[Bug 1871721] Re: Second Monitor on HDMI blank screen/blink screen with Nvidia + Intel & Ubuntu 20.04? (ASUS Laptop)

2020-08-16 Thread Oleg B
I just want to add that I have the same problem on my Asus N552VW. I
have managed to make it work from day 1, so hopefully this can help
someone until the proper bug fix is provided.

I have a laptop and an external monitor plugged via HDMI, everything is
turned off. Simply turn on the laptop and load the OS, input your
login/pass and get into system. Now close the laptop lid, then turn of
the monitor.

This are the only steps I can make an external monitor work with 20.04,
kernel 5.4.

[Bug 1856608] Re: [Regression] usb usb2-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

2020-08-16 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi @jeremyn54

> the error can be consistently reproduced on both signed and testing
kernels.

Reproduced on the test kernel? The one that I built in the ppa? If
that's the case, then "usb: handle warm-reset port requests on hub
resume" might not be to blame after all.

I had a look at your kernel log:

> usb usb4-port2: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

The bad device is usb4-port2 in your system. The log's don't show what
device this is. It only mentions the root hub, and not the device:

usb usb4: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0003, bcdDevice= 5.04
usb usb4: New USB device strings: Mfr=3, Product=2, SerialNumber=1
usb usb4: Product: xHCI Host Controller
usb usb4: Manufacturer: Linux 5.4.0-42-generic xhci-hcd
usb usb4: SerialNumber: :00:14.0

We need to know what device is plugged into "port 2" of that hub, i.e.
"usb 4-2". Can you try determine what the device is?

[Bug 1851518] Re: [950SBE/951SBE, Realtek ALC298, Speaker, Internal] No sound on internal speakers, very very quiet on headphones

2020-08-16 Thread gannon1
@John Hoff

Darn. Let's try something else.

I submitted a kernel patch adding model=alc298-samsung-headphone (see
attached). It exposes the quirk that fixed my Samsung Notebook 9 Pro as
a "model" option that you can pass to snd_hda_intel. Give it a try:

1) Apply my patch to the linux kernel, compile, and run it.
(Alternatively, wait until my patch lands in your favorite linux
distribution's kernel binary and then upgrade.)

2) echo "options snd-hda-intel model=alc298-samsung-headphone" >
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

3) Reboot

I tested on my Samsung Notebook 9 Pro (NP930MBE-K04US) which runs Arch.
The filename in step 2) might be different for Ubuntu.

There are a few problems with the testcase:

- As stated above, it can't run under as a non-root user. For example,
  this won't work:

def start_rabbitmq_server
  fork do
exec('/usr/lib/rabbitmq/bin/rabbitmq-server')
  end

  pidfile = File.join($tmpdir, 'mnesia', 'bunny.pid')
  run('/usr/lib/rabbitmq/bin/rabbitmqctl', 'wait', pidfile)

  run('./bin/ci/before_build')
end

- The file "bunny.pid" isn't (always) named like that. Here, for
  example, it's named "bunny@${HOST}.pid". This will break the
  following code:

pidfile = File.join($tmpdir, 'mnesia', 'bunny.pid')
run('/usr/lib/rabbitmq/bin/rabbitmqctl', 'wait', pidfile)

- It tries to "pkill epmd", which also won't work when run as non-root.

It seems to me like this test should be ex

[Bug 1891841] [NEW] x11vnc refresh is slow when using XUbuntu desktop

2020-08-16 Thread Matthew Caron
Public bug reported:

When viewing the desktop exported via x11vnc, refresh rates are slow.

1.) This happens irrespective of client / client machine (Remmina,
TightVNC viewer, RealVNC viewer), so it's not the client.

2.) iperf shows 900mbps+ bandwidth between clients and server (gigE
wired connection).

3.) Refresh rate gets worse as screen resolution increases (HD is
reasonably usable, say 500ms between refreshes based on looking at
gkrellm graphs, but 4K is more like 3 seconds between redraws).

4.) It does not do this if logged in to a Mate desktop, leading me to
believe it's XFCE, not x11vnc.

5.) This worked fine on 18.04, at 4k - no discernable lag. Everything
else remains the same, just this was updated from 18.04 to 20.04.

I stumbled upon this failure while analyzing the reason for rabbitmq-
server's block on the -proposed queue. By the looks of it, the block
and this FTBFS are related.

[Bug 1891684] Re: [amdgpu] Screen flickers after resuming from suspend

2020-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also, please don't use Alt+F2. This command needs to be run in the
Terminal app:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

But only using the steps from comment #2. And then use the Files app to
retrieve the file.

[Bug 1839764] Re: Video cuts out after 3 seconds

2020-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 19.04 (disco) reached end-of-life on January 23, 2020.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

[Bug 1890012] Re: Could not install 'systemd-shim'

2020-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears package 'systemd-shim' stopped existing after Ubuntu 16.04,
so that's part of the problem. Please try purging it with:

 sudo dpkg -P systemd-shim

This bug is either 'Fix Released', 'Invalid' or 'Won't Fix'. Because
it's not a problem in any package we distribute any more.

[Bug 1890930] Re: Xorg freeze

2020-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In case the freeze was actually a crash somewhere, please try following
these instructions:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:

Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where

[Bug 1891713] Re: I am unable to resize windows by clicking on the tops of them and dragging after gnome-shell restarted due to low performance.

