[Bug 1900223] [NEW] snap refresh --list shows an available update but snap refresh doesn't install it
Public bug reported: snap-store tells me there's an update available for snap-store. I tried to tell it to update itself, but it says it can't because the application is currently running. Fair enough, that's not the bug I'm reporting here, just some background information. snap refresh --list shows NameVersion Rev Publisher Notes snap-store 3.36.0-82-g80486d0 481 canonical✓ - so I run `sudo snap refresh` to install the update (after closing snap-store), and it tells me Visi snap paketai yra atnaujinti. [Bug 1900121] Re: firmware upgrades remove the ubuntu boot loader from EFI boot vars
A strange thing happened today: snap-software told me there are important system upgrades available, and one of those was the same firmware upgrade for the x390 (1.67 -> 1.70) that I was sure I'd already installed yesterday. fwupdmgr get-updates and /sys/class/dmi/id/bios_version confirmed that no, my firmware was still at version 1.67, despite me seeing the upgrade process with my own eyes yesterday. So I installed the update again, took a snapshot of efibootmgr -v for my notes, saw that it had all the right entries (BootNext: 0002 aka Linux- Firmware-Updater, BootCurrent: 0001 aka ubuntu), rebooted, saw the firmware upgrade process again (two capsules, nice large translated installing text in the middle of the screen with a |/- spinner above it overlapping the huge LENOVO logo, then a red progress bar, then another reboot, then a black screen with a "self-healing bios backup" and an increasing percentage text, then another reboot. I went into the boot order menu (F12) and saw that ubuntu was still there. I booted and /sys/class/dmi/id/bios_version is showing 1.70 this time. I have no explanation, only theories. Maybe I did something yesterday (boot into the Linux Firmware Upgrade target with no upgrade queued?) that made the laptop think the firmware got corrupted and it restored the older version from a backup? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900121 Title: firmware upgrades remove the ubuntu boot loader from EFI boot vars To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fwupd/+bug/1900121/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1899993] Re: EFI: Fails when BootCurrent entry does not exist
@dann @ryan RE: I'm also assuming a firmware bug here, but I need to consult the specification. If it is a clear firmware bug then I think plan A should certainly be to pressure the vendor to release a fix. Is there a way we can verify that the firmware is the true issue? [Bug 1900211] [NEW] venv creation fails: ensurepip error
Public bug reported: Tested on focal with both the focal-proposed 3.9.0-1~20.04 amd64 and focal-updates 3.9.0~rc1-1~20.04 amd64 packages. Installed python3.9 (+deps) and python3.9-venv $ python3.9 -m venv venv The virtual environment was not created successfully because ensurepip is not available. On Debian/Ubuntu systems, you need to install the python3-venv package using the following command. apt-get install python3-venv You may need to use sudo with that command. After installing the python3-venv package, recreate your virtual environment. Failing command: ['/home/ziddey/test/venv/bin/python3.9', '-Im', 'ensurepip', '--upgrade', '--default-pip'] $ python3.9 -m ensurepip --version /usr/bin/python3.9: Error while finding module specification for 'ensurepip.__main__' (ImportError: cannot import name '_bundled' from partially initialized module 'ensurepip' (most likely due to a circular import) (/usr/lib/python3.9/ensurepip/__init__.py)) vs: $ python3.8 -m ensurepip --version pip 20.0.2 Adding --without-pip works to create the venv, but obviously without pip. Comparing /usr/lib/python3.9/ensurepip/__init__.py with the official cpython, it looks like we don't bundle. Instead, we use common python wheels in /usr/share/python-wheels/. This means that python3.9 would end up sharing the same wheels as python3.8. By commenting out: from . import _bundled everything seems to work fine. venv creates/activates, pip seemingly works as expected, despite being an older version. Or at least, it works well enough to create the venv with --upgrade-deps so that the venv will then take on current versions instead. Of course, this relies on having the wheels available via python3.8 and having them be compatible, but it's a temporary fix. $ python3.9 -m venv --upgrade-deps venv Collecting pip Downloading pip-20.2.3-py2.py3-none-any.whl (1.5 MB) || 1.5 MB 2.8 MB/s Collecting setuptools Downloading setuptools-50.3.1-py3-none-any.whl (785 kB) || 785 kB 17.3 MB/s Installing collected packages: pip, setuptools Attempting uninstall: pip Found existing installation: pip 20.0.2 Uninstalling pip-20.0.2: Successfully uninstalled pip-20.0.2 Attempting uninstall: setuptools Found existing installation: setuptools 44.0.0 Uninstalling setuptools-44.0.0: Successfully uninstalled setuptools-44.0.0 Successfully installed pip-20.2.3 setuptools-50.3.1 ziddey@laurie:~/test$ . venv/bin/activate (venv) ziddey@laurie:~/test$ pip list Package Version - --- pip 20.2.3 pkg-resources 0.0.0 setuptools50.3.1 ** Affects: python3.9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900211 Title: venv creation fails: ensurepip error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python3.9/+bug/1900211/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1900063] Re: Sync flatpak 1.8.2-3 (universe) from Debian sid (main)
Oh sorry, I didn't realise that flatpak was being seeded in some flavours :-) The main reason for this sync was to try and fix the issues with 1.8.2-2 which is currently in groovy-proposed, I didn't want this version to accidentally reach a release pocket. As if the user doesn't have the accountsservice installed it will cause flatpak not to work correctly (which might even be the case for some of these seeded flavours). 1.8.2-3 provides fixes for this. If 1.8.2-2 is rejected from proposed, then we might not even need to sync 1.8.2-3 for groovy if the parental controls stuff stays correctly disabled with 1.8.2-1. And if it does cause issues or we want to enable it, then I'm happy to do a SRU after release. The autopkgtests are failing for the package in proposed, so hopefully it will be rejected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900063 Title: Sync flatpak 1.8.2-3 (universe) from Debian sid (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flatpak/+bug/1900063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1900063] Re: Sync flatpak 1.8.2-3 (universe) from Debian sid (main)
