[Bug 1905010] Re: [snap] chromium forgets custom root certificates after each update

2021-02-04 Thread Timo Denissen
We have another case where Chromium "forgets" our internal root CA but
tells me it is already installed.

I can pinpoint this a bit further: we did an upgrade fom 18.04 to 20.04.

Uninstalling and re-installing chromium with snap seems to solve the
problem in most cases.

[Bug 1914573] Re: [DisplayLink] Desktop crashes and return to login screen

2021-02-04 Thread paquin pierre
there's no more uploaded file for xorg crash... I'll do what you ask on
next crash and reboot.

I found the origin of the gnome-shell entries in journalctl, they came
from chrome. I try to not use it today and we'll see if I have no more
gnome crash. I have no idea if it's related but it's not, I'll have the
crash even if I don't use chrome.

[Bug 1914543] Re: Missing device id for Intel TGL-H ISH [8086:43fc] in intel-ish-hid driver

2021-02-04 Thread You-Sheng Yang
SRU: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-

+
+ Device sensors attached to Intel Integrated Sensor Hub (ISH) on TGL-H

[Bug 1914573] Re: Gnome desktop crash and return to login screen

2021-02-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It sounds like a few different DisplayLink problems.

It appears the display-related crashes are all in Xorg, Xwayland and
DisplayLinkManager. The last one doesn't seem to be part of Ubuntu so
I'll ignore that here. So the remaining two both come from the 'xorg-
server' source package.

Unfortunately I can't tell exactly how Xorg is crashing. Next time it
happens, please reboot and then run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

Please also share the contents of the '.uploaded' files. You don't need
to share your whoopsie-id (also I can see it on those 'oops' pages).

** Summary changed:

- Gnome desktop crash and return to login screen
+ [DisplayLink] Desktop crashes and return to login screen

** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu)

** Also affects: evdi (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1914731] Re: [Errno 30] Read-only file system 'usr/bin' -> 'target/bin'

2021-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This installation looks like it was caused by a corrupted file system,
or device problems (sda6). I notice in the logs

Feb 5 02:46:35 ubuntu ubiquity: Error reading device /dev/sda6 at 0 length
4096.
Feb 5 02:46:35 ubuntu kernel: [27830.148187] EXT4-fs error (device sda10):

filesystem read-only
Feb 5 02:46:35 ubuntu ubiquity: mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/target/media’
Feb 5 02:46:35 ubuntu ubiquity: : Read-only file system

I've marked this bug as incomplete (due hardware issues), if you believe
I'm in error please leave a comment as to why, and you can return the
status to "New".

I suggest you validate the health of your hardware (esp. disk by
checking it's SMART status using `smartctl`, `gnome-disks` or whichever
tool you prefer), and possibly the integrity of your partition table
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Smartmontools). If you're unfamiliar
with these, I suggest seeking support, options available can be seen at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/finding-help/709

[Bug 1914670] Re: No HDMI detection

2021-02-04 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
Hello,

Can you try the following debug command when you plug the HDMI monitor?

1. check if udev event emit from kernel
$ udevadm monitor -s drm
2. check if the connector change status
$ cat /sys/class/drm/card0-*/status
3. try to dump the display info
# cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_display_info
4. If the driver thinks no display attached
upload /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_vbt to this bug, I can check if vbios is
revised, since the BIOS version is different from what we certified.

The driver won't change state, if it can't retrieve EDID properly.
Would like to confirm if kernel did aware a output is attached.

Thanks,

[Bug 1914521] Re: lubuntu focal.2 "sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda"

2021-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
Of note..

Last change to calamares is 27-Feb-2020 kc2bez;

Last release I would have used box to test with SIGNIFICANTLY is 20.04.1
(https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2020/08/06/ubuntu-20-04-1-lts-released/)

thus NO CHANGES WERE MADE to code, yet I had not experienced this before
with this COMMON install routine (full disk followed by install
alongside).

I've had the opinion that 1864787 would occur on multiple spins of ISO,
then stop occurring awhile, before it re-occurred.. (ie. no related
code changes, just re-spin of ISO on new daily). When issue occurred
(ie. specific daily ISO), it was easy to re-create, on other ISOs
(different daily) I couldn't get issue to occur.

