[Bug 1861610] Re: 'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL'
Appending "i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" to boot parameters worked for the touchpad issue on the Lenovo V14-IIL. Following are the steps I've followed: 1.) Open the file /etc/default/grub for editing, for example by running sudoedit /etc/default/grub 2.) Add to the line beginning GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT: "i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" so that it reads: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" ** If other parameters are there between the double quotes, it may be OK to leave them. 3.) Save the file and exit 4.) Run this command to update the GRUB configuration: sudo update-grub 5.) Reboot Other relevant threads for this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1881322/comments/5 https://askubuntu.com/questions/1206190/elan-touchpad-not-working-on-lenovo-ideapad-with-ubuntu-16-04 https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Ubuntu/ThinkBook-14-IML-ELAN-TouchPad-Not-Recognized-Ubuntu/m-p/4622518?page=2#5104555 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1861610/comments/66 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1861610/comments/96 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861610 Title: 'Elan touchpad' not detected on 'Lenovo ThinkBook 15 IIL' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1861610/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The system is a Dell Optiplex 745 single-booting to Xubuntu 20.04 up-to-date as of today. I replaced one of 2 monitors, the one rotated to portrait orientation, with a higher resolution monitor. Started the system, logged in as another user and changed the desktop background however, when I then logged out and restarted the system, it behaved normally until it displayed the usual /dev/sda1: clean, x/x files, /x blocks on both monitors. The prompt remained for a few seconds, slowly blinked off and on 6 times, and then remained with no further activity. The system works fine if I boot from a Xubuntu 18.04 DVD (I didn't have a 20.04 DVD, and this is the only machine with a burner). On another machine, I determined that the system was booting, because the machine was visible on the network, and its shared folders were accessible. I could get to a login prompt and log on using Alt+F1 to F6. Alt-F7 returned me to the file system check prompt. I was able to start xorg after logging on with startx, and changing all settings for the new monitor, everything worked normally until logging out, which of course returned me to the command line where I had given the command startx. If I log out requesting a restart, the system reboots, but still stops at the same place every time. That behavior hadn't changed the next day. I can use the machine, but only by selecting a terminal, logging as myself or the other user and giving the startx command. I have been unable to find anything on the Internet that corrects the problem. Since the problem first started, two crashes have occurred and I allowed them to be reported; however, they were light-locker crashes. I reinstalled lightdm and light-locker, but that made no difference. I installed gdm3, which works fine, but switching back to lightdm with: sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 sudo dpkg --configure lightdm resulted in: dpkg: error processing package lightdm (--configure): package lightdm is already installed and configured Errors were encountered while processing: lightdm So I can't really be sure if the problem is with xorg, lightdm or light- locker, but since there are no error messages and everything else works fine, it's clearly a bug, if a strange one. I do not relish the idea of having to reinstall Xubuntu; so for the time being, I'll use gdm3, though I prefer lightdm's ability to properly display backdrops and use the two monitors properly extended (with gdm3, the mouse moves down the left portrait monitor before moving onto the right monitor where gdm3 sees fit to put the logon dialog). The next thing I'll try is autoremoving lightdm rebooting a few times and then reinstalling it... Because of the absence of error messages and information even suggesting why X isn't starting, I have no idea what other information about my system might be useful to you, but if you need something additional, I'll try to provide it. [Bug 1913851] Re: pam_winbind should reject disabled users
Can you double-check that your pam configuration for pam_winbind is configured to use required or requisite rather than sufficient? It's possible that the required or requisite defaults aren't sufficient but may still be possible to configure using the more complicated pam syntax. Search for 'valueN' in /usr/share/doc/libpam-doc/txt/Linux- PAM_SAG.txt.gz for some details. I don't know off-hand if the pam_winbind module supports these finer-grained controls but it's possible it does. [Bug 1913853] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.4.0-202 basic commands hanging
Public bug reported: Hi there, I've updated kernel on my Ubuntu 16.04 from 4.4.0-201-generic to 4.4.0.202-generic today and it broke my system. Basic commands, such as pidof, lsof, ps fax (ps -a works) hang indefinitely and not even root issued kill -KILL will terminate them. Only thing that helps is to kill the shell that started such commands. I had to reboot back to 4.4.0-201, however during shutdown various stop jobs hanged as well and after more than 25 minutes I had to go for hard reboot. My current—NOT BROKEN—kernel has signature (cat /proc/version_signature): Ubuntu 4.4.0-201.233-generic 4.4.247 I am attaching the lspci-vnvn.log, also created with the non-broken kernel. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: xenial ** Attachment added: "lspci-vnvn.log created with the non-broken kernel" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1913853/+attachment/5458209/+files/lspci-vnvn.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1913853 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 kernel 4.4.0-202 basic commands hanging To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1913853/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise
