[Bug 1874161] Re: kpcli is unable to open a kdbx file if the file is locked by both a password and a key file

2020-12-29 Thread Alex Wang
Hello Lester,

Thank you for your guidance. I tried renaming the kdbx file to end with
a kdb extension instead. I then used kpcli to try opening the kdb file
with the same key file, but I still encountered the same error: Couldn't
load the file kpstuff2.kdb: The database key appears invalid or else the
database is corrupt.

Is there another way to test if the file is a v1 or v2 Keepass file?

[Bug 1909622] Re: lubuntu hirsute install; calamares error

2020-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
the system actually boots... (comment #6 install), and system appears
normal, however prior to this test was a complete Lubuntu hirsute
install with the current daily.. so is it all new?

Of note:
- no command history seen which normally has a "df -h; neofetch" in it at
minimum, indication of format
- normally I adjust screens to match my setup, however due to another bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxqt-config/+bug/1905947), this
currently can't be used as every login appears as if first-login (my screen
adjustments aren't saved)

It looks like install itself is good, issue is error message.

[Bug 1909622] Re: lubuntu hirsute install; calamares error

2020-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Another QA-test install & error again. (same d755-8 box)

This time I used the "Install System" option in System menu again... and
error.

Two installs that worked used desktop icon, and "Install Lubuntu 20.10"
in menu.

Of note :

lubuntu@lubuntu:~$ ls .cache/
fontconfig  icon-cache.kcache   mesa_shader_cache  pcmanfm-qt
gvfslxqt-notificationd  openbox

No `calamares` directory in ~/.cache ???

[Bug 1887795] Re: snap "chromium" has bad plugs or slots: system-packages-doc

2020-12-29 Thread Ishrak
To silence the warning run the command
`snap okay`
If you are concerned, you may uninstall chromium from snap
`snap remove --purge chromium`
and instead install using apt
`sudo apt install chromium-browser`

[Bug 1909622] Re: lubuntu hirsute install; calamares error

2020-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
I went and did an install on hp.dc7700 and didn't have issues (internet
was disabled being primary difference)

I then repeated the QA-test install on d755-8 box this bug report was
filed on, in what should be identical (calamares started from different
point; but I can't see that as an issue.. I loop between the
desktop.link, and 2x system.menu.links..

the link I used I believe for the QA-test when this report was filed was
"Install System" (not desktop link, nor the 'Install Lubuntu 20.10'
option)

I fear this bug report has minimal/no value though; it didn't occur to me to
scan `dmesg` or `journalctl` for clues until after I'd started shutdown (I
expected them to be saved in bug report).

Re-running the install didn't have issues.

It *seems* to mostly start happening after resuming from suspend, but
its too random to say for sure.

[Bug 1896091] Re: [i915] Noise-like lines of graphics corruption when moving windows in Xorg sessions

2020-12-29 Thread Corey Huinker
This bug reoccurred just now for the first time since I installed the
patched kernel.

Am currently on

```
Linux floombort 5.8.0-34-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 18:01:14 UTC 2020
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
```

And Alt+F2 then 'r' fixed it again.

This max 1024G size applies to the 512byte sector, most NVME ssd can
change ( LBA format ) to 4K and the max limits will be 16T than.

Can also confirm on Pop!_OS 20.10 on a Thelio R2 with AMD graphics. I'd
thought maybe this was an Nvidia binary blob issue but maybe it's a core
Gnome issue.

Good luck to any partially blind person trying to use this :\

[Bug 1909616] Re: Same user appears to be logged multiple times

2020-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Are you sure you're not logged in multiple times? eg. via a text
terminal (ctrl+alt+f4 for example)

(I'm not sure if this should be filed against gnome-shell, gnome-session
or gdm3; I've selected gnome-session for now)

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1909616

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1909617] [NEW] Password is asked for everything

2020-12-29 Thread Plamen
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to LTS 20.04 ubuntu started asking me for my password for
everything. On login Im asked for it 10+ times (check attached images).
It asks on reboot, suspend, start/stop wireless, etc.

