[Bug 1900334] Re: [snap] Mouse pointer theme and scaling not honoured for cursor themes not included in gtk-common-themes
The Spotify snap has always shown a tiny mouse pointer in HiDPI screens. The issue has been discussed in https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/very-ugly- cursor-for-spotify-and-kde-snaps/17118 but the conclusion was that this should be fixed upstream (here is the upstream report that presumably nobody that matters will ever look at https://community.spotify.com/t5 /Desktop-Linux/Tiny-mouse-pointer-i-HiDPI-screen-only-Snap- package/td-p/4938047). [Bug 1901272] Re: Inconsistent Bluetooth behavior on reboot 20.10 on rpi4
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1901272/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1901274] [NEW] Install of the boot loader failed
Public bug reported: I was running Ubuntu 18.04 which was working fine. I attempted to update to 20.4. The update failed miserably (many panic messages)and the automatic recovery to 18.04 failed also. I then ran Ubuntu 16.04 from disk, which worked, but would not install. I ran "boot-repair" which also failed (exited). I created a new disk image of 18.04 which seemed to install and I am using it to send this message, but grub-installer would not load on any of the Ubuntu partitions on my hardware. I will need to manually install a boot loader and I have no idea how to do that. Please help, else this machine will become a Windows 7 machine and I do not have any use for that OS. [Bug 1872950] Re: Nvidia 340.108 fails to install with kernels 5.5 and 5.6
I just upgraded to Ubuntu 20.10 without realizing this problem with the nvidia-340.108 . The upgrade failed to install this driver with the 5.8 kernel that comes with the upgrade. Fortunately, I still have the 5.4 kernel that is compatible. I have a Dell Inspiron 1400 with legacy GPU GeForce 8400M GS. [Bug 1901271] [NEW] update to 20.10 dies looking at init scripts in libc package
Public bug reported: my upgrade from 20.04 to 20.10 hung on `libc` with a message that was something like "checking init scripts". I had to kill it from the terminal, and then of course the whole upgrade failed. after the upgrade failed, X repeatedly crashed until I had to log out. Running `aptitude dist-upgrade` from a console seems to have resolved the upgrade successfully, including re-running the `libc` config stage that failed before, so it's unclear what caused it to hang. [Bug 1044549] Re: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up!
This 8-years problem still exists on 20.04 (!) As commented in #4 back in 2012, the particular focus-mode triggers crazy situations. Ex: autologin + autostart app's and/or auto-move windows (dedicated desktop per window) After GDM (auto)login, the "gcr-prompter" can not be focused or even worst: not even visible. But still holds a TOTAL focus (grabbing all inputs). That means neither the popup nor the session can be closed, Gnome-shell can't be restarted, and the only possibility is to switch to tty, use `ps`, determinate the name of the process... what not even a workaround for a normal user. I think there is no reason that justify keeping a user from using "Alt-F2 / restart". About why this popup start in the first place is, IMHO, not a subject (I've 1 owncloud + 2 google accounts there and I can't tell why this come up) ... But *if* this popup arises it must not brick the whole session. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1044549 Title: The "Access Prompt" randomly pop up! [Bug 1895157] Re: Boinc cannot enable RPC access to start client or manager
I had the same problem in Ubuntu 20.10 and was able to get boinc working again by doing the following: 1. Stop boinc service and kill any boinc processes 2. Remove the gui_rpc_auth.cfg from /etc/boinc (It would probably be safer to change its name to gui_rpc_auth.cfg.old or something.) 3. Reboot computer. 4. Start boinc-client After doing it, I found that the gui_rpc_auth.cfg was recreated with a password in it. This is a system generated password, not one that the user knows anything about. I didn't have to change firewall settings. Perhaps the reason that boinc didn't work in 20.10 was because a corrupted gui_rpc_auth.cfg file was included in the distribution.I noticed that the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file before I removed it in Step 2 above had a byte size of one byte. After is was recreated it was still a small file, but larger than one byte. I probably had to temporarily change permissions in /etc/boinc, so this isn't a solution for a multi-user system, but hopefully it will give the package maintainers a clue on how to resolve this. Without a fix, boinc simply doesn't work in 20.10. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1895157 Title: Boinc cannot enable RPC access to start client or manager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc/+bug/1895157/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1901266] [NEW] system slagish, thermal keep frequency at 400MHz
