[Bug 1898152] Re: upgrade fails to calculate if gnuradio-dev is installed

2020-10-08 Thread Neil Leslie
Thanks for the suggestion. I did a complete removal of gnuradio-dev
using synaptic package manager, and then tried doing an upgrade.
Unfortunately I got the same result.

I then did a complete removal of gnuradio, and all installed libgnuradio
packages (they were 3.7.11-10, if that is any use). I then tried a tried
doing an upgrade. Unfortunately I got the same result.

I then did sudo apt-get autoremove from the command line. The following
packages were removed:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libcodec2-0.7 libcomedi0 liblog4cpp5v5 libqt5designer5 libqt5help5
libqwt-qt5-6 librtlsdr0 libuhd003.010.003 libvolk1-bin libvolk1-dev libvolk1.3
  python-backports.functools-lru-cache python-certifi python-cheetah
python-cycler python-dateutil python-decorator python-gobject python-matplotlib
python-networkx
  python-olefile python-opengl python-pil python-pyparsing python-pyqt5
python-requests python-scipy python-sip python-subprocess32 python-tz
python-urllib3
  python-yaml python-zmq rtl-sdr uhd-host

I then tried a tried doing an upgrade. Unfortunately I got the same
result.

So, it looks like gnuradio-dev is not the only culprit. Any further
suggestions welcome!

I also verified that without further changes it is held in main, currently
detected and listed as component mismatch:

Source only movements to main (desktop-packages):

Therefore setting Fix Committed and once an AA moved it that will be

[Bug 1898786] Re: Issue with bcache bch_mca_scan causing huge IO wait

2020-10-08 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Benjamin,

I think Dan is onto something.

The following commit was merged in upstream 5.5-rc1, but was backported
to 4.15.0-87-generic through upstream stable:

commit 9fcc34b1a6dd4b8e5337e2b6ef45e428897eca6b
Author: Coly Li
Date:   Wed Nov 13 16:03:24 2019 +0800
Subject: bcache: at least try to shrink 1 node in bch_mca_scan()
Link:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/9fcc34b1a6dd4b8e5337e2b6ef45e428897eca6b

It mentions in the description that:

> If sc->nr_to_scan is smaller than c->btree_pages, after the above
> calculation, variable 'nr' will be 0 and nothing will be shrunk. It is
> frequeently observed that only 1 or 2 is set to sc->nr_to_scan and make

Spending a lot of idle time in bch_mca_scan() waiting on locks seems to
be a key symptom from the logs you have gathered.

I went and had a look through the commit history, and I think these
three patches might solve the problem:

commit 125d98edd11464c8e0ec9eaaba7d682d0f832686

Subject: bcache: reap c->btree_cache_freeable from the tail in bch_mca_scan()

commit e3de04469a49ee09c89e80bf821508df458ccee6
Author: Coly Li
Date:   Fri Jan 24 01:01:42 2020 +0800
Subject: bcache: reap from tail of c->btree_cache in bch_mca_scan()
Link: Link:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/e3de04469a49ee09c89e80bf821508df458ccee6

The first commit is a dependency of the other two. The first commit
removes a "recently accessed" marker, used to indicate if a particular
cache has been used recently, and if it has been, not consider it for
cache eviction. The commit mentions that under heavy IO, all caches will
end up being recently accessed, and nothing will ever be shrunk.

The second commit changes a previous design decision of skipping the
first 3 caches to shrink, since it is a common case to call
bch_mca_scan() with nr being 1, or 2, just like 0 was common in the very
first commit I mentioned. This time, if we land on 1 or 2, the loop
exits and nothing happens, and we waste time waiting on locks, just like
the very first commit I mentioned. The fix is to try shrink caches from
the tail of the list, and not the beginning.

The third commit fixes a minor issue where we don't want to re-arrange
the linked list, which is what the second commit ended up doing, and
instead, just shrink the cache at the end of the linked list, and not
change the order.

All three commits are clean cherry picks to 4.15.0-118-generic, and I
have got a test kernel building for you in:

https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf294907-test

It should be ready in a few hours time. Make sure the build has finished
before trying to install.

Please note this package is NOT SUPPORTED by Canonical, and is for
TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. ONLY Install in a dedicated test environment.

