[Bug 1930995] Re: snapd too heavy for lubuntu

Snapd does not need to be running to run apps. It is really only
required to handle auto-updates. Everything else will auto start on
socket activation.

[Bug 1931244] Re: ovn sriov broken from ussuri onwards

2021-06-08 Thread Frode Nordahl
Terry, while I'd love it if Neutron had completed the migration to using
OVN services and database for everything as a replacement for the AMQP
RPC and agent infrastructure, the reality is that this is not (yet) the
case.

For the SR-IOV use case the OVN driver owns ports and provides DHCP- and
Metadata- services to the consumers of the sriovnicsiwtch mechanism
driver. At this point in time the sriovnicswitch driver still relies on
an agent and RPC.

The RPC code does indeed read and update ports and subsequently will
call into the OVN driver.

Thank you for the pointer to the RpcWorker class name. I will put up a
proposal for how we could conditionally add OVN IDL connections to the
RPC Workers gated on the presence of the sriovnicswitch driver.

[Bug 1930995] Re: snapd too heavy for lubuntu

2021-06-08 Thread Alberto Mardegan
snapd could be changed not to be run all the time: the `snap` command
could start snapd if it's not running, and this would address the first
and third points mentioned by Ian (because when a snap program is run,
what is first executed is actually /usr/bin/snap), and it should be
possible to handle automatic updates by running some snap command at
some defined moments.

This would come at a cost, though: the startup times of snap
applications could be considerably longer if snapd has to be cold
started. It may be that the performance impact of starting snapd is
negligible on faster machines, but if the whole point of this operation
is to improve support for lubuntu, which is typically run on older
machines, then changing the snapd behaviour to start on demand might not
be doing a favour to lubuntu users.

We might want to sit down and weigh pros and cons, but at first sight
the gain seems not to be worth the efforts.

[Bug 1930995] Re: snapd too heavy for lubuntu

2021-06-08 Thread gregrwm
seems like tunnel vision to me, no concern for getting out of the way
(exiting) when there's really nothing to be done. chromium isn't even
running. if it, or snap, were invoked, that would be a reasonable time
to re-launch. if such reasonable analysis is not in the scope of the
project, i'd say the project ought not be in the scope of lubuntu. hmm,
actually, perhaps it already isn't, perhaps i only got stuck to the
tarbaby by installing chromium.

[Bug 1903936] Re: Update to 1.58

2021-06-08 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Robert, or anyone else affected,

Accepted snapd-glib into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd-
glib/1.58-0ubuntu0.18.04.0 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1787857] Re: USB mouse cursor lags after random time of correct behaviour

2021-06-08 Thread Rudolf Schmidt
In my case with Parrot Linux it was a case of Interrupt conflicts.
IRQ#18 kept being disabled by the system. After disabling the EHCI
Handoff in the BIOS,ehci_hcd:usb1 was replaced with ehci_hcd:usb2 and
the mouse lag after a random period of time stopped.

You can view your interrupt assignments with:
cat /proc/interrupts

Mine changed from:
18: IO-APIC 18-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb1, pata_jmicron, ata_piix, uhci_hcd:usb8
to:
18: IO-APIC 18-fasteoi ehci_hcd:usb2, pata_jmicron, ata_piix, uhci_hcd:usb8

And the problem was resolved.

so please use these tools to do a full health check of the system
memory:

It will take several hours so you will need to leave it running

[Bug 1561345] Re: terminator crashed with AttributeError in wrapcloseterm(): 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'grab_focus'

2021-06-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
My above traceback is slightly different than the OP but there seem to
be some known issues in this section of code also with similar
backtraces:

"'NoneType' object has no attribute 'grab_focus'"

[Bug 1925985] Re: CVE-2021-22204

2021-06-08 Thread Alex Murray
Launchpad is tracking the status against the current development release
of Ubuntu (21.10) only - as can be see on the Ubuntu CVE tracker,
https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2021-22204 this is not resolved for
other Ubuntu releases yet.

Also since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdateProcedures

[Bug 1928744] Re: Disk IO very slow on kernel 4.15.0-142-generic

2021-06-08 Thread Mariusz
Hi Khaled,

I have finished testing the kernels - it took more time than I expected
but the results are:

4.15.0-136-generic: no issues
4.15.0-137-generic: disk performance issue
4.15.0-139-generic: disk performance issue
4.15.0-140-generic: disk performance issue
4.15.0-142-generic: disk performance issue

Each kernel was running for minimum 7 days. Those which have disk
performance issue start to break after few days of normal workload.

Here is an example of "iotop -a", when our disk operations are
throttled:

Actual DISK READ: 0.00 B/s | Actual DISK WRITE: 0.00 B/s

So, I think it is ok to say that the problem was introduced with
4.15.0-137-generic.

We will try to see the latest kernel in our next patching window. However,
based on the fact that kernels 137,139,140,142 are not working correctly, could
this be related to some tuning changes? In our case, we haven't done any
changes to e.g. sysctl after patching.

