Can you please confirm
(1) The timing of "getent hosts indigosky.local", "host indigosky.local",
"nslookup indigosky.local" and "nslookup indigosky.local 192.168.235.1" all
done at the same time (mainly adding the direct lookup through the server,
wondering if nslookup is doing something weird in focal).
(2) The timings for the same if you switch mdns4 back to mdns4_minimal (but
remove everything else)

[Bug 1772556] Re: d-i netinstall fails due to missing apt-transport-https package

2020-07-21 Thread Matthew Ruffell
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

When installing over the network using a netinstall image with pxe boot
and with an https apt mirror, the installer fails with the error:

- Debootstrap error
+   Debootstrap error

- couldn't find these debs: apt-transport-https
+   couldn't find these debs: apt-transport-https

- Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details
-
- This happens due to apt-transport-https moving to universe from bionic
onward, but still being required by debootstrap when it sees a https apt
mirror, even though support for https mirrors is built into apt.
+   Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details
+
+ This happens due to apt-transport-https moving to universe from bionic
+ onward, but still being required by debootstrap when it sees a https apt
+ mirror, even though support for https mirrors is built into apt.

  [Testcase]

Use the 18.04.4 LTS netinstall ISO to PXE boot with a preseed that uses
a custom https apt mirror. Something like:

  ```
  d-i mirror/country string manual
  d-i mirror/protocol string https
  d-i mirror/https/hostname string mirrors.ptisp.pt
  d-i mirror/https/directory string /ubuntu/
  d-i mirror/https/proxy string
  ```

The installer will fail with the error in the impact section.
+
+ There are test packages for debootstrap available in the following PPA,
+ for both bionic and focal:
+
+ https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf289200-test
+
+ I have also built a test netinstall ISO with the test debootstrap
+ packages, and is available here:
+
+ https://people.canonical.com/~mruffell/sf289200/
+
+ You probably want to use mini.iso for PXE boot, but vmlinuz and
+ initrd.gz are provided as well.

  [Regression Potential]

The fix adds checks for specific distribution releases, so if someone is
trying to debootstrap a previous release where apt-transport-https is
still required, it will still function.

For users of newer releases, it simply omits the package. apt-transport-
https will still be available in universe if anyone still needs it.

If a regression did occur, users may not be able to access https apt
mirrors when using debootstrap. In this case, users can use a plain http
  mirror until things are fixed.

Due to apt-transport-https not being needed in bionic onward, due to
being built into apt directly, I believe this change won't introduce any
  regressions.

  [Other info]

The fix landed in upstream debootstrap in the following commit:

  commit 66cbaae642953beba8aec393f3eca076abd89a7d
  From: Hideki Yamane
  Date: Fri, 28 Feb 2020 00:10:25 +0900
Subject: select codename for apt-transport-https (Closes: #920255, #879755)
  Link:
https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/debootstrap/-/commit/66cbaae642953beba8aec393f3eca076abd89a7d

It adds a check for distro release name, and if they fall within Zesty
and prior, then it requires apt-transport-https, and if Artful and
  later, then it is omitted.

[Bug 1772556] Re: Can't find apt-transport-https

2020-07-21 Thread Matthew Ruffell
** Description changed:

- Upstream: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=879755
+ [Impact]

- When installing over the network with pxe boot and with an https apt
- mirror, the installer fails with the error:
+ When installing over the network using a netinstall image with pxe boot
+ and with an https apt mirror, the installer fails with the error:

Debootstrap error
+
+ couldn't find these debs: apt-transport-https
+
+ Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details

