Done for 21.04, let us try to fix B/F/G as well.
After all there might be more than just the cockpit images that run into this

[Bug 1914031] Re: Blank screen issue with epiphany-browser package

2021-02-10 Thread Dixit Vyas
Hi @Sebastien Bache,

Thanks for your reply. As per your suggestion, we tried to execute the below
command in a terminal,
apport-collect 1914031

It redirects us to the ubuntu forum login page, and if logged in, it
throws the pop-up that the page is private and we don't have the access
to it.

Could you please help us with this?

Weird: The debug symbols for iris_dri.so don't seem to have worked on
this bug. They didn't work in comments #4 and #5 above and they didn't
work in duplicate bug reports even when the debug symbols were
definitely installed before the crash was reproduced.

[Bug 1914670] Re: No HDMI detection

2021-02-10 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
Hello,

Would you please try this kernel to see if it works for you?
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-tip/current/

Based on your experiment, it works when there is a type-C dongle in
between, which might be the ddc bus and ddi port mapping issue. I'd like
check if Intel development tree contains a correct mapping for you.

Sorry that I am now on CNY vacation, I'll see if I can find the same
model as yours, then get back to you ASAP.

Thanks,

Hi,

Ok, if there's nothing here about xorg crash, how may I provide you more
information about that :
ppaquin@PORTABLE-PPAQUIN:/var/crash$ ls -alrt
.
-rw-r- 1 username whoopsie 17322105 févr. 10 14:15
_usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.1000.crash

It seems I have some informations on my system about crash. but the following
command doesn't work. I have a message with some "internal error" :
sudo ubuntu-bug _usr_lib_xorg_Xorg.1000.crash

Thanks,

[Bug 1915365] Re: Linux Mint Cinamon installation "tz" data is corrupt

2021-02-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for the apport-collect.

It's possible your package is not the Ubuntu package, but a modified
Mint package, OR you ran `apport-collect` on a system that didn't have
it installed (ie. Ubuntu installation media not present or detected)..
The string `ubiquity-20.04.15+linuxmint13` isn't a valid package version
for Ubuntu, not matching any results of a command line search which show
14 expected strings for supported releases 2.10.16 -> 21.04.9)

Either way, this is likely to not get much attention in Ubuntu, given
the package is expected to be used only for one more release (hirsute,
plus some older re-spins) as work progresses on its replacement;

[Bug 1915322] Re: System freezes on resume from sleep

2021-02-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It appears there's a hardware or kernel problem when resuming
from sleep:

Feb 10 23:13:49 Garitchnekig systemd-journald[265]: Missed 850 kernel messages
Feb 10 23:13:49 Garitchnekig kernel: pcieport :00:1c.0: AER: Multiple

So it's not a Xorg or Gnome Shell bug. I will assign it to the kernel
and also to the Nvidia driver, which runs in the kernel.

2021-02-10 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1915365

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Please note: `ubuntu-bug`, `apport` & bug reporting tools are provided
with Ubuntu by default, many require manual addition for some releases
of downstream OSes based on Ubuntu (eg. Linux Mint). You should check
with your distribution first.

[Bug 1915365] [NEW] Linux Mint Cinamon installation "tz" data is corrupt

2021-02-10 Thread ineuw
Public bug reported:

Cinnamon 4.8.6
Mint 20 and 20.1
Motherboard integrated Intel graphics, generic X display driver
64 bit

**Issue**

In the OS installation process, the "tz" time zone list of places is
corrupt, outdated, and contains non-Canonical place names which were
deprecated long ago. An example is the deprecated listing for
"America/Montreal". This problem affects the installed software and
messes up the time zone and the time setting. Also, the "tz" list is not
searchable by typing the first character, a poor design for a list that
has nearly over 300 entries.

** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1915362] Re: unoconv aborts if output file is in /tmp and named "out.xlsx"

2021-02-10 Thread jimav
** Description changed:

This is hard to believe, so I'm reluctant to submit this. But here it
  is:

- If the effective output file path is "/tmp/out.xlsx" then unoconv aborts
- with an exception, but no abort occurs if a different file name or
- different directory is used (and yes, I checked that the file did not
- already exist). Something about the specific file name "out.xlsx" when
- stored in /tmp provokes this exception:
+ If the effective output file path is a certain filename, then unoconv
+ aborts with an exception, but no abort occurs if a different file name
+ or directory is used (and yes, I checked that the file did not already

+ any other output filename; later, output to "xout.xlsx" started aborting
+ but using "out.xlsx" no longer aborted.
+
+ So there is some kind of state which remembers past file names (or
+ something) and causes havoc.
+

Thanks.

