[Bug 1929370] [NEW] Backport support for the -lln command-line option to unsquashfs for 18.04

[Bug 1922353] Re: Overview sometimes fails to appear or disappear in 21.04
Yes. I downloaded and applied the packages, noting that it was downgrading the version. I logged out. Logged in. Hit the activity key, stuck. Alt-F2 to execute "r" to recover. Logged Out. Logged in again this time under Wayland. Hit activity key, stuck. Alt-F2 to execute "reboot". Then used apt update && apt upgrade to restore the 2 packages to original version. GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new enhancement request ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1853753 Title: The toolbar can not be edited To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/1853753/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1928744] Re: Disk IO very slow on kernel 4.15.0-142-generic
Hi, In the last 3 days, I have been testing the other kernels. The steps which I took: 1. Boot to kernel-4.15.0-136. 2. Install kernel X, where X = 136,137,139,140: sudo apt-get install linux-image-4.15.0-X-generic linux-headers-4.15.0-X-generic linux-modules-4.15.0-X-generic linux-modules-extra-4.15.0-X-generic 3. Boot to kernel X. 4. Manually run: sudo depmod 5. Reboot. 4. Run the server's normal workload and see how it was performing. I haven't seen disk performance issues with those kernels. But there is one difference, which I don't know how to explain. Before I raised this bug, we had the same disk performance issues on kernel-4.15.0-140. I collected the list of kernel modules running on that kernel at that time: Module Size Used by joydev 24576 0 input_leds 16384 0 hid_generic16384 0 usbhid 49152 0 hid 122880 2 usbhid,hid_generic ip6_tables 28672 0 iptable_filter 16384 0 ip_tables 28672 1 iptable_filter x_tables 40960 3 iptable_filter,ip6_tables,ip_tables tcp_diag 16384 0 udp_diag 16384 0 inet_diag 24576 2 tcp_diag,udp_diag cpuid 16384 0 btrfs1155072 0 zstd_compress 163840 1 btrfs xor24576 1 btrfs raid6_pq 114688 1 btrfs ufs77824 0 qnx4 16384 0 minix 32768 0 ntfs 102400 0 msdos 20480 0 jfs 188416 0 xfs 1204224 0 libcrc32c 16384 1 xfs intel_rapl 20480 0 sb_edac24576 0 x86_pkg_temp_thermal16384 0 intel_powerclamp 16384 0 coretemp 16384 0 kvm_intel 217088 0 kvm 614400 1 kvm_intel ipmi_ssif 32768 0 irqbypass 16384 1 kvm crct10dif_pclmul 16384 0 crc32_pclmul 16384 0 ghash_clmulni_intel16384 0 pcbc 16384 0 aesni_intel 188416 0 aes_x86_64 20480 1 aesni_intel cdc_ether 16384 0 usbnet 45056 1 cdc_ether mii16384 1 usbnet crypto_simd16384 1 aesni_intel glue_helper16384 1 aesni_intel cryptd 24576 3 crypto_simd,ghash_clmulni_intel,aesni_intel intel_cstate 20480 0 intel_rapl_perf16384 0 ipmi_si57344 0 ipmi_devintf 20480 0 ipmi_msghandler53248 3 ipmi_devintf,ipmi_si,ipmi_ssif shpchp 36864 0 mei_me 40960 0 mei94208 1 mei_me lpc_ich24576 0 acpi_power_meter 20480 0 acpi_pad 180224 0 mac_hid16384 0 bonding 163840 0 lp 20480 0 parport49152 1 lp autofs440960 2 mgag20045056 1 i2c_algo_bit 16384 1 mgag200 ttm 106496 1 mgag200 drm_kms_helper172032 1 mgag200 syscopyarea16384 1 drm_kms_helper sysfillrect16384 1 drm_kms_helper tg3 167936 0 sysimgblt 16384 1 drm_kms_helper fb_sys_fops16384 1 drm_kms_helper ptp20480 1 tg3 drm 401408 4 drm_kms_helper,mgag200,ttm pps_core 20480 1 ptp megaraid_sas 143360 12 mxm_wmi16384 0 wmi24576 1 mxm_wmi Now, after the testing we are running on kernel-4.15.0-140 (again) and this time I don't see the issue. [Bug 1625200] Re: Permit to define bootloader_id in grub configuration
When you run grub-install it creates /boot/grub/x86_64-efi/grubx64.efi that references /boot/grub/grub.cfg The problem then is that instead of copying this one to /EFI/$GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR/grubx64.efi, it copies /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/monolithic/grubx64.efi or /usr/lib/grub/x86_64 -efi-signed/grubx64.efi.signed . They are prebuilt binaries in the deb packages and reference /EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg . I understand that it's necessary if you want to have a signed grubx64.efi, but we should be able to have correct implementation if we don't care about secure boot. I can find a setting that say which grubx64.efi to take. Maybe it's handleded by alternatives, I will check that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625200 Title: Permit to define bootloader_id in grub configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1625200/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1848746] Re: Refresh rate change requests to 40Hz are "adjusted" back to 60Hz