Public bug reported: This morning I upgraded to 20.10 from 20.04 The system was quite slow although I have a fast machine. My virtual windows 10 on virtualbox became unusable. When I tried to have the virtual machine open, I could not participate properly in a zoom call (I could still hear the people but they said that my voice was very choppy) On 20.04 I was super-happy with the speed and I could have as many apps running as I want. Based on google I started looking at % journalctl --follow and this shows quite a few errors but not repeating often enough to explain it. Then I googled some more and found that /boot/efi was writing and reading. Then I googled some more and thought I had trouble with gnome. So I reset it to default % dconf reset -f /org/gnome/ and disabled the extensions. This made things slightly better but by far not acceptable. After lots of searching I checked the frequency of the CPUs and it was at the minimum 400Hz (as shown by i7z and also other tools). I tried setting the governor with cpufreqctl and similar methods but this did not change anything. I then found an old bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1769236 and tried % sudo systemctl stop thermald this seems to work. After a few seconds the frequency shown in i7z goes to ~4500 MHz and the virtual machine seems to work fine. Defining "KERNELS" to be CURRENT_KERNEL allows the configure to work: case "$1" in configure) # Added manually, since we mangled the arguments, and dpkg-maintscript-helper # won't work if [ -n "$2" ] && `dpkg --compare-versions "$2" lt "340.106-0ubuntu5"`; then rm -f /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-340.conf fi CURRENT_KERNEL=$(uname -r) KERNELS=$CURRENT_KERNEL NEWEST_KERNEL=$(get_newest_kernel "$KERNELS") Seriously - this has been an issue for over a year, and nobody bothered to look into it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853977 Title: nvidia-340 dpkg: error: version '-' has bad syntax: revision number is empty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1853977/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1901259] [NEW] Installing Ubuntu on HP Envy dv7 Notebook PC grub install crashes
Public bug reported: Towards the end of the installation, I got a dialog window that indicated a failure with grub writing to a certain partition. [Bug 1900642] Re: sssd won't start
I may add something else. During sssd install there were several warning messages: Configurando sssd-common (2.3.1-3) ... Creating SSSD system user & group... adduser: Aviso: El directorio personal «/var/lib/sss» no pertenece al usuario que está creando. Warning: found usr.sbin.sssd in /etc/apparmor.d/force-complain, forcing complain mode Warning from /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.sssd (/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.sssd line 54): Caching disabled for: 'usr.sbin.sssd' due to force complain About the first warning "adduser: Aviso: El directorio personal «/var/lib/sss» no pertenece al usuario que está creando." (translation: adduser: Warning: The personal directory «/var/lib/sss» doesn't belong to the user that is being created). I can tell that it's true; the directory /var/lib/sss is owned by root instead of sssd. All the directories and files inside /var/lib/sss are owned by sssd user except /var/lib/sss/deskprofile directory that is also owned by root. Probably not a problem, but may be also patched. [Bug 1901196] Re: kernel module failed to build [ Bad return status for module build on kernel: 5.8.0-25-generic (x86_64)]
Hello, I'm the same. I started researching and tried: sudo dkms --verbose build -m nvidia-340 -v 340.108 and it returned the same error. Since I still have an old kernel installed I tried: sudo dkms --verbose build -m nvidia-340 -v 340.108 -k 5.4.0-26-generic and it worked perfect, just for that kernel. I don't have much knowledge, and I don't know where the error can be with the 5.8.0-25-generic kernel. [Bug 1900356] Re: transition from systemd to snapd breaks functionality
Ahm, yes, there's another problem, but completely different one. The upgrade procedure vom 18.04 to 20.04 converts LXD images from the old debian based LXD to the snap based LXD and thus from /var/lib/lxd to /var/snap/lxd/common/lxd and thus out of the encrypted directory. I'm not sure whether it causes any trouble with LXD or snap to mount an ecrypted file system to /var/snap/lxd/common/lxd or /var/snap/lxd/common and whether I could do it before upgrading to avoid data beeing copied to non-encrypted disks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900356 Title: transition from systemd to snapd breaks functionality To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1900356/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901125 Title: package bcmwl-kernel-source 6.30.223.271+bdcom-0ubuntu7 failed to install/upgrade: installed bcmwl-kernel-source package post- installation script subprocess returned error exit status 10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1901125/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1901020] Re: new upstream release 2020d
** Description changed: New upstream version, affecting the following future timestamps: - - Fiji starts DST later than usual, on 2020-12-20. - - Palestine ends DST earlier than predicted, on 2020-10-24. + - Fiji starts DST later than usual, on 2020-12-20. + - Palestine ends DST earlier than predicted, on 2020-10-24. + - Revised predictions for Morocco's changes starting in 2023. + - Canada's Yukon changes to -07 on 2020-11-01, not 2020-03-08. + - Macquarie Island has stayed in sync with Tasmania since 2011. + - Casey, Antarctica is at +08 in winter and +11 in summer since 2018. + + Additionally, upstream removed the "old" SystemV timezones, but the SRU + will ensure that they are kept. Subsequently, these should be checked + for using the following: + + zdump -v SystemV/MST7 + zdump -v America/Phoenix + + The information returned by SystemV/MST7 should be included in + America/Phoenix's output. Verification is done with 'zdump'. The first timezone that gets changed in the updated package is dumped with "zdump -v $region/$timezone_that_changed" (this needed to be greped for in /usr/share/zoneinfo/). [For example: "zdump -v Africa/Casablanca".] This is compared to the same output after the updated package got installed. If those are different the verification is considered done. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1901020 Title: new upstream release 2020d To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/1901020/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