The log in comment #3 shows the system did not return from sleep. Please
try again, resuming from sleep (even if it doesn't respond), wait about
30 seconds, reboot and then run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

[Bug 1912844] Re: Bond with OVS bridging RuntimeError: duplicate mac found!

2021-02-10 Thread Frode Nordahl
The default `datapath_type` is 'system', so if it is not explicitly
specified for a bridge it will not be visible in `ovs-vsctl show`
output, but 'system' will still be the `datapath_type` used.

If you configure a system where all bridges have `datapath_type`
'netdev' /sys/class/net/ovs-system will not be there, but /sys/class/net
/ovs-netdev will.

You can query Open vSwitch at runtime for which datapath types it
supports with `ovs-vsctl get open_vswitch . datapath_types` which would
produce '[netdev, system]' as output.

I guess we cannot foresee how this will be plumbed for all future Open
vSwitch releases and possible new datapath types, but either `ovs-
system` or `ovs-netdev` will always be there in current versions and use
cases.

If we want to be opportunistic I guess iterating over the datapath_types
list and check for /sys/class/net/ovs-$datapath_type could be a generic
approach that may also work for the next datapath_type we currently do
not know about.

[Bug 1896578] Re: raid10: Block discard is very slow, causing severe delays for mkfs and fstrim operations

2021-02-10 Thread Matthew Ruffell
** Description changed:

  BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1896578

  [Impact]

Block discard is very slow on Raid10, which causes common use cases
which invoke block discard, such as mkfs and fstrim operations, to take
  a very long time.

For example, on a i3.8xlarge instance on AWS, which has 4x 1.9TB NVMe
devices which support block discard, a mkfs.xfs operation on Raid 10
takes between 8 to 11 minutes, where the same mkfs.xfs operation on Raid
  0, takes 4 seconds.

The bigger the devices, the longer it takes.

The cause is that Raid10 currently uses a 512k chunk size, and uses this
for the discard_max_bytes value. If we need to discard 1.9TB, the kernel
splits the request into millions of 512k bio requests, even if the
  underlying device supports larger requests.

For example, the NVMe devices on i3.8xlarge support 2.2TB of discard at
  once:

  $ cat /sys/block/nvme0n1/queue/discard_max_bytes
  2199023255040
  $ cat /sys/block/nvme0n1/queue/discard_max_hw_bytes
  2199023255040

Where the Raid10 md device only supports 512k:

  $ cat /sys/block/md0/queue/discard_max_bytes
  524288
  $ cat /sys/block/md0/queue/discard_max_hw_bytes
  524288

If we perform a mkfs.xfs operation on the /dev/md array, it takes over
11 minutes and if we examine the stack, it is stuck in
  blkdev_issue_discard()

  $ sudo cat /proc/1626/stack

All the commits mentioned follow a similar strategy which was
implemented in Raid0 in the below commit, which was merged in 4.12-rc2,
which fixed block discard performance issues in Raid0:

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

[Bug 1915322] Re: Xorg freeze

2021-02-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Next time the freeze happens, please try
Ctrl+Alt+F1 or F2 to find the login screen. If that doesn't work then
please reboot and then run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

Please also try these instructions in case the freeze is due to
something crashing:

[Bug 1915270] Re: Gnome Shell fails to list some apps with .desktop files

2021-02-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. I certainly can't find any other reports of
this problem. The first thing to check is whether any of these
extensions are causing side effects which might explain the bug:

'sound-output-device-choo...@kgshank.net', 'refresh-w...@kgshank.net',
'wifisignalstren...@tomin.site', 'cast-to...@rafostar.github.com',
'auto-move-wind...@gnome-shell-extensions.gcampax.github.com',

extensions.gcampax.github.com', 'hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca',
'arcm...@arcmenu.com', 'vbox-app...@gs.eros2.info'

So please uninstall all of those, restart and retest. If the bug still
occurs after that then please report it to the developers at:

If you already have libgl1-mesa-dri-
dbgsym_20.2.6-0ubuntu0.20.04.1_amd64.ddeb installed then it seems the
problem right now is that Xorg doesn't know how to load debug symbols.

https://errors.ubuntu.com/ is also not showing me any Xorg crashes from
your system since January. So I think we need to do one of two things:

* Attach a debugger to the Xorg process before it crashes; or

* Configure Xorg to dump core properly and not try to catch its own
crashes.