Instructions to install (on a Bionic system):
1) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mruffell/sf294907-test
2) sudo apt update
3) sudo apt install linux-image-unsigned-4.15.0-118-generic
linux-modules-4.15.0-118-generic \
linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-118-generic linux-headers-4.15.0-118
linux-headers-4.15.0-118-generic
4) sudo reboot
5) uname -rv

The uname string should be along the lines of
4.15.0-118.119+TEST294907v20201009b1. You may need to change your grub
settings if you don't boot into the correct kernel.

If you can, schedule some downtime and install the test kernel. Enable
bcache shrinking and try reproduce the problem. Hopefully the test
kernel is an improvement and fixes your issues.

Let me know how the test kernel goes.

Thanks,
Matthew

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ There is no ucm for ASUS C300 in the 20.04 and 20.10, as a result,
+ the audio doesn't work on this machine after installing the 20.04 or
+ 20.10.
+
+ [Fix]
+ The ucm files for this machine are in the alsa-ucm-conf 1.2.3,
+ cherry-pick them to ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10
+
+ [Test Case]
+ After booting up, use speaker to play some sound, it works well,
+ plug a headset, play sound to headphone, it basically works but has
+ some crankling noise, it is a kernel issue for this noise.
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ This SRU adds new ucm files, If the machine uses the audio driver
+ of chtmax98090, it will apply this new added ucm files, there will
+ be speaker/headphone in the UI. So the possible regression is with
+ this SRU, users could see the audio devices in the UI but the audio
+ doesn't work (without this SRU, users couldn't see the audio devices
+ in the UI at all and the audio doesn't work). This possibility is
+ low since we tested it on the ASUS C300.
+
+
  Asus C300 (repurposed chromembook - bios flashed by Mr.Chromebox script) -
Kubuntu Focal minimal fresh installation.
  The sound card is detected: I see it in the Plasma Widget, in pavucontrol, in
alsamixer and it's not muted.
  I tried and add in /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtmax98090/ the old style use case
config files: no success.
  I tried and unmute speakers left and right in alsamixer: no success.

  I rapidly tested Ubuntu Mate Focal fresh install: I had exactly the same
  issue.

  I'm running on the same rig Debian Bullseye, kernel 5.4: sound card
  output and input are both working perfectly - I noticed that in Kubuntu
  alsamixer Kubuntu when I open it I have an entry HDA IntelPCH (the HDMI
  card), while in Debian I find Pulseaudio.
-

  I attach the alsa-info.sh output.

[Bug 1899114] [NEW] internal compiler error: SSA corruption

2020-10-08 Thread Jesse
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version: 20.04.1 LTS
GCC version: gcc-10 (Ubuntu 10.2.0-5ubuntu1~20.04) 10.2.0
Minimal preprocessed source code to reproduce:

```c
a() {
  int b;
  __sigsetjmp();
  for (;;) {
if (b)
  b = c();
d();
  }
}
```

Command to reproduce: `gcc-10 -O3 -c rofl.c` gives the following error:

```
rofl.c:1:1: warning: return type defaults to ‘int’ [-Wimplicit-int]
1 | a() {
  | ^
rofl.c: In function ‘a’:
rofl.c:3:3: warning: implicit declaration of function ‘__sigsetjmp’
7 | d();
during RTL pass: expand
rofl.c:1:1: internal compiler error: SSA corruption
1 | a() {
  | ^
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See  for instructions.
```

I tried reproduce with a recent snapshot. Since gcc-snapshot in focal is
actually older than gcc-10, I tried it under groovy instead. And indeed,
I was able to reproduce in groovy's gcc-snapshot ( 11.0.0 20200917
(experimental) [master revision
c12facd2288:cb0617a790f:9fcedcc39153cb3cfa08ebab20aef6cdfb9ed609]) using
a slightly different repro:

```c
a;
b() {
  int c, d;
  __sigsetjmp();
  for (; a;)
for (; d;) {
  if (c)
c = e();
  f();
}
}
```

