Re: [Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%
I'd like if possible to ask a question to those who report that the nvidia kms workaround "works". In my experience, it makes indeed possible to work with fractional scaling, but the performance is absolutely abysmal: I have tearing issues, drawing issues and general extreme low performance, comparable to the Xorg driver. Despite this being OK while waiting for proper support, I don't think this can be a definitive solution. So, is it just me doing something wrong and possibly needing to fix something else or is this the same experience for everybody? No polemic intent, just would like to assess what "it works" means in this context. [Bug 1900008] Re: Sessions of screen does not keep running in background
Since this started to seem different between Mate as discussed above I was giving a few more terminals I regularly use a try: - tilix (VTE based) - warns me that I'll close processes under this session, keeps screen alive detached - yakuake (kde based) - warns me that I'll close processes under this session, keeps screen alive detached - konsole - warns me that I'll close processes under this session, keeps screen alive detached - gnome-terminal - no warning, keeps screen alive detached So screen never totally died in any of those, just remained detached as one would want/expect. Since I even tried several KDE based terminals, but not had KDE itself running (I had default gnome based Desktop). I wonder if there might be some general KDE-setting that changes how closing sessions work. @Gustavo - when you get to retry it on a VM as you mentioned, would you mind trying the same on a KDE-Neon vs a default-Gnome desktop? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198 Title: Sessions of screen does not keep running in background To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/screen/+bug/198/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1906970] Re: dpkg hook hostname error
That indeed contains the offending "search .". Since the file is managed by systemd-resolved the question becomes where exactly that comes from. To ensure this is the case check /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf which is the file that pushes info from systemd-resolved into resolv.conf. There it should also have the "search ." entry. Furthermore you can check which connection of yours is proving that. $ systemd-resolve --status In my example /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.con holds "search fritz.box buildd" of which I can see in --status that "buildd" is from a VPN connection I have and "fritz.box" is from my local router (seen on lan and wlan interface). That could be the first step to get a feeling "where it is coming from" It could be: - from your dhcp server that pushed this search domain - from your local dhcp config that has an entry to append this search domain - "search" statement via local config in /etc/netplan/* - as config of "Domains=" in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf - somewhere buried int he network-manager gui (If you are on a desktop) - ... (I might have missed one) But the next step IMHO is to find where that config really comes from to adapt/fix it there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906970 Title: dpkg hook hostname error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1906970/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1907893] Re: package openssh-server 1:8.3p1-1 failed to install/upgrade: installed openssh-server package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes. Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with the formerly working configuration. But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state. Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart. Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete. Depending on your particular case there are two solutions: - either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it. - Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting the service will work. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1907893 Title: package openssh-server 1:8.3p1-1 failed to install/upgrade: installed openssh-server package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1907893/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1908012] [NEW] System did not boot anymore after broken cable
Public bug reported: My system configuration looks as follows: ISP Router <--> Own TP Link Wifi Router <--> 1 Gbps Switch <---> Desktop and switched off laptop / backup-server My desktop can run upto 50 VBox VMs, but normally only Xubuntu 20.04 is loaded for my communication stuff (email, kde-connect etc). The cable between ISP Router and TP Link Router did go defect. The system did not boot/login any-more and stayed in a loop probably trying to get a connection with the DNS server 1.1.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (the ISP Router). I tried to switch off stuff, disconnect cable and I think it continued the boot after I disconnected the Ethernet cable of the desktop. I will include the corresponding boot log. Most VMs did have the same issue, they did not boot/login any-more. Exception were the Windows VMs (XP, 10 and 7) and Fedora 33 (Linux 5.9). [Bug 1908010] [NEW] Thunderbird filters doesn't handle base64 encoded message
Public bug reported: User is able to define e-mail filters in Thunderbird. This can cover multiple fields like From:, To:, Subject: and Content . Using Content option allows a way to provide string which will be matched against e-mail content. Although this doesn't work when message is base64 encoded - this format is properly displayed by Thunderbird but it seems filters came to early and match user provided clear text against encoded text in e-mail. I confirmed this by defining filter with base64 fragment as desired string but this is not an option for more dynamic messages - adding one space before clear text string will change entrie string due to how base64 encode work so it needs to fully decode e-mail and then apply filters ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: thunderbird 1:68.10.0+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 Uname: Linux 5.10.0-051000rc6-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.20 Architecture: amd64 BuildID: 20200629235513 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Mon Dec 14 02:19:49 2020 DefaultProfileExtensions: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing DefaultProfileIncompatibleExtensions: Unavailable (corrupt or non-existant compatibility.ini or extensions.sqlite) DefaultProfileLocales: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing DefaultProfilePrefErrors: Unexpected character ',' before close parenthesis @ /usr/lib/thunderbird/omni.ja:greprefs.js:1141 DefaultProfileThemes: extensions.sqlite corrupt or missing InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-05-08 (2046 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release amd64 (20150422) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=pl_PL.