Strange... I suppose I should go upstream for this bug, since it doesn't seem it will be addressed any time soon here. I didn't mod my EDID yet, but the workaround likely still works. [Bug 1929346] [NEW] Bug in the Calamares installer resulting in no installation of the boot loader in the BIOS mode
Public bug reported: Dear Lubuntu Team I’m writing to let you know that there is a serious bug in the Calamares installer with the potential to brick computers due to installations without a boot loader in BIOS+MBR mode. I thought I’ll update another thread with the same issue 1, however, considering that thread is locked, I’m creating this one with the resolution. When we try to install Lubuntu 20.04 LTS using the Calamares installer in the BIOS mode, the installer should by default install the boot loader in a 538MB fat32 partition with the boot flag, however, Calamares doesn’t do that at all. This results in a bricked device. Anyone who wants to install Lubuntu 20.04 LTS in the BIOS mode with MBR, needs to go for a manual partitioning, and then creating a MBR partitioning table. This bug is not present in the Ubiquity or the Kubuntu installer, because I have installed all the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS flavours except Lubuntu without any issues in the same system applying the same method - automatically partitioning the entire disk in the BIOS+MBR mode. I also encountered this bug while installing the most recent version of Q4OS. The Lubuntu team should either use the Ubiquity installer or fix this. Thank you. ** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bios focal lubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1929346 Title: Bug in the Calamares installer resulting in no installation of the boot loader in the BIOS mode To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1929346/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1928360] Re: Switch to Fcitx 5 for Chinese
@Seth: I suppose that the DENIED file I attached in comment #7 does not help much. Fcitx 5 is a separate process, i.e. /usr/bin/fcitx5 as opposed to /usr/bin/fcitx. When in Chromium it behaves as if fcitx5 does not exist, even if the process runs and I can use fcitx5 in other applications. I can't even switch to a fcitx5 input method engine when in Chromium, let alone use such an input engine for typing. Maybe that explains why nothing fcitx5 related is reflected as DENIED lines. I'm thinking that maybe there is a need to create the fcitx5 and fcitx5-strict abstractions using the already existing fcitx and fcitx- strict abstractions as models. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928360 Title: Switch to Fcitx 5 for Chinese To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lubuntu-default-settings/+bug/1928360/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1929343] [NEW] Alt-Shift-Tab to Switch Windows in reverse direction not working
Public bug reported: I remember back in Ubuntu 14 (or 16) I was able to press Alt-Tab and then hold Shift to move across the windows in reverse direction. Now in Ubuntu 20.10 this no longer works. However, moving between applications (Super-Tab) does work in forward as well as reverse direction (while holding Shift). This is annoying when moving across many windows quickly, I sometimes "overshoot" by one, and then have to cycle all the way around again. So hereby a request to implement Alt-Shift-Tab for work similarly to Super-Shift-Tab. [Bug 1929213] Re: Ubuntu server fails to install if boot is not on sda1
Possibly original tittle might be wrong. Ive reset physical connections and BIOS, but could not reproduce ID switch. I might just have been tired and imagined it. Nevertheless, installation still fail. Through trial and error one thing is clear - plain HDD install( no LVM/Crypto) does work like a charm. What I found odd about his is fact that installer, seems to see partitions cloned after restart, while parted does not( txt and img in ;single_drive_encr_lvm;). I'm fairly sure other iterations did produce similar duplication, but I just brushed it off as trash after last install - my bad? [Bug 1922342] Re: HIrsute live session takes ages to boot on BIOS systems
