[Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed
I have successfully resolved the problem. I don't know exactly what helped because I did a few things. Namely: I switched all SATA cables from the second controller to the first (my computer motherboard has two SATA controllers) and disabled the Compatibility Support Module. Unfortunately, CSM turned off the BIOS boot options, only UEFI was left. After changing the settings and rebooting, the message "Initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed" was still showing on the screen, but the system continued the boot process and finally saw the Ubuntu Server 20.04 installer -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835660 Title: initramfs unpacking failed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1835660/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1906086] Re: DIsplay is limited to top half of the screen
Hi Glenn, That first screenshot in comment #17 is most telling. It shows the BIOS screen is rendered half right and half wrong. So given some of the problems persist in the BIOS screen (when no OS is running) AND in Windows 10, I think it's likely the screen is faulty and needs replacing. But maybe we can still improve the Linux situation... Next, 1. Please verify the problem occurs in both 'Ubuntu' and 'Ubuntu on Wayland' sessions. 2. Log into a regular 'Ubuntu' session and run: xrandr --verbose > xrandrv.txt cat /sys/class/drm/*/edid > edids.bin and attach the resulting files here. 3. Look in Settings > Screen Display and try selecting different values of 'Resolution' and 'Refresh Rate'. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1906086 Title: DIsplay is limited to top half of the screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1906086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1912276] Re: Ubuntu Server 20.04 installation to drive with BIOS set to legacy mode results in non-booting drive
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. The following needs to be performed, HOWEVER you have filed this bug against `ubiquity` (ie. the desktop installer), and NOT a server installer (`subiquity` (https://ubuntu.com/blog/tag/subiquity) or `debian installer`). If it's a desktop installation problem, you can run apport-collect now, however if it's a server installation, the package should be changed first. (you do mention 20.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso which uses subiquity. If you run the `ubuntu-bug` on the system in future, the correct package will be detected by your system) -- Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 1912276 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912276 Title: Ubuntu Server 20.04 installation to drive with BIOS set to legacy mode results in non-booting drive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1912276/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1906128] Re: Touchpad not detected on ByteSpeed C15B laptop
Hi Po-Hsu I spent this evening installing Ubuntu. I tried Xenial, Bionic, Focal and Groovy. The proposed release worked on Xenial, but not on any of the others. Just to confirm the process: I installed a fresh copy of the release, then went to the developer options tab in the Software and Updates app and ticked the proposed box. When this was done, the app updated the cache. Then I used Software updater to upgrade and it worked (or not). For the releases that didn't work I also tried using apt from the terminal. Updated and then upgraded. Rebooted and then tested for the trackpad function. Only worked in Xenial. Let me know if I needed to do something different or to try again. 1. Next time the problem happens for real, please take a photo and attach it here. [Bug 1880749] Re: python3 virtualenvs include (broken) bundled pip deps
> You will notice there are a plethora of extra packages in the virtual environment that should not normally be there, resulting in a dirty virtual environment. Thanks for the bug report. I can't see any crashes or freezes in the attached files. Next time the problem happens, please reboot and then in a Terminal run: journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt and attach the resulting text file here. Please also follow these steps to check for past crashes: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. [Bug 1911860] Re: coturn does not start after update of Jan 13 '21 (20.04.1 LTS)
Seems like the problem is that you are using a port below 1024 for coturn. As these ports need coturn to be started as root or as an alternative you can modify the file /lib/systemd/system/coturn.service and include AmbientCapabilities=CAP_NET_BIND_SERVICE in the [Service] section. [Bug 1912276] [NEW] Ubuntu Server 20.04 installation to drive with BIOS set to legacy mode results in non-booting drive
Public bug reported: I opened a forum ticket about this observation here: "Unable to boot from HDD 20.04 installed with BIOS in Legacy mode" https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2455005&p=14015093 I suspect there might be a defect in Ubuntu Server 20.04 ISO. I was loading it onto a ThinkPad to test out the new Ubuntu Server LTS release. I had the ThinkPad BIOS set to boot from legacy mode disks, all UEFI disabled. The partitions Ubuntu Server 20.04 created for me were as follows: Disklabel Type: gpt sda1 BIOS Boot sda2 Linux filesystem (which I selected xfs) The system failed to boot from the HDD. When trying to boot from the system's HDD, I only am able to get the ThinkPad "Boot Menu / Application Menu" screen to come up. Selecting ATA HDD0 loops back around to the same menu. It was suggested that Ubuntu 20.04 really prefers to boot from drives in UEFI mode. I changes the BIOS settings, wiped the disk during another test installation. This time the partitions the installer created were as follows: Disklabel Type: gpt sda1 EFI System sda2 Linux filesystem (which I selected xfs) And the system does boot from the HDD now. So is this a defect in the installer for Ubuntu Server 20.04 that it does not produce a bootable drive when the computer BIOS is set to legacy boot mode? I was expecting to see the legacy boot partition table type not be a gpt partition table. Might that have something to do with the failure to boot? I think the fact that for the legacy boot installation, Ubuntu Server did at least create a first partition of type "BIOS boot". <><><><> I tried the same installation on the same ThinkPad from the ubuntu-20.