Many thanks for your help so far!

[Bug 1931307] Re: the installation is not being completely done. whethe the installer is crushing or installation is failed showing a message about CD or DVD problem.

2021-06-08 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

ps: I see numerous IO errors
Jun 8 21:34:45 ubuntu kernel: [ 21.974415] EXT4-fs warning (device sda5):
ext4_clear_journal_err:5332: Filesystem error recorded from previous mount: IO
failure
Jun 8 21:41:02 ubuntu kernel: [ 769.580328] FAT-fs (sda1): Volume was not
properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck.

VMs if given insufficient resources can have trouble working correctly
(with issues such as reading installation media (CD) one symptom), but
Oracle (who own/create virtualbox) say it's a user error, not product
error. Thus my support suggestion.

  movim

[Discussion]
Movim is a distributed social network built on XMPP.

Laravel is a PHP-based, commercially-supported web framework that builds
atop the Symfony web framework, providing a number of "1st-party"
plugins for billing, auth, browser testing, etc.

Laravel 6.20 was introduced in Debian ubuntu in Dec 2020, and auto-
sync'd into Ubuntu hirsute at that time. (Current upstream is releasing
Laravel 8.45, however 6.x is their LTS series, with security support
through Sep. 2022.)

For Ubuntu impish we are introducing PHP 8.0, and updating a number of
PHP ecosystem pieces to their PHP 8 versions. Technically, Laravel 6.20
indicates support for PHP 8.0 itself
(https://github.com/laravel/framework/commit/897a47136c2da2fdc7e19cee89c2f3a514192dee),
however Laravel 6.20 appears to not be compatible with some of the other
ecosystem pieces being introduced, and looks like significant work will
be needed to get it transitioned.

Upstream recommends to their new users to install Laravel via their
Docker container [https://laravel.com/docs/8.x/installation].
Experienced users are directed to use PHP's package manager, 'composer',
to install Laravel's PHP components from the web. 3rd party install
guides found via google also walk users through using composer to
install laravel, rather than install via apt. In general it appears
users are relying on an Ubuntu LTS for the webserver and the PHP
runtime, but prefer latest Laravel in order to get up-to-date security
fixes and features.

Debian's PopCon gives the php-laravel-framework and related components a
0.00% rating, with only 7 people having installed it (of which only 2
people used it recently). We do not have any data suggesting Ubuntu's
install base is significantly different from Debian's.

Given the above, it seems most helpful for end users to focus efforts on
stabilizing the base PHP 8.0 components, and drop Laravel from the
archive for Impish. Since Laravel was only just introduced in hirsute,
and since the popcon numbers suggest few are using it yet, it's unlikely
this change will have a notable impact to users.

[Bug 1931278] Re: Creating FIT images is not supported

2021-06-08 Thread Loïc Minier
thanks for the patch!

this might be easier to review as smaller atomic changes, but perhaps I
can still follow around the debdiff :)

1) The its files are data, so they should to /usr/share; I wouldn't
encourage local customizations by dropping them in /etc unless that's an
important function; a way to give control would be to install a local
flash-kernel database entry that overrides the shipped defaults for that
hardware; this should be possible with /etc/flash-kernel/db?

2) would you add the new Boot-FIT-Path and Boot-ITS-Path to README?

3) seems "Boot-ITS-Path: /.../foo.its" should be written "U-Boot-ITS-
Name: foo.its" and should be searched in the default flash-kernel
directory

4) would it be possible to avoid the cp calls for kernel and initrd and
just generate the fit image from their locations? the kernels / initrds
tend to be big, so I suspect this adds non-trivial time to the run on SD
cards

5) mkimage_fit(): why is padding needed? perhaps deserves a comment.
Should this be a config?

6) the full path name in DTB-Id is the first one in the database,
perhaps this suggests the corresponding deb should be in Required-
Packages? would help with d-i usage

6) "cd" looks pretty singular compared to rest of functions; could it be
avoided?

[Bug 1931312] [NEW] i386 version of libpipewire-0.3 for Ubuntu Focal 20.04

2021-06-08 Thread Fabio C. Barrionuevo
Public bug reported:

Hi, I updated the packages today and one of them was Steam.
When trying to open Steam, it is reported missing to install 32-bit version of
libpipewire-0.3.so.0

luzfcb@fabio-pc:~ $ STEAM_RUNTIME=0 steam
Running Steam on focal 20.04 64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is disabled by the user
Error: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run:

I did a brief search and saw that there is no 32bit version of pipewire
0.3 release.

[Bug 1930615] Please test proposed package

2021-06-08 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Ben, or anyone else affected,

Accepted vala-panel-appmenu into groovy-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vala-panel-
appmenu/0.7.3.2+dfsg1-1ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
groovy to verification-done-groovy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-groovy.