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04

I've already searched a lot on this but nothing helps.
Things I've tried:
- renaming .profile to .profile.backup and restarting
from
https://askubuntu.com/questions/249363/my-ubuntu-system-is-asking-login-again-and-again-when-i-even-entered-the-correct
- removing .Xauthority and .ICEauthority
- sudo chmod -R u+w /home/user
from
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48201511/ubuntu-asking-for-password-again-and-again

None of them helped

[Bug 1909612] Re: Closing laptop lid doesn't suspend with external monitor plugged in

2020-12-29 Thread Dustin Nisbet-Jones
Hi Chris,

I see your point but would counter that having the option ticked for
'Suspend when laptop lid is closed' and not having it do that when an
external monitor is plugged in is more a bug than a feature.

I agree that this is actually a feature some users may want but this
should be something which can be controlled by the user via a toggle
with the default behaviour being consistent with lid closed = suspend
regardless of whether there is a monitor plugged in or not.

If having a mouse plugged in prevented the laptop from suspending with
the lid closed, this would certainly be a bug.

Thanks for your response.

[Bug 1903468] Re: Endless "Cache Refresh" on Software Update settings change

2020-12-29 Thread Plamen
I`m unable to reproduce it anymore. Except in the case for the openvpn
source from this address: http://build.openvpn.net/debian/openvpn/stable

Managed to see the error when opening the software update from terminal
via `software-properties-gtk` -> in the attached file and below.

Apparently there is some issue with the openvpn repo and the error
handling in such cases is failing somehow:

```
$ software-properties-gtk
[Bug 1903468] Re: Endless "Cache Refresh" on Software Update settings change
2020-12-29 Thread Plamen
I`m unable to reproduce it anymore. Except in the case for the openvpn
source from this address: http://build.openvpn.net/debian/openvpn/stable
Managed to see the error when opening the software update from terminal
via `software-properties-gtk` -> in the attached file and below.
Apparently there is some issue with the openvpn repo and the error
handling in such cases is failing somehow:
```
$ software-properties-gtk
Traceback (most recent call last):

"/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/softwareproperties/gtk/DialogCacheOutdated.py",
line 86, in on_pktask_finish

[Bug 1909612] Re: Closing laptop lid doesn't suspend with external monitor plugged in

2020-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I can imagine many users using an external monitor and expecting their system
to continue operation as they watch movie on external monitor, or work using
external/dock keyboard, and being annoyed if their system suspended on lid
closure. I personally see your issue as a support one, as not everyone will
want the lid closure to suspend laptop.

[Bug 1909612] [NEW] Closing laptop lid doesn't suspend with external monitor plugged in

2020-12-29 Thread Dustin Nisbet-Jones
Public bug reported:

I wish to have my laptop suspend when plugged into my dock with an HDMI
display added. Instead, the system stays on with the monitor becoming
the primary display. Suspending manually will work.

I have tried editing logind.conf and uncommenting
HandleLidSwitch=suspend and the other related items but to no avail.

[Bug 1909601] Re: Cannot upgrade to 20.04 for no apparent reason

2020-12-29 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
You still have packages from the oibaf PPA (and maybe some other PPA's)
installed. You need to run 'ppa-purge' on those PPA's before upgrading.
After you do that, try again and let us know if the upgrade still fails.

[Bug 1691017] [NEW] UPON SETTING UP MY NEW LINUX OS, I ENCOUNTERED A COUPLE PUZZLING THINGS: MY WINDOWS SYSTEM WAS HACKED; IS HE STILL IN HERE EVEN WITH LINUX NOW?