Hello. According to the tool to indicate whether a package is seeded or not, Flatpak is currently seeded in Ubuntu Budgie and Xubuntu: $ seeded-in-ubuntu flatpak flatpak (from flatpak) is seeded in: ubuntu-budgie: supported xubuntu: supported gir1.2-flatpak-1.0 (from flatpak) is seeded in: ubuntu-budgie: supported xubuntu: supported libflatpak-dev (from flatpak) is seeded in: ubuntu-budgie: supported xubuntu: supported libflatpak0 (from flatpak) is seeded in: ubuntu-budgie: supported xubuntu: supported Ubuntu is now in Final Freeze - per the Final Freeze announcement [1], packages need to fit one of these two categories: 1) Release critical bugs that affect ISOs, installers, or otherwise can't be fixed easily post-release. 2) Bug fixes that would be suitable for post-release SRUs, which we may choose to accept, reject, or shunt to -updates for 0-day SRUs on a case-by-case basis. This second case should have SRU-style bugs filed with the appropriate template, referenced in changelog. I don't see a justification included on the sync request that would put this request into either of the categories as this does not have any SRU template. The only new changes I can see here are that it has a dependency on DBus, but that you fix an issue with Parental Control checks. That's likely SRUable post-release. However, I don't see justification to sync this at this time given we are in Final Freeze. ** Changed in: flatpak (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900063 Title: Sync flatpak 1.8.2-3 (universe) from Debian sid (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flatpak/+bug/1900063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1867813] Re: [MIR] linux-firmware-raspi2 to restricted
I reviewed linux-firmware-raspi2 version 2-0ubuntu1 as checked into groovy. This is very quick pass over the package. My concerns for this package are nearly identical to my concerns given in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rpi-eeprom/+bug/1895137/comments/11 Thanks Dave for anticipating similar expectations for this package: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware-raspi2/+bug/1867813/comments/13 One concern I have with this package is the get-orig-source target downloads files without strong verification of file contents, it is trusting the github infrastructure and x.509 ecosystem to make sure incorrect files aren't downloaded by accident. This isn't ideal but also isn't restricted to this one package. Security team ACK for promoting linux-firmware-raspi2 to restricted. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133 Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains package version numbers greater than the release to which you are upgrading. [Bug 1798171] Re: System fails to boot with \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found
This bug is now two years old but I stumbled just recently over it. I'd like to add my story about that bug of the missing "mmx64.efi" file. I am running a custom built PC based on an ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1 mainboard. Shortly after the COVID-19 era started (earlier this year), I made a fresh dual boot installation consisting of Windows 10 Pro and Linux Mint 20 (which is based on Ubuntu 20.04). Since then my dual boot system is working just fine with Secure Boot enabled. Anyhow, now and then I like to try new GNU/Linux distros booting from an USB SD Card reader/writer (e.g. different Linux Mint and/or Ubuntu flavors). The writing to the boot device happens with dd and the few mentioned distros did boot live from an USB media about a month ago, indeed. But now for a week or so my system cannot boot these USB live GNU/Linux distros anymore. The error message on the display says: --- ERROR Verification failed: (0x1A) Security Violation Failed to load image: Security Policy Violation Failed to open \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found Failed to load image \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi: Not Found start_image() returned Not Found --- I just don't know what might have happend in the meanwhile. But still my dual boot system is working fine. The workaround about copying or renaming the missing mmx64.efi file on the USB live boot media does not work for me. And the comment #55 prevented me from messing around with efivars as I don't want to break my system as long itself is working fine. It's just the USB live distros that don't boot. The next curious fact is that I own another single boot Laptop (Acer TravelMate B115-M) with Secure Boot enabled and also Linux Mint 20 installed. The installed operating system is working just fine but again no USB live distro is booting. It's the same error (file mmx64.efi not found). My only attempt trying to solve this bug so far is this: The UEFI/BIOS of both my machines offer to restore all Secure Boot related stuff (e.g. like clearing trusted keys and such). After I made this I successfully could boot of an USB live distro *once*. Upon reboot and starting up the installed Linux Mint 20 system I was not able to repeat to boot an USB live distro anymore. However, still my installed Linux Mint 20 system is working fine. So technically, I would have to clear Secure boot settings in the UEFI/BIOS every time I want to boot an USB live distro? But this is not a convenient solution at all. In my observations the only connection between my both computers is the installed Linux Mint 20 operating system. Hope that gives someone a clue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798171 Title: System fails to boot with \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1798171/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