The two dailies this occurred on I believe had no meaningful change,
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/reports/bugs/1914521 which I believe
was (#ubuntu-flavors)

" We have to fix a rather obscure, but serious (for OEM scenarios)
ubuntu-drivers-common bug
Meaning we'll have to eh, respin the desktop isos"

but even for dailies before then (when issue did not occur), I can't see
how the lower Ubuntu infrastructure changes could cause it to work
flawlessly, then not...

My point is, I'm not convinced this is worth effort, at least with older
focal code (3.2.20-0ubuntu1)

If it occurs with hirsute.. then yep as it's later code (two upstream
releases later currently).

[Bug 1914670] Re: No HDMI detection

2021-02-04 Thread Ian C
The certification was tested on an older BIOS version (Dell 1.0.0),
whereas I bought the machine and BIOS 1.1.3 was installed, and now I
have the latest 1.1.7. For both, HDMI still not showing up.

[Bug 1914521] Re: lubuntu focal.2 "sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda"

2021-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
I have not had this issue in hirsute (or ever before using these steps).

I expect to do a number of installs in coming ~week looking for this
issue (1914521) & even 1864787 using the hirsute release.

Replicating this setup is easy (standard QA-test install, then a second
"install alongside") taking only time.. This system is old and has
spinning-rust drive, thus time.

I've not had this issue before; only 1864787 which I assumed related to
a complex partition scheme..

Installs using this exact procedure (and thus partition layout) are done maybe
100 times per cycle as easy to do and most efficient way to test for
- full disk install (any non-encrypted testcase)
- install alongside
at least that's how I do those two testcases...

so all of them are returning 'command not found'. This is my firt time

[Bug 1875548] Re: Its not easy to determine how to skip the filesystem check

2021-02-04 Thread Jay Michael
Ubuntu 20.04.2 behaves the same way.

"quiet" kernel parameter seems to enable skipping the disk check: With
"quiet" on the kernel command line, one of the few lines to appear on
the screen is "disk check skipped", and the boot completes noticeably
faster. (35s instead of 55s, booting from an ISO file on a hard disk)

[Bug 1914521] Re: lubuntu focal.2 "sfdisk --force --append /dev/sda"

2021-02-04 Thread Chris Guiver
The steps required to re-produce are

1: full disk install Lubuntu/Xubuntu (occurred after each, 20.04.2)
2: reboot & do another install using "Install alongside"

(no changes made to disk allocation, just use defaults; details entered
shouldn't matter but I use "guiverc", "Chris Guiver" & password is
usually "please" for QA-test installs.. machine name used varied but
usually "d755-8" for box mentioned in this report).

Two outcomes

- 98% of time successful install
- at most 2% time this failure

I'm still 99.9% this is a duplicate.. but it doesn't always occur, and
when it does, it's the exact same thing as had no issues other times.

This setup is far simpler to create than
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1864787 which had a
more complex partition layout. To me the outcome looked the same though.

** Description changed:

  Lubuntu 20.04.2 RC/daily QA-test install on
  - dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400
pro/xt)

Testcase: Install Alongside (prior install was a Xubuntu focal.2 I
  believe)

- More details will be filled in shortly, this was unexpected though, as
- I've only had the 1864787 issue on a different box (an older d755)
- before.
+ This was unexpected, as I've only had the 1864787 issue on a different
+ box (an older d755) before, which had a more complex partition layout.

This is 99.9% likely to be marked duplicate of

[Bug 1914670] Re: No HDMI detection

2021-02-04 Thread Ian C
Hi thanks for replying back!

To answer your questions:

1. 'apport-collect 1914670' --> command not found

2. If I boot up into windows, the HDMI port, but not if boot up with
Linux.

3. I've tried other HDMI cables and other external monitors. Nothing
works.

4. BIOS does not show up on external HDMI monitor if plugged in before
booting up machine.

5. Lowering resolution or changing it any other resolution does not
display HDMI.

[Bug 1909950] Re: TCP connections never close

2021-02-04 Thread Adam Heathcote
Hi Matthew

I can confirm that this package did indeed fix the issue. The current
packaged version still presented the problem so it looks like you patch
fixed it.

I would be interested to know why compiling from upstream doesn't
present the issue however.

