[Bug 1888041] Re: default output is ignored and reset after reboot

2020-07-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In Ubuntu we always prefer whichever device connected most recently,
which is probably your wireless headset. To disable this feature try
editing /etc/pulse/default.pa and commenting out some or all of these:

### Should be after module-*-restore but before module-*-detect
load-module module-switch-on-port-available

### Use hot-plugged devices like Bluetooth or USB automatically (LP: #1702794)
.ifexists module-switch-on-connect.so
load-module module-switch-on-connect
.endif

[Bug 1871538] Re: dbus timeout-ed during an upgrade, taking services down including gdm

2020-07-19 Thread Steve Beattie
I also hit this again in focal on 2020-06-25, with an update to systemd
245.4-4ubuntu3.1; I had previously updated dbus to 1.12.16-2ubuntu2.1 on
2020-06-17 without event. It's still an issue at least with updates to
systemd in focal.

Issues like this are often model or vendor specific. What is the model
of headset?

I think bug 1532508 has been around for so long that it's now about any

[Bug 1887724] Re: [amdgpu] Xorg freeze

2020-07-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sorry I failed to notice you can't replace the graphics card as it's a
laptop...

If that error is some other PCIe device then it might be just the wifi
card which is easy to disable or replace.

[Bug 1887724] Re: [amdgpu] Xorg freeze

2020-07-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The only explanation for a freeze I can see in the log of comment #4 is
this recurring kernel/hardware problem:

Jul 16 12:06:21 bmariner-Inspiron-7375 kernel: pcieport :00:01.1: AER:
Corrected error received: :00:01.0
Jul 16 12:06:21 bmariner-Inspiron-7375 kernel: pcieport :00:01.1: AER: PCIe
Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Data Link Layer, (Transmitter ID)
Jul 16 12:06:21 bmariner-Inspiron-7375 kernel: pcieport :00:01.1: AER:
device [1022:15d3] error status/mask=1000/6000
Jul 16 12:06:21 bmariner-Inspiron-7375 kernel: pcieport :00:01.1: AER:
[12] Timeout

which is about vendor "Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD]" device
"Raven/Raven2 PCIe GPP Bridge [6:0]". So I think that's related to the
graphics card.

If you can then try a different graphics card or even just a different
kernel version from:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D

[Bug 1888173] Re: I'm not really sure, I was trying to renstall my system

2020-07-19 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I didn't look for your actual issue, but I saw a number of things that
would have me checking your hardware.

I would suggest doing a `fsck` of your partition(s) (esp. sda5), after
you evaluate the health of your drive
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Smartmontools)

Jul 20 02:41:08 ubuntu kernel: [  935.376199] EXT4-fs error (device
sda5) in ext4_free_inode:352: Corrupt filesystem

which was not the first of such errors, but numerous error messages
appeared that would make me want to check. For example

Jul 20 02:41:06 ubuntu kernel: [  933.364729] ata2: lost interrupt (Status 0x50)
Jul 20 02:41:06 ubuntu kernel: [  933.364749] ata2.01: limiting SATA link speed
to 1.5 Gbps
Jul 20 02:41:08 ubuntu kernel: [  934.948871] ata2.00: SATA link down (SStatus
0 SControl 300)
Jul 20 02:41:08 ubuntu kernel: [  934.948883] ata2.01: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps
(SStatus 113 SControl 310)

Is your drive healthy? (I'd check it's SMART health)

Is it getting good power? (maybe check your PSU/power supply) as a
faulty PSU can cause good components to fail at random or predictable
times.

let alone many messages like
Jul 20 02:34:56 ubuntu kernel: [ 62.570608] check: Corrupted low memory at
(ptrval) (ae90 phys) = 7eef40017eef4001

Low memory may not be a the result of bad memory, the first 1MB can also
occur when multiple devices try and share the same memory corrupting it,
a misconfigured device or other cause(s).

This is comment only.

