This validation is blocking the commit for the bug 1892440 (that has
exhaustively already validated).

I've also tried to reproduce adding a delay (sleep 0.1) between the
commands, but without success.

I've tried:
$ xinput (to get the number of my mouse)
$ while true; do xinput disable ; sleep 0.1; xinput enable ; sleep 0.1;
done

[Bug 1558886] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in _clutter_input_device_reset_scroll_info()

2020-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
There's no sense stalling the entire focal update for just this fix. We
have tried to verify it and the results are inconclusive.

Given that https://errors.ubuntu.com/ is showing the crash reliably up
to and including gnome-shell 3.36.4, we can use that as the final
verification. If the crash continues to be reported after that then we
can just reopen this bug.

[Bug 1892440] Re: Shell text with wrong size in mutter 3.36.4-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 (mostly on Nvidia)

2020-10-05 Thread Cristiano Nunes
Hi, @vanvugt.

The bug 1558886 is a bit complicated to reproduce. I also have tried
some times.

In this case, it would be possible to mark the bug 1558886 as "opened
until validation" and commit the fix for this current bug 1892440 to the
"-updates"?

Because, if we wait someone validate the bug 1558886, it may be that
this fix is stuck forever.

[Bug 1897853] Re: [regression] gnome-shell stutters noticeably with kernel 5.8.0-19, but not 5.8.0-18

2020-10-05 Thread Carlos Pita
FWIW today 3.38 was released to Arch stable repo and I tested it using
kernel 5.8.10 and 5.8.13. For the same governor, energy performance and
gpu min freq settings, stuttering in the overview has increased a bit
(HiDPI screen & 620, I think you already know that at this point).
Anyway I've seen many fluctuations since 3.34 when using different
kernels so it doesn't surprise me, seems like subtle timing issues that
probably won't be 100% fixed by freq scaling alone but also by the
additional buffering provided by !1441. Will take a look at Ubuntu beta
this weekend and let you know about my experience there.

This is something quite unexpected. When the finger is away from the
toucpad, is there any output from `sudo hid-recorder`? For my laptop,
the same HId report will be repeatedly received by hid-recorder because
amd_gpio_irq_handler is called repeatedly. If amd_gpio_irq_handler is
not called when you don't use the touchpad, then "echo out > direction"
is really a solution and your guess that amd-pinctrl has incorrect
configuration the direction is absolutely right.

no, wrong. when run : echo out > direction,
dmesg say :
[ 133.854926] i2c_hid i2c-MSFT0001:00: i2c_hid_get_input: IRQ triggered but

only one time,

no keeping popping up after moving your finger away from the touchpad.

it's only one line .

when run : echo out > direction,
dmesg show one time no data msg.no more,
then change pin value,to 0 or to 1,
no msg output.

but ,when value = 1, touchpad not work,
when value =0,touchpad can work.

2020-10-05 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Generally it's unnecessary to install kernel headers if you don't need
extra kernel components like DKMS. They're already in the Suggested
section of a kernel image package.

[Bug 1881401] Re: HPLIP, hp-doctor, hp-check should support Ubuntu 20.04 LTS with its package base

2020-10-05 Thread Webmaster4362
So long as the cups package is installed it should "just work" -

by default is available at http://localhost:631/admin. The web interface
can be used to perform all printer management tasks."

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2020-10-05 Thread Coiby Xu
@wangjun Thank you for doing this experiment!

1. When the touchpad works by setting pin's direction=out, you could see
lots of "no data" message ("IRQ triggered but there's no data") keeping
popping up after moving your finger away from the touchpad, am I
correct?

2. When pin's direction=out, does only one new "no data" message or
multiple ones appear on the screen when you toggle the pin value?

[Bug 1898647] Re: deleted the ppa, yet can't upgrade

2020-10-05 Thread Chris Guiver
I note you're using LXDE as your desktop, and your system includes
`lubuntu-desktop`.

Lubuntu 18.04 LTS was the last Lubuntu release that used LXDE, and the
Lubuntu team provide the following note in their release notes

https://lubuntu.me/focal-1-released/

"Note, due to the extensive changes required for the shift in desktop
environments, the Lubuntu team does not support upgrading from 18.04 or
below to any greater release. Doing so will result in a broken system.
If you are on 18.04 or below and would like to upgrade, please do a
fresh install."

