[Bug 1931790] Re: Unable to mount btrfs RAID 1 filesystem after reboot - Error - device total_bytes should be at most X but found Y

2021-06-16 Thread Ravindran K
As a workaround, I installed the 5.4 kernel using mainline and my raid1
btrfs volume seems to be mounting fine..The issue is present even with
latest mainline 5.13 kernel..so definitely more people should be seeing
this.. as and when probably they create/convert to raid 1..

[Bug 1930754] Re: e1000e extremly slow

2021-06-16 Thread hendrik
yes indeed. On the certification page they talk about "I219-V". I didn't
even notice that. That's a good clue.

hmm you describe exactly the same problem as I have. I am almost 100%
sure this fix should help you too. Did you reboot your system with the
new kernel setting? Did you check in /boot/grub/grub.cfg if the new
setting pcie_aspm=off really is there after the reboot?

2021-06-16 Thread Ranjai Baidya
Public bug reported:

Actually, I came across this while I was trying to solve another problem
in my system. When I installed the ubuntu, turns there was no ethernet
driver. So at first I manually downloaded the build-essentials and then
the driver from another pc and then installed them into this system.
Everything was working fine but lateron during apt update the ethernet
wasnot working again. So I tried re-installing the driver, but then
there was some issue with the make file. Then I tried connecting the
device to internet using USB-tethering and perpromed apt update. It was
then that there were some descrepancies occured which asked me to
perform '--fix-broken install'. I did it but this error popped up.

[Bug 1896578] Re: raid10: Block discard is very slow, causing severe delays for mkfs and fstrim operations

2021-06-16 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Evan,

Just checking in. Are you still running 5.4.0-75-generic on your server?

Is everything nice and stable? Is your data fully intact, and no signs
of corruption at all?

My server has been running for two weeks now, and it does a fstrim every
30 minutes, and everything appears to be stable, and I don't have any
corruption when I fsck my disks.

If things keep looking good, the SRU cycle will complete early next
week, and the kernel will be released to -updates around the 21st of
June, give or take a few days if any CVEs turn up.

Let me know how things are going.

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 1932242] [NEW] system locked up with system upgrade UI

2021-06-16 Thread pleabargain
Public bug reported:

I opened my machine to find that the system updater waiting but screen was
unresponsive.
Mouse moved but on click was unresponsive
I went to
ctrl alt f3
htop
to see if there was a CPU overload but nothing there.
I shut down chrome but screen was still unresponsive

Finally after much clicking system upgrader responded
at one point I had two windows asking if I wanted to upgrade.

I noticed that dh-python is not available in the ubuntu repositories.

I eventually shut all system update windows but UI was still sluggish
I ctrl alt f3 and then reboot to be able to post this error.

I took videos of the behavior. see below

[Bug 1932240] [NEW] Catfish File Search has been becoming unresponsive

2021-06-16 Thread ardour
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using?

Xubuntu 20.04.2 LTS.

2) The version of the package you are using?

Catfish File Search 1.4.13

3) What you expected to happen?

Catfish is suppose to find the filenames that you are looking for based
off the search terms that you provide.

4) What happened instead?

Catfish becomes unresponsive after entering search terms, but sometimes
it works and the files are found, but most of the time it becomes
unresponsive.

I went to Synaptic Package Manager and reinstalled Catfish, it didn't
help, I still becomes unresponsive.

** Affects: catfish (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Screenshot of Catfish becoming unresponsive."

[Bug 1932236] Re: lubuntu - calamares doesn't cope well with ditherers

2021-06-16 Thread Chris Guiver
Rebooted dc7700 & started install again.

This time installed started with `sudo -E calamares -d`

As before, two partitions
- sda1
- sda2

Selected replace partition; swapped from one to the other (counting 1, 2, 3..
until 10) though I may counter to 11 as I wanted to stop on sda1

switched to manual partition; then back to replace partition
again swap between sda1 & count 1, 2, 3, 4... (10 or 11 until I got to select
sda1)

this is repeated until it crashes.. at times is fast, but slows down..

