[Bug 1924800] Re: Popup menu flickers on Firefox and Sway combo

2021-06-13 Thread Wouter Horré
There's a backport of the fix to sway 1.5 here:
https://github.com/swaywm/sway/pull/6283

I'll look into publishing a patched packaged to my PPA later this week.
It's been a while since I did any ubuntu packaging, so it might take a
while to get it right.

[Bug 1931312] Re: i386 version of libpipewire-0.3 for Ubuntu Focal 20.04

2021-06-13 Thread SOURAV DAS
I'm Unsure about x86/32 bit versions of PipeWire libraries, I'm the PPA
maintaner of PipeWire package, See : https://pipewire-debian.github.io .
I've enabled to build for both x64 and x86 bit versions on Launchpad,
but it's not building x86 version. All subpackage has "Architecture :
Any", but still x86 version is not built. I found some links for the
issue : https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/i386-packages-in-launchpad-
ppas/15367/7 , https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-process-for-32
-bit-compatibility/12598 ,

Now have no idea how to build and publish with x86 support. If you have
guys any solution please create an issue/PR on https://github.com
/pipewire-debian/pipewire-debian or on the official debian packaging
upstream https://salsa.debian.org/utopia-
team/pipewire/-/tree/debian/experimental

[Bug 1885530] Re: password doesn't leave dots on being entered

2021-06-13 Thread Chris Guiver
A support query (https://askubuntu.com/questions/1345585/how-to-
highlight-password-field-by-default-in-sddm-lubuntu) made me remember
this bug...

Notes here don't make much mention of it; but I recall trying to login
using incorrect passwords on a QA-test install (focal & I believe
groovy) and being unable to.

Today I had a quick repeat (today's impish daily) on
- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)
but this issue doesn't occur on them...

However on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e8300, 8gb, amd/ati radeon rv610/radeon hd2400
pro/xt)
another box primarily exploring support question

booting live & a simple logout & no dots appeared on entry of password

no adjustment of displays was needed for issue to occur (and issue still
occurs after displays are changed; ie monitor.settings & position
relative to each other)

i tried a few times to enter using invalid password (no password
currently set; it wasn't changed) and I was unable to enter using any
letters...

I cleared field (~20 backspace) then entered a known length password
"password" and hit enter. It fails (hard to see given the screen already
said "Login failed" but it's still a lack of response compared to
login).. I hit backspace & enter (7), backspace enter (6)... it didn't
login until the password field was correctly empty (by my count)...

ie. I still don't believe this is an issue.

Whilst I don't recall QA-testing hirsute; the OP in the support query
was using 21.04 (hirsute), and I see this issue on my primary box anyway
& have for years.. (would be really useful if I could remember when it
first appeared!) so I'll add other tags

** Tags added: groovy hirsute impish

[Bug 1930359] Re: gdm fails to start with latest mutter 3.36.9-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 in focal-updates

From: Kai-Heng Feng

Link:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/commit/93f3ce3c305571bfc39f6d9e5d221e1b60a920a4

The testpackage is available in [1]:

[1] https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf311791-test

I provided the testpackage to the affected user, and they installed it
in a test VDI on their VMware Horizon environment, and wrote back that
it works.

So, it seems to be the CRTc changes from bug 1905825.

The affected user's environment uses Nvidia GRID GPUs, passed into the
VDI. They are using the Nvidia GRID 450.51.05 driver.

I have been trying to reproduce this for a few days now. Google Cloud
has an option to pass a Nvidia P4 GPU into the instance, and turn on
Nvidia GRID, so I have been using that platform.

I have tried with gpu, without gpu, multiple versions of mutter, with
and without VMware Horizon Viewagent 7.13, but in each of my runs, I see
gdm3 running, and I see the usual processes that get spawned off of it.
I have tried multiple versions of the Nvidia GRID driver, available from
[2], but they appear to act the same.

[2] https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/gpus/grid-drivers-table

I think I am missing something, but I'm not sure what. I have tried
using the "virtual display" feature with and without, and when it is
enabled and I view the screenshot, I just see a black screen with a
blinking cursor, no matter what mutter package I have installed.

It could be a virtual hotplug might be needed, but I'm not sure how that
can be achieved on Google Cloud, or how it would happen on the affected
user's VMware Horizon on VMware ESXi environment.

I will ask the affected user for some more logs, so we can better see
what is going on.

[Bug 1884248] Re: networkd-dispatcher gives corrupted information

2021-06-13 Thread Sebastian Unger
In fact, I can confirm that hirsute package cleanly installs in focal
and (almost) fixes the issue.

