re: ubuntu 20.4 - retransmitts with r8169

2020-07-17 Thread Jeremy Elson
I tried:

echo 'performance' > /sys/module/pcie_aspm/parameters/policy

This did not improve performance or reduce packet loss.

I don't think it's right to give up and say "Well, this is a BIOS bug."
The 18.04 kernel does not exhibit this problem, nor does Windows, but
the 20.04 kernel does. It's the kernel's fault, even if the kernel's bad
behavior was triggered by a bad BIOS.

[Bug 1888000] Re: Bionic/Xenial minimal cloud image: failed to apply load kernel module

2020-07-17 Thread Terry Rudd
We have determined nothing has changed in those kernels from last cycle
or this cycle. We think something changed in the CPC environment that
might have triggered what we think might be an old bug. But we need to
CPC help to identify the "last good kernel" and the "first bad kernel".
Once we can isolate, we can have a more useful investigation

We have determined that ib_iser.ko is not in 4.15.0-1069-kvm but it
wasn't there in the previous cycle's kernel and is not in the current
proposed 4.15.0-1071.72 cycle either. I don't think we should try to
make a change, re-spin, then ask the CPC team to test, especially since
we never made the breaking-change in the first place (as far as we know
at least). Once we know what changed we can make the right choice.

Hopefully this is a reasonable approach

[Bug 1886843] Re: unattended upgrade deleted my custom locales

2020-07-17 Thread Bruno Haible
Thanks for the hint. That should work for next time.
Although I would have found it nicer if the distro had not created an
additional layer on top of 'localedef'.