[Bug 1888184] [NEW] nagios-nrpe-server-4 is creating incorrect log spam

2020-07-19 Thread JP Vossen
Public bug reported:

Server: Debian 10 (buster), nagios-nrpe-plugin-3.2.1-2
Node: Linux Mint 20 (Ulyana), using Ubuntu Focal,
nagios-nrpe-server-4.0.0-2ubuntu1

Icinga1 server on Debian monitoring a bunch of LinuxMint-19.3, using protocol
v3, and working just fine since last year. I just built 2x new install
Mint-20.0 nodes and on *both* of them, for every single `check_nrpe` from the
server to the node, the node spams its logs with:
* Jul 19 22:02:56 node nrpe[13152]: Error: (use_ssl == true): Request packet
version was invalid!
* Jul 19 22:02:56 node nrpe[13152]: Could not read request from client
192.168.1.11, bailing out...
* Jul 19 22:02:56 node nrpe[13152]: INFO: SSL Socket Shutdown.

And the server spams its logs with:
* Jul 19 22:02:05 server check_nrpe: Remote 192.168.1.120 does not support
Version 3 Packets

Yet despite all of that noise, the checks actually work just fine.

Expected: the checks using nrpe-v3 should Just Work with no incorrect log spam
What happens: the nrpe-v3 checks work but spam the logs on both sides

Nice-to-have: any clues on how to cut down the log spam until the fix is
released.
Using `/etc/nagios/nrpe.d/node.cfg` to set `debug=1` or `debug=0` works to turn
debugs logs on and off, but that has no effect on the rest of the spam.

Server side sanity checks:
```
$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H node-mint20.0 -n
CHECK_NRPE: Receive header underflow - only -1 bytes received (4 expected).
$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H node-mint20.0 -2 # (NO LOG SPAM)
NRPE v4.0.0
$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H node-mint20.0# (v3 STILL WORKS,
but with log spam)
NRPE v4.0.0
$ /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H node-mint19.3
NRPE v3.2.1
```

