I have a USB 3.0 Portable Monitor that works well under Win10, but when
I reboot the same laptop under Ubuntu 20.04, it's not recognized...

Downloaded the Asus MB169B+ Driver:
https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Monitors/MB169BPlus/HelpDesk_Download/
Version 5.3.1 2020/06/15
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LCD%20Monitors/MB16AP/ASUS_MB_Series_driver_for_Ubuntu_5.3.1.zip

Extracted the zip file:
ASUS_MB_Series_driver_for_Ubuntu_5.3.1.zip

Ran the command to make it executable:
chmod 755 displaylink-driver-5.3.1.34.run

Executed the file:
sudo ./displaylink-driver-5.3.1.34.run

Install completed, rebooted the machine

Monitor still in idle mode (orange button - if it was recognized, it
would be white)

[Bug 1890865] [NEW] Nouveau X.org: Stale texture data and flicker in small SDL2 program

2020-08-07 Thread Kevin Cahalan
Public bug reported:

Video of bug: https://youtu.be/O0__VNN9G_o

At 0:11 in the video you see old web browser data showing up in my
program.

At 0:19 when I close a window in my program the texture for my piano key letters
flicker. By luck the texture for my keys sometimes flickers to stuff previously
displayed on my desktop. This flickering is linked to my mouse
movement/placement.

When I run my program with the proprietary 440 NVIDIA driver things work fine.
I am on Ubuntu budgie 20.04 using XFCE on X.org X11.

The SDL2 program source:

[Bug 1889992] Re: Ubuntu Focal Fossa freezes spontaneously -- must power off when this happens

2020-08-07 Thread Bill Yikes
The apport-collect command does not seem to give a way to save to a
file, so there's no way for users to inspect the data before sending.
The man page for apport-collect says "Bug reports can be written to a
file by using the --save option or by using apport-cli."

The --save option is not part of the syntax, and when it's used the
response is "apport-collect: error: no such option: --save". The
apport-cli certainly has a --save option, but that only grabs "non-
crash" telemetry.

We need to pick the upstream fix

and we should probably pick

1f8266ff5884 (fix-setuid) apparmor: don't try to replace stale label in

to avoid other problems.

We didn't pick this up automatically because its fixes tag is for when
ptrace rules landed upstream. But ubuntu was carrying ptrace rules prior
to this

[Bug 1890858] [NEW] AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

Public bug reported:

On some focal 20.04 systems, users are seeing "QEMU/KVM - Not Connected"
when they attempt to use virt-manager to manage virtual machines.
AppArmor denials like the following are seen in the logs:

[Bug 1890672] Re: secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2

2020-08-07 Thread Don Bowman
ok, can i at least assume that shim is not required? that was my main issue.
i wanted a single unencrypted file (grub + initramfs by another name:), and, my
chain of trust.

that is the key for me, if there is a requirement to only use shim and
the microsoft keys, i'm in trouble.

if its simply that canonical doesn't test w/o shim, that's ok. But it
seems empirically that shim is now a hard requirement since the valid
signed kernel no longer validates w/ this patch of grub.

i guess also to the original bug from the original author here, perhaps
removing the no-longer-supported option from grub doc would be good? the
set check_signatures=no

[Bug 1890672] Re: secure boot fails after upgrade to grub2-common 2.04-1ubuntu26.2

2020-08-07 Thread Steve Langasek
This is definitively not a bug in the Ubuntu grub2 package. You have
installed a third-party tool, on which the Ubuntu developers have never
been consulted, that redirects the grub installation and claims to be
more secure, but has not tracked the evolution of SecureBoot support in
Ubuntu over the past 5 years.

Use of custom SecureBoot key databases and self-signed binaries is fine,
but where this is incompatible with the Ubuntu grub2 package, this is
not supported.

[Bug 1886775] Re: kernel 5.4.0-40 hangs system when using nfs home directories

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1886277 ***

Same problem here over kernel 5.4.0-42. My logs look more similar to the
logs of this bug than to the logs of bug #1886277.

We are using NFS too, but not for home directories, just for shared
mounts. We are using autofs and kerberos authentication too (FreeIPA).

[Bug 1890851] [NEW] Evolution ignores authentication changes; uses OAuth even after change

2020-08-07 Thread Jeffrey Walton
Public bug reported:

I'm working on Ubuntu 18.04, x86_64, fully patched. I installed
Evolution package 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2. I'm trying to use Evolution
with my Gmail account. I've set up my [Evolution] application password
in Google security services. I have an app password for Evolution.

When I attempt to use Evolution for Gmail I am being prompted for OAuth
credentials. I cancel the OAuth prompt, I go to properties and then:

* Receiving Email -> check for supported types
* Receiving Email -> change to "password"
* Sending Email -> check for supported types
* Sending Email -> change to "login" (also tried "plain")

I then try to send and receive and I am prompted for the OAuth password.
Derp... Entering the [Evolution] application password results in a
failed login.

