[Bug 1931905] Re: Crash on upgrade

2021-06-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The tool was made to upgrade Ubuntu and flavors of Ubuntu
(https://ubuntu.com/download/flavours) where as you are not use a
supported system.

Your system has foreign (Pop) packages that the upgrade tool wants to
remove to accomplish upgrade, but your system has marked as 'cannot be
removed'

2021-06-14 13:27:39,901 DEBUG The package 'pop-desktop' is marked for removal
but it's an ESSENTIAL package
2021-06-14 13:27:56,093 ERROR Dist-upgrade failed: 'The essential package
'pop-desktop' is marked for removal.'

The issue is not the upgrade tool but you're using an unsupported
product; ie. not using a Ubuntu system.

Please refer to Pop OS documentation, eg.
https://support.system76.com/articles/upgrade-pop/

I've marked this 'invalid'; however if you believe I'm in error, please
leave a comment explaining why, and the status can be changed back to
"New".

2021-06-14 Thread Prashant
The only package which was updated, everything was fine until the update
happened executed the update-initramfs and once system rebooted dual
monitor was gone, recovered from the complete image of the system and
holded the package since then.

to the old smesg so I have attached a copy.

[Bug 1931913] [NEW] Please drop shaarli (and associated components) from impish

2021-06-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:

Remove shaarli and its dependency php-oscarotero-gettext from impish.
Per Debian's popcon, shaarli and php-oscarotero-gettext do not appear to
be widely installed (https://qa.debian.org/popcon.php?package=shaarli).

In LP: #1931315, the Laravel ecosystem (aka php-illuminate-*) was
removed from impish due to issues building and testing it with PHP 8,
newer PSR, and other newer php components. php-oscarotero-gettext
depends on php-illuminate-database (c.f.
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-impish/impish/amd64/p
/php-oscarotero-gettext/20210611_231608_617be@/log.gz) and thus is now
uninstallable. This in turn prevents php-twig and symfony from
migrating, which in turn hinder the PHP 8 migration.

The only thing needing shaarli is fbx-all, which Suggests it. fbx-all
is a metapackage for the Freedombox hardware product's FOSS software.
Freedombox targets Debian specifically (not Ubuntu), so the impact of
not carrying shaarli in Ubuntu looks minimal.

[Bug 1931835] Re: [20.04] Boot hangs at "loading initial ramdisk"

2021-06-14 Thread Alex Murray
Can you please try editing the grub command-line during boot and adding

dis_ucode_ldr

as an extra kernel boot parameter?

If this allows the machine to boot then it shows the issue is specific to the
microcode but if not then this is likely a kernel issue - also given that we
ship the same microcode in all releases I suspect that this is likely a kernel
issue but it would be good to confirm this. If this does turn out to look like
a kernel issue then this bug should be reassigned against the linux package.

[Bug 1931728] Re: [scalingstack bos01] bionic (arm64) instances always fail to boot on eMAGs in this cloud

2021-06-14 Thread dann frazier
IS gave me a copy of the libvirt xml for the guest, and I used it to
build a VM as similar as possible (minus some details about
storage/NIC). However I was still unable to reproduce on a ThunderX2
host. I asked a contact over at Ampere Computing to see if this symptom
was something they'd seen before, but it didn't ring any bells. We are
using host-passthrough CPUs, so one difference would be underlying CPU.
I noticed that the failing guest log shows KPTI as a cpu feature but my
(working) one doesn't. I tried forcing KPTI on (kpti=1) on the guest to
compensate, but that also did not trigger the failure. I couldn't really
spot any other interesting differences in the log.

btw, this bug says bionic guests fails to boot - do we know if other
Ubuntu guests versions are OK?

[Bug 1834085] Re: Bluetooth touchpad (Apple Magic Trackpad) disconnects every few minutes

2021-06-14 Thread Jose Rojas
Same issue on Ubuntu 20.04 5.11.0 with an Apple Magic Trackpad on an AMD
desktop machine. My Apple Bluetooth keyboard works great - no issues
with any disconnections. The Apple Magic Trackpad will glitch typically
when there is some significant CPU load. The glitch will either
disconnect the trackpad entirely, or it reconnects after 10 to 60
seconds but usually in a state where the normal tap is registered as a
secondary click. The trackpad works great with my Apple laptop so this
is not a hardware issue.