2020-12-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

UPON SETTING UP MY SYSTEM WITH THE ZORIN LINUX THAT MY GEEK GUYS
INSTALLED FOR ME, I GOT A MESSAGE AT ONE POINT THAT SOMEONE OR SOMETHING
WAS ATTEMPTING TO DO SOMETHING THAT THIS SYSTEM DIDN'T AGREE WITH. I
TOOK A PICTURE OF THE MESSAGE: "NETWORK SERVICE DISCOVERY DISABLED -
YOUR CURRENT NETWORK HAS A .LOCAL DOMAIN, WHICH IS NOT RECOMMENDED AND
INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE AVAHI NETWORK SERVICE DISCOVERY. THE SERVICE HAS
BEEN DISABLED." THAT WAS MESSAGE #1. THEN LATER, I GOT ANOTHER MESSAGE
WHILE STILL TRYING TO GET UPDATES AND WHEN I CLICKED ON THE BUTTON, I
GOT ANOTHER MESSAGE WINDOW: "PROBLEM IN SHIM-SIGNED - THE PROBLEM CANNOT
BE REPORTED: THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL ZORIN PACKAGE. PLEASE REMOVE ANY
THIRD PARTY PACKAGE AND TRY AGAIN." MY MACHINE WAS HACKED IN THE LAST
COUPLE YEARS, AND I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT MY SUSPICIONS WERE
CONFIRMED: IT WAS HACKED BY THE CIA/NSA FROM THE GOVERNMENT! THERE WAS
SO MUCH EVIDENCE IN MY SYSTEM HIDDEN THAT THEY CAME AND WENT IN REAL-
TIME; THEY MESSED WITH MY MOUSE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO USE IT, AND NOT
EVEN 24 FACTORY RESETS GOT RID OF THEM. TOPPING THAT OFF, THEY HACKED
INTO A BRAND NEW LAPTOP I BOUGHT WHILE I WAS SETTING IT UP AND BEFORE I
COULD EVEN FINISH, THEY WERE THERE WAITING FOR ME! I SEE HERE THEY ARE,
TRYING TO GET SET UP IN MY NEW LINUX, BUT I AM DETERMINED TO FIGHT -
HOPING THAT THEY ALL DROP DEAD BEFORE I DO! IN SOFTWARE &
UPDATES>ADDITIONAL DRIVERS>UNKNOWN:UNKNOWN IS THE HACKER'S FILE, I AM
QUITE CERTAIN! I TOOK A PICTURE OF THAT SCREEN TOO! THEN I RESTARTED MY
SYSTEM TO MAKE CERTAIN THE SETTING STAYS ON DO NOT USE THE DEVICE.
PLEASE, IF YOU CAN SPOT HOW THEY GOT IN, OR FIND THEIR DOOR AND ANY
CODE, SEND ME AN UPDATE THAT WILL PERMANENTLY REMOVE THEM BECAUSE I
BELIEVE THEY GOT IN WITH MICROSOFT APPROVAL. NO MATTER WHAT I DID TO
DISABLE THEM OR HAMSTRING THEM, AT THE VERY LEAST, THEY ALWAYS CAME
BOUNCING BACK WITH A VENGEANCE! I'D LOVE TO DEAL THEM A FINAL DEATH
BLOW, WHICH IS WHY MY GEEK GUYS TOLD ME THAT THIS LINUX SYSTEM SHOULD
WORK FOR ME. I SURE HOPE SO! I'D LOVE THIS NIGHTMARE TO BE OVER WITH
FOREVER!

[Bug 1901689] Re: Merge steam 1.0.0.67-2 from debian sid to ubuntu hirsute

2020-12-29 Thread Andrew Hayzen
Yup, I saw that 1.0.0.67-3 is now in Debian sid, as we have already
community tested and prepared 1.0.0.67-2 I propose to submit this (it's
just waiting for people to return from holidays so that it can be
uploaded hopefully in early January), then in around February before the
freezes for hirsute begin I'll do another sync of whatever is in Debian
sid.

Note that landing that one merge alone will not allow autosync to be re-
enabled as there are further differences between Debian and Ubuntu (eg
such as an epoch to the version number, nvidia packaging differences,
disabling of dconf questions for software centers etc). So we'll have to
keep manually syncing for now.