This file, when compiled with gcc-snapshot, leads to the following
output:

```
[Bug 1891157] Re: [MIR] ipp-usb
2020-10-08 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed golang-github-openprinting-goipp 1.0.0-1 as checked into
groovy.  This shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick
gauge of maintainability.
golang-github-openprinting-goipp is a low-level serializer/deserializer
for IPP protocol messages.
- CVE History:
  - No CVEs in our database
- Build-Depends:
  debhelper-compat (= 13),
  dh-golang,
  golang-any
  not directly, but will process data from a network. Looked clean.
- Use of WebKit?
  none
- Use of PolicyKit?
  none
- Any significant Coverity results?
  none (no build, no coverity)
decodeString() and decodeBytes() look like they could be made to hang
forever if the remote peer sends along a length of N but then doesn't send
along N actual bytes of data in the stream afterwards.
decodeString() does no well-formedness checks on inputs: no utf8
enforcement, no newlines / whitespace etc. This appears to be used with
Name inputs. Much of the code appears able to handle arbitrary bytes well
enough, but the String() method for Collection doesn't do anything to
ensure that an output Name doesn't have { or }, [ or ], or a comma, etc.
Injecting newlines and new headers is a quite popular exploit technique;
are these routines susceptible to similar problems?
There's a pretty decent array non-adversarial test cases.
 W: golang-github-openprinting-goipp source: debhelper-compat-file-is-missing
 W: golang-github-openprinting-goipp source: newer-standards-version 4.5.0
Security team ACK for promoting golang-github-openprinting-goipp to
main.
well as AppArmor profiles. Please consider what steps could be taken to
reduce the privileges of these services.
Thanks
Did some more testing on the Lenovo V14 IIL box and thought it might prove
interesting to try other
[Bug 1899111] [NEW] kdeconnect sms hangs
2020-10-08 Thread Gordon Lack
Public bug reported:
If I try the SMS Message option in KDE Connect the "KDE Connect SMS" window
opens up, but it just contains a spinning "busy" cursor, and stays this way
forever (or at least for as long as I leave it...).
I'd expect to be able to send an SMS message and/or view current ones.
Running in a terminal window shows:
[parent]: kdeconnect-sms
qrc:/qml/main.qml:36: ReferenceError: _initialMessage is not defined
kdeconnect.sms.conversations_list: setDeviceId "51dbcd6d1fc8d266" of
This is on Kubuntu 20.04.  (Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS)
[Bug 1897433] Re: gfortran coarray library not compiling with Ubuntu 20.04
2020-10-08 Thread Adrian Barbuio
Thank you @Brian for responding to this bug and, in essence, my email.
It seems there is no way to install open-coarrays on Ubuntu 20.04 that
is entirely functional. If this is not a gcc-defaults bug, then how
should i proceed in terms of addressing the issue and trying to install
this package.
Regards, Adrian
[Bug 1895874] Re: Can't access phone filesystem with KDE Connect
2020-10-08 Thread Gordon Lack
I see the same.
It can access the internal storage OK, but not the SD card.
That may well be because KDE Connect hasn't asked (and obtained) access
to it, either directly (if possible) or using the Storage Access
Framework.
For me, the phone is on Android 10.
2020-10-08 Thread Azis naufal
If I put the method like this one.
*see attachment
there is LID0 like this:
$ cat /proc/acpi/wakeup | grep LID
LID0  S3*enabled   platform:PNP0C0D:00
But it makes sleep just hang. no deep sleep.
Thanks in advance. I need to wait to lenovo new bios.
the s2idle is not working for me.
[Bug 1898949] Re: ThinkBook 14-IIL can't wake from sleep by opening lid
2020-10-08 Thread Azis naufal
Hi Alex!
Your dsdt patch is not working.
Actually i don't really know how to apply that patch. So i just put it to the
dsdt.dsl at line 19880 (like the patch said). If I use this command:
$ patch -u dsdt.dsl -i lid_prw.patch
patch:  Only garbage was found in the patch input.
If I put the _PRW method like this, the output of /proc/acpi/wakeup
doesn't contain any LID0 device.
[Bug 1898829] Re: CMOS-battery status missing in "inxi -B"
2020-10-08 Thread Harald Hope
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/rtc.txt
just a bit of info on rtc drivers. While rtc is something, it's not
necessarily the cmos battery, it's just a chip that the system can use
to determine time. So it would not be a cmos battery it would be an RTC
battery, since there would be no way for inxi to know what it was, there
can be more than one for example.
This bit of data is unlikely to make it into inxi I have to admit since
I would need to see much more information about variation and > 1 rtc
systems and systems where the battery was dead or whatever else can
happen, but in no case would it be a cmos battery state, it would be an
rtc chip state, but, again, since I have no real data on this, no
examples of complex systems, etc, it's unlikely this will be added.
Re: [Bug 1897198] Re: Ubuntu Cinnamon 20.10 Linux headers not installed nor updated
2020-10-08 Thread BertN45
I've done the upgrade to Linux 5.8.0-21 and had all the old buggy
sympthoms. That all had been caused by the failing of the Virtualbox
Guest Additions installation for Linux 5.8.0-21 during the Linux
upgrade from 20 to 21.
Everything was OK after:
- I installed "linux-headers-5.9.0-21-generic" using Synaptic and
- reinstalled the Virtualbox Guest Additions.
Confirmed.  Upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04.1.  Walked away from my
Thank you for sharing this info! I think we've found the root cause and
the fix is to disable glitch filter. What needs to be done is to find a
way to do it without affecting existing touchpads. For the details, you
I'm surprised to know that with pin's direction set to "out", no new "no
Can you share the interrupt counter for me when you don't use the
rapidly after setting the pin's direction to "out". Can you confirm it
for your laptop?
[Bug 1879980] Re: Fail to boot with LUKS on top of RAID1 if the array is broken/degraded
2020-10-08 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Guilherme, or anyone else affected,