[Bug 1890858] Re: AppArmor profile causes QEMU/KVM - Not Connected

2021-06-14 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Christian, a few thoughts:

- it sounds like we're going to modify the ../local/.. version of the
file in a package update. I think this is a mistake. If we're going to
modify policy, we should modify the 'real' policy and leave the
../local/.. version for the system administrator.

- it sounds like the rule we're adding a very broad rule that allows far
more access than needed for the problem at hand. Reducing this to just
allowing necessary privileges on the '@userdb-*' sockets would be much
tighter.

- based on the fact that these interfaces look like they're part of
systemd, it probably solves a lot more problems to add these rules to
abstractions/nameservice near the existing systemd rules, or perhaps
move those and add this to a new abstraction, and add it to the
abstractions/nameservice file. That would address this same service when
used via other applications, not just libvirt.

Funny thing though, I only see this userdb- string in our packaging:
userdb_thread_sockaddr in:
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3.4/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3.3/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.2-1ubuntu1/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.5-3ubuntu1/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3.2/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-2ubuntu1/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3.5/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.5-2ubuntu2/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu1/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3.6/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.4-4ubuntu3.1/src/shared/userdb.c
systemd_245.6-1ubuntu1/src/shared/userdb.c

I can't find this code via Debian Code Search, eg:

http://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=userdb-%25016
http://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=ret_salen%20%3D%20offsetof
http://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=NSS%20emulation

I've also tried looking in userdb.c manually:
https://sources.debian.org/src/systemd/247.3-3/src/shared/userdb.c/

'sock' only shows up in a header file, "socket-util.h"

It sure looks like it still exists but it's much harder to find in newer
packages.

Thanks

2021-06-14 Thread abdullahc
@Randy, Those `fgrep` are identical files, so just `sudo rm /bin/fgrep`

@Carlos, Those also identical but symbolic link to alternatives, so just
`sudo rm /bin/ksh`

I believe that `usrmerge` should check for identical files and symlinks,
and make auto solution by deleting one of conflicting files.

[Bug 1930573] Re: usrmerge error after upgradingfrom 20.10 to 21.04

2021-06-14 Thread abdullahc
`hwdb.bin` is a generated file. I did check it in Ubuntu 20.04,
`/lib/udev/hwdb.bin` and `/usr/lib/udev/hwdb.bin` are identical copy, so
no need to be merged.