I can't be accurate how far I got, but it soon crashed

[Bug 1826691] Re: fwupd hangs after 19.04 upgrade from 18.10

2021-06-16 Thread Jason Pritchard
I tried to reproduce using the same read-dpcd as above on #11. I don't
see the hang anymore using 5.4 on 20.04.

Thanks for following up.

[Bug 1932231] Re: add post-install oem-config hook

patch to include /usr/lib/oem-config/pre-install

https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1932231/+attachment/5505164/+files/ubiquity-oem-pre-install-hook.patch

** Tags added: oem-priority

** Changed in: oem-priority
   Importance: Undecided => High

** Description changed:

Add /usr/lib/oem-config/pre-install to hookdir per oem-config mode.

Per OEM development, we have lots of repeated image installation to run.

To quickly save resource used in this phase, some small automation hook need
to run before run ubiquity GUI.

We already use this hack and work quite well in oem project process, only
for development, not on shipping image.
+
+ Due to the nature that oem project use LTS, we'd like this to SRU back
+ to focal.

I was finally able to spend a bit of time on this. Unfortunately, there’s
not much to report back.

I don’t think I can narrow down which firmware file causes the problem,
because I don’t have a last known good version. All firmware files that I
tested (Ubuntu versions 1.190.5, 1.197 and latest linux-firmware.git)
immediately trigger the bug when I try the only reliable reproducer I know
(i.e., running flatpak’s com.github.quaternion package).

Since it can take several days for the bug to happen if I just use the
machine normally, it would take weeks to narrow down which of the picasso_*
files is more stable relative to the others. And even then, I wouldn’t be
sure about it.

I’m running with the Mesa build from Mario’s PPA now. If I don’t see any
issue within two weeks, I think it will be possible to say that the bug is
gone, or at least much harder to hit.

I can’t use my reproducer in this case, because I can’t change the Mesa
version inside the flatpak image.

[Bug 1932233] Re: lubuntu focal.3 daily - calamares crashed prior install

2021-06-16 Thread Chris Guiver
System was rebooted, live started & install completed on next try.

The difference was lack of selecting this, selecting that, & loads of
hovering over partitions to get 'sda1' & 'sda2' to show on map down the
bottom.

Either way this report I believe is only valid with the latest release
(impish) was used & not OLD FOCAL... but report needed to be done
because I encountered issue in QA-test.

Issue is MINOR & annoyance only (for ditherers)

For G/KVM (5.8.0-1029.31-kvm) mentioned in comment #16, it's failing

Therefore I will remove the cycle tag.

pmtu.sh works fine with Groovy 5.8.0-57.64.

[Bug 1932233] Re: lubuntu focal.3 daily - calamares crashed prior install

2021-06-16 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

- will add shortly (on main pc)
+ Lubuntu focal.3 (daily) QA-test install on
+ - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+
+ testcase was "install with existing partition"
+
+ Box had two installs; focal & impish. impish was re-installed earlier
+ in day, was intending to do the same with focal.
+
+ Install selected was NOT "replace partition", but "Manual Partitioning"
+ with intention of selecting sda2 and install without FORMAT, but I
+ didn't get that far.
+
+ I was NOT careful (or efficient) with my selections so there was loads of
click, look, click look before the crash... I couldn't tell you what I did, but
I roughly I
+ - selected replace partition
+ - selected sda1, selected sda2 (many times each)
+ - moved mouse over partitions in order to confirm sda1/sda2 & make balloon
show..
+
+ (what I consider end-user type behavior, am I correct, is this right...,
+ no click was invalid but they were numerous & equivalent to changing
+ mind, or a user being unsure..)
+
+ ** actual problem
+
+ After playing with "Replace partition" described earlier, I changed to
+ "Manual Partitioning" with intention of selecting SDA2 and calamares
+ closed.
+
+ ** expected result
+
+ Calamares would let me select sda2 at the end of my 'change mind' & let
+ install occur..
+
+ ** Is this a problem?
+
+ I'll repeat install and explore, but this is focal & I can't see any
+ change having occurred.. calamares is just a tad 'fragile' with unsure-
+ users, but so is 'ubiquity`. I'll repeat this type install using
+ 'impish' to explore further. (Next install I won't play; I'll just
+ select sda2 which I knew before I started install anyway)

[Bug 1932231] [NEW] add post-install oem-config hook

2021-06-16 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
Public bug reported:

Add /usr/lib/oem-config/pre-install to hookdir per oem-config mode.