Re: [Bug 1899882] Re: hdmi monitor on

2020-12-29 Thread John Dunlap
Hi Koba,

5.6.0-1036-oem is much more polite than any of the 5.10 candidates you have
provided. 5.6.0-1036-oem boots to the correct configuration and usually
recovers from suspend to the correct configuration. Even better, it
doesn't turn off the dock when suspending or recovering from suspend.

My current configuration is mirrored with both the external monitor at 60
Hz and the laptop screen at 120 Hz, both set to 1920x1080. I would rather
have the two screens be separate but the mirrored configuration seems to be
a bit more stable when recovering from suspend.

BTW, a number of months ago I updated my dock with
WD19FirmwareUpdateLinux_01.00.14.

Regards, John

[Bug 1909599] [NEW] LibreOffice fails to fully resume focus with alt+tab

2020-12-29 Thread Yotam Benshalom
Public bug reported:

Using updated focal, with nvidia proprietary driver, rtl (Hebrew)
interface, all gnome-shell extensions disabled.

When navigating to an open copy of LibreOffice with Alt+Tab, the
application window receives focus, but fails to reflect user input. The
carret is not shown, typed characters are not shown, clicking menus does
not show response, etc. In order to resolve this I have to use Alt+Tab
to navigate away to another app and back to LibreOffice.

To reproduce:
1. Load Firefox, then load LibreOffice Writer and open a document.
2. Use Alt+Tab to move to Firefox.
3. Click several times inside the Firefox window, highlight text, etc.
4. Use Alt+Tab to move back to Writer.
5. Type any character.

Expected result:
- The character is shown on screen.

Actual result:
- More often than not, the character is typed in Writer, but the screen is not
updated to reflect this. Using Alt+Tab again to navigate to firefox and back to
Writer resolves this. This makes working with LibreOffice quite difficult.

It's possible it happens elsewhere, but I haven't seen it yet.

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location

2020-12-29 Thread Wolfgang
GizmoChicken, I apologize for my post. Wanted to delete it but cannot
figure out how.

Was just so frustrated in the moment about the non-communication about
progress and that Canonical decided to push snap in the current state,
even though they participated from the beginning in this thread and are
fully aware that they are putting a visible directory right in the user
home directory that cannot be moved/renamed.

I try to be hopeful, but sometimes it is getting so difficult. Was so
hyped about comment #259. Maybe I am just not familiar enough with the
process. Do you know where this design document was published? Just
anxious that there is no progress and it was just an empty announcement.

[Bug 1901689] Re: Merge steam 1.0.0.67-2 from debian sid to ubuntu hirsute

2020-12-29 Thread AsciiWolf
Steam 1.0.0.67-3 is now available in Debian sid.

Also, this MR will have to be merged in Debian to allow the steam
package autosync (it is currently a downstream Ubuntu patch):
https://salsa.debian.org/games-team/steam/-/merge_requests/2 - It may
however require some changes (updates from the current AppData file used
in Ubuntu) first before merging. Any chance that you could do this,
Andrew? :-)

[Bug 1909594] [NEW] No feedback when unmounting is finished

2020-12-29 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
Public bug reported:

I'm using "Files" 3.36.3-stable on Ubuntu 20.04. When writing large
amounts of data to USB HDD it can take up to a minute to fully flush the
data to HDD.

"Files" provides a button for unmounting of my USB HDD. When I click
this button unmount is started with "Unmounting usbdisk - Disconnecting
from filesystem" appearing in notification area. This notification stays
on the screen until I remove it with "X". It stays on the screen even
after unmounting is finished.

But in GUI there is NO notification that unmounting has finished! And if
the notification is removed (with "X") there is also no indication that
unmounting is still in progress.

Re: [Bug 1899882] Re: hdmi monitor on

2020-12-29 Thread John Dunlap
changed /etc/default/grub and attached.
Also attached /var/log/dmesg

The external display does not turn on at boot but by requesting different
"Display" GUI settings the dock is rebooted (Ethernet connection is stopped
and started) and then sometimes the external display is started but usually
with incorrect settings such as wrong aspect ratios and mirrored instead of
separate.
Also, the mouse (not attached to the dock) becomes unresponsive for several
seconds at a time.