A quick fix would be deleting one of them:

```sudo rm /lib/udev/hwdb.bin```
Then fix apt using: `sudo apt install -f`
usrmerge should probably make same action.
We could try with a shorter random delay and see if it helps spread
the load.
The 'update-notifier-common' cron.weekly job is usually last so
wouldn't really hold up that many other cron.weekly jobs. If a shoter
random delay/sleep doesn't help, we could consider renaming it to
something like 'zzupdate-notifier-common' and increasing the delay
then.
[Bug 1931802] Re: killall only matching first 15 characters of process name
2021-06-14 Thread Tom Womack
This is not the behaviour I see on other versions of ubuntu, so it
changed for the worse between 18.04 and 20.04; it seems quite a
fundamental default to have changed, and in very much the wrong
direction - that 'within the first 15 characters' seems absolutely
archaic.
I notice that /proc/$PID/comm _is_ truncated to 15 characters on both my
18.04 and 20.04 machines, but killall works correctly in 18.04.
That pidof and killall behave differently is at best irritating.
[Bug 1931907] [NEW] Spacebar in Incremental search in open-file dialog doesn't work
2021-06-14 Thread edgarswooth
Public bug reported:
Steps to reproduce
Stimulate the Nautilus "open-file" dialog to appear somehow. (Say, by Ctrl+O in
Firefox on Ubuntu 20.04.
Click the "search" icon (a magnifying glass at top right), or just start typing.
Begin to type a search in the search box that appears.
Reproducible in:
"Files" 3.36.3-stable on Ubuntu 20.04
Current behavior
There's a race condition, where, if you're faster than the search, you can type
something including a space. However, if you type slowly, as soon as you hit
space, the first result will be opened.
(Note, this incremental search was buggy in a different way back in
v3.26.4 on Ubuntu 18.04, when I reported this upstream, was told to take
it downstream, and then had to go back to doing real work. See
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/936#note_454231 )
Expected behavior
The incremental search will continue as we type in the search box, without any
focus-stealing.
 In which Ubuntu release are you still seeing this problem?
Ubuntu 16.04 is now "End of Life" so will receive no further
updates. You should either upgrade to or install a supported
release.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
If you are already running a later release please execute the
following command only once, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:
  apport-collect 1691608
When reporting bugs you should use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug'
and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about
this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
2021-06-14 Thread Matheus Reich
Also, I can add that I've only noticed this issue happening while using
DisplayPort, and playing back sound through my LG Monitor. This doesn't
happen when using a USB or Headphone jack headphone/headset. Also, I've
never noticed it happening when using an HDMI monitor, only DP. It could
be a bug with the display drivers, but I find it to be unlikely, given
that restarting PulseAudio fixes the issue temporarily, and then it
comes back.
This is the static that can be heard while playing a song from YouTube
play on the video, but it also has a delay to stop the static.
[Bug 1931902] [NEW] Crackling sound on Pulseaudio for Ubuntu 21.04
2021-06-14 Thread Matheus Reich
Public bug reported:
While playing back any sounds, a certain crackling sound (static) will
play with a fixed delay of the sound being played. The amount and volume
of the static will depend on the sound/music that is being played, and
this only starts occurring after a somewhat long time (30 minutes or
more). What is interesting to see is that while playing back music from
Spotify (Snap) the static will only start after a second or so, but when
playing YouTube videos on Firefox, it will be immediate and output that
static while the video is playing.
I've added two sound recordings, one while playing back a song from
Spotify and the other while playing a song from YouTube. This issue goes
away when restarting the PulseAudio service, but it comes back after a
random amount of time.
[Bug 1931901] [NEW] Revert background key patch removal breaks dependent packages
2021-06-14 Thread fossfreedom
Public bug reported:
in the package gnome-desktop3 there is a custom ubuntu patch that tries
to write to the draw-background key that has now been removed in
gsettings-desktop-schemas 40.0-1ubuntu1
All packages that depend on the gnome-desktop3 library now crash such as
budgie-desktop
Suggestion - either re-add the patch again ... or revert the gnome-
desktop3 custom patch.
The latter option changes the symbols so probably I'm guessing a so-name
version bump is needed and any dependent packages need a rebuild?
I'll try to locally rebuild gnome-desktop3 without the custom ubuntu
patch to see what happens with budgie-desktop
I was not able to roll back to 16.3.0 because they are not on any
repositories that I could find so I had to manually download neutron
debian files for focal and thankfully they seem to kind of work on
Bionic Ussuri. We are now running 16.0.0~b3~git2020041516.5f42488a9a-
identical to OP's which was a telltale log entry 'Gateway interface for
router 02945b59-639b-41be-8237-3b7933b4e32d was not set up; router will
not work properly' and also that any Layer-3 agents for a router all
remained in a standby state. None of them would ever go active.
[Bug 1931895] Re: mpv has a problem with 3D Render Engine in VAAPI
2021-06-14 Thread Heinz Assmus
** Description changed:
  When I check hardware acceleration in mpv for intel graphics drivers using
intel-gpu-tools, it seems like mpv has a problem with the 3d render engine in
the vaapi module.