You don't have to unplug them. The minimal workaround, and what I always use, is before the install, unflag the EFI partitions of drives you don't want to target. I have lost about a month of my time with this bug!! I thought I was doing something wrong with UUID or GPT vs MBR or ZFS or ... It creamed my live benchmark system that I had spent considerable time installing and customizing. Just today, I stumbled onto this archaic bug report, which remains unfixed after seven years! [Bug 1913639] Re: linux-crashdump is not capable of mounting zfs root pools
Hi Anders, thanks for your report! It seems the issue could lie in the initramfs-tools package not being able to recognize the need of ZFS if MODULES=dep is used - in the kdump initrd, we restrict the modules included to the needed subset, in order to make it smaller and consume less memory from the crashkernel reserved range. The way to achieve that is set the config file for the kdump initrd to make use of MODULES=dep directive. I'd like to ask some testing from you, so we can verify this theory. Please run the following commands as root user: ls -lh /var/lib/kdump/initrd.img* kdump-config unload rm -f /var/lib/kdump/initrd.img* sed -i 's/MODULES=dep/MODULES=most/g' /etc/kernel/postinst.d/kdump-tools kdump-config load ls -lh /var/lib/kdump/initrd.img* The first command will show you the current kdump initrd images you have, then next commands delete them and recreate one for the current kernel, but using "MODULES=most" to include a bigger set of modules in the kdump initrd. The last command will show the newly created initrd size, please be sure it is bigger than the one you deleted. After that, try a kdump and let's see if it works! [Bug 1908452] Re: MAAS stops working and deployment fails after `Loading ephemeral` step
A reproducer would be nice you say? Well, you can point your MAAS server to this URL for MAAS images: https://images.maas.io/ephemeral-v3/daily/ Then you can simulate whatever-the-heck is going on in our lab environment by adding an iptables rule that will drop packets containing the server cert from the image server: - $ sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -s 91.189.88.136 -m string --string maas.io --algo bm -j DROP - Then initiate an image sync. You'll find that roughly 25% of API connections hang indefinitely: - ubuntu@maas:~$ wget --tries=1 http://localhost:5240/MAAS/rpc -O /dev/null --2021-01-29 20:59:42-- http://localhost:5240/MAAS/rpc Resolving localhost (localhost)... 127.0.0.1 Connecting to localhost (localhost)|127.0.0.1|:5240... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... - What's that? Would be nice if it were a standalone reproducer? Well, you can do the same thing with the same iptables rule and a simple script that makes the same simplestreams API call as regiond does: - $ cat repro.py #!/usr/bin/env python3 from simplestreams.contentsource import RequestsUrlReader url = "https://images.maas.io/ephemeral-v3/stable/streams/v1/index.sjson"; r = RequestsUrlReader(url) - This will hang seemingly forever. strace can be used to demonstrate it is also hung in a read call, as I showed regiond was in Comment #11: - $ sudo strace -p 562333 strace: Process 562333 attached read(20, ^Cstrace: Process 562333 detached - And if you ^c it, it will show same backtrace I extracted from regiond in comment #17: - $ ./repro.py ^CTraceback (most recent call last): File "./repro.py", line 6, in r = RequestsUrlReader(url) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/simplestreams/contentsource.py", line 381, in __init__ self.req = requests.get(url, stream=True, auth=auth, headers=headers) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/requests/api.py", line 75, in get return request('get', url, params=params, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/requests/api.py", line 60, in request return session.request(method=method, url=url, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/requests/sessions.py", line 533, in request resp = self.send(prep, **send_kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/requests/sessions.py", line 646, in send r = adapter.send(request, **kwargs) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/requests/adapters.py", line 439, in send resp = conn.urlopen( File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 665, in urlopen httplib_response = self._make_request( File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 376, in _make_request self._validate_conn(conn) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/urllib3/connectionpool.py", line 996, in _validate_conn conn.connect() File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/urllib3/connection.py", line 366, in connect self.sock = ssl_wrap_socket( File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/urllib3/util/ssl_.py", line 370, in ssl_wrap_socket return context.wrap_socket(sock, server_hostname=server_hostname) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/urllib3/contrib/pyopenssl.py", line 485, in wrap_socket cnx.do_handshake() File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/OpenSSL/SSL.py", line 1914, in do_handshake result = _lib.SSL_do_handshake(self._ssl) KeyboardInterrupt - -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908452 Title: MAAS stops working and deployment fails after `Loading ephemeral` step To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1908452/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