Per OEM development, we have lots of repeated image installation to run.

To quickly save resource used in this phase, some small automation hook need
to run before run ubiquity GUI.

We already use this hack and work quite well in oem project process, only
for development, not on shipping image.

[Bug 1931756] Re: [XPS 17 9700, Intel Kabylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Playback problem

2021-06-16 Thread pbea
Hello again. Thank You for your continuing help.

As I did before, I tried to load 5.11.0-20 but absolutely no luck. I found the
packages at ubuntu.paks(?).org but they locked me up totally. My system froze
halfway through the boot process. Tried it 3 times. Same result. I found some
more at the ubuntu kernel team site but after loading the kernel nothing showed
in grub-customizer or the grub boot menu. Synaptic shows it is loaded and so
does:
 dpkg -l | tail -n +6 | grep -E 'linux-image-[0-9]+' | grep -Fv $(uname -r)
rc linux-image-5.11.0-20-generic 5.11.0-20.21~20.04.1
 amd64Signed kernel image generic
rc linux-image-5.8.0-43-generic 5.8.0-43.49~20.04.1
 amd64Signed kernel image generic
rc linux-image-5.8.0-55-generic 5.8.0-55.62~20.04.1
 amd64Signed kernel image generic
ii linux-image-5.8.0-56-generic 5.8.0-56.63~20.04.1
 amd64Signed kernel image generic
ii linux-image-5.8.0-57-generic 5.8.0-57.64~20.04.1
 amd64Signed kernel image generic

5.11.0-20 does not show on any menu. My best guess is possibly
dependency issues.

Can I try a later kernel? I am using LTS 20.04 and not 21.04 which may
be required.

Another option is for me is to pop in another ssd and try another
distro. Would that work?

Thank You again . . .

[Bug 1927078] Re: Don't allow useradd to use fully numeric names

2021-06-16 Thread Seth Arnold
Heh, a comment in Jawn's debdiff:

 * User/group names must match [a-z_][a-z0-9_-]*[$]

I found period also worked fine:

root@u20:~# useradd 0.0
root@u20:~# getent passwd 0.0
0.0:x:1001:1001::/home/0.0:/bin/sh
root@u20:~# userdel 0.0
root@u20:~# getent passwd 0.0
root@u20:~# exit

I know comments are almost always out of date by the time I read them,
but this one seems wronger than usual. :)

[Bug 1927868] Re: vRouter not working after update to 16.3.1

2021-06-16 Thread Jared Baker
Hey Ubuntu team,

Is there any way for you to provide the Neutron 16.3.0 packages for
Bionic? We are in emergency mode here and the current 16.0.0 we are
running, although working better than 16.3.1 is causing major control
plane instability.

We are in desperate need of 16.3.0 packages.

Admins are still able to hand-edit /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, and mv
home directory names if they've got a good enough reason to use such
names and trust their software to do the right thing.

I was thinking primarily of perl, here:

$ sudo perl -e 'print "muahaa\n" if $< == "0x0";'
muahaa

You could argue that wherever "0x0" came from in this perl program should
have kept track if it received a number or a name, but the language sure
doesn't help.

C examples are less compelling because it has types but the atoi(3)
and strtoul(3) APIs make it very easy to parse something like "2build"
or "4fun" or "0x0" into an integer. (strtol(3) has a nice example.)

How strongly do you feel about this? I can see where you're coming from,
but given (a) the escape hatch mechanism to 'break the rules' isn't too
onerous (b) the ease with which brittle code can be written (c) the
simplicity of 'deny leading digit' compared against 'make sure there's at
least one non-digit' or 'make sure there's at least one letter' etc I
prefer the simpler rule.