[Bug 1915358] [NEW] sound hdmi 5.1 subwoofer always disabled

2021-02-10 Thread Steven A. Molzen
Public bug reported:

In System Sound Settings, I chose HDMI 5.1 audio, but there is no sound
from my subwoofer in any audio application.

The System Sound Settings for HDMI 5.1 always shows a disabled subwoofer
slider. When I open the test window and hit the subwoofer icon button,
no sound is produced.

But if I open Pulse Audio Volume Control -> Output Devices -> (unlock icon),
all show mid-volume on the slider except for subwoffer. But the subwoofer
slider is enabled. So I slide it to mid-volume, and go back to System Sound
Settings -> test window and hit the subwoofer icon button, I hear my subwoofer
is working fine.

I also then hear the subwoofer in all audio applications.

If I were to touch the System Sound Slider for the subwoofer, it
immediately stops working again.

I can fix it again in Pulse Audio Volumne Control again.

[Bug 1846334] Re: cupsd assert failure: free(): invalid pointer

2021-02-10 Thread Nicolas Joyard
I confirm the hirsute version fixes the issue.

I created https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1915181/
recently without having seen this bug report, and I'm pretty confident
it's the same issue.

I reinstalled groovy on a VM, confirmed the bug occurred (it did),
rebuilt 2.3.3op1 from hirsute and installed it. The problem no longer
occurs after that.

[Bug 1913852] Re: zLib link failures on Xenial

2021-02-10 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Oh I have dealt with this before: the problem is that debhelper (in
xenial) thinks that "zlib.a" is a static library (it's trying to find
files with names of the form "libXXX.a" but uses a bad regex) and feeds
it to strip as part of the package build, which mangles the file.

[Bug 1915354] [NEW] [FFe] Include ubuntu-advantage-tools 27.0

2021-02-10 Thread Chad Smith
Public bug reported:

[Description]
Ubuntu-advantage-tools delivers a python command line client which enables
Ubuntu Advantage support offerings. Version 26.0 will already have been
uploaded to Hirsute prior to feature freeze. Version 27.0 will introduce the
ability a new `ua fix ` subcommand which will introspect the
running system for a specific CVE or USN issue, report whether the system is
affected and apply recommended packaging changes to resolve the CVE or USN.

[Rationale]
ubuntu-advantage-tools v.27 is currently under development against a Ubuntu
Security API service. Expectation is that 27.0 development, CI and verification
will complete before release, but it will miss the Feature Freeze deadline of
February 25th.

This feature will also be planned for SRU into Xenial once it has landed
in Hirsute.

If we block the update to ubuntu-advantage-tools version 27, Ubuntu
consumers will not still have to manually discoverwhich packages are
affected by CVEs or USNs and remedy affected systems until we can SRU
into Hirsute.

[Timeline]
ubuntu-advantage-tools already has a very basic `ua fix` command which reports
whether a given CVE affects the current machine. Expectation is that we can
have a fully functional `ua fix` command which will apply necessary packaging
changes by end of February.

[Risks]
Low-risk for Hirsute as ubuntu-advantage-tools `ua fix` command is a
commandline wizard intended primarly for manual inspection or resolution of
individual CVEs on a limited number of systems. The 'fix' subcommand is not a
utility we expect to be used frequently during the life of an Ubuntu system, or
during boot process. So, errors will be limited to not providing the right
information about a CVE/USN or not installing the recommended debs properly to
remedy the provided CVE.

** Affects: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1915092] Re: lib-gtk-3 / lib-gtk-3-dev NOT compatible

2021-02-10 Thread Robert Dinse
I just re-installed everything and it pulled what was missing but at this point
it's clearly not your issue so feel free to close this ticket. It would be
nice if there were a dev file to match
the most recent libs but I realize if you choose proposed, bugs come with that.

