MySQL collides with it's own previous versions. The Ubuntu packaging of
MySQL should start using a new path name like the MySQL.com packaging
started doing, see

[Bug 1887490] Re: Add/Backport EPYC-v3 and EPYC-Rome CPU model

2020-08-02 Thread Markus Schade
Plain qemu with the EPYC-Rome model works without any problems. I
already get xsave, xsaveopt, xsavec and xsaveerptr with the current
focal kernel, which also means that gcc finally uses znver1 (for v3) and
znver2 (for Rome) optimizations.

Libvirt would require cherrypicking a number of commits to enable support for
all CPU flags currently supported by focal qemu and for the additional AMD
flags from the mentioned patched.
I currently run a private build in production with the following patches added:

https://github.com/libvirt/libvirt/commits/master/src/cpu_map:

- cpu_map: Distinguish Cascadelake-Server from Skylake-Server (unrelated, but
recommended)
- cpu_map: Add pschange-mc-no bit in IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES MSR
- cpu_map: Request test files update when adding x86 features
- cpu_map: Add missing x86 features in 0x7 CPUID leaf
- cpu_map: Add missing x86 features in 0x8008 CPUID leaf

Plus the attached patch which defines an EPYC-Rome type (without any
tests), so not quite ready for upstream

** Attachment added: "Add-EPYC-ROME-x86-CPU-model"

[Bug 1890005] Re: qemu-system-x86-xen default path should match xen libexec_bin path

2020-08-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
@Marietto - you have essentially become our xen-community (feels like
from zero to one) which won't make xen fully supported again, but if we
identify issues that are rather easy to fix we can try to make them
work.

Just to manage expectations thou, those changes will be very unlikely to
be SRU backported as that would be plenty of downloads (and slight
regression chance) for the majority of users while helping a (almost non
existent) minority.

Therefore I'd ask you to help me to polish xen to the needs of ubuntu-
xen users with activity on this (and potentially similar bugs), but
you'll need to use the most recent Ubuntu versions then to receive the
fixes.

For now let's see if the test builds of qemu (once built) will be helpful ...

[Bug 1890005] Re: can't complete the installation : internal error : libxenlight failed to create new domain

2020-08-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
If I'm not mistaken this path is from m4/virt-driver-libxl.m4 build time
detection.

 34 if test "x$with_libxl" = "xyes" ; then

 35 LIBXL_FIRMWARE_DIR=$($PKG_CONFIG --variable xenfirmwaredir xenlight)

 36 LIBXL_EXECBIN_DIR=$($PKG_CONFIG --variable libexec_bin xenlight)

 37 fi

 38

root@g:~# apt install libxen-dev
root@g:~# pkg-config --variable libexec_bin xenlight
/usr/lib/xen-4.11/bin

We can't change the path, as all things "really" provided by xen are (and have
to be) in that place. But actually this is a benefit of the split qemu build,
we could consider making qemu-system-x86-xen to just push things into those
paths.

That way defaults would work AND it would no more have to conflict with the non
-xen variant.
I'll spin a PPA for this, but we'd want to check for side effects and revert
the change on bad reports.

[Bug 1890005] Re: can't complete the installation : internal error : libxenlight failed to create new domain

2020-08-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
The defaults of virt-manager for xen are not 100% compatible for Ubuntu's Xen.
I've shown that when discussing about the last bug in my example how to get it
working I mentioned how to adapt (c) of your list above.

Get this fixed by:
1. Install the qemu build you need for yen
  apt install qemu-system-x86-xen
2a. set the emulator path to /usr/bin/qemu-system-i386
OR
2b. link the expected to the real path (avoids that you'd need to do this for
every domain)
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/qemu-system-i386 /usr/lib/xen-4.11/bin/qemu-system-i386

One would either need to move the xen default paths in src:xen or teach
virt-manager about better defaults. This moved around so much for xen I'm even
unsure which component sets the wrong default.
Was at /usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm, /usr/libexec/qemu-kvm,
/usr/lib/xen-$(ver)/bin/qemu-system-i386 ...

Since it is listed in the capabilities probing result I'd even expect
virt-manager gets it from libvirt - to libvirt might be the right source
package of this after all. But since xen was demoted that is low prio -
happy to help thou if someone of the community steps up providing a fix
after debugging where the probe results gets the wrong path.

