[Bug 1892826] Re: autopkgtest breaks in groovy at 6.6.0-1ubuntu1 for smoke-lxc

2020-10-07 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Update now that we have glibc 2.32

libguestfs as rebuilt correctly
root@g:~# eu-readelf -a /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libguestfs.so.0 | grep
xdr_uint64 | grep GLOBAL
  102: 0 FUNCGLOBAL DEFAULTUNDEF
xdr_uint64_t@TIRPC_0.3.0 (12)

libvirt not yet, I'll need to upload a revert of the change that was needed
prior to glibc 2.32
root@g:~# eu-readelf -a /usr/lib/libvirt/libvirt_lxc | grep xdr_uint64 | grep
GLOBAL
  104: 0 FUNCGLOBAL DEFAULTUNDEF
xdr_uint64_t@GLIBC_2.2.5 (4)

Because 2.32 doesn't provide that anymore

** Changed in: libguestfs (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1893711] Re: [hns3-0901]add hns3_gro_complete for HW GRO process

2020-10-07 Thread Ike Panhc
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ kernel oops on hns3 driver when GRO is enabled.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Cherry-pick patches from upstream
+ d474d88f8826 net: hns3: add hns3_gro_complete for HW GRO process
+ a4d2cdcbb878 net: hns3: minor refactor for hns3_rx_checksum
+
+ [Test]
+ No known way to reproduce it in our lab. Regression test only.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Patchset only affects hns3 driver. Minimal risk for other drivers and
platform.
+ Stress test on hns3 driver looks good and we also have positive
+ feedback from different lab.
+ Patches also in Ubuntu kernel since Eoan and no regression observed.
+
+
  [Bug Description]
When a GRO packet is received by driver, the cwr field in the
struct tcphdr needs to be checked to decide whether to set the
  SKB_GSO_TCP_ECN for skb_shinfo(skb)->gso_type.

  [Steps to Reproduce]
  1.load PF driver
2.turn off GRO of stack, turn on HW GRO

[Bug 1892040] Re: US keyboard layout even if a non english language is selected in ubiquity-dm

2020-10-07 Thread Alex
Due to the bug #1871268 had to use a daily installer (downloaded yesterday, so
might be the previous version already (07.10.2020). Choosing russian language
during installation (btw suggested by default after choosing russian language
at the beginning of the installation) didn't make the "en>" icon to appear at
the top panel of Gnome and, obviously, didn't allow me to type in russian
letters in the check box. Though it did work just fine with the usual installer
from Ubuntu's main webpage, but, again, I used the daily installer to avoid a
crash during installation.
After the installation was complete, I had both layouts added, working fine,
just as I selected during the installation process. So, I had the ability to
change the name (not the "username") of the user, since, initially, I wanted to
type it in in russian letters, but couldn't do it during the installation
process since any other keyboard layouts (I've clicked through a couple) didn't
work.

[Bug 1898849] Re: Ubuntu Mate freezes when I run Facebook on Firefox

2020-10-07 Thread Norm Stone
Ubuntu MATE 20.04.1 LTS

Samsung.
Intel core i7- 3630QM @ 2.40 GHz.
4GB RAM

The freeze problem now occurs with any more than 1 hours uptime.

I am running the OS from a USB stick.

I am very pleased with the OS (compared to windows) but I am reluctant
to load it onto the HD in case the problem persists.

The same happens with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

I am beginning to think it is my laptop. Perhaps I shgould wipe the HD
and start again,

Thanks heaps for you attention

I can confirm that in 20.10 removing "quiet splash" allows it to boot,

This bug also affects me with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.10 beta. The
kernel is 5.8.0-20-generic. If I hit esc when it is stuck on booting, I
can see it is waiting. The boot message is too cryptic for me, but
maybe someone else has an idea. I'm using a Lenovo too (Yoga 260).
Here is a photo of the boot messages.

[Bug 1897910] Re: Update the 450 and 450-server NVIDIA drivers

2020-10-07 Thread Francis Ginther
I've tested the 450-server drivers for both Focal and Bionic using the
5.4.0-49-generic kernel for focal and the 4.15.0-119-generic and
5.4.0-49-generic for bionic. In all cases, the DKMS modules were used
for testing.

The test consists of running a subset of the CUDA 11.0 samples on both a
Tesla M60 and a Tesla T4. All tests passed.

This covers verification testing of the 450-server drivers for both
bionic and focal.

[Bug 1891157] Re: [MIR] ipp-usb

2020-10-07 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed ipp-usb 0.9.13-1ubuntu1 as checked into groovy. This shouldn't be
considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability.

ipp-usb is an http proxy to provide ipp printing support to USB devices.

- CVE History:
No CVEs in our database, very new
- Build-Depends: debhelper-compat (= 13),
   libusb-1.0-0-dev,
   libavahi-common-dev,
   libavahi-client-dev,
   pkg-config,
   dh-golang,
   golang-go (>= 2:1.14~2) | golang-any,
   golang-github-openprinting-goipp-dev,

- pre/post inst/rm scripts?
  automatically added by debhelper
- init scripts?
  none
- systemd units?
Simple one-shot, starts after avahi and cups, runs ipp-usb with no
  configurable parameters
- dbus services?
  none
- setuid binaries?
  none
- binaries in PATH?
  /sbin/ipp-usb
- sudo fragments?
  none
- polkit files?
  none
- udev rules?
matches usb devices, chowns to root:lp, 664 -- is this too wide?
- unit tests / autopkgtests?
A handful of simple tests, no adversarial tests; the tests are for
papersize size comparisons and parsing the configuration file.
- cron jobs?
  none
- Build logs:
  clean