It is very frustrating that Evolution does not honor my settings.

[Bug 1885662] Re: please provide 4MB firmware builds

2020-08-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package edk2 - 2020.05-3

---
edk2 (2020.05-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Provide 4MB OVMF images as the existing 2MB images no longer
have sufficient variable space for the current Secure Boot Forbidden
Signature Database. LP: #1885662.
  * Update fw descriptors to reference 4M images instead of their 2M
counterparts. This will migrate tools that use the descriptor interface
(like libvirt) over to the 4M images when creating new VMs. Existing 2M
VMs will require manual migration.
  * Add a 4M snakeoil variable template and drop the 2M version. This will
break existing snakeoil VMs, but that should be OK for a test/devel
facility.
  * Increase autopkgtest timeout from 30s to 60s. LP: #1885186.

good idea please try to report it there.

[Bug 1890415] Re: Lenovo ThinkPad X390 won’t boot while plugged in

2020-08-07 Thread Alex Delifer
I've downgraded to firmware 1.73 through the Gnome Firmware application.
The issue is not present on this version and I can reboot like a normal person.
I suppose I can figure out if it's 1.74 or 1.75 that breaks it.

Not really sure where to report this, I don't think it's Ubuntu
specific, I use Arch and only tried Ubuntu to see if the issue exists
here, it doesn't seem to exist on Windows 10, or at least I didn't
notice while I was running that earlier this month.

Maybe we should report here?
https://github.com/fwupd/firmware-lenovo-thinkpad

To be safe, I've been factory resetting the bios when flashing just in
case something weird gets brought over.

[Bug 1890848] [NEW] 'ptrace trace' needed to readlink() /proc/*/ns/* files

2020-08-07 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Public bug reported:

Per 'man namespaces':

"Permission to dereference or read (readlink(2)) these symbolic links is
governed by a ptrace access mode PTRACE_MODE_READ_FSCREDS check; see
ptrace(2)."

This suggests that a 'ptrace read' rule should be sufficient to
readlink() /proc/*/ns/*, which is the case with 5.4.0-42.46-generic
(Ubuntu 20.04 LTS).

However, on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and 16.04 LTS, 'ptrace trace' is needed.
Here is a reproducer:

$ cat ./readlink-ns.c
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include
#include

void usage() {
fprintf(stderr, "Usage: readlink-ns -p  -n \n");
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
pid_t pid = 0;
char *ns = NULL;
char path[PATH_MAX] = {};
char rpath[PATH_MAX] = {};
int c;

while ((c = getopt(argc, argv, "hn:p:")) != -1) {
switch(c) {
case 'n':
ns = optarg;
break;
case 'p':
pid = atoi(optarg);
break;
case 'h':
usage();
return 0;
case '?':
usage();
return 1;
default:
return 1;
}
}

int n = snprintf(path, sizeof(path), "/proc/%d/ns/%s", pid, ns);
if (n < 0 || (size_t)n >= sizeof(path)) {
fprintf(stderr, "cannot format string\n");
return 1;
}
path[n] = '\0';
printf("path:  %s\n", path);

n = readlink(path, rpath, sizeof(rpath));
if (n < 0) {
perror("readlink()");
return 1;
} else if (n == sizeof(rpath)) {
fprintf(stderr, "cannot readlink()\n");
return 1;
}
printf("rpath: %s\n", rpath);

return 0;
}

$ cat ./readlink-ns.apparmor
#include

profile test {
  #include

  # focal
  ptrace (read) peer="unconfined",

  # xenial, bionic
  #ptrace (trace) peer="unconfined",
}

# bionic and xenial need 'ptrace trace'

[Bug 1816497] Re: [snap] vaapi chromium no video hardware decoding

2020-08-07 Thread Marc Lijour
This used to do the trick for me. Since an upgrade to 20.04 the decoding is not
working properly. Chromium (86 here) is not calling MojoVideoDecoder.
https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/08/how-to-enable-hardware-accelerated.html

That may be related to a switch to the iHD driver (active now according to
vainfo). I noticed other problems with ffpmeg for screengrabbing.

[Bug 1890845] [NEW] update ENA driver for LLQ acceleration mode, new hw support

2020-08-07 Thread Kamal Mostafa
Public bug reported:

Update the Amazon ENA driver in focal-generic with all upstream commits
from mainline and net-next, through:

0e3a3f6dacf0 net: ena: support new LLQ acceleration mode

The commits are all cherry-picks or light context backports; touches
only the ENA driver.

The driver update provides new hardware support, fixes, and features
required to support future ENA devices at AWS.

I have smoke-tested the build; no problems noted.