[Bug 1856608] Re: [Regression] usb usb2-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

2020-08-02 Thread Bamoqi
I can confirm this issue in 20.04 linux-image-5.4.0-42. This message
only appear for my usb3.1 gen1 type-c hub when it is connected on boot.
If I re-plug the hub after boot, the message stops. It doesn't appear
for another connected usb3 type-a hub.

In /var/log/syslog, it prints every 4 seconds:

the USB cable is bad?

Looks like it's a duplicate of already expired bug 1850502. Since I'm
able to reproduce this by playing YouTube video streaming, I'm to set
that bug as a duplicate of this instead.

[Bug 1890097] [NEW] [RM] sgabios - swallowed by the only user (qemu)

2020-08-02 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Public bug reported:

This is the Ubuntu counterpart to Debian https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=966598

99% copy of the Debian bug text:

Package sgabios provides a variant of x86 BIOS/firmware. It was
only used by qemu system emulation in Debian. The upstream development
stopped many years ago, and now it is maintained within the only its
user, qemu, and is built from qemu sources too (qemu-system-data
package, /usr/share/qemu/sgabios.bin). Package sgabios is not useful
by its own.

While it does not really hurt , I guess, to keep this package in the
archive, I also don't see a reason for that.

sgabios has rather high numbers on the popcon data. This is because
it's been suggested by qemu for quite some time.

Also this package is in Depends: of libguestfs0. This is okay, since
qemu-system-data provides sgabios (and conflicts with it), so the
dependency is satisfied by qemu-system-data which is a required
dependency of qemu-system-x86 anyway. A Debian bugreport was filed for
libguestfs0 to remove the explicit dependency on sgabios, which
is #966596 , but it is completely optional due to this Provides.

Please consider removing sgabios from Groovy.

[Bug 1890095] [NEW] Enabling hyper-V blue-screens Windows 10 2004 / 19041

2020-08-02 Thread Robert Collins
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this should be on kvm or libvirt etc. Anyhow, back in 2017
kvm with nested enabled running hyper-v running vms was documented as
being a thing that works, but trying to make that work today I'm just
getting blue screens and recovery boots of Windows.

cat /etc/modprobe.d/kvm_intel.conf
options kvm-intel nested=1
options kvm-intel enable_shadow_vmcs=1

This is important for regular Windows 10 guests for several use cases:
WSL 2 interop testing, Windows 10's VBS and HVCI
(https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/device-
experiences/oem-vbs) security features. Making Windows 10 guests secure
is important to prevent them become vectors for attack into a network.

[Bug 1889998] Re: Settings > Power suggests wifi "can" be turned off not "will" be turned off

2020-08-02 Thread Samee
Oh, that's slightly disappointing. Feel free to close this then. My
2-cent suggestion will be to replace those buttons completely with just
a caption directing the user to other parts of the control panel. It's a
bit confusing to have this button here given a more prominent section
for enabling/disabling wifi and bluetooth already exists in the panel
(and outside, in the indicator).

If I want to file a feature request to add the feature I was looking for,
should I file a separate issue? The feature being to introduce a way to disable
automatically disconnecting the wifi when laptop is idle.

I'll still need to figure out if this requires support from
NetworkManager, or if it already exposes an interface. I'll leave this
link here for anyone who wants to investigate further:
https://gist.github.com/jcberthon/ea8cfe278998968ba7c5a95344bc8b55

FWIW, the feature seems to have a modest demand given 56 stars on the
linked github gist.

[Bug 1889998] Re: Toggling wifi power-management also toggles wifi connection

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This looks like just a poorly designed GUI. It suggests that wifi "can"
be turned off when it should probably say this "will" turn off wifi
immediately.

So I don't think there's any functional bug here. Just a GUI design
issue.

[Bug 1890001] Re: Random stuttering while in game

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This sounds similar to bug 1883456... Please:

1. Try opening the 'Extensions' app and disable 'Ubuntu AppIndicators'.
Does that fix it?

2. Run 'top' and tell us if any process is using high CPU.

3. Run the following commands after you have experienced the issue:

   journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
   gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and attach the resulting text files here.

[Bug 1890084] Re: show app not work

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like you're referring to a dock button. So that we can find
out more about the system please run:

  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.shell > settings.txt

and then attach the resulting text file.

Please also attach a screenshot of the issue/button/menu if you can.
Just press PrtScn and look in the Pictures folder.

[Bug 1890050] Re: Mouse malfunction when launching steam

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The attached XorgLog.txt shows the mouse is repeatedly:

[ 28256.417] (II) event4 - USB OPTICAL MOUSE: device removed

So this might be a hardware problem or a kernel bug. Try plugging it
into a different port, or try a different mouse.