- couldn't find these debs: apt-transport-https
-
- Check /var/log/syslog or see virtual console 4 for the details
+ This happens due to apt-transport-https moving to universe from bionic
onward, but still being required by debootstrap when it sees a https apt
mirror, even though support for https mirrors is built into apt.
+
+ [Testcase]
+
+ Use the 18.04.4 LTS netinstall ISO to PXE boot with a preseed that uses
+ a custom https apt mirror. Something like:
+
+ ```
+ d-i mirror/country string manual
+ d-i mirror/protocol string https
+ d-i mirror/https/hostname string mirrors.ptisp.pt
+ d-i mirror/https/directory string /ubuntu/
+ d-i mirror/https/proxy string
+ ```
+
+ The installer will fail with the error in the impact section.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The fix adds checks for specific distribution releases, so if someone is
+ trying to debootstrap a previous release where apt-transport-https is
+ still required, it will still function.
+
+ For users of newer releases, it simply omits the package. apt-transport-
+ https will still be available in universe if anyone still needs it.
+
+ If a regression did occur, users may not be able to access https apt
+ mirrors when using debootstrap. In this case, users can use a plain http
+ mirror until things are fixed.
+
+ Due to apt-transport-https not being needed in bionic onward, due to
+ being built into apt directly, I believe this change won't introduce any
+ regressions.
+
+ [Other info]
+
+ The fix landed in upstream debootstrap in the following commit:
+
+ commit 66cbaae642953beba8aec393f3eca076abd89a7d
+ From: Hideki Yamane
+ Date: Fri, 28 Feb 2020 00:10:25 +0900
+ Subject: select codename for apt-transport-https (Closes: #920255, #879755)
+ Link:
https://salsa.debian.org/installer-team/debootstrap/-/commit/66cbaae642953beba8aec393f3eca076abd89a7d
+
+ It adds a check for distro release name, and if they fall within Zesty
+ and prior, then it requires apt-transport-https, and if Artful and
+ later, then it is omitted.

** Summary changed:

- Can't find apt-transport-https
+ d-i netinstall fails due to missing apt-transport-https package

[Bug 1888451] [NEW] regression: ubiquity/hide_slideshow true; crashes installer

2020-07-21 Thread erelson
Public bug reported:

My preseed file, if it includes `ubiquity/hide_slideshow true` option,
causes the installer to crash.

With Ubuntu 14.04, I've used this param successfully for preseeded
installs. With 20.04 (and also 18.04; so maybe 16.04 as well) preseed
installs, I've had to leave this parameter out of my preseed files.

Here's the traceback off my USB installer, afterwards, from writable
/install-logs-DATE/log/installer (Also attached are the full set of
logs):

2020-07-21 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I just realized this is the USB-C logic crashing in the kernel:

Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: Call Trace:
Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: ucsi_altmode_update_active+0xab/0xf0 [typec_ucsi]

Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: process_one_work+0x1eb/0x3b0
Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: worker_thread+0x4d/0x400
Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: kthread+0x104/0x140
Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: ? process_one_work+0x3b0/0x3b0
Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: ? kthread_park+0x90/0x90
Jul 21 20:31:20 volfe kernel: ret_from_fork+0x35/0x40

So it looks like a kernel bug.

[Bug 1879352] Re: /usr/bin/im-launch i3 fails

2020-07-21 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Please note that 'i3' is an argument to the command /usr/bin/im-launch,
not part of a file name. So the error message incorrectly says "No such
file or directory".

It would still be good if you could try to install im-config:

sudo apt purge im-config

Observed this one 2 separate cases, one Xubuntu 18.04 -> 20.04
installation where light-locker caused it and on a fresh Lubuntu 20.04,
that was converted to XFCE, where xscreensaver was the issue. Also had 3
other Xubuntu installations that went from 18.04 to 20.04 and did not
encounter these issues.

2020-07-21 Thread Luis Alberto Pabón
A workaround, if you really need auto-login, is to install lightdm (at
this point still choose gdm3), enable auto-login via gnome settings,
then switch to lightdm (sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3). Not sure why it
autologins but it does. Can't lock the gnome session however as not
using gdm anymore.

2020-07-21 Thread shag00
I ran the command as you requested but I had already removed GIMP so no
result was forthcoming. The ppa I refer to is the one which Ubuntu uses
as I installed via Discover (Kubuntu). I also tried the flatpack version
which did not work as I was missing some dependency. I have tried to
install also from links from the GIMP web page.