Accepted cryptsetup into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/2:2.0.2-1ubuntu1.2 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.
Please help us by testing this new package.  See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.  Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.
If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.
Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!
N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.
[Bug 1898786] Re: Issue with bcache bch_mca_scan causing huge IO wait
2020-10-08 Thread Benjamin Allot
Hi Mauricio,
The tests in [5][6] and [7] have been done with a 44GB memory VM.
This VM usually has 64GB of allocated memory.
The goal was to verify that the load of the whole btree in RAM was not
prevented (like in mca-reap -> down_write_trylock).
All this kernel stuff is rather new to me, so I may be following a wrong
lead.
** Description changed:
  Hello,
  In short, we faced an issue with a huge IO wait on a bionic Ubuntu
4.15.0-118.119-generic kernel.
  This is the full list of process and the kernel function they were stuck in
[0].
  The main issue can probably be summarized by this perf reports
  * first identify that the cpu are stuck in idle because of something[1]
  * second, see what kernel function seems to stuck the process kswapd0 and
kswapd1 [2].
  We could see that this seems to be the mutex_lock in the bch_mca_scan
  function [3].
  After running the command:
   | sudo bash -c "echo 1 > /sys/fs/bcache/f1a1e8cb-3e6b-40ea-852e-
  583c48d0c2b8/internal/btree_shrinker_disabled"
  The server started to respond normally and the IO wait dropped
  significantly
  Here is a trace of the bcache event related lock in the kernel obtained
  with some bpfcc-tools [4].
  klockstat-bpfcc -c bch_ -i 5 -s 3
  The trace has been run in parallel with the following command line
  echo "Shrinker disabled: $(date)"; sleep 60; echo "Enabling shrinker:
  $(date)"; echo 0 | sudo tee
  /sys/block/bcache0/bcache/cache/internal/btree_shrinker_disabled ; sleep
  60; echo "Disabling shrinker: $(date)"; echo 1 | sudo tee
  /sys/block/bcache0/bcache/cache/internal/btree_shrinker_disabled; sleep
  60; echo "End of test: $(date)"
  Trying to dig more, we reduced by 20 GB the memory allocated to a VM on the
server.
  * The bcache btree size fluctuation seems "normal" [5]
- * I noticed that, when the shrinker was enabled,a lot of time was spent in
the locks during "bch_btree_insert_node".
+ * I noticed that, when the shrinker was enabled,a lot of time was spent in
the locks during "bch_btree_insert_node". [6]
  I decided to check if one of the function called during
  bch_btree_insert_node was taking longer than usual when the shrinker was
  enabled.
  I finally found the "funclatency" tool and tried do have the same approach I
had with the klockstat [7]. However, that was inconclusive. I could see there
that the bch_btree_insert_node was barely called during the whole duration of
the test.
  Which made me think it's amount of time spent in lock is more due to another
process acquiring the lock.
  I'm going to try to have another go with some perf/klockstat/funclatency
  focused on bch_mca_scan and the function called there.
  Also, here are some memory related metrics [8].
-
  Now another perf stacktrace with the command used [9].
  Strangely this one doesn't show any bch_mca_scan at all.
  I enabled the shrinker again, hoping to get more traces, but apparently the
timeframe was not right. Not enough load to trigger the cliff resulting in a
1sec IOwait plateau.
  Which is interesting because that means that without the maximal workload,
the kernel can cope with the shrinker.
[Bug 1847247]
2020-10-08 Thread Crxssi
I am running vanilla Firefox 78.3.0 ESR under Linux and neither $DICPATH
nor the spellchecker.dictionary_path preference is working (also not
working in Firefox 68ESR).  I have a customized medical dictionary that
I have used for many years under older versions of Firefox that I now
cannot use.   I assume it is supposed to be as simple as:
$ ls /opt/dictionary
$ file *
en-US.aff:  ASCII text
en-US.dic:  UTF-8 Unicode text
$ export DICPATH="/opt/dictionary"
$ firefox
Yet it is not using the external dictionary I defined (showing words in
that external dictionary as misspelled, still).  I tried also adding
export DICTIONARY="en-US" before launching and that didn't help.  I am
hoping someone might have some idea what is going on.  Is this option
now broken?  And I using it wrong?  I would open a new bug report if I
were confident I am not doing something wrong, myself.  Thanks
[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
2020-10-08 Thread Coiby Xu
@injkgz
And also for those who have difficult building the custom kernel which
is not necessary, you can build a single pinctrl-amd.ko.
1. After you download the attached file which contains fixed pinctrl-
amd.c and other heades for building, run make to build this module,
$ make
make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`
make[1]: Entering directory '~/kernel/linux_touchpad
  CC [M]  ~/kernel/other/standone_pinctrl-amd/pinctrl-amd.o
  AR  ~/kernel/other/standone_pinctrl-amd/built-in.a
  MODPOST ~/kernel/other/standone_pinctrl-amd/Module.symvers
  CC [M]  ~/kernel/other/standone_pinctrl-amd/pinctrl-amd.mod.o
  LD [M]  ~/kernel/other/standone_pinctrl-amd/pinctrl-amd.ko
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/coiby/Desktop/kernel/linux_touchpad'
2 Copy pinctrl-amd.ko to override the current one whose path can be found by
modinfo
$ modinfo pinctrl-amd
filename:
/lib/modules/5.9.0-rc7-MANJARO+/kernel/drivers/pinctrl-amd/pinctrl-amd.ko.xz
$ cp pinctrl-amd.ko
/lib/modules/5.9.0-rc7-MANJARO+/kernel/drivers/pinctrl-amd/pinctrl-amd.ko.xz
3. reboot the system and now you are expected to see a working touchpad
[Bug 1899103] [NEW] libpam-cap causes PAM applications to crash
2020-10-08 Thread Alan Jowett
Public bug reported:
Install ocserv and setup for PAM authentication. On second connection,
ocserv crashes due to a double free in PAM.
Repro steps:
1. Create Dockerfile that installs ocserv + libpam-cap
```
FROM ubuntu:20.04