SERVER side test run, with deliberate errors to bracket the logs:
```
[root@drake:T1:L1:C4975:J0:2020-07-20_01:02:04_EDT]
/root# /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H node -c check_load_start
NODE side debug log, notes the errors, note the LOG SPAM, note the check still
runs:
  Software & Updates application crashed when tried to sign in - clicking
  the Sign in / Register button in the popup window. Furthermore, the
  "Other Software" tab doesn't change on clicking any of the records - the
  window greys out as it was bringing up a (root password) popup as
  expected but nothing happens, another click and it's back to normal
  without any change.
  Running the application from the terminal (with sudo to bypass the
  secondary issue above) the application runs fine the "Other Software"
  tab acts as expected but again the Livepatch sign in break the same way
  with the error:
[Bug 1888047] Re: libnss-mdns slow response
2020-07-19 Thread Trent Lloyd
Rumen,
When you use 'nslookup' it should go directly to using the DNS server
(127.0.0.53 [which is systemd-resolved]) which typically bypasses
libnss-mdns but also typically doesn't have this 5 second delay (which
avahi can have in some configurations). Seems most likely the 5 second
delay is coming from inside systemd-resolved for some reason.
The best way to test with "NSS" is to use "getent hosts DOMAIN"
Could you please confirm the output of the following commands:
lsb_release -a
dpkg -l libnss-mdns
systemctl status avahi-daemon
time getent hosts sirius.local
time nslookup sirius.local # just to verify the problem still exists at
the same time we do the above test
systemd-resolve --status --no-pager
- attach the file /etc/systemd/resolved.conf
[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs
2020-07-19 Thread MK
7GB in my case. I am the only user, but what I do in a rare case is put the
computer into Suspend mode.
Truly stupid behavior, to fill up a log with 7GB+++ of same error, without ever
showing an on-screen notification to a user (ONLY ONCE PLEASE, NOT SEVEN
BILLION NOTIFICATIONS), ASSUMING this error has any significance to the user
whatsover.
Yes, Linux suspend behavior needs polishing. Video does not resume, etc,
etc, etc. I only use it on a rare forced need, but multiple things break
on resume of session after a Suspend.
[Bug 1888175] [NEW] patchelf and bloat due to "warning: working around a Linux kernel bug by creating a hole of ..."
2020-07-19 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:
I'm working on Ubuntu 18.04 x86_64 fully patched. I'm trying to use
patchelf to fix runpaths in Perl built from sources. Perl is mishandling
runpath options in LDFLAGS but refuses to fix it; see
https://github.com/Perl/perl5/issues/17534.
When patchelf runs I see a lot of:
/home/jwalton/perl-5.32.0/fix-pkgconfig.exe
warning: working around a Linux kernel bug by creating a hole of 2072576 bytes
in ‘/home/jwalton/perl-5.32.0/fix-pkgconfig.exe’
/home/jwalton/perl-5.32.0/generate_uudmap
warning: working around a Linux kernel bug by creating a hole of 2088960 bytes
in ‘/home/jwalton/perl-5.32.0/generate_uudmap’
...
I believe patchelf needs this commit:
https://github.com/NixOS/patchelf/commit/c4deb5e9.
Also see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1497012.
[Bug 1887861] Re: Gnome Lock screen shows old screen before lock screen
2020-07-19 Thread mike Bernson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1532508 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1532508
I do not think this is the same problem.
1532508 is supsend issue.
This does not require supsend.
Just do nothing for the amount of time it takes to cause the screen to lock
because of being idle.
then hit the return key and you see the old screen before the lock and some
short time later the
lock screen displays.
2020-07-19 Thread Joshua Peisach
** Description changed:
  This is an upstream issue-read the following bug reports.
  https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/9401
  https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues/9468
  I will shortly publish a patch/debdiff to allow for possible SRU.
  This is a REGRESSION of a commit in Cinnamon 4.0.0
(https://github.com/linuxmint/muffin/commit/1d38120c9ded2578a14cb2e8bf46bb82b3acdc75)
+
+ SRU TEMPLATE:
+
+ [Impact]
+
+  * In fallback mode Cinnamon/Muffin segfaults and makes the desktop unusable.
+
+  * This would occur by having two monitors-a laptop and an external with the
laptop off and the external on-supposedly with NVIDIA as a driver.
+ [Test Case]
+
+  * Upstream commits example to replicate bug:
+  "Example to reproduce: Laptop monitor + external monitor.  Arrange laptop
+  monitor to the right of the external one.  Using nvidia-450 (confirmed
+  for me, at least), turn laptop monitor off.  Ignoring horrible lag from
+  driver, turn the laptop monitor back on (arranging it still to the right
+  of the external monitor)."
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+  * This is actually a SOLVE of a regression-I'd task this at medium
+ priority.
+
+  * This regression fix goes back to Cinnamon 4.0.0-or when Eoan Ermine
+ was released by getting refresh rates form xrandr
+
+  * In upstream Mint this was an SRU/release as seen here:
+ https://github.com/linuxmint/muffin/releases/tag/master.mint20 (The