Almost because the Address is set to the string "172.25.117.104 (DHCP4)"
which is not very useful. Expecting scripts to parse that string and
take it apart makes a farce of passing all that information in JSON
format in the first place.

[Bug 1931824] [NEW] installer crashed after oem install

2021-06-13 Thread Clayton Smith
Public bug reported:

I installed ubuntu in oem mode for someone, I made sure I was there in case
there was any problem.
I ran the program to send to end consumer, restarted the system, and the
installer crashed during the install section, where it says ubuntu has cool
features, and I noticed it seemed to pause after setting up the keyboard, and
the last thing it said was that it started, and closed openvpn.

in case the report doesn't send this information automatically, I
installing the latest lts version, 19.04 I believe, it will not show me
the version at the moment so that is an educated guess, and an intell i3
2.5 Ghz processor.

Re: [Bug 1925397] Re: podman can't find runc

2021-06-13 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Please also check the configuration in your home directory.

Also, you always have the option of just installing both crun and run.

Lastly, can you try podman on hirsute or impish? Vagrant should make this
really easy.

I recently upgraded my physical machine to Ubuntu 21.04, and that is why
I had to run everything inside of that vagrant vm instead of on my
physical computer.

Let me know if there is anything I can do help, I love using vagrant so
if you need some resources for how to use it I can give you some.

[Bug 1925397] Re: podman can't find runc

2021-06-13 Thread Alex Rodriguez
Sorry, I didn't see the last email come in.

So, instead of trying to troubleshoot my environment I actually just
pulled down an Ubuntu 20.10 vagrant box (
https://app.vagrantup.com/bento/boxes/ubuntu-20.10/ ), and I get the
same error on that as well.

So, I didn't change anything in my config. Here is a grep command that
strips out all the comments from the containers.conf file in the vagrant
box and there are no configuration settings.

$ grep -vP '^((\s+|)(\/\/|#)|$)' /etc/containers/containers.conf
[containers]
[network]
[engine]
[engine.runtimes]

Then I tried to run the same podman run fedora container command, and it failed
on me again.

$ podman run --rm -it fedora
Error: default OCI runtime "runc" not found: invalid argument

It looks like all the podman commands I try to run, they are trying to
call runc instead of crun:

$ podman system reset
Error: default OCI runtime "runc" not found: invalid argument

You can pull down the vagrant box ( with any hypervisor they support (
virtualbox/vmware/parallels ) and give it a try as well. That way you can do
the troubleshooting in a vm that is giving you the same errors that I have.

[Bug 1931756] Re: [XPS 17 9700, Intel Kabylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem

Hello

Thank You for your assistance.

I installed 5.11 but no luck still. No sound and only "Dummy Output".

I looked through my syslog and I found some references to alsa and
sound. The syslog is too large to send but I have extracted all the
references to also and sound. There are a lot of errors. Hope it helps.

[Bug 1921632] Re: build module CONFIG_SND_SOC_INTEL_SOUNDWIRE_SOF_MACH=m for 5.11, 5.13-rc2 and later

2021-06-13 Thread Herczeg Zsolt
My machine is a Dell XPS 9700, happy to provide hardware info or any
other details you may be interested in. With -20 kernel audio and 4k
support is both broken. Audio behaves exactly like with unpatched -16 or
-17 kernels, only "dummy output" is present no onboard input/outputs are
visible.

Would there be any data/tests that you have in mind to see why the -20
kernel does not correctly handle the audio devices? I'm happy to perform
those if you give me a general direction.

[Bug 1931698] Re: Can't uninstall firefox.

2021-06-13 Thread Radek Raczkowski
Thank you for the detailed explanation on why is this happening.

>Is your issue that you don't believe a browser should be required for the
>desktop
I think the better approach is to make the browser a recommended package
instead of a dependency.

>...you want another browser from Ubuntu repositories to be added to the
>dependency-alternate list?
Is it possible to add to this list a package that isn't in the Ubuntu
repositories e.g. Brave Browser? On my machine, both Brave and Vivaldi are
installed but they can't be used as the dependency currently. If the purpose of
this dependency is to make displaying an html help page of a package then an
Opera Web Browser and microsoft-edge (-dev) can be used too as well as a
terminal web browser - w3m; lynx; links2; elinks.