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash Profiles: Profile1 (Default) - LastVersion=None/None (Out of date) Profile0 - LastVersion=68.10.0/20200629235513 (In use) SourcePackage: thunderbird UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-08-26 (840 days ago) ** Affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic third-party-packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908010 Title: Thunderbird filters doesn't handle base64 encoded message To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1908010/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The temporary directory needs to be user settable. One size fits all is not working. Déjà-dup runs, and if the desktop is open at the time, a brief message is displayed. There may also be a desktop notification to be seen, but both of these are easily missed. There is no log file associated with the Déjà-dup control GUI. [Bug 1908002] [NEW] installed linux-image-4.15.0-124-generic package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: The error message I received for this problem invited me to submit a bug report. (1) PROBLEM: I upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 on 12 Dec. 2020. I first made sure the 18.04 system was properly updated. (2) METHOD OF UPGRADE: I upgraded using the standard "Software Updater", hence I had no opportunity to make a mistake. (3) ERROR MESSAGE: The process went smoothly until the very end before "restart", when the following message appeared in a box: "The upgrade will continue but the 'linux-image-4.15.0-124-generic' package may not be in a working state. Please consider submitting a bug report about it. installed linux-image-4.15.0-124-generic package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1" (4) CURRENT KERNEL: "uname -r" indicates that the current kernel is "5.4.0-58-generic". So "4.15.0-124-generic" apparently did NOT install. CURRENT MALFUNCTIONS (1) The main problem so far is that updates are not possible. Using the "Software Updater", I receive an "Not all updates can be installed" box. A "partial upgrade" says "removing linux-image-4.15.0-124" and then gives me the same message as above: "The upgrade will continue ...". Finally: "Could not install the uprades. The upgrade has aborted. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg-configure -a)". Then: "Upgrade complete. The upgrade has completed but there were errors during the upgrade process." (2) The system does not awaken from sleep properly. It shows only a dark blue screen or complete multicoloured snow with vertical lines or various patterns. No login screen. I have to reboot with "Alt. PrintScr. REISUB" NORMAL FUNCTIONS SO FAR There is an internet connection, email works, browsers work and the Gnome screen shows up normally. ATTEMPTED REMEDY ~$ sudo apt-get install -f Reading package lists... Hi everybody, Till today, I had issue with internal mic which was undetected (Dell G3 3590) Few months ago, I updated my Ubuntu to latest LTS, 20.04.1 That didn't help. But... after a bunch of regular updates and upgrades, today, I have deleted line which "fixed" issue with dummy output/input. file: sudo vim /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf deleted line: options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0 => note that this command turns off mic (if I understand this part correctly dmic_detect=0) After restart, internal mic works :) Try it out! [Bug 1907994] [NEW] Libreoffice's "send file/pdf per email" doesn't attach file
Public bug reported: On a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install + all package upgrades as of now, using thunderbird as email client, the libreoffice's "send file/pdf per email" doesn't attach the file/pdf. When the menu File->send->send by email as pdf is activated, an thunderbird email composer windows appears but without the attached file. [Bug 1907991] [NEW] Touchpad not working dynabook PORTEGE-X30L-G-10J
Public bug reported: This may be related to bug #1903858 “Synaptics Touchpad not working dynabook TECRA A40-G”. Release: Kubuntu 20.10 freshly out of the box. (The same problem observed with live versions of Ubuntu 20.04.) xserver-xorg-input-libinput: Installed: 0.30.0-1 Candidate: 0.30.0-1 Version table: *** 0.30.0-1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu groovy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Problem: Touchpad _almost_ does not work at all. The cursor moves a little from time to time, and reacts to buttons from time to time, in an indeterminate manner. There is no problem under Windows – touchpad works perfectly well there. Not sure this problem is specific to libinput. Tried replacing it with synaptics (as described here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1088559/ubuntu-18-04-switch-back-to- synaptics-as-input-driver) and the problem persisted. [Bug 1907985] Re: usr_bin_fcitx-dbus-watcher is crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1907985/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1903858] Re: Synaptics Touchpad not working dynabook TECRA A40-G
I have a very similar problem with Toshiba/dynabook PORTEGE X30L-G-10J and Kubuntu 20.10. Touchpad _almost_ does not work at all, from time to time cursor moves a little. [Bug 1906496] Re: [SRU] mgr can be very slow in a large ceph cluster
@Corey, yes, I am happy to do the SRU verification when the packages are available. I've updated the [Test case] section to note a simplified, functional test. ** Description changed: - [Impact] + [Impact] Ceph upstream implemented a new feature [1] that will check/report those long network ping times between osds, but it introduced an issue that ceph-mgr might be very slow because it needs to dump all the new osd network ping stats [2] for some tasks, this can be bad especially when the cluster has large number of osds. Since these kind osd network ping stats doesn't need to be exposed to the python mgr module. so, it only makes the mgr doing more work than it needs to, it could cause the mgr slow or even hang and could cause the cpu usage of mgr process constantly high. The fix is to disable the ping time dump for those mgr python modules. This resulted in ceph-mgr not responding to commands and/or hanging (and had to be restarted) in clusters with a large number of OSDs. [0] is the upstreambug. It was backported to Nautilus but rejected for Luminous and Mimic because they reached EOL in upstream. But I want to backport to these two releases Ubuntu/UCA. The major fix from upstream is here [3], and also I found an improvement commit [4] that submitted later in another PR. [Test Case] Deploy a Ceph cluster (Luminous 13.2.9 or Mimic 13.2.9) with large number of Ceph OSDs (600+). During normal operations of the cluster, as the ceph-mgr dumps the network ping stats regularly, this problem would manifest. This is relatively hard to reproduce as the ceph-mgr may not always get overloaded and thus not hang. + + A simpler version could be to deploy a Ceph cluster with as many OSDs as + the hardware/system setup allows and drive I/O on the cluster for + sometime. Then various queries could be sent to the manager to verify it + does report and doesn't get stuck. [Regression Potential] Fix has been accepted upstream (the changes are here in "sync" with upstream to the extent these old releases match the latest source code) and have been confirmed to work. So the risk is minimal. At worst, this could affect modules that consume the stats from ceph-mgr (such as prometheus or other monitoring scripts/tools) and thus becomes less useful. But still shouldn't cause any problems to the operations of the cluster itself. [Other Info] - In addition to the fix from [1], another commit [4] is also cherry-picked and backported here - this was also accepted upstream. - Since the ceph-mgr hangs when affected, this also impact sosreport collection - commands time out as the mgr doesn't respond and thus info get truncated/not collected in that case. This fix should help avoid that problem in sosreports.