Hi Thomas, I try the solution from comment #39 erasing the five lines referring to grub_platform and it did not work. Now I'm trying to do what you proposed on comment #45 being aware of comment #46 and, like it happened this morning when I first tried it, the output of -report_system_area is different to what you said. At morning, before your post realizing that the Ubuntu version of xorriso can't create an ISO with a GPT partition table, I was trying that and got the same output. I continued burning the iso to the usb drive but the boot delayed again. Then you mentioned the xorriso affair and I stopped the test. I return to the test now and I have the same output of the report_system_area command. In this case I stopped here because I think that is anything wrong and it is going to be unsuccessful again. I sumarize what I did (my working directory is $HOME/Impish_tests). I use absolute paths for avoiding possible errors. 1- Set the ORIG variable to $HOME/Impish_tests/ubuntu-21.04-desktop- amd64.iso ORIG=/home/jose/Impish_tests/ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso 2- Set the NEW variable to $HOME/Impish_tests/ubuntu-21.04-test.iso NEW=/home/jose/Impish_tests/ubuntu-21.04-test.iso 3- Make a copy of the original iso (cp "$ORIG" "$NEW") 4- Set the STICK variable to /dev/sdd. My system assign this letter to the usb drive. I assume that the usb drive shoud have an original ubuntu 21.04 ISO burned. STICK=/dev/sdd 5- Set the FLAGSFILE variable to the file $HOME/Impish_tests/gnome_disk_flags.img FLAGSFILE=gnome_disk_flags.img 6- Extract 8 bytes of the working USB stick after the 1072 one and create the file referenced by $FLAGSFILE (this command shoud be issued with sudo). sudo dd if="$STICK" bs=1 skip=1072 count=8 of="$FLAGSFILE" 8+0 records in 8+0 records out 8 bytes copied, 0,00128856 s, 6,2 kB/s 7- Implant this 8 bytes after the first 1072 of the $NEW ISO file. dd if="$FLAGSFILE" conv=notrunc bs=1 seek=1072 count=8 of="$NEW" 8+0 records in 8+0 records out 8 bytes copied, 0,000311537 s, 25,7 kB/ 8- Verify that these 8 bytes into $NEW are now like in "$STICK". Here is the problem. The output is the following: ~/Impish_tests$ xorriso_dir/xorriso-1.5.4/xorriso/xorriso -indev stdio:"$NEW" -report_system_area plain | grep 'GPT partition flags:' GNU xorriso 1.5.4.pl02 : RockRidge filesystem manipulator, libburnia project. xorriso : NOTE : Loading ISO image tree from LBA 0 xorriso : UPDATE : 908 nodes read in 1 seconds libisofs: NOTE : Found hidden El-Torito image for EFI. libisofs: NOTE : EFI image start and size: 1373661 * 2048 , 10040 * 512 xorriso : NOTE : Detected El-Torito boot information which currently is set to be discarded Drive current: -indev 'stdio:/home/jose/Impish_tests/ubuntu-21.04-test.iso' Media current: stdio file, overwriteable Media status : is written , is appendable Boot record : El Torito , MBR protective-msdos-label grub2-mbr cyl-align-off GPT Media summary: 1 session, 1376337 data blocks, 2688m data, 19.1g free Volume id: 'Ubuntu 21.04 amd64' GPT partition flags: 1 0x1001 --> But you said it must be GPT partition flags: 1 0x0005 GPT partition flags: 2 0x GPT partition flags: 3 0x1001 But like you said on the comment <> So if I run the command with $STICK: ~/Impish_tests$ sudo xorriso_dir/xorriso-1.5.4/xorriso/xorriso -indev stdio:"$STICK" -report_system_area plain | grep 'GPT partition flags:' GNU xorriso 1.5.4.pl02 : RockRidge filesystem manipulator, libburnia project. xorriso : NOTE : Loading ISO image tree from LBA 0 xorriso : UPDATE : 908 nodes read in 1 seconds libisofs: NOTE : Found hidden El-Torito image for EFI. libisofs: NOTE : EFI image start and size: 1373661 * 2048 , 10040 * 512 xorriso : NOTE : Detected El-Torito boot information which currently is set to be discarded Drive current: -indev 'stdio:/dev/sdd' Media current: stdio file, overwriteable Media status : is written , is appendable Boot record : El Torito , MBR protective-msdos-label grub2-mbr cyl-align-off GPT Media summary: 1 session, 1376337 data blocks, 2688m data, 1173m free Volume id: 'Ubuntu 21.04 amd64' GPT partition flags: 1 0x1001--> It is the same as $NEW, but ending in 1 instead of 5, like you said.