2020-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like gnome-shell crashed, which will make everything freeze
and the screen flash for a moment as it restarts. The apps keep running
because Xorg is still running and never crashed. So...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash

[Bug 1891801] Re: watchdog should start after basic.target

2020-08-16 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
For sbd:

[Unit]
Description=Shared-storage based fencing daemon
Documentation=man:sbd(8)
Before=pacemaker.service
Before=dlm.service
After=systemd-modules-load.service iscsi.service
PartOf=corosync.service
RefuseManualStop=true
RefuseManualStart=true

...

I could add:

After=watchdog.service

so sbd starts after watchdog service is up, if properly discussed,
justified.

[Bug 1891801] Re: watchdog should start after basic.target

2020-08-16 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Hello Christoph,

Why do you think that ? Could you be more prolix about this change and
what are the pros and cons of making this change ? An example on how
you're setting up your cluster using sbd and watchdog would be also good
to corroborate your request.

From:

https://wiki.clusterlabs.org/wiki/Using_SBD_with_Pacemaker

I have:

"""Ensure that the sbd daemon is running on a node before starting the
cluster services. The best approach is generally to enable it to start
at boot. (The cluster can't manage the sbd daemon as a cluster
resource.) There are two flavors of SBD, sbd for cluster nodes, and
sbd_remote for Pacemaker Remote nodes. Here we use sbd as an example,
but for Pacemaker Remote nodes, replace sbd with sbd_remote:"""

Note: sbd has to start before corosync and pacemaker. It would be good
to have watchdog already working, so you're probably right... but that
change should be done in sbd.service and not watchdog (as watchdog is a
"generic" service that serves other purposes than pacemaker/fence-
agents).

and

"""With watchdog-only SBD, the cluster must have true quorum. Thus, it can only
be used in a cluster with three or more nodes, or a two-node cluster with
external quorum (such as corosync using qdevice with a third node).
Configure the basic setup on every node as described above.
Select a recovery interval (in seconds) that is greater than
SBD_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT in /etc/sysconfig/sbd."""

I assume the ordering has something to do with unfencing (from fence_sbd
+ watchdog setup) but I also know that those type of unfencing (like
fence_mpath and fence_iscsi) are not supported "automatically" (meaning
that any time there is a cluster split, a manual intervention is
required).

Looking forward to reading more about your request.

Thanks

-rafaeldtinoco

[Bug 1880402] Re: timezone for Dublin is incorrect in installer

2020-08-16 Thread PaulPriest
I experienced this too.
During the installation - the time presented for Dublin _was_ offset by one
hour from London, despite sharing the same UTC offset and DST dates.
Additionally, the map highlighed the wrong areas.
I went with London like the OP.

Post installation, switching to Dublin resulted in the same apparent
time as London, but the graphic was still wrong.

I wonder if this stems from the fact that "Irish Standard Time" is
abbreviated "IST", which is known to alias with the abbreviation IST
from several other timezones?

[Bug 1872118] Re: [SRU] DHCP Cluster crashes after a few hours

2020-08-16 Thread Richard Laager
First I reverted isc-dhcp-server back to the original focal version, since I
had an updated version from the PPA:
$ sudo apt install isc-dhcp-server=4.4.1-2.1ubuntu5
isc-dhcp-common=4.4.1-2.1ubuntu5

Then I install the update packages:
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install libdns-export1109/focal-proposed
libirs-export161/focal-proposed libisc-export1105/focal-proposed
$ dpkg --status libdns-export1109 libirs-export161 libisc-export1105 | grep
Version
Version: 1:9.11.16+dfsg-3~ubuntu1
Version: 1:9.11.16+dfsg-3~ubuntu1
Version: 1:9.11.16+dfsg-3~ubuntu1

Then I restarted dhcpd:
sudo systemctl restart isc-dhcp-server

It has been running for four hours on both systems.

[Bug 1876497] Re: clamtk scan checks ' Show Hidden Files ' checkbox automatically

2020-08-16 Thread ipv
@Dave M

please have a look here :

https://postimg.cc/CBFSWWfn

the empty check box next to the view button could may be be replaced
with an eye icon as the check box serves no purpose since it never gets
checked, just my 2 cents.

also a double click to activate feature in the clamtk gui if possible
would be wonderful.

am on version 6.02 & am being told by the gui that an update is
available so yes version 6.06 in the 'buntu repositories would be
awesome.

have a super day.

[Bug 1876497] Re: clamtk scan checks ' Show Hidden Files ' checkbox automatically

2020-08-16 Thread ipv
@Dave M

hey dave!

tried as you directed but after that the ' Scan a directory ' button in
clamtk stopped responding, so i rolled back the changes.

what needs to be done is :

01. in sub select file edit line 583 from >>> $dialog->set_show_hidden(
TRUE ); <<< to >>> $dialog->set_show_hidden( FALSE ); <<<

02. in sub select directory edit line 621 from >>>
$dialog->set_show_hidden( TRUE ); <<< to >>> $dialog->set_show_hidden(
FALSE ); <<<

the hidden files no more show up automatically in the home folder after
a scan via clamtk.

could be wrong but i guess that rectifies the issue, you would know
better.