[Bug 1913852] Re: zLib link failures on Xenial

2021-02-10 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Well here's a funny thing:

root@xenial:~/# go tool pack tv
/usr/lib/go-1.13/pkg/linux_amd64/compress/zlib.a
-rw-r--r-- 0/0 5145 Jan 1 00:00 1970 __.PKGDEF/
-rw-r--r-- 0/0 46655 Jan 1 00:00 1970 _go_.o/

why are there / on the end of the archive names? No idea, but it's
probably why nothing is happy.

2021-02-10 Thread Matthieu Clemenceau
Public bug reported:

Please sync pyxdg 0.27-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Fix compatibility issue with python 3.8.4 (Closes: #964609, #968399)

This was causing a FTBFS at the time. The initial solution was cherry picked
from an upstream github PR and has since been released.
Debian BTS bug is referenced in both ubuntu and debian ChangeLog

Changelog entries since current hirsute version 0.26-3ubuntu1:

[Bug 1902025] Re: hwe kernel not scoped under "Ubuntu Base"

Attached is an SRU for groovy. It groups all kernel packages under

[Bug 1906720] Re: Fix the disable_ssl_certificate_validation option

2021-02-10 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Heather and I discussed the autopkgtests failures today.

She's taking a look at fixing python-oslo.vmware, which
seems to be a missing Build-Depends: on python module(s)
nowadays, because the last time it passed was 2019-03.
It was reproducible with autopkgtests-virt-lxd locally.

For apport, it seems an interesting one, as it fails on
other archs except i386 for a long time, including amd64
but it has recently passed on amd64; thus reported as a
regression; but previous errors on other archs sometimes
include the failing test. And it's been ~2 months since
it last passed, so maybe things changed.

Thus I'm rerunning it against python-httplib2 in -updates,
to hopefully confirm the failure is not a regression from
this upload.

[Bug 1909062] Re: qede: Kubernetes Internal DNS Failure due to QL41xxx NIC not supporting IPIP tx csum offload

2021-02-10 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Performing verification for Focal.

The affected user enabled -proposed and installed 5.4.0-66-generic to
the system with a QLogic FastLinQ QL41000 Series 10/25/40/50GbE
Controller.

They then set all interfaces down, and brought up the QLogic NIC only.

#‌ uname -rv
5.4.0-66-generic #‌74~18.04.2-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 5 11:17:31 UTC 2021

#‌ nslookup internal.kubernetes.domain.example 10.1.0.10
Server: 10.1.0.10
Address: 10.1.0.10#‌53
Name: internal.kubernetes.domain.example
Address: 10.48.24.11

#‌ ethtool -k eno1 | grep tx-checksumming
tx-checksumming: on
#‌ ethtool -k enp94s0f0 | grep tx-checksumming
tx-checksumming: on

DNS lookup to an internal kubernetes domain with IPIP type DNS lookups
work as intended, with tx checksumming enabled.

The kernel in -proposed fixes the issue, marking as verified.

** Description changed:

I recently started using ubuntu 20.04, I connected it to my 2.4ghz Wi-Fi, at
first the wifi worked fine, but suddenly the wifi stopped connecting, and after
a few seconds it said "unable to activate network". I checked the "additional
drivers tab" and it showed my wifi adapter, but it said "this device is using
an alternate driver".
right now I'm using my 5ghz Wi-Fi network, but sometimes it happens that it
stops working, usually after suspend.

UPDATE #1: Apparently it's working now, I suppose it's from an update.
- Anyways I guess it's
+ Anyways I guess it's fixed.

[Bug 1450783] Re: grub-install with --bootloader-id option creates unusable boot configuration with secure boot

2021-02-10 Thread Eugene Seppel
I need to have two Ubuntu installations on my PC, and spent several hours in
vain because of this bug reported 5 years ago -- needed to boot 10 times from
liveusb to figure out what is wrong.
Please prioritize it!

2021-02-10 Thread Zach Boyd
Thanks! Just tried removing them with apt purge. Some could not be
found. do-release upgrade is still giving (to me) similar output as
before.