  I use Ubuntu MATE 20.04 with Compiz as a window manager (used plugins Scale,
Expo, Desktop Wall, etc.). When I work with several virtual desktops, the load
on the 3D rendering engine of the Intel driver drops when I switch to a
different desktop than the one on which mpv is active.
  In the Scale plug-in (overview of all windows on all workspaces) the graphics
output then stutters in the reduced video image from mpv. In a normal HD video
(1280x720) the load drops from approx. 32% to approx. 8%. The video engine
(hardware acceleration) has no errors.
  Occupancy continuously at 4% to 6%.
  Mpv works perfectly under Nvidia graphics (no stuttering graphic image
  in the reduced mpv video window with an overview of all windows on all
  workspaces).
  Gstreamer (Ver. 1.18) works fine with gst-play-1.0 on vaapi and nvidia-vdpau.
There is no drop in the utilization of the 3D rendering engine with an overview
of all windows on all workspaces in the Scale plug-in. (Checked with
intel_gpu_top at Intelgraphics).
  The graphics output runs without stuttering in the reduced vlc window and the
Utilization in 3D Render Engine is continuously around 33% throughout.
  This issue exist already a long time before up to now and in other
  distros and flavors with Compiz.
[Bug 1931898] [NEW] fingerprint login not working on kubuntu
2021-06-14 Thread Amnon Yekutieli
Public bug reported:
I installed a fresh UBUNTU 20.04 on my DELL XPS 13 9310 today.
Then I registered some fingerprints on the device (on the default Gnome-
style desktop).
The fingerprint login worked well several times.
After that I installed KUBUNTU-full, using the terminal command.
Now I have both PLASMA and UBUNTU options to log into, but the
**fingerprint reader does not work !!!**
The sequence of activities indicates that the error is in the KUBUNTU
code.
Please help!
When experiencing the issue over the last couple of weeks, it seems as
if the suggested workaround command ($ killall gvfsd-trash) makes the
issue go away. (Next time I click on the nautilus icon after running the
command it opens instantly.)
intel-gpu-tools, it seems like mpv has a problem with the 3d render engine in
the vaapi module.
I use Ubuntu MATE 20.04 with Compiz as a window manager (used plugins Scale,
Expo, Desktop Wall, etc.). When I work with several virtual desktops, the load
on the 3D rendering engine of the Intel driver drops when I switch to a
different desktop than the one on which mpv is active.
In the Scale plug-in (overview of all windows on all workspaces) the graphics
output then stutters in the reduced video image from mpv. In a normal HD video
(1280x720) the load drops from approx. 32% to approx. 8%. The video engine
(hardware acceleration) has no errors.
Occupancy continuously at 4% to 6%.
Mpv works perfectly under Nvidia graphics (no stuttering graphic image
in the reduced mpv video window with an overview of all windows on all
workspaces).
Gstreamer (Ver. 1.18) works fine with gst-play-1.0 on vaapi and nvidia-vdpau.
There is no drop in the utilization of the 3D rendering engine with an overview
of all windows on all workspaces in the Scale plug-in. (Checked with
intel_gpu_top at Intelgraphics).
The graphics output runs without stuttering in the reduced vlc window and the
Utilization in 3D Render Engine is continuously around 33% throughout.
This issue exist already a long time before up to now and in other
distros and flavors with Compiz.
[Bug 1931893] [NEW] symfony autopkgtest failures on armhf "Epoch doesn't fit in a PHP integer"
2021-06-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
Public bug reported:
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
impish/impish/armhf/s/symfony/20210611_233516_d1488@/log.gz
It appears Symfony's testsuite has some trouble with the armhf
architecture, due to integer data type size.  Symfony's tests were
force-reset-test hinted in version 4.3.8+dfsg-1ubuntu1, and patched in
that version for s390x.  For arm64, a couple test cases hit similar
"Epoch doesn't fit" issue for a certain data value, and fixed in 5.2.6
+dfsg-1ubuntu4 by disabling that test value.  For armhf this error crops
up more frequently so better to just reset that arch to known-failure.
Few people use symfony from our archive across all architectures and
likely there are zero users of symfony on arm platforms.
There were 64 errors:
[Bug 1931886] Re: show-regs can cause some samsung controllers to go offline
2021-06-14 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:
  [Impact]
  nvme show-regs has been found to cause certain Samsung controllers
  (MZ1L21T9HCLS in particular) to go offline.
  [Test Case]
  Run `nvme show-regs` on an effected controller device. Messages similar to
this will appear in dmesg:
  [Fix]
  This has been fixed upstream with the following commits:
-
https://github.com/linux-nvme/nvme-cli/commit/33e60ff64a043b189d2661543b417b21b6f3667b
-
https://github.com/linux-nvme/nvme-cli/commit/d43d545a68cc6cea5ac78fda4edeedf3b5198847
+
https://github.com/linux-nvme/nvme-cli/commit/33e60ff64a043b189d2661543b417b21b6f3667b
+
https://github.com/linux-nvme/nvme-cli/commit/d43d545a68cc6cea5ac78fda4edeedf3b5198847
  [What Could Go Wrong]
+ Because the register prmsc is now split into prmscl/prmscu as the
specification requires, the displayed registers will be different in showregs
output. This might surprise any code that is trying to parse this output. Also
upstream made a formatting change here that adds additional whitespace to a
field when running w/ -H (human-readable mode):
+
+ This:
+ Controller Base Address (CBA) : 0
+ Became:
+ Controller Base Address (CBA): 0
+
+ It is human-readable mode which at least I interpret as "not for
+ scripting", but it's possible that there is a user expecting that
+ specific format. We could carry an additional patch to restore this
+ whitespace if the SRU team is so inclined.