- Processes spawned?
  none
- Memory management?
  None
- File IO?
Only a handful of files are used with predictable paths
- Logging?
logging rarely checked error conditions, probably fine
- Environment variable usage?
  none
- Use of privileged functions?
  No obvious uses
- Use of cryptography / random number sources etc?
  none
- Use of temp files?
  none
- Use of networking?
networking primarily used go's http library; probably okay
- Use of WebKit?
  none
- Use of PolicyKit?
  none

- Any significant Coverity results?
  No, only two results:
  - resp is used before a nil check; it'll probably just crash if it hits
this
  - sha1 used for uuid generation, probably this is a standard of some
sort; it's not critical

The ipp-usb binary is missing PIE, apparently Go PIE is too buggy to use
by default. Hopefully someday we'll be able to turn this on for all golang
packages in one go.

gosec identified a lot of cases of ignoring error returns. Some, like
errors in logging, are probably not a big deal, but others I did wonder
how the program is supposed to make progress if there's an ignored
earlier. This worries me. I hope the application would just crash though.

Extensive use of atomic operations worries me that locking should have
been used instead. I didn't understand the reason for these to be atomic
while reading the code, and it's entirely possibly that they're needlessly
atomic. If there's a reason why they are atomic, then probably more effort
needs to be put into making this thread-safe.

The code is otherwise straightforward.

Security team ACK for promoting ipp-usb to main.

Thanks

[Bug 1883886] Re: Print dialogue's height in Libreoffice Writer is too high to see and click buttons.

2020-10-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Dave, it appears the fix for this bug is in LibreOffice 7 (Ubuntu
20.10). You are using Ubuntu 20.04 which has LibreOffice 6.4 and
probably doesn't have the fix for this bug.

That's why this is marked as fixed, but also most Ubuntu users including
yourself won't yet have the fix. It's still appropriate to keep using
this bug to discuss the problem and to request a fix for Ubuntu 20.04
which I will do now...

[Bug 1897694] Re: alsa/hda: mic doesn't work on a HP AIO machine

2020-10-07 Thread Hui Wang
Changed the description and verification done on the machine.

** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose.
+ This fix is only for oem-5.6 kernel, other kernels will merge this
+ patch with stable update. Our oem project needs this patch to be merged
+ ASAP, and I am going to have a 8 days public holiday, so sent this SRU.
+
+ [Impact]
+ We had a HP AIO machine, after plugging the headset and trying
+ to record sound from Mic, but can't record any sound.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Set the auto detect mode for Mic, this patch is going to be merged
+ by upstream, now backport it to oem-5.6 kernel.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Boot the system, plug a headset and check the gnome-control-center,
+ the Mic is active in the UI, and record the sound, it could record
+ the sound.
+
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ This patch could introduce audio jack detection problem on this HP
+ machine, but the possibility is very low, since we have tested it
+ on 3 SKUs of this machine, all worked well. And this patch only affects
+ this HP machine since it specifies the subsystem id of this machine.

[Bug 1898959] [NEW] xubuntu groovy daily - UBI-PARTMAN CRASHED

2020-10-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu daily QA-test install on
hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)

-- notes from iso.qa.ubuntu.com report

It picked location as ADELAIDE (not melbourne, my primary pc says
Prahran VIC AU), so I hit BACK to return prior page then CONTINUE again
but this time

"UBI-PARTMAN CRASHED

ubi-partman failed with exit code 10. Further informaton may be found in
/var/log/syslog. Do you want to try running this setup again before
continuing? If you do not, your installation may fail entirely or maybe
broken."

Hitting TRY-AGAIN just repeated message, after 6+ tries I hit continue.

It returned to selecting ADELAIDE (where it was before I hit BACK). I
changed to melbourne (again) & continued

installation proceeded, now ...

[Bug 1898949] Re: ThinkBook 14-IIL can't wake from sleep by opening lid

2020-10-07 Thread Alex Hung
The ACPI's lid device "LID0" is not listed in /proc/acpi/wakeup, and it
can be the result of missing "_PRW" object in ACPI BIOS. It has only
_HID, _LID and _DSW objects such as below (extracted from acpidump.txt).

   Device (LID0)
   {
   Name (_HID, EisaId ("PNP0C0D")
   Method (_LID, 0, NotSerialized)
   {
  // skipped
   }

   Method (_DSW, 3, NotSerialized)
   {
  // skipped
   }
   }

According to ACPI spec, _PRW is required for wake such as below

7.3.13 _PRW (Power Resources for Wake)
This object evaluates to a list of power resources upon which this device
depends for wake. It also contains additional information needed for wake,
including wake events and sleep or soft-off state information. _PRW is only
required for devices that have the ability to wake the system from a system
sleeping state.

Huh... That first message, I'm not sure I've seen before.

This might be a dup of https://bugs.launchpad.net/duplicity/+bug/1828869

You could test that by installing the snap version of duplicity and
uninstalling the distro version:

snap install duplicity --classic

[Bug 1898943] Re: dock and top bar blinking at fullscreen

2020-10-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1898943/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1858453] Re: earlyoom reports wrong killed process name

2020-10-07 Thread Tim Doyle
To clarify, I have not confirmed the exact claim here - that "earlyoom
reports _wrong_ killed process name" (my emphasis) - so maybe I should
not have said it affects me.

But, I have confirmed that earlyoom is killing a process and either not
reporting it, or reporting it incorrectly, as this bug describes.

I should do more research.. but wanted to raise awareness of the issue
in the mean time.

[Bug 1886148] Re: failure to boot groovy daily

2020-10-07 Thread Steve Langasek
I've built http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/daily-live/20201007.1/ now
which drops the -partition_offset 16 option to xorriso, which more
closely approximates the layout we had in 20.04 (at the expense of
partition table correctness). Please check whether this image now boots
on the Lenovo V series, and if so, please also check that it works on
other systems (in BIOS and EFI modes).