And your kernel log shows similar problems. It might be a problem with

[Bug 1875528] Re: Extra frozen / stuck mouse cursor after auto screen lock / sleep

Yes I'm on 20.04 now and the issue produces the exact same result seen
in the photograph when it goes to sleep. This bug is the only reason I
can't use ubuntu daily currently.

[Bug 1889686] Re: [focal] [nvidia] Patch causes small text: x11-Add-support-for-fractional-scaling-using-Randr.patch

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I see now. It's hard to judge by screenshots because the shrinkage is
not dramatic.

And in case anyone is wondering the affected version was mutter
3.36.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1pop1~1594405059~20.04~8e2b857

Obviously we would like to fix this but it might be difficult if there
is no way to reproduce it in regular Ubuntu. Looks like some kind of
interaction between Pop!OS patches and the Ubuntu patch.

[Bug 1874217] Re: [nvidia] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause tiled windows to occupy 1.5 monitors

2020-08-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Comment #37 suggested the fix for bug 1874567 does not work for this
one. But maybe the final fix will. Rather than asking people here to
test a proposed package I suggest just waiting until the fix for bug
1874567 is formally released to updates (soon). Then the status of this
bug will be more clear.

[Bug 1759014] Re: Netplan has no way to control DHCP client

2020-08-02 Thread Adam Kosseck
@ddstreet I've been looking into a different issue, which is due to the Netplan
renderer.
The renderer defaults to networkd on server/cloud and NetworkManager on
Desktop. Some apps expect NetworkManager, and break on systems configured with
networkd (e.g. UI network config, apt-daily, etc).

It's possible that the issue above needs to be tested against both
renderers as it may behave differently in each case?

[Bug 1888598] Re: pulseaudio has is buggy with hdmi audio and sleep/wake

2020-08-02 Thread Tessa
I'm seeing another fun intermittent issue after waking from sleep on my
system. sometimes after resume, the audio is really static-y, until i
turn the volume down one notch and back up again. next time it happens
I'll attach the logs again, just to see if there's anything illuminating
there. it only happens maybe ~5% of the time, so it might be a while
until I can reproduce.

[Bug 1761216] Re: Backup fails if backup destination is not mounted

2020-08-02 Thread Michael Terry
OK, then yah, I suspect the change I recently made should fix this:
deja-dup now checks fstab and mounts the target location before a backup
starts.

You should be able to test it by installing the latest edge snap:
snap install deja-dup --classic --edge

[Bug 1890061] [NEW] MATE Focal "amplified" sound controls do not sync with keyboard buttons

2020-08-02 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

I probably have the package wrong but I was grabbing at straws :^)

Just recently testing Ubuntu MATE 20.04.1 release candidates and I
notice that you can increase volume beyond 100% by opening Sound
Settings, and once you've done that you can also increase beyond 100%
using the volume "widget" in indicator-applet, but I've tested on three
different sets of hardware and the volume buttons on the keyboards fail
to increase beyond 100%.

In fact if you're above 100% and try to bump the volume down slightly it
will drop all the way to 100% and can't be increased beyond that without
access to the "volume widget" so if you're viewing videos in full screen
you first have to exit full screen and then readjust above 100%. So it's
kind of a show-stopper for those using the OS on an HTPC.

This had effected Ubuntu Bionic but was fixed in 18.10 and remains fixed
in Focal - see bug #1817625. I've no idea what they changed to achieve
that. Testing Focal live sessions only it seems that this same Focal bug
also effects Kubuntu and Xubuntu, but they were only tested in live
sessions whereas I've tested Ubuntu MATE as an installed OS.

As mentioned above in Ubuntu this now does work poroperly, and also
works properly using the flashback session but you must either first set
"above 100%" in the Ubuntu interface or go to dconf-editor >
com.ubuntu.sound, which I did also try in MATE but to no avail.

Howtofixit

1) replace “Exec zfs mount -a” to “Exec zpool import -a” in systemd
service file for zfs

2) uncomment “#zfs” to “zfs” in /lib/modules-load/somefile

3) make snapshot for pool with problems, attach snapshot as pool to

I had to reinstall again for some unrelated issues and this bug happened
again in the exact same moment. If you consider a bug being the first
thing a user gets when they install, to be normal behavior, then sure,
leave it as invalid. I guess it's a feature, to make it feel more like
windows.