Even if the upgrade completes successfully, you still may not have a
stable/reliable desktop experience, and thus why a fresh install is the
recommend way to upgrade.

[Bug 1898656] [NEW] Firefox not playing YouTube videos in Virtualbox on Xubuntu

2020-10-05 Thread BertN45
Public bug reported:

In Xubuntu Firefox does not play videos of e.g. YouTube or the Dutch TV
Viewer. It works in all other Virtualbox VMs with e.g. Ubuntu 20.04,
Ubuntu 16.04 or Windows 10 Pro. The problem is related to the buffering
(stats for nerds). It build up the buffer and when the buffer reaches
its value, it plays the content of the buffer in a few milli seconds.
Afterwards it starts again with the same process.

I have reinstalled firefox, but the problems remains (apt --reinstall
install firefox)

The problem is independent on the selection of the hw acceleration in
the firefox preferences.

Obrigado

[Bug 1898563] Re: Xorg freeze

2020-10-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1897988] Re: GitKraken Flatpak doesn't display Icon in task switcher

2020-10-05 Thread Sai Vinoba
Tested on Groovy. I can confirm reported issue albeit not for _all_
flatpaks.

I tested GitKraken, FreeTube, Warpinator and Agenda flatpaks. Of them,
FreeTube showed icon properly both in task switcher and window list
(bottom bar) but other three did _not_.

Observed same issue on LinuxMint MATE as well. Haven't confirmed on
other DE than MATE or non-Ubuntu distro.

[Bug 1897750] Re: gcin and hime fail to build with gcc-10

2020-10-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
The Debian gcin maintainer chose to also update to a newer version, but
it seems to be a pure bug fix release. Should be fine to sync; no FFe
needed. Upstream changelog below according to Google Translate:

2.9.0

-bug fix: If the editing area of the gtab input method displays the
setting "application editing area", the window position for selecting
the word is wrong.

-bug fix: Under Xu's keyboard, the "A" of "flattering" cannot be entered

-gtab input method can pre-select blank words, like New York

-gcc 10 compatible

2.8.9:

-Fixed the problem of using gtk3, the default is changed to gtk3

-Fixed the problem that 41 keys can be phonetic without tone.

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

2020-10-05 Thread Tim Wetzel
Sorry to say that I tried to install from images from both May and June
of this year, obviously 20.04. Both failed with the same crash. And,
like you, I need nvidia and other specific drivers.

Even if you can get past the crash, other changes that have been made since
mid-September are wreaking havoc also:
-there are problems with the new compression algorithm for initramfs
-there are issues with startup hanging with a spinning Ubuntu logo, forcing
hard power down
-there are issues with startup going into suspend as soon as the login password
is entered

I too hope that this gets solved soon.

2020-10-05 Thread Seamus Ryan
I *may* be jumping the gun here, but having just installed
5.4.0-1019-raspi this morning, things appear to be good!

Did an upgrade ~ 30 minutes ago (usually i find the issue is triggered
after around 10 minutes or so).

Will update if/when it crashes.

[Bug 1879980] Re: Fail to boot with LUKS on top of RAID1 if the array is broken/degraded

2020-10-05 Thread Alex Murray
I can't see any potential security impact from this - yes it will now do
another round of asking for passwords but 9 tries doesn't really help
(from an attacker point-of-view) any more than 6 tries assuming this is
a long passphrase - so consider this an ACK from the security team.