Thanks

[Bug 1915445] Re: [MIR] python-aws-requests-auth package

2021-06-16 Thread Avital Ostromich
I reviewed python-aws-requests-auth 0.4.3-2 as checked into impish. This
shouldn't be considered a full audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

python-aws-requests-auth is a python package for manually signing AWS
requests with additional functionality to retrieve AWS credentials via
boto.

- CVE History:
  - No history of CVEs
- Build-Depends?
  - debhelper-compat (= 13), dh-python, python3-all, python3-botocore,
python3-mock, python3-setuptools
- pre/post inst/rm scripts?
  - Populated automatically by python debhelper
- No init scripts
- No systemd units
- No dbus services
- No setuid binaries
- No binaries in PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No polkit files
- No udev rules
- unit tests / autopkgtests
  - Unit tests passing
  - Unit tests run during build
  - Well-documented test suite
- No cron jobs
- Build logs:
  - No significant build errors or warnings
  - No lintian failures

- No processes spawned
- Memory management N/A
- No file IO
- No logging
- No environment variables
- No use of privileged functions
- Use of cryptography
  - Uses python HMAC module to sign the requests, in accordance with the
official AWS examples.
- No use of temp files
- Use of networking
  - Retrieves AWS credentials with boto module in a non-core/convenience
function.
- No use of WebKit
- No use of PolicyKit

- No significant cppcheck results
- No significant Coverity results
- No significant shellcheck results
- No significant bandit results

python-aws-requests-auth is not currently actively maintained upstream
(https://github.com/DavidMuller/aws-requests-
auth/pull/52#issuecomment-583591776), the latest PR from Feb 2021 has
not been responded to. That said, the code base is small and neatly
documented, heavily drawing from the existing AWS example code for it's
functionality.

Security team ACK for promoting python-aws-requests-auth to main.

(again) work around the problem.

[Bug 1925745] Re: Hirsute: Cannot install ubuntu-desktop due to unmet dependencies

2021-06-16 Thread Dan Bungert
This appears to also be affecting the systemd packages on hirsute at the
moment.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libsystemd-dev : Depends: libsystemd0 (= 247.3-3ubuntu3.1) but 247.3-3ubuntu3
is to be installed

Attempting to force an install at version ubuntu3.1 offers to remove
init :) and triggers the 'do as I say' behavior.

not an ESP since an ESP must be FAT.

It's possible we could improve ubiquity's handling of this case, but if
you are skipping ubiquity's support for automatically configuring your
partitions correctly, you're somewhat on your own for getting the
partitions right.

[Bug 1932205] [NEW] Canon iP90 Ptr outputs blank pgs in 20.04, works in Win10

2021-06-16 Thread Jim
Public bug reported:

Ver: Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

Expected: CUPS to print to an iP90 inkjet printer.

What happens: Whenever I try to print anything to the iP90, it outputs
~14 blank pages with a ghostly thin line across the top of the page. It
hesitates after drawing the sheet of paper into the machine so that's
where it's printing that single line (or multiple lines but very tiny),
and then spits out the page without printing anything else. That
squished line on top is so small, and with the rest of the page blank, I
reuse that paper when I leave Ubuntu and boot to Win10. Then I can print
to the iP90 all day and the pages come out fine.

What I've tried: I've loaded and deleted the CUPS driver for the iP90
numerous times to no avail. CUPS recognizes the USB printer is attached
and it's name & model number.

[Bug 1932200] Re: ALT+CTRL+T doesn't automatically inherit of the focus

2021-06-16 Thread Brian Warner
What do you have for:

$ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-new-windows

If the value is 'strict', new windows or terminals do not take the top
focus when made available.

[Bug 1923659] Re: Builds are failing due to harmless warnings

2021-06-16 Thread William Wilson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1932076 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1932076

** Description changed:

The builds have some tests that are failing due to harmless warnings.
- The warning "no name" for a missing key is valid behavior, so we will
- add it to the regex for acceptable crypt-gnupg warnings.
+ The warning "no name" for a missing key is caused by an internet
+ failure, so we will add it to the regex for acceptable crypt-gnupg
+ warnings.