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso disk. Same results as before. Looks like Ubuntu Server has a defect booting from disks where the BIOS is set to legacy mode. This is not broken in Xubuntu 20.04 installation. Logging an Ubuntu Server installer defect. <><><><> Xubuntu 20.04 does NOT have this same defect. Xubuntu 20.04 boots properly when installed to systems with the BIOS set to legacy mode for the hard drive access setting. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912276 Title: Ubuntu Server 20.04 installation to drive with BIOS set to legacy mode results in non-booting drive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1912276/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't see how this relates to the installer (ubiquity), which also appears to have been run many days ago ("Installed on 2021-01-09 (9 days ago)") so package changed ** Package changed: ubiquity (Ubuntu) => edubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1912272 Title: edubuntu fails to fully install and messes with any other installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/edubuntu-artwork/+bug/1912272/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1910611] Re: sssd startup fails when apparmor in enforcing mode
** Description changed: + [ Impact ] + + sssd users on Focal, Groovy and Hirsute can experience problems when + setting sssd's apparmor profile to "Enforce" mode. In this scenario, + apparmor will prevent sssd from being able to execute programs under the + /usr/libexec/sssd/* path, which will cause the sssd service to fail to + start. + + Aside from the deny mentioned above, the sssd apparmor profile also + needs to be updated to reflect the fact that sssd will also need to have + read access to files under the /etc/sssd/conf.d/* and /etc/gss/mech.d/* + directories. + + [ Test Case ] + + Using an LXD VM, one can: + + $ lxc launch image:ubuntu/focal sssd-bug1910611-focal --vm + $ lxc shell sssd-bug1910611-focal + # apt update && apt install apparmor-utils sssd -y + ... + # cat > /etc/sssd/sssd.conf << __EOF__ + [sssd] + config_file_version = 2 + domains = example.com + + [domain/example.com] + id_provider = ldap + auth_provider = ldap + ldap_uri = ldap://ldap01.example.com + cache_credentials = True + ldap_search_base = dc=example,dc=com + __EOF__ + # chmod 0600 /etc/sssd/sssd.conf + # aa-enforce sssd + Setting /usr/sbin/sssd to enforce mode. + # systemctl restart sssd.service + Job for sssd.service failed because the control process exited with error code. + See "systemctl status sssd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details. + # dmesg | grep DENIED + ... + [ 2011.510479] audit: type=1400 audit(1611007899.726:370): apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec" profile="/usr/sbin/sssd" name="/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_be" pid=3255 comm="sssd" requested_mask="x" denied_mask="x" fsuid=0 ouid=0 + [ 2011.511822] audit: type=1400 audit(1611007899.726:371): apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec" profile="/usr/sbin/sssd" name="/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_be" pid=3256 comm="sssd" requested_mask="x" denied_mask="x" fsuid=0 ouid=0 + + The instructions above can be replicated to test things on Groovy and + Hirsute. + + [ Regression Potential ] + + Very little regression potential, since we are expanding the apparmor + permissions of sssd, and not reducing them. + + * If the user already has apparmor enabled for sssd, she will most + likely have addressed these issues by herself, which means that this + change will just be a duplicate of what is already on the system. + + * If the user does not have apparmor enabled, then nothing will change. + + [ Original Description ] + sssd fails to start when its apparmor profile is in enforcing mode. The OS is Ubuntu 20.04. apparmor-notify shows various denied entries. Setting the profile to 'complain' mode allows sssd to start. We're seeing this in Azure only at this time. Would like to set the profile to 'enforcing' as we're trying to achieve CIS compliance. The following notifications are sample of those observed. What looks odd (I am no apparmor wizard) is that the denies are coming from the SSSD libraries and not the main binary. Also, no service should be denied read on /etc/hosts (second entry below)? Sample apparmor-notif output here: Profile: /usr/sbin/sssd//null-/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_nss Operation: open Name: /proc/33363/cmdline Denied: r Logfile: /var/log/audit/audit.log (1498 found, most recent from 'Wed Dec 30 20:35:19 2020') Profile: /usr/sbin/sssd//null-/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_be Operation: open Name: /etc/hosts Denied: r Logfile: /var/log/audit/audit.log (294 found, most recent from 'Thu Dec 31 02:55:41 2020') Profile: /usr/sbin/sssd//null-/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_be Operation: mknod Name: /var/lib/sss/pubconf/.krb5info_dummy_r07Rxk Denied: c Logfile: /var/log/audit/audit.log Profile: /usr/sbin/sssd//null-/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_be Operation: open Name: /var/lib/sss/pubconf/.krb5info_dummy_r07Rxk Denied: wrc Logfile: /var/log/audit/audit.log Profile: /usr/sbin/sssd//null-/usr/libexec/sssd/sssd_be Operation: chmod Name: /var/lib/sss/pubconf/.krb5info_dummy_r07Rxk Denied: w Logfile: /var/log/audit/audit.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910611 Title: sssd startup fails when apparmor in enforcing mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/+bug/1910611/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