[Bug 1884850] Re: Xorg server uses unacceptably large amounts of memory (and keep growing) when LibreOffice is running

2020-10-05 Thread Wirawan Purwanto
Here is a fuller analysis (see next attachment, Xfce-
session-20200922-analysis.html). I started LibreOffice on 9/22 nearly
exclusively on a new Xfce session. (Except for the MATE terminal app,
again). I edited a few documents, as indicated in the analysis. Every
time without exception, the X pixmap memory usage grew. My previous
attachment (graph) showed that the X memory usage eventually exploded
after an extended period of time the LO Writer app was open--nearly a
month. This time, I did not do that. But I managed to show in the graph
that almost every document edit leads to a significant increase in the X
pixmap memory usage (5 MB, 10 MB, and even 20 MB just looking at the
graph). The problem is, once the LibreOffice is closed, the X pixmap
memory usage won't shrink anymore. I do have the xrestop snapshots of
the LibreOffice usage but haven't had chance to process the data to
graph it. Ask me if that is desired. But I will send the script that
polls the memory usage as a second attachment in case that is useful for
others to monitor the memory growth.

Re: [Bug 1898404] Re: The keyboard overlay slides up the screen even though touch screen is not in use

2020-10-05 Thread Skip Tavakkolian
Hello,

I upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04.1 (offered by software update) before I received
your reply. I can't reproduce the problem.

Using release 20.04.1, I enabled the "screen keyboard" from "Universal
Access" menu and can see the keyboard pop up behavior, as expected. I can
also disable it, and it stops popping up. Previously, even though disabled,
everytime text input was expected (e.g. clicking in a text box in the
browser, or selecting the Terminal to type something, etc.) the screen
keyboard would slide up from the bottom of the screen.

Thanks,
-Skip

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

2020-10-05 Thread Winston Fan
Hit the same issue on 6th Oct 2020.

I downloaded the latest ISO from Ubuntu official website and created my
bootable USB to install the latest 20.04 version.

The crash happened towards the end of installation, 80% in progress.

My PC specs:
AMD Ryzen X3700
NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti, Gigabyte
Kingston A2000 1TG M.2 NVME SSD
RAM 64GB

The File system I chose during partitioning is:
Btrfs
Mount Point: /

Hopefully this issue will be solved soon.

For now, what should I do?
reinstall the Ubuntu 20.04?

[Bug 1832182] Re: systemd unable to detect running apache if invoked via "apache2ctl graceful"

2020-10-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

- When starting or restarting Apache via the /usr/sbin/apache2ctl script,
- systemd becomes unaware of the state of Apache, causing "systemctl
- status apache2.service" to report "Active: inactive (dead)". Below I
- describe the issue and a fix; attached is the output of the diff command
- after I fixed it on my own 18.04 LTS system.
+ [Impact]

- [Impact]
- Description of issue and impact:
+ Unattended upgrade will attempt to gracefully reload the Apache2 httpd
+ service, but it reloads apache directly, not via systemd, so systemctl
+ will mis-report the true status. This can cause unexpected and
+ unnecessary server outages when e.g. upgrading from one LTS to another.

- Despite this issue, Apache itself generally runs fine, so this is not an
- absolutely critical issue, however as both "systemctl status
- apache2.service" and "service apache2 status" become unable to detect
- its running state, and as some people may be scripting Apache service
- checks using those commands, they may experience server outages when
- they migrate from 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS or 18.04 LTS, so this could
- potentially have serious consequences. I suspect this caused or at least
- contributed to at least one outage of a web server I am responsible for,
- as the web file backup script was unable to restart the apache process
- after stopping it.
-
- This issue affects Ubuntu 16.04 LTS when using "apache2ctl start" or
- "apache2ctl graceful", and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS just when using "apache2ctl
- graceful".

  [Test Case]

  root@server:/usr/local/sbin# apache2ctl stop
  root@server:/usr/local/sbin# apache2ctl graceful
httpd not running, trying to start
  root@server:/usr/local/sbin# systemctl status apache2.service

[Bug 1898631] Re: Installer does not update "system not connected to the internet" message dynamically

2020-10-05 Thread Erich Eickmeyer
Wrong package. (ubuntustudio-installer is for installing packages on an
already-installed system)

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1898631

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntustudio-installer (Ubuntu) => calamares
(Ubuntu)

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a
PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that
PPA contains package version numbers greater than the release to which
you are upgrading. You can revert the PPA by installing the ppa-purge
package from the official Ubuntu archive and then running 'sudo ppa-
purge ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa'. After that you can try upgrading again and
if it still fails open a new bug report. Thanks and good luck!