Contrary to your advice I installed GIMP and reran the command, I hope
this provided the information you were after.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1888329

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 245219] Re: Ubuntu archive server returning incorrect content-encoding - content-header incorrect type

I'm not sure why this is a problem now as the old archive servers were
doing the same thing. In any case, I've added the following to apache2
configs:

| AddType application/pgp-signature .gpg

Testing without:

What's the status for Ubuntu Focal?

How can I help to emphasize the importance of backporting the fix to the

[Bug 1659719] Re: ssh can't call a binary from a snap without the full path

2020-07-21 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
** Description changed:

- ssh can't call a binary from a snap, it will only work using the full
- path.
+ [impact]
+ ssh can't call a binary from a snap, it will only work using the full path.
+
+ [test case]
+ Create a container. Install the go snap (and make sure golang-go is not
installed). Run "ssh go version" and check the binary is found.
+
+ [regression potential]
+ It's a pam change an they are always a bit scary but the code follows the
existing pattern for updating PATH in /etc/environment and has been tested in
groovy.
+
+ [original description]

Let's say I have the hello snap installed in 192.168.122.24. Then:

  elopio@ubuntu-xenial:~/mosh$ ssh 192.168.122.24 hello
  elopio@192.168.122.24's password:
  bash: hello: command not found
  elopio@ubuntu-xenial:~/mosh$ ssh 192.168.122.24 /snap/bin/hello
  elopio@192.168.122.24's password:

[Bug 1886300] Re: rename.ul refuses to rename links that don't resolve (regression)

2020-07-21 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Hi Seyeong,

Thanks for the debdiffs!
They look good in general but need a few fixes:

1) groovy-proposed has util-linux 2.35.2-9ubuntu1 (debdiff used groovy-
updates / 2.35.2-7ubuntu3)

2) the DEP3 headers should be before a triple-dash "---" line per [1].
I'd suggest moving it to before/after the git format-patch headers.

3) Could you please report a bug to Debian and add the Bug-Debian DEP3 header?
Debian sid/unstable is still on 2.35.2-8 (fix landed in v2.36-rc2).
No need to wait on them, but just have the bug reported there too.

Did you build this on Launchpad PPAs?
Sometimes there are differences to local build environments that lead
to "interesting" issues to debug when it builds on PPAs. :-)

[1] https://dep-team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep3/
"A line containing 3 dashes (---) should stop the parsing: lines after it are
not relevant part of the meta-information."

Thanks,
Mauricio

2020-07-21 Thread fossfreedom
I've independently also confirmed all the tests as well.

As to Jacob's observation - I'm happy with this in that there is no
regression.

We'll look at Jacob's testing offline and resolve in a future v1.0.3
i.e. there is no immediate need to delay this microrelease.

2020-07-21 Thread Luan Carvalho Martins
This nearly five years old awful bug is still present in Inkscape 1.0
(1.0+r73+1). This is a show-stopper and render Inkscape useless for
scientific use. Too bad. I am currently using Boxy SVG (https://boxy-
svg.com), which is worse than Inkscape in all matters, but works for
complex files. IIf you, like me, is here because you are in the brink of

[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs

2020-07-21 Thread Diego
It also happens with driver nvidia-340.108 in elementary OS 5.1.6 Hera.
In my case the error happens with VLC when trying to open the Hikvision rstp
streaming (H264), the error lines run fast but stop when closing VLC.

I leave some lines of the error.

[Bug 1888423] Re: ras-mc-ctl doesn't provide BDF for PCIe errors

2020-07-21 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

- The ras-mc-ctl tool will extract and display PCIe AER events from the
- database, but it fails to identify the associated PCIe device.
- This information is stored in the database (has been since 0.6.5),
- so we just need to update ras-mc-ctl to include it.
+ [Impact]
+ rasdaemon provides a ras-mc-ctl, a tool for querying the rasdaemon database.
When displaying PCIe AER events from the
+ database, it doesn't provide any information to identify the associated PCIe
device. This information is already stored in the database (has been since
0.6.5 in focal), so we just need to update ras-mc-ctl to display it as well.

- I've recently had a patch accepted upstream to do just that:
-
https://github.com/mchehab/rasdaemon/commit/059a901e97f4091e31c50ce55027daf707638f8d