+ latest is the patch for this bug)
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+  * I couldn't pbuilder-dist for some reason. Missing dependencies or stuff
didn't exist-in sbuild it did though and my debuild -S did.
+
+  * I will work on patching this in Groovy through debian unstable and
+ will  attach the bug report for groovy as part of this
+ situation/regression.
[Bug 1887734] Re: soc/amd/renoir: detect dmic from acpi table
2020-07-19 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:
- For focal and oem-5.6 kernel, these all 5 patches are needed, for
- groovy kernel, since the 1st patch is already in the 5.8 kernel, the
- groovy kernel only needs the last 3 patches [3/5, 4/5 and 5/5].
+ Groovy kernel already merged the patchset
  [Impact]
- the alsa upstream worte the ucm3 files for amd renoir audio, but to
- load the ucm3, it depends on the kernel module name, and the upstream
- ucm3 needs the name snd-xxx, so we need to backport the patches
- from mainline kernel to change the kernel module name to meet ucm3
- requirement. BTW, there are some dmic dynamically detection patches,
- we integrate them too.
+ On the amd renoir machines, there is possibility that they have no dmic
+ from the hardware desgin, but the driver register a dmic unconditionally,
+ to avoid it, add the dmic detection code in the driver.
  [Fix]
- Backport 4 patches from upstream.
+ Backport 3 patches from upstream.
  [Test Case]
- boot the kernel with these patches on amd renoir machines (lenovo
- machines), the audio driver works well (via command line like
- aplay or areord), then upgrade the alsa-lib and alsa-ucm-conf to
- 1.2.3.2, now we could see the audio devices from gnome, and they work
- well.
+ On the 3 Lenovo ADM renoir machines, boot the kernel with this patchset,
+ all dmic could be detected and registered as before. Disable the dmic
+ in the BIOS, the driver can't detect the dmic and the dmic is not
+ registered in the driver.
  [Regression Risk]
  Low, this SRU are only specific to soc/amd/renoir, and we already
- tested on 2 lenovo machines, their audio worked as before.
+ tested on 3 lenovo machines, they worked as expected.
[Bug 1888167] [NEW] Unable to Login
2020-07-19 Thread dundir
Public bug reported:
Currently I'm using a 4K AOC monitor on 20.04 LTS with a DisplayPort
cable.
Normally, there is a gear widget in the lower right corner of the screen
that allows me to select between XServer and Wayland. This gear is
missing. Switching to an HDMI cable corrects the issue but doesn't allow
the display to work at higher than 30hz.
Additionally, attempting to login throws a session error which hangs.
You need to switch to a separate tty to do anything.
The specific error is a popup right after entering your password.
This is the text:
Error found when loading /home/user/.xprofile:
warning: output HDMI-A-1 not found: ignoring
X Error of failed request: BadRROutput (invalid Output parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 15 (RRGetOutputProperty)
Serial number of failed request: 37
[Bug 1888166] [NEW] soc/amd/renoir: change the module name to make it work with ucm3
2020-07-19 Thread Hui Wang
Public bug reported:
[Impact]
the alsa upstream worte the ucm3 files for amd renoir audio, but to
load the ucm3, it depends on the kernel module name, and the upstream
ucm3 needs the name snd-xxx, so we need to backport the patches
from mainline kernel to change the kernel module name to meet ucm3
requirement. BTW, there are some dmic dynamically detection patches,
we integrate them too.
[Fix]
Backport 1 patch from upstream.
[Test Case]
boot the kernel with the patch on amd renoir machines (lenovo
machines), the audio driver works well (via command line like
aplay or areord), then upgrade the alsa-lib and alsa-ucm-conf to
1.2.3.2, now we could see the audio devices from gnome, and they work
well.
[Regression Risk]
Low, this SRU are only specific to soc/amd/renoir, and we already
tested on 2 lenovo machines, their audio worked as before.
[Bug 1888164] Re: Cannot re-pair Bluetooth Keyboard when wrong pairing code is entered
2020-07-19 Thread Grace Icay
I'm attaching the captured btsnoop logs
** Description changed:
  Expected behavior:
  1.Pressing the “Cancel” button during device pairing should close the
pairing code prompt
  2.Re-pairing BT keyboard after cancelling initial pairing should re-open
the pairing code prompt
  Problem:
  1.Pressing the “Cancel” button during device pairing does not close the
pairing code prompt
  2.Re-pairing BT keyboard after cancelling initial pairing does not show
the pairing code prompt.
  Steps:
  1.Turn on the system’s Bluetooth (usually turned on by default on boot)
  2.Try to pair the system with the BT Keyboard via the Bluetooth Settings
UI
  3.When the pairing code prompt appears, input the wrong code and press
enter. This should generate a new code
  4.Press “Cancel” on the pairing code prompt. Notice that the cancel
button is not working.
  5.Press the Esc button on the system’s keyboard. This should close the
pairing code prompt.
  6.Try re-pairing the system with the BT Keyboard via the Bluetooth
Settings UI.
  7.Notice that the connection is loading but the pairing code prompt does
not reappear. The system and the BT keyboard cannot be re-paired.
  Workaround:
  1.When a new code is generated in Step 3, input the correct code. This
would successfully pair the system and the BT keyboard.
  2.Try rebooting the system after Step 7 to recover the connection.
  Notes:
  - Keyboards tested:
-   > ThinkPad Compact Bluetooth Keyboard
-   > Microsoft Designer Keyboard
+   > ThinkPad Compact Bluetooth Keyboard
+   > Microsoft Designer Keyboard
  - Issue does not happen in Windows OS
+ - I have reported this issue to Intel and they didn't see any error from
the connection logs. We are suspecting that this has to do with the Bluetooth
UI instead.
[Bug 1364176] Re: add-apt-repository fails to add repository with no explanation; --massive-debug doesn't show debugging
2020-07-19 Thread Rares Vernica
I ran into this today. So annoying. I kept getting "Please check that
the PPA name or format is correct." This error message is so
misleading... The Internet is littered with people working around the
"add-apt-repository" script since no one can really figure out the real
reason for this error message.
In my case, I was running this script in a container and had the Docker
DNS in Fedora 32 issue.
[Bug 1865293] Re: ryzen 5 3600x soft lockups
2020-07-19 Thread Victor Queiroz
I have a Ryzen 5 3600x and I have the same issue. I get freezes where I
can't move the cursor and the only fix is manually rebooting the PC.
Data corruption is something that I'm already experiencing here. Not
sure what to do. I'm not using Ubuntu, though. It is also reproducible
on Ubuntu, although less frequent. I could reproduce on Ubuntu Desktop
20.04 Live DVD after more than an hour of watching videos and all that.
I've created a bug on kernel bug tracker because it mostly seems like a
kernel bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=208615#c1
[Bug 1847597] Re: gnome-control-center cannot access google account
2020-07-19 Thread AC
Gnome team have fixed this upstream, see fix
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-online-accounts/-/issues/42
v3.18.2 will not be fixed.
I have manually compiled and installed v3.18.3 with my own API key but
it still does not work. Gnome team have advised that 3.18 is now
unsupported and latest stable is v3.36.
I cannot compile and install v3.36 due to other dependencies on updated
version glib not available in Ubuntu LTS.
Can the Ubuntu package maintainer please incorporate the upstream fix
from Gnome and update the package in the repository? as it stands this
is broke on 16.04LTS.
[Bug 1565744] Re: "Mutex file:${APACHE_LOCK_DIR} default" should be disabled by default on Linux because it leads to errors
2020-07-19 Thread Haw Loeung
Unfortunately, I'm not sure how best to reproduce this. I can tell you
that we were seeing this on really busy units.
Doesn't seem to be happening with 20.04, for now at least.
[Bug 1888160] [NEW] ClamAV needs updated to reflect security fixes
2020-07-19 Thread chris pollock
Public bug reported:
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
Release: 18.04
apt-cache policy clamav
clamav:
  Installed: 0.102.3+dfsg-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Candidate: 0.102.3+dfsg-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
The current version of ClamAV for 18.04.4 LTS is 0.102.3+dfsg-
0ubuntu0.18.04.1. The current stable version of ClamAV is 0.102.4. There
have been patches released that fix security related bugs as shown
below:
ClamAV 0.102.4 is a bug patch release to address the following issues:
CVE-2020-3350
Fixed a vulnerability a malicious user could exploit to replace a scan target's
directory with a symlink to another path to trick clamscan, clamdscan, or
clamonacc into removing or moving a different file (such as a critical system
file). The issue would affect users that use the --move or --remove options for
clamscan, clamdscan and clamonacc.
CVE-2020-3327
Fixed a vulnerability in the ARJ archive-parsing module in ClamAV 0.102.3 that
could cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. Improper bounds checking
resulted in an out-of-bounds read that could cause a crash. The previous fix
for this CVE in version 0.102.3 was incomplete. This fix correctly resolves the
issue.
CVE-2020-3481
Fixed a vulnerability in the EGG archive module in ClamAV 0.102.0 - 0.102.3
that could cause a denial-of-service (DoS) condition. Improper error handling
could cause a crash due to a NULL pointer dereference. This vulnerability is
mitigated for those using the official ClamAV signature databases because the
file type signatures in daily.cvd will not enable the EGG archive parser in
affected versions.
Request that ClamAV be updated to the latest version 0.102.4
[Bug 1565744] Re: "Mutex file:${APACHE_LOCK_DIR} default" should be disabled by default on Linux because it leads to errors
2020-07-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've packaged the fix for xenial in this branch:
https://code.launchpad.net/~bryce/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+git/apache2/+ref/ubuntu
/xenial-devel/
However I've not been able to construct a configuration+workload to
reproduce the error message.  Can someone describe a way to trigger the
messages synthetically (e.g. in an lxc container)?
Meanwhile, setting this to incomplete and dropping the server-next tag.
** Tags removed: server-next
** Changed in: apache2 (Ubuntu Xenial)
   Status: Triaged => Incomplete