Thanks

[Bug 1914670] Re: No HDMI detection

2021-02-04 Thread Alex Tu
Hi Ian,

We sometime get compatibility issue form different external device and
even the HDMI cord(e.g. LP: #1890772).

To check if it's a external device issue, could you please help to do some test:
1. Will BIOS shows on external HDMI monitor if you plugged HDMI before booting
up your machine?
2. If lower resolution make you HDMI monitor light up?
   - I saw you make it light up after manually xrander command, how if you
change the resolution up and down? (I'm wondering if it related to LP: #1890772)

[Bug 1914710] [NEW] execsnoop-bpfcc field pcomm reports comm, instead

2021-02-04 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Hello, the execsnoop-bpfcc field PCOMM is supposed to report the parent
process's COMM field, but I haven't seen it do that on Ubuntu systems.
Here's some outputs of running 'sleep 10' in a shell with a very fancy

You can see the example output has the parent comm in the PCOMM field:
https://github.com/iovisor/bcc/blob/master/tools/execsnoop_example.txt

I didn't spot any blame output that looked related, didn't spot any
issues that looked related, but I did see a comment from 2017 with the
same incorrect output:

[Bug 1914695] [NEW] mysqldump --all-databases not dumping with 5.7.33

2021-02-04 Thread Ian Wienand
Public bug reported:

Since the 5.7.33 upgrade, our Xenial host, talking to an old server that
reports itself as 5.1.73-1+deb6u1 is no long dumping all databases with
"--all-databases". It connects, exits with 0 and puts out some info,
but the actual databases are not dumped at all.

I ran strace on it and I can see mysqldump running the query and getting
a response, then it does a sync and proceeds to exit.

I note that [2] has a note

---
When invoked with the --all-databases option, mysqldump now dumps the mysql
database first, so that when the dump file is reloaded, any accounts named in
the DEFINER clause of other objects will already have been created. (Bug
#32141046)
---

possibly this is related.

This is quite unfortunate because you think your backup is working, but
it's silently failing.

Specifying the individual database to mysqldump does work, it only
appears to be the --all-databases option that is not working.

** Affects: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

Since the 5.7.33 upgrade, our Xenial host, talking to an old server that
reports itself as 5.1.73-1+deb6u1 is no long dumping all databases with
"--all-databases". It connects, exits with 0 and puts out some info,
but the actual databases are not dumped at all.

I ran strace on it and I can see mysqldump running the query and getting
- a response, then it does a sync or something and seems to die.
+ a response, then it does a sync and proceeds to exit.

[Bug 1914573] Re: Gnome desktop crash and return to login screen

2021-02-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

Security team ACK for promoting strictly the debugedit + librpmio9
binary packages from the rpm source package to main. We'll be
considering only issues that affect the way we're using debugedit in our
tooling when we're triaging hypothetical future issues.

Thanks

[Bug 1914145] Re: Please merge liburing 0.7-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2021-02-04 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
That seemed to be correct; update_excuses is now updated,
and autopkgtests for mpd/samba/qemu are now running.

There were 3 regressions reported, each on a single arch,
which seemed to be unrelated to liburing; so just sent a
rerun request for them.

Re: [Bug 1912371] Re: [MIR] flashrom

2021-02-04 Thread Carl-Daniel Hailfinger
flashrom does have built-in self tests and also supports external tests,
but apparently that is not well-known.

If your build VM supports flash chip host controller emulation and flash
chip emulation, you can run flashrom with root privileges against the
emulated hardware.

If you want to run only unprivileged code, the man page flashrom.8 has
you covered with multiple pages of explanations and option descriptions
and even working examples:

dummy programmer
The dummy programmer operates on a buffer in memory only.
It provides a safe and fast way to test various aspects of flashrom and
is mainly used in development and while debugging.  It is able to
emulate some chips to a certain degree (basic identify/read/erase/write
operations work).
[...]

That feature is enabled by default if flashrom is built with the classic
Makefile. AFAIK the Meson build doesn't have feature parity yet, so that
feature might be missing (no promises).

Regards,
Carl-Daniel

[Bug 1914583] Re: unresponsive gnome de on 20.10

2021-02-04 Thread Avital Ostromich
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