RUN apt update && apt install -y ocserv libpam-cap && apt autoremove &&
apt clean

COPY server-cert.pem /etc/ssl/ocserv_test.cert
COPY server-key.pem /etc/ssl/ocserv_test.key
COPY ca-cert.pem /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
COPY ocserv.conf /etc/ocserv/ocserv.conf

RUN useradd test
RUN echo "test\ntest" | passwd test

ENV MALLOC_CHECK_=3
CMD ocserv -f -d 1
```
2. Build container:
```
sudo docker build -t ocserv:20.04 .
```
3. Launch container:
```
docker run -p 443:443/tcp -p 443:443/udp -it --rm --device /dev/net/tun
--cap-add net_admin ocserv:20.04
```
4. From another console, connect / disconnect:
```
while true; do echo test | openconnect https://localhost -u test
--passwd-on-stdin --servercert
pin-sha256:qBLVTyoXiFdn+0pW+eSGqnVCEnMbLigVf5vAl1ZewW4= --background && sleep 2
&& pkill openconnect && sleep 2;done
```
5. ocserv crashes:
free(): invalid pointer
[Bug 1899102] [NEW] Fatal error during install using the option "wipe all data and install Ubuntu" (didn't make manual partitioning)
2020-10-08 Thread Julio Reibel
Public bug reported:
Happened during installation. It's the second time in a row trying to install
on my laptoo with a new SSD.
The first time installed Windows 7 first (using 30-something gb from the 480 of
my new Kingston SSD), then made the manual partitioning, begin to install and
crashed similarly.
Some years before I also tried to install this Ubuntu version and never could
because of similar problems. Ended up with 16.04.
I don't meet the system requirements for the 20.04 so after I finish this
report I'm gone go ahead and install Win7 alongside Ubuntu 16.04 (and maybe
upgrade from there, I don't know yet).
Hope this information is useful. I don't think I'm gonna be checking this
report soon but hopefully I'll remember it in the near future.