[Bug 1931815] [NEW] the %{remote_ip} output format is broken on proxied connections

2021-06-13 Thread Bill Yikes
Public bug reported:

This is how a Tor user would use cURL to grab a header, and also expect
to be told which IP address was contacted:

curl --ssl --socks4a 127.0.0.1:9050 -L --head -w '(effective URL =>
"%{url_effective} @ %{remote_ip}")' "$target_url"

It's broken because the "remote_ip" is actually just printed as the
127.0.0.1 (likely that of the proxy server not the remote target host).

[Bug 1931813] [NEW] Alienware Area-51m / Realtek ALC215 multi-function headphone jacks configured incorrectly

2021-06-13 Thread Mark Weaver
Public bug reported:

The built in laptop speakers / mic work ok
There are two 3.5mm jack ports which end up configured one as a headphone
socket and one as a microphone, whereas in Windows they are multi-function
ports that support headsets.

Adding `options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=dell-headset-multi` to
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf makes the port normally configured as
headphones work (inserting anything shows a screen asking to know what
was inserted -- headphones or headset) but the port normally configured
as a microphone stays that way. I have done a bit of poking about but
couldn't figure out how to make the pin configs the same (most of the
documentation for compiling ALSA seems out of date).

I ran RtHDDump on Windows and attached the output from that in case it's
useful.

Thanks!

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal snap

** Description changed:

- I have just upgraded from Kubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. I closed Chromium
- while the upgrade was running when I was prompted to do so. Chromium
- changed to Chromium Snap. A new tab that opened told me all my old data
- was taken over. Chromium Snap did take over bookmarks, but it did not
- take over cookies and passwords.

[Bug 1862423] Re: Save directory for gnome-screenshots cannot be changed

2021-06-13 Thread pled
I would like to be able to change that directory too. By default, it is located
in XDG_PICTURES_DIR gnome directory.
But I would like to move screenshots elsewhere so that XDG_PICTURES_DIR is only
for my own personal pictures.
That makes sense too me, it is the way I use XDG_VIDEO_DIR, XDG_MUSIC_DIR,
etc...

[Bug 1931800] [NEW] default whiskermenu configuration requires mugshot, but mugshot is not included

2021-06-13 Thread Dan Robinson
Public bug reported:

Since Whiskermenu which is on the default panel configuration tries to
launch Mugshot when you click on your username, mugshot should be
included in the default desktop so users don't get an error message
straight out of the box.

[Bug 1931797] [NEW] Chromium Snap does not take over cookies and passwords

2021-06-13 Thread Monika Eggers
Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded from Kubuntu 18.04 to 20.04. I closed Chromium
while the upgrade was running when I was prompted to do so. Chromium
changed to Chromium Snap. A new tab that opened told me all my old data
was taken over. Chromium Snap did take over bookmarks, but it did not
take over cookies and passwords.

[Bug 1876056] Re: No automatic switch to headset microphone on connect

2021-06-13 Thread Egbert van der Wal
@rcassini - that is what the modification I suggested also does.

To get back towards Pulsaaudio though, I did pay more attention to
differen platforms. It occured to my that Mac OS also isn't capable of
detecting what type of jack is plugged in, but still manages to make a
decent automatic choice.

I noticed that:

- When I plug in headphones, it uses the internal mic -> OK
- When I plug a simple headset, it switches to headset mic -> OK
- When I plug in a more advanced headset with mute control that is unmuted, it
still switches to headset mic -> OK
- When I plug in this same headset with the mic muted, it remains on internal
mic -> questionable, but makes sense. When I then unmute, it still switches to
headset mic.

So it seems to actually poll the wires for a signal, and if any input
that looks like a mic is coming through, it switches. So when it's
muted, no signal comes through and it assumes it's a headset.

Simple and clever, and usually what you want. The main drawback is that
this may lead to a situation where you think you're muted but you're
actually not muted because it uses the internal mic which isn't muted.

Still, something that I'd like to see implemented in Pulseaudio as well!

Re: [Bug 1926225] Re: Maxima fails to start with error message "The assertion realpath(s, o) on line 471 of main.c in function mbin failed: Invalid argument Aborted (core dumped)"

2021-06-13 Thread PeterPall
The Ubuntu package is just the Debian packaging instructions executed on
Ubuntu. I still haven't found out how to deviate from that but normally
if the Ubuntu package doesn't work the Debian one doesn't either so it
might not matter.

The packaging instructions can be found in debian/control in
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/m/maxima/maxima_5.44.0-3.debian.tar.xz

Currently I don't have access to an unarchive to look into them.
