[Bug 1917974] Re: Xorg freeze when using nouveau
Thanks for the bug report. Your kernel log appears to be flooded with errors about PCI device 8086:2f03 which is the "PCI Express Root Port 1". That doesn't really tell us what the problem is, except that it's either a hardware or kernel problem. I'm guessing it might be related to the nouveau kernel driver. Please reboot into the grub menu (tap Esc before Ubuntu starts), and try booting an older kernel if you have one. If you don't have one then please try some older and newer kernels like: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.4.103/ https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.11.4/ ** Summary changed: - Xorg freeze + Xorg freeze when using nouveau ** Tags added: nouveau ** Package changed: xorg-server (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1917974 Title: Xorg freeze when using nouveau To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1917974/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1918094] Re: Ubuntu is not being installed on my VM. Says media file error or hard disk error
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download, corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages like these :- Mar 8 06:42:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 235.885763] SQUASHFS error: zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt Mar 8 06:42:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 235.885767] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x22a25f9c Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a good download & write. Possibly useful : https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to- verify-ubuntu#0 and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck (where CD refers to your install media, be it CD, DVD, HDD, SSD, thumb-drive etc) ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1918094 Title: Ubuntu is not being installed on my VM. [Bug 1916715] Re: fails on install due to systemd-service/sysv-service mismatch and lack of mkdir
Thanks Adam for your input, this is absolutely worth to consider where we apply the change. But you mentioned Bionic where we only have old style init in the form of /etc/init.d/rtslib-fb-targetctl and IIRC that wasn't affected by the same issue. @Utkarsh is this still on your list of things to look at (at least for groovy)? If you do so could you double check if bionic (or Focal) needs a helping hand as well? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1916715 Title: fails on install due to systemd-service/sysv-service mismatch and lack of mkdir To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-rtslib-fb/+bug/1916715/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. [Bug 1917414] Re: Ceph-osd fails to start with "error while loading shared libraries: cannot make segment writable for relocation: Permission denied"
I was able to get past this issue. In my case, the ceph-mon was invoked by systemctl service file. So, I had to change the below property under the "[Service]" node of file: /lib/systemd/system/ceph-mon@.service - MemoryDenyWriteExecute=true + MemoryDenyWriteExecute=false As per the system manpage[0]: MemoryDenyWriteExecute= Takes a boolean argument. If set, attempts to create memory mappings that are writable and executable at the same time, or to change existing memory mappings to become executable, or mapping shared memory segments as executable are prohibited. Specifically, a system call filter is added that rejects mmap(2) system calls with both PROT_EXEC and PROT_WRITE set, mprotect(2) or pkey_mprotect(2) system calls with PROT_EXEC set and shmat(2) system calls with SHM_EXEC set. Note that this option is incompatible with programs and libraries that generate program code dynamically at runtime, including JIT execution engines, executable stacks, and code "trampoline" feature of various C compilers. This particular property was preventing the ceph-mon executable to run due to the above prohibitions. After making the above change, I had to run $ systemctl daemon-reload And then restarting the service worked for me! [Bug 1918086] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 reboot failed and shows "you need to load the kernel first"
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1918086/